Ever try placing a nice bowl/vase of fresh flowers on the table at dinner time? Children are so naturally inquisitive about flowers. Wanting to know all about them. Can just be some from the back yard, nothing extravagant... A little color and freshness... a good topic of conversation at the dinner table.

Those nice pale blue "forget-me-nots" are always so pretty and cheery. And, iris are great when they bloom.

I'm cursed. My kids (especially the four yr old) love to pick flowers. Even if it's Dandelions, then insist on flowers on the table almost nightly.

Hey... I recall doing the dandelion thing as a kid, too. I always thought they were pretty cheery, but wondered why they closed up so soon after picking them... If that is your curse, you are pretty lucky \:\) Make sure you tell the kids when they get older that they can continue to give you flowers \:\)

If you don't have your own to pick you can get pretty cheap bouquets at Aldi's. And a wide variety there as well. I never used to just pick up flowers for the house, but they're cheap enough there that once in a while I just grab a bunch.

Just to make family dinner fun - I bought wine glasses for milk instead of just a glass; added a beautiful candle piece to the table too. When I first got separated from my kids dad, this made dinner time less awkward not having "daddy" around. That was years ago - but we always have wine glasses and candles now.

I can remember having wildflowers on my dining room table or kitchen counter every spring. I loved them, my kids are grown now, but my grandson came running in the first week the dandelions were blooming with a "bouquet" for me. There is just something so special about that, even if it is "only" dandelions. To that child, it is the most beautiful flower, and he wants to share it with you.
