My one co-worker's 32 (I believe) year old daughter was just diagnosed with Hodgekins. They believe she is in stage 2 potentially moving toward stage 3. She started the chemo last week. She lives at home with her mother/step father and her 7 year old daughter. The entire family smokes. The step father is a chain smoker. As soon as one cigarette is finished another one is lit. In the winter, when my co-worker comes to work, I have to ask her to put her coat in the other office because the smell of smoke takes over the entire office.

It would seem like the onset of the Hodgekins would be a wake up call to them that they all need to stop or at the very least cut back on smoking. Unfortunately, they are so addicted to it, that it is very tough.

easier yes, but always there, hanging around waiting for the opportunity.

A co_worker clean 20 years still craves and dreams of them.

Here is a link that I hope some of you may find helpful..
http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/support/a/nosubfortime.htm
also if you google.. Ingredients in cigarettes check out some of the links - there is tons of information from those links when you google that stuff.. I hope you find this useful and helpful.. Check out the one that says there is no substitute for time (when you quit or have quit..) Just keep up the good work..

Yeah but I have put on about 10 pounds since quitting. I do not know if that is because I am craving nicotine or my taste buds are actually working again and I am enjoying the meals we make...

It's hard to pinpoint weight gain from quitting since so much was going on in the months before and during my "quit". First, my last semester of grad school during which I worked full time, plus the bar. Second, the stress from the proceeding year w/ my family stuff. Third, the impending move to Alaska and fourth, the fiancee coming home for the holidays and we hadn't seen one another in five months. Fifth, the move itself. By the time I got here there were like two pair of jeans I could fit into! LOL. It wasn't the heaviest I'd ever been but it was close. Basically I just threw my energy into working out, especially once the weather climbed above, say, forty below hehehe. Now I'm wearing clothes I literally have not worn in three, four, and in the case of one pair of jeans, FIVE years.

The yoga helped a lot not just for burning calories but for breathing techniques that helped me move past my cravings. Here are a few. I know they seem weird but just the act of concentrating on something else, and especially your breathing which I think noticably improves the longer you aren't smoking, is what counts:

Ocean or Victorious Breath

Sweet breath (my favorite to do for cravings, ocean breath is better during actual practice)

Breath of Fire

It doesn't hurt that the hiking here is amazing, although I am sucking some serious wind - four months is hardly long enough to reverse all the damage I've done but I'm working on it!

What'd he do, stuff food down your throat? PUT THE CHEETOS DOWN, STEP AWAY FROM the REFRIGERATOR, and no one will get fat!!! Really, that's the way to do it, SweetJeans. And hey, I realize that I'm carrying a few extra pounds (tons?), but I AM 57, and I'm just trying to gain enough strength to make it through my old age. Make it through to what? Hmmmnnnn.....PASS THE ICE CREAM!!! BETTER MAKE IT FAST!!!

That makes me think of the people that sort through the butt collectors outside the smoking hut here at work looking for butts that still have a few puffs left.

Just tell everyone that that 30 you put on was increased muscle weight.

No but we got engaged in TX in August and I came home alone so when he got here in Dec. NO ONE had seen him since then, plus it was Christmas, so there was a lot of extra celebrating and drinking. And I don't eat Cheetos.

WOW, what is in the air? I'm dreaming of smoking too! I don't have actual cravings anymore but I'll think just for a second of a cigarette at the oddest times....
