It has been pointed out that my family had some unique food customs. Does anyone else? I mean once you got older you realized that only your family was eating these dishes?

For example:
Popcorn & milk (In a bowl, eaten like cereal)

Corned beef gravy... Made like dried beef gravy but using canned corned beef, served over boiled potatoes.

Dad was always bringing home game. Elk, Bear, Moose, Alligator, once Dolphin or Porpoise (this was the 60's) I did not taste "Flipper" however.

We used to have Miracle Whip sandwiches, elbow macaroni with butter and pork and beans and fried tomatoes waaaaaaaaaay before the movie.

Great thread \:\)

I will not tell you the strange things my family eats or has eaten...It will simply gross some of you out beyond belief! Still...I love the stuff!

Dad would also eat pig's feet and other pickled meats (tongue \:D ) and one day brought home a huge crock and proceeded to make his own sour-kraut! Had to have a special rock to hold down the concoction. The basement smelled of it for months.

My grandfather used to eat Limburger and Onion sandwiches and wash it down with a glass of buttermilk...my GOD that was one smelly meal...actually i just bought some pork chops today to make one of favorite from childhood...it's pork chops cooked in an electric fry pan and cream of mushroom soup dumped over them and served over noodles, when fully heated...ooh so yummy...and being that we didn't have a lot of money growing up by the end of the month my mother made a funky stew...that had hot dogs, pork and beans, canned tomatoes and canned mixed vegetables...that was good...i now make a soup like that i call it shelter soup....i still eat peanut butter and mayonaisse sandwiches, and ritz crackers in my cream of wheat, and mayonaisse on my brussell sprouts....no wonder i'm a fat bastard

Peanut butter, lettuce and mayo makes a good sandwich; I like pieces of super sharp cheddar or grated parmesan on my sprouts.

Well in my growing up years I was subject to snails (at home not some fancy French restaurant), snapping turtle soup (darned thing was consuming our fish so we figured it was only fair), frogs legs from frogs that my mother caught herself and er, de-legged, anything that woman could find to try from Euell Gibbons (remember him!?) book like nettles and using actual birch twigs to make birch beer, um and lots of things raw that people have NO business eating raw........I often just pinch myself to make sure I really made it out of my childhood alive!

my favorite is seaweed and rice. I love combu (another form of seaweed) and octopus and squid (not the fried stuff).
My Former Mom-in-law turned me on to Escargot (snails) - yummm!
Oh, and yes, I do love sushi.

Yeah, but sushi isn't really considered strange any more...

but I also love seaweed and keep a bag in my cupboard for snacking on! Love to munch on the sheets of Nori that are also used for making...you guessed it...sushi!

I haven't had it in years.... but my fav weird thing to eat is a bologna sandwich with ketchup and potato chips on it. Mmmmmm.... I may have to buy some bologna and chips today. And while we are on the subject of chips- they are pretty good dipped in ice cream too. Maybe that's why I haven't had a bag of chips in my house in soooo long.

Hey spencey, do you like to eat the chips with ice cream too? Just curious. I know not a single soul that eats potato chips on a bologna sandwich with ketchup.

I guess potato chips on a tuna salad sandwich (NO ketchup) wouldn't count, would it?
