My signature was cancelled out!
When I went in to type a new one, I noticed the top line above that box says this:

"Signature (up to 0 characters)."

Um... up to 0 chars? That means I can't enter anything.
Sure enough, it won't let me use a thing for a signature.
Why'd it do that?

I haven't been able to change my sig for over a week. Even if I only type one word, I'm told "signature too long".

It's an evil plot by Past Tense to take over the forums.

More likely chalk it up to problems with the forum software.

We have disabled the signature feature due to it being abused by several users. When a user posts a 50k photo for their signature, for example, and 100 people open a thread that user has posted on, that is 5,000k of our bandwidth that is used. On top of that, if they post several times on a thread, that amount of bandwidth is significantly increased. Now imagine they have posted 1,000's of times. You can only imagine the bandwidth that is wasted.

On top of that, it is annoying and cumbersome to read a thread littered with signature photos.

I totally understand that one. I simply tried to change my avartar and it say" Signature To Long" I was not trying to do anything with my siggy. What gives on that?

Ummm.... shouldn't the image be downloaded only once, regardless of how many times it's used? At least with any browser I'm aware of.

I can understand the problem, but I don't think this is really part of it.

Could you just strip out image code in the signature field?

Though admittedly I could see the image tag HTML code necessary for images in signatures being a concern.

Has FL1 started hosting signature images? How would this affect their bandwidth?

Well shucks, why not just ask the people to remove their large pictures instead of taking the feature away from the rest of us text only people?

if they hosted their own siggy pics, it wouldnt affect fl1 bandwidth in any way.

In fact, i didnt know fl1 hosted them. Why dont they stop hosting uploadable avatars??

One possible reason could be that running the image through their own server enables them to control the dimensions of the images in question.

It's worth noting that in your display preferences, you can shut signatures off.

I'm pretty sure that the sig pics are downloaded from the actual host every time they're shown on the pages. You can resize them with code inside the forum software.
