Corning rated among top American cities for the arts

American Style magazine ranked Corning among the top 25 arts destinations in the U.S. in the category of “Small Cities and Towns” with populations of 100,000 or fewer people.

Corning ranked fourth on the list.

To celebrate the honor, Corning Mayor Tom Reed on Thursday presented a “Top 25 Arts Destination” award from American Style magazine to Ginnie Lupi, executive director of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.

The plaque will hang in the gallery at The ARTS offices, located on Market Street.

Corning has been listed in AmericanStyle’s annual rankings five years running, Lupi said.

American Style, based in Baltimore, is geared toward art enthusiasts. It typically offers features on artists and their work, museums and galleries, and travel destinations in the U.S. and abroad.

The magazine bases its rankings on an annual poll of its readers.

Santa Fe, N.M., Asheville, N.C. and Sedona, Ariz. were the top three cities in the “Top 25 Small Cities and Towns” category, followed by Corning.
