First things first; I have to jump off the eating wheel. Low Carb Diet helps put off hunger pains and cravings. Yes, for the long run, it is not a good diet. But people, if you read the book he tells you how to eat all natural foods to maintain. Once you go on the "maintenance" you will need to stay under 80 grams fo carbs per day. Processed sugar and flour is out. But natural fruits and vegetables are a yes. I am getting my energy up now and have a less bloaty feeling. Eating those soft chewy chocolate chip cookies is only a temporary feeling. I have to overturn the cravings. And high protein works for me. But in a few weeks, I am turning over to Weight Watchers. I know so many people it works for! And it is realistic.

I just read an article at cnn.com that said WW is really the only diet out there with substantial success rates, and decent "science" behind the effectiveness studies.

well, if you want a walking partner count me in! We could do the Sunday morning thing...we'll just to figure out where. I need to eat healthier and exercise more. I know it, and it's not easy...having a friend to "share the pain with" would help. Maybe a bunch of us that know each other and get along could get together and have a weight loss party? We could get together and do fun, healthy things, and share tips to eat better and such.

Question? Doesn't Gatorade and Diet Soda - have a lot of sodium? Defeats the purpose if you end up retaining fluid.
If I knew how to calorie count (I don't because I don't eat the recommended serving size, or measure anything) if you limit your calories to 1200/weekday and 1400 one day a week (for that treat) - with exercise - pounds are suppose to drop off.
I have a new "single" life now - so I am going to really get health conscious and start looking after myself. No more french fries, Kraft Mac and Cheese - and NO MORE fried Chicken!! (can't give up pizza).

Whoa - don't drop to 1200 calories a day without consulting a nutritionist or a doctor. That is a severe and drastic cut in calorie intake. Find a website to help you calculate what is right for you considering your height and weight if you can't or don't want to go to the doctor. Even 1400 is low, and that's a splurge day? Yikes.

If you weigh 160 pounds,1600 calories a day are needed to "maintain" that weight. Less calories taken in, weight drops. Sometimes it's hard to want to pay a doctor for the ok, but really,if you have health issues, it's the best way.
A simple thing like less calories in, more energy expended, equals weight loss. Eating nutrient dense foods,as opposed to calorie/fat dense foods, means you can actually eat all day long ( I call it grazing).Make a healthy hearty soup, with beans, vegetables, grains, add some salad and a good whole grain bread, and you will be absolutely stuffed, with fruit for dessert a bit later,on a lot less calories and fat grams.
Fat is NOT a horrible thing. The right fats are needed to keep our bodies healthy. Olive oil and flax seed oil are tops on my list.
I can tell you, and AEGurrrl knows me;this works. I have diabetes, diet and exercise controlled for going on 9 years now,and every year my health and stamina actually improve. I belly dance 2 hours every day, along with yoga, tai chi,chi gung, outdoor walking, and can still go out and out dance people 30 years younger than me,lol!

Well, I fell off the wagon a bit last night and had some drinks, but instead of getting discouraged I'm hopping back on! Tai chi, gym, then maybe yoga! Have a good day! Everyone get out and move for at least 30 minutes!
