Trump is giving Putin an ‘open invitation’ to hack the 2020 election: Former CIA operative
On Friday, former CIA operative Bob Baer slammed President Donald Trump for failing to condemn Russian hacking and warned that he has set the path for foreign intelligence to interfere with future US elections.
Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone, and they briefly talked about the Mueller report but he failed to warn them about future interference.
“Did you tell him not to meddle in the next election?” a reporter asked Trump while in the Oval Office.
“We didn’t discuss that. Really, we didn’t discuss it. We discussed five or six things. We also went into great detail on various things,” Trump responded.
“This is the first time these two leaders have spoken since special counsel Robert Mueller concluded that Russia did, in fact, interfere in the 2016 election,” CNN host Brooke Baldwin said.
Baer said that Putin would most likely seek to hack the 2020 presidential election since he did not face any consequences.
“I think it is an open invitation for the Russians to meddle in 2020,” he said. “The fact that he didn’t bring it up, the fact that he didn’t warn Putin. This was the most damaging act of political sabotage which frankly has ever happened to this country and to talk about it as if it’s still a hoax and frame it as no collusion is completely ignoring what the Russians did.”
“If I were Vladimir Putin, and intended to disrupt the politics of this country, I would meddle in 2020 and he probably will.”
