Anyone know when they're holding it this year? Hope I can find the time to go do some 'junkin'.

It's ALWAYS the last Saturday in July and the following day. The following day may or may not be in July. So this year it's July 26th & 27th.

Happy Trails.

I dont think i've ever heard of this.. where have i been!! LOL
Waterloo has their "village yard sales" every year.. which is dumb. Even if you live in town.. if it's not considered the "village" they wont put you on the list.

Well RedGreen, I didn't make the original post. But I've made the same mistakes.

The sale has gone on for over twenty years. My ex, Connie, came up with the idea when she started the State Rt. 90 Association with Gordon Cummings out of King Ferry. She also did the work to get Rt. 90 designated a scenic byway and the following year the state designated it a truck route.

The trucks don't like the 50 Mile Garage Sale, LOL

Our book store and the Rt. 90 Assn. are defunct, but the sale goes on because it had a designated date.

found this on the 9 news station calendar.
Route 90 comes alive with the longest community event held in Central New York. The 50 mile event goes from Montezuma to Homer, While some will make the entire trip in one day others will use as many as three days to see it all. This is more than just a yard sale. It is 50 miles of friends and families coming together to meet thousands of bargain hunters from all over. This year Nice n Easy in the township of Montezuma will be adding to the fun. “We have been planning for this event since last year. We will have vendors giving out samples along with a duck pond for the kids and fresh cotton candy and popcorn will be available. We wanted to have a mini circus theme so we have also added peanuts and a spin the wheel for a chance to get more than what your dollar is worth. And best of all we will have The Wall 99.3 from 10am to 12 pm Saturday along with a chance for people to step into the money machine.” said Jeff Chatigny manager at Nice n Easy on the corner of Rt. 90 and 5&20. The actual dates for this event are Saturday and Sunday July 26th and 27th. But over the past few years we have seen a larger number of people coming through on Friday as well. While in Montezuma take some time to check out the Bald eagle nest near the refuge. And many nice folks that would be happy to see all of you, on what is shaping up to be the biggest yard sale event not just for the state but possibly the nation. For vendors planning to attend there is plenty of fields along the route that have provide plenty of space in the past A-Verdi has spots Available by calling 315-365-2851. All food vendors should contact local agency's for food safety laws. Additional information can be obtained by calling 315-252-6767 ask for Jeff

I wonder if all the vendors will be named in the lawsuit when someone is killed on that free-for-all freeway....

Lusi, most years there are no accidents, some years one or two. But at five to ten miles per hour, most accidents are minor. I know vehicle pedestrian accidents aren't always so.

When I was Rt. 90 Assn. President I considered contacting the village and school in Cayuga, which is the worst bottleneck, to possibly use the park or school grounds for the sales to get parked traffic off Rt. 90. I forget if was the sheriff or state police that informed me if I altered traffic patterns that made me liable, that traffic laws in place could deal with the situation.

Not only THAT, but you'd miss out on the home made doughnuts at the Cayuga Fire House. That's usually the only thing I buy and I ride the motorcycle so I can find a place to park and also to help avoid dragging home more than I have room for.

People started setting up yesterday.

Cayuga firefighters plan benefit doughnut sale
Sunday, July 20, 2008
Anyone traveling down Route 90 during the annual Route 90 Garage Sale might want to stop in Cayuga for doughnuts.

The sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Cayuga Fire Department on Route 90. The doughnuts are made at the firehouse.

All proceeds benefit the family of Gary Perkins, who recently lost his long battle with heart disease. Perkins endured months of treatment and an extended hospital stay.

The cost is $6 a dozen or $2.50 a half-dozen. To pre-order doughnuts, call Helen Day at 252-8681.

The fire department's ladies division is footing all the costs for the doughnut sale. Gary's wife, Carol, is a life member of the ladies division.

I think that most of the reason for no accidents is due to luck more than anything else. Sure, in the villages, the posted speed limit is maybe 30 MPH and people are driving slower than that. But this is a state highway, and outside of the villages it's a winding, hilly road and the posted limit is in the 50s. And there are vendors set up out there too. People just park their cars and wander across the road as if it's a parking lot without a care in the world. I work weekends and with a woman from Cortland. She generally uses RT 90 to get to work in Seneca Falls. The first year she encountered this traffic fiasco, she nearly hit three idiots who acted as if they weren't walking across a highway. Now, she is wise enough to detour and use 41 instead. Of course, that lengthens her commute a bit.

It's a nice idea, but a lousy idea for anyone who actually wants to use RT 90 for it's intended purpose.

Add one more to the list - my own truck had the driver's door smashed in and mirror wiped out evidently some time this morning. It was still in the apartment parking lot with nobody parked anywhere near it. I noticed it when I went out to leave. It appears to have been backed into by a trailer. Police report filed.

That didn't stop me from picking up a dozen doughnuts in Cayuga though and they were worth the trip.

That stinks that your vehicle got hit.

The ladies did and nice bit of business yesterday on their sell. I wish they were selling again this morning.
