Posts: 2408 		Yes they might clear cut a area,but new trees will be planted..Sometimes you need to do this , in order to support new vegitation which also supports new habitat and food for certain species..I think there is a plan behind this so called madness.If there isn't then im against it.I also think the national forest gets some of the kick back for the new trees,trail and campground maintenace,enviromental control and patrol..etc....

I see trees cut down, but have not seen trees planted in the FLNF

Huh?,..how long ago was this? I do remember seeing Jane Fonda with a noose around her neck in a certain persons front yard a few years back. ;\)

Loc: New York 		Yes it is but that happens when we have these thaws. The ground is not really frozen yet and it has gotten worse at times since January. You can grade in in the wintertime it is a waste of time, effert & fuel

Loc: Auburn 		Last weekend it was soo bad that people with cars had to worry about getting stuck. I have a 4 wh. dr. truck and it was still rough. Funny but Burnthill rd. is not nearly as bad.How about putting down some stone?

Another waste of time and money right now. It wouldn't help. Burnt Hill Road is seasonal, so it doesn't get the constant wear and tear throughout the winter that Potomac Road does.

Loc: boondocks 		Last weekend I drove around all the fingerlakes national forest roads in my truck(2 wheel drive)..only went 10 to 20 mph though (didnt want to spill my beer on them big bumps ya know) and they were in rough shape...but its like that every year...have to wait till they dry out and the towns will use a grader to smooth them out.

I read the threads periodically and as you know, the FLNF is near and dear to my heart so I couldn't resist adding my two cents on this one. ;\) I'll be happy to address the logging issue as well, if any of the earlier posters still have questions/concerns. DDC, you're absolutely right, we go through this with our roads every year (some even closer to home) and it's just part of life in the country. Hey, it keeps the speeders down, right?

Loc: Auburn 		FLNF is near and dear to my heart also, I have been there every week since feb. 2001 lots of hiking and camping and I live 40 miles away, but it seems potomac road is about as bad as I have seen it.
