I need to have my kitchen remodeled completely. Does anyone know of a designer who can come in and tell me what would work in my kitchen in regards to design? Would a contractor do that? I need someone to help me think outside the box when it comes to cabinet placement, etc. I was thinking a kitchen designer would have some good ideas, but aren't familiar with any in this area.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Suffredini does superior work, although pricey.

Andy Feocco out of Kitchen Express in Syracuse designed our kitchen about a year ago. We had computerized designs from Lowes, Home Depot and HEP but he suggested a layout completely different than the others that we'd never thought of before. Andy came out to our house and took measurements, discussed designs and within a few days, had emailed us 3D drawings of the possible layouts. Once we chose a layout, he modified it for us as needed based on different possibilities (and our indecisiveness) and emailed us the different layouts. Out of all of the designs, he seemed the most knowledgeable as he's been in the business for 30 years. They have different options for cabinets, so prices vary from inexpensive to expensive. I would highly recommend him and Kitchen Express. Andy even came out the day our contractor installed the cabinets to make sure everything was going where it belonged and was installed correctly! Here's the link to their website with the phone number...ask to speak with Andy.

DO NOT use Quality HOMES of Rochester, unless you want to make your life miserable. They are terrible.

Don't go to Lowe's or Home Depot. They are untrained and can't answer simple questions.

Johnson Construction. Located on the corner of Serven and Border city Rd. Between the Bowling Alley and Emiles Rest. They designed and rebuilt a kitchen for me a while ago and did an exellent job. They even had ideas that I didnt think of pertaining to using space that would have normally been wasted. I believe I dealt with Gary Johnson back then.

I can highly recommend Tim Warren at Ferrara's in Seneca Falls. Tried Lowe's but only got frustrated because I could never get the same guy twice. It was a slow, fruitless process. Tim is there when you need him, has all the hi-tech stuff and did a great job on our kitchen. Carries some good quality cabinets. Follow-up service has been excellent. Won't be the cheapest you can find, but it is worth a few extra bucks for the peace of mind.

I would find and just ask a highly experienced contractor, people that install kitchens usually know more than designers. If you have one come over you can usually tell by talking to them for a few minutes if they know what they are doing. Check references.

It would not hurt for you to get a basic book at the home center on kitchen design to assure you are getting a good design from whomever you go to for your new kitchen. There are rules as to space required to each side of the stove and sink and between cabinets and islands. The work "Triangle" is important to minimize your travel back and forth. Anyone with a "CKD" is a certified kitchen designer and should be able to give you a good design. Be careful with islands. Everyone thinks they want them but sometimes they just create a "racetrack" to work around.

Also when choosing a cabinet to buy the "box" not the door. I've seen alot of good looking doors on some pretty shabbily built cabinet boxes.

I suggest you make a little research about kitchen remodeling before making inquiries. Check online various countertops and flooring, cupboard styles. If you let a businessman enter the scene right away, chances are you'll be spending more than what is required. Join forum discussions and you'll be surprised you can get a lot of ideas from others, not to mention for free.
