Looks like I have a SERIOUS leak that will take some work to get to. I don't think we have ever had to call a plumber before that wasn't something we couldn't fix. Looking in the phonebook, I have no idea where to start. PM's welcome. drip....drip....hole in floor. aaak.

Do you mean hole in ceiling?

Open up the drywall and repair the leak. Then patch the drywall.

We're thinking of putting in a bathroom off of our family room but would like to see how much it costs. Anyone more plumbers out there that are reasonable and good at what they do?

Why would you want a crapper in your family room? Extra seating?

Joe doesn't need fancy certifications that are required in some states after serving in the military he can go right to plumbing.

We need to encourage programs such as Teach for America and Troops to Teachers where people, after having served in the military, can go right to teaching and not have to take these examinations which -- or have the certification that some are required in some states.

It wouldn't BE in the family room but off of it. We may convert that room over to a studio apt some day. Besides, like I stated in my original post that my grandparents may be moving in with us and they need a place to go, ya know? My grandfather has many health issues and cannot get around very well. Right now the only toilet that's available is on the first floor up a couple of steps and the room is very narrow-he wouldn't be able to turn around. So that's why I'm looking to see how much it would be to put in just a simple toilet, sink and possibly shower stall. Thanks for your help!

DDC-sorry but if you're referring to politics then I don't get the "joke". I'm not into government things. Never liked it in school either.

Are the walls for the current toilet load bearing?

How far away are the sewer main drain and water lines from where you want to locate the newer bath area?

walls load bearing? the previous owners had taken part of a hallway leading to the stairs for the 2nd floor and converted it to a toilet only room. as far as how far away the lines are-quite aways-no matter what we do i know it's gonna cost us a pretty penny (tho i should say dollars not pennies). i'm gestimating the distance to be about 40-50 feet away. there is another room that was used as a bedroom that may be able to be converted into a full bath which is a little closer. it's hard to describe without seeing for yourself. and even if we were to use the former bedroom for the full bath, my grandfather would still have to make his way up 2 steps. i figure having on one level would be the easiest but may be the most expensive.

If there is a full basement below the area that needs the new bath area then it would not be as expensive. Running the water supply lines are easy as compared to the 4" sewer pipe for the toilet.
