I fail to see why you think that is gross. Woman and husband wanting a baby for many years and finally there was a way for that to happen. Good for them. I am sure that they have family that is younger that will take care of this baby when the parents die.

But, what about the child? Parents will more than likely pass when the child is very young, or at best, a teenager. It's tragic enough when a child is robbed of a parent via an accident or illness. But, the parents planned this. I understand their longing for a child, but the love they have to give could have gone to other children in need.

I don't think it's gross, but it seems ill-advised... Even if the parents have someone else to look after the child, it will be traumatic to lose his/her parents so early in life (unless these folks are lucky and live to be 100 or something, which is not so likely). It's sad when people really want children and can't have them, but just because science CAN do something doesn't mean it SHOULD.

Absolutely. It is selfish and unfair for someone that elderly to not consider what this all will be like on their child.

This is all understandable and I know what you mean. Sure, the child will lose the parents at a early age for him/her but way down the line that child will be grown up to understand things as to why they had him/her. It can go either way I guess but hey, that's life. The child when grown will know the risks the parents took and if not for that, he/her would not exsist.

I am an only child...that is not the issue. The child will be young when the parents pass away, and that will be traumatic. It's one thing for a parent to be taken away with an illness or accident. It's a selfish act on the mother's part.

That is a large part of the issue as who will this child have when mom and dad die. Feasibly they could all be in diapers at the same time.

The father will leave the mother because he just can't handle the pressure of being a parent.....he still wants to sow his oats.

The thought of 70 yr old women getting pregnant and giving birth is unnatural and grotesque.

I agree. My parents had me in their 40's, i was a wee bit of a surprise. But I spent my life worrying about when are they gonna die. My Mom did a lot with me, but you REALLY need energy to do things with your child. They won't be able to take afternoon naps anymore or watch re-runs of Murder, She Wrote.

I'm agreeing w/you and she did it for the wrong reasons. She thought about herself, not the child.

YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET A GRIP.

All parents have children for basically selfish reasons. So what?

This couple has been trying for 50 years! They want a child. They will die soon -- forever. Let them have their selfish little piece of heaven on earth. That's all they get.

The kid will survive and be taken care of. They gave it a start. You ask the kid in twenty years if mom and dad did the right thing.

Any of our parents could have decided not to have us. Do you think yours made the right choice?

I'm 58 and I have a 3-year-old. I think he's kind of glad to have me around, and I don't think he's doing much worrying. I know I'm glad to have him around. I take my nap when he takes his, and we talk and play together instead of watching TV. It works for us.

By the time you will need to be in diapers he will be old enough to change them.

I knew he was messing around with an old pig.
This was my number one suspect.

That pig is too thin, he wouldn't be interested.

If there was anyway that I can get pregnant now at my age of 54, I would. I have 3 grown up kids and grand kids as well. Hubby has 2 kids but we together do not have any and I would love to have one with him. Hubby is 10 years younger than me so he will be around longer than me maybe.
