Remember the "Happy Ad's" were a big part of the paper, that people looked forward to. now you might see one a month!

They just brought in a new publisher from rural Mississippi. Maybe he can help the paper figure out its business model.

at this time, I can't say that it would be a loss...this paper lacks anything news worthy "locally".

A few suggestions....

They need to report the news as accuratley as possible-in other words... report what is actually going on, not what they want the public to believe!!!

Unbiased reporting might increase readership-not with the usual spin.

Lower the price and get it delivered b4 5pm in most areas...

Morning paper would be nice....by the time noon rolls around my day is beyond the "coffee and paper"...

I can't see any (paper)newspapers surviving the next ten years or so. Why buy a newspaper when they post the basics on their website. Papers will be all online. Maybe the big city papers will survive, but smaller papers are too expensive to home deliver. Online subscriptions are pretty handy. Accessible anywhere, printable, savable and you can even research past issues.

If the FLTimes wants to survive they would offer an online version of their paper for a deep discount.

The monthly subscription rate is 12 dollars a month - 144 dollars a year.

They need to offer an online subscription only for 50 to 60 bucks a year.

As for people who say people would share thier id's with others so that FLT would get cheated, there are ways to lock up access and control it.

I agree. I haven't looked at it in years and haven't missed anything. To much information available and the FLT doesn't offer anything of value. IMHO

I've threated to quit the FLT many times. This time it's really going to happen. There is nothing in it, when it does come it's already old news. Normally you see it on TV or the internet long before the FLT arrives. When it runs out around new years I am not renewing it.

SenecaMom, there was a study done very recently in journalism schools. It was conducted as the pollsters felt honest reporting of the facts has disappeared from the news, and that the media (of all kinds) is more interested in their agenda moving forward. Guess what, the journalism students and their professors all agreed it was more important to express their opinions than report the news. How's that for a slap in the face?!

Give me the news on all the pages and save the political agendas for the editorial page where a reader knows what is being read is opinion. I'm with you on this.

ahhh...the good ol' days.

As for papers disappearing, books to for that matter, many people simply want to hold them to read them. I read far more comprehensively from a page rather than the screen. I've been online when since the Internet was called BITNET a long time ago, so I can't say it is new technology for me to read online.

I like the feel of pages and reading online is more toward scanning than with the same deliberation as the page in hand. I'll see if I can pull down the article, it was very interesting. I hope print does not go away.

Maybe they should get their billing dept. straightened out. Nothing like getting a late night call from them to tell you you owe $300 and then the next day calling the bank to find you have cancelled checks for all they say you owe. Another time they called we discovered our carrier had been cashing our checks at the Big M. Checks we had made out to the FLT. Our carrier was using it for scratch off tickets. We are done with the times. They have called us twice to reup and I told why both times and not to call back.

I feel the sting of that slap! Fascinating and extremely disappointing...Professors are teaching that individual opinions are more impotant than facts- now that's scary. It's no wonder the vast majority are "sheeple"...led to believe the agenda. I long for the days of scooping a story based on facts, facts alone. Thank goodness in the global world we can search for truth-(via internet) one needs to be a dectective for sure; deciphering through inuendo and opinion....

The Finger lakes times is just about the most biased paper..ever!!!! it should be called.."this is what anne schulle and the reporters think" every year, these ignorant reporters go to the same big stores in downtown geneva during the holidays, and ask them how busines is.... they neglect the smaller stores, and its horrible. Why wasnt Earthly Posession Boutique mentioned? i see her ads in the paper every week, and that reporter walked straight past her store!!I remember reading wonderful comments on finger lakes 1 about her recently, she is truly a talented, smart young lady who gets put on the backburner every year by the newspaper...and she is a true success story!!! shes always there, making jewelry, and is just so nice. and the Smith Opera House Gallery has a great collection of local artwork!! mind you, their shop is run by volunteers also!!! These people dont even get paid, and are there promoting local artists..but who was on the cover? guards cards!! a silly hallmark store..and isnt that for sale? her selection has gone downhill ever since she bought it from bob and pat..and shes never there.just because their store is bigger, doesnt make them better.wake up flt!!!!!! stop being lazy.
