I don't know Bob (or jack) for that matter but if he isn't trying to save seneca falls by bringing back the past i am with him....Here are some wacked out ideas that will never happen, ideas just in case some one wants to get their head out of the past is Bob that baby guy on the Quiznos commercials?????????

+++++The goal should be “purpose” not pretty. People can get pretty anywhere what is the purpose of having the prettiest little home town that people just drive through, take a couple of pictures and move on to other places where they find stuff to do and buy.
We have all the elements of people magnetism but our polarity is all wrong.

People are like magnets and are found in places that draw our polarity. I think I see this polarity in some local areas, here are some examples.....downtown Skaneatles I see more people than in downtown Seneca Falls. Downtown Watkins Glen, and look the traffic around the lake front in Geneva and Canandaigua and the commerce that is growing there. What is the attraction of Hoops park in Auburn, plenty of people go there and yet there is nothing there to buy? Lets not forget Ithaca, yes a great college town with an eclectic personality, downtown Ithaca is a hopping place. You can’t find a parking place because everybody goes there.

What draws people from all around to these places. Quite simply it is personality and the “people magnatism”of the location. These places seem to have something to do besides simply buy dry goods. There are gathering places, places to sit and eat while watching the world go by and other amenities for the eye and soul. Waterways that always seem to be a people draw or a unique atmosphere seem to really hold human attention.

So why are we so different in Seneca Falls, we are not. We have waterways in close proximity to downtown, We have stores not unlike other stores elsewhere, folks can buy things here too. So why do other places draw the foot traffic Seneca Falls seems to be missing.

We have a water front it is called VanCleef lake and the canal system. It is simply not as developed as other examples. Again why not turn VanCleef Lake it into “the port at Seneca Falls”. Just a few docks and tie ups where folks traveling the canel system can dock dine shop and just walk around a nice little area that leads right onto Fall Street. How about a nice walking pier out into the lake like Skaneateles and Geneva have. There is a nice start along the canal but why stop there. It is a heart beat away from Van Cleef lake and could easily be tied in to a nice extension loop under the bridge and back to downtown along the VanCleef.

Like Ithaca, we are a college town, NYCC is a pretty respectful establishment perhaps not as old as Cornel but quite easily drawing some real career focused and culturally diverse folks to our town again and again. Sounds like Ithaca to me. What are we doing to supply and entertain this up scale population already within our community?
Why are we not capitalizing on the college?????

Ok we don’t have a glen to walk through and a waterfalls to look at. What about the canal and the Ludivico scupture trail? Why not loop this venue into a biking and foot trail that runs from the Bridge Street bridge to the Veterans bridge or even the connector bridge and back again.

We don’t have a people mall like Ithaca....Why not turn downtown Fall street between State & Cayuga into a walking mall, a gathering place for people? Just doing this for the summer months alone could be a plus. With the traffic control for summer time pedestrians in place now we are almost there anyway.

The point is there is nothing in other places that isn’t in place in Seneca Falls. The big difference is our venues are mostly, basically waiting for someone or something to bring them to life.

Remember the line from the movie Field Of Dreams.....”If you build it they will come”.
Here are a couple of examples where people did just that in Seneca Falls and surrounding area and it has worked.
The outlet mall, NYCC, Empire Farm Days, The Women’s Hall of Fame and something called It’s A Wonderful Life. Explain the difference between Seneca Falls and It’s a Wonderful Life and the L. Frank Baum classic The Wizzard of Oz in Chittenango, NY . There is a Wizzard of OZ museum, Oz fest and on and on. Why is Chittenango on the map because of a movie and we are not even a blip on a radar????? . They have a movie, we have a movie, why are we not capitalizing on Hollywood . Certainly the Capra movie is every bit a part of American movie culture as the wizzard so why not build our own yellow brick road right into Seneca Falls?
What about the nice park along the canal and “the other one” between Fall & Cayuga Streets, and the land along the canal on the South side of the Ovid street bridge?

More over just a hop skip and a jump away we offer additional opportunities to augment Seneca Falls as a focal center and jumping off point. There is a State park, a great wine region, a huge shopping center where I hear they bring the shoppers in by the bus load, what a concept!!!
What would it take to get the bus to stop here? I know OLD PRETTY BUILDINGS!!!!!

There is some great fishing on a couple of lakes and don’t forget the airport, and an interstate exit and good roads all around. The seasonal traffic that seems to be passing through is huge. Look at what comes to town for Empire Farm Days. Here is another example other than Farm Days, simply look at the influx of bass fisherman that basically take over Cayuga lake every summer for the tournments. Have you seen the boats and trailers at the local hotels/ motels. The area has potential, great potential and we are sitting right in the middle of it all with arms folded and holding our breath worried about the style of nails, signs and building color.

There is some wonderful potential right here at ground zero, downtown Seneca Falls, spring, summer, fall and winter. There are countless things that can be used as people magnets to get folks to come into and stay in the area ALL YEAR LONG

Lets throw in another element....Super Walmart, Look at the buying population the visits the outlet mall every day. This population is too far away from down town Seneca Falls to draw any attention but SUPER Walmart now there is a big spending population just 3 miles away from down town. Where is the down side of lots of people with $$$$$ in their pockets hanging around? Oh instead lets put up some three level rehab facility in the 3rd ward and get all kinds of folks on the mend hanging around downtown while the re-integrate into every day life. That will draw shoppers into SF.
Maybe we should just quick put up the keep out signs because someone might actually wander into down town!!!!! I hear you can buy keep out signs at Super Walmart.

Will the last person out snuff out the gas light please.

Seneca Falls - Home to the GRAPE HALL of FAME

The Grape Hall of Fame sounds more like something for Lodi, Caywood, Valois, Hector or Watkins Glen.
Seneca Falls is more of a toffee-nosed little community, so you'd should stay with that theme.
How about an art display of people looking down their noses at others or a Hall Of Fame Self-Important People.
Better yet how about a ski resort, you got the dump.

Does nil mean zero, none, re: no response.....

The real question is how many went out on buses and how many returned back to home base on the buses....

Well the previous Saturday Bob wrote that they had 24 riders which was only 1 third of what they needed to break even.

So that means on the previous saturday they lost at least $480. Add that to whatever they lost on Sunday and you are talking about a $1,000 a weekend in losses!

Bob, where are you Bob?
How many riders did you have this past weekend?

"Why not turn downtown Fall street between State & Cayuga into a walking mall,"

Because it's a state and federal highway?

Some great ideas Cwanky!
re: the conerts saw very few folks at the one last weekend
(even before the rainny last day), and even less come to the ones during the week seems this Place lacks promotion of any of the events. I'm told convention days is the big one so the town should be over run with folks this week. maybe a few will ride the wine bus. another idea might be getting that hotel [Gould/Clarence] finished.

Wine Tour Bus, Sound clips Source: Finger Lakes News Radio

Wine tours along Seneca Lake are getting a nice boost from a Wine Tour Bus that runs each weekend. Bob Buccieri is with the Seneca Falls Local Development Corporation, and says the buses are a nice option for visitors to the region...

Tickets are only 10 dollars, and will take visitors to at least 6 wineries on the trail...

The bus runs each Saturday from 10 to 6, and Sunday from noon to 6. Tickets can be purchased at the Seneca Falls Visitors Center on Fall Street.

Yeah great job BOB!

For every $10 ticket someone buys it costs the tax payers an additional $20 per rider is operating losses plus if you count what Bob costs us per year (about $100,000 in taxes) to pay his salary, benefits etc and suppose there are 500 wine bus riders all summer then you can add an additional $200 per rider.
THATS RIGHT FOLKS ! It costs the tax payers an additional $200 Per Rider.

So the total tax payer subsidy for the wine tour is $220 per rider.

Sounds like you are doing a really bang up job Bob ?
Welcome to Seneca County.
You'll fit right in.
