Corning museum of glass is a real good place so is Strong Museum of play. They are a little bit of a ride but worth it. Also the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester. If you like the outdoors a good place to go is Stoney Brook State Park or Watkins Glen State Park plan a little picnic with them in these places. We take our kids to the state parks alot and they love it we got the empire state pass to the parks and it has already paid for it self for as many times we have taken them.

Also depends on how old your kids are.

Age, interests of kids, and how much you want to spend are big factors...

I would definately recommend the Strong Museum of Play for that age group although it is for all ages.

Here is a link for top 20 places to take kids to in the Rochester area:

Also, I suggest taking the kids out locally to a farm to pick out their own pumpkins and make Jack-O-Lanterns with them.

How about a day of fishing or just looking at the leaves change it is a nice time of year for that and why not get a homemade grape pie for an afternoon snack.

At that age you should rent a movie that they pick out and then do a "game" night. Have the kids pick out a board game each. Then order a pizza and lay a blanket on the floor to eat on. You will save yourself a bundle of money. No waiting in line, no gas money....just safe at home doing what families don't do much of anymore...enjoying each other. Have fun, whatever you do.

Two very good ideas. Friday I am taking a hike up on the state land off West Lightning Rd. (No man's land)

What a great answer, Remember so simple as kids we use to play?
Monopoly, forts, and acted out the movie we saw on saturday afternoon. Life sure is different today.

When I was a kid we always did family-oriented things. We had cousins and friends over and had barbecues, etc. We used to go to the ball field and start a game and next thing you knew more kids showed up. We always played board games and cards. If we ever went anywhere, it was to state parks for picnics or to relatives homes to spend the day.

It was a much simpler, happier time. If we spent money it was on a movie and most of the time we would sneak in candy and just buy the popcorn.

I'm hoping that with the way the economy is that people would start thinking this way again. Our lives had become too money oriented and we need to get back to what is important.

PYMasterStever, start doing that now. Go to the park and throw stones in the water, invite friends to play on the playground and then start a little fire on the grill and do smores. Instead of spending a bundle, do what the kids will remember when they are older.

Better yet, make the pizza or individual pizza's with their own favorite toppings, lot's more fun and memorable. ;\)
