I am contemplating air conditioning this year. We have several window units that work fine. To install them with the presence of storm window tracks is a bother. As the house is heated by hot water installing duct work and central air would be quite expensive. I have been looking at the portable type AC you wheel around as an alternative. Has anyone used this type of unit, and if so what has been your experience as to effectiveness, convenience etc?

There was another thread I think under general labeled air conditioning. And all types were mentioned. Someone also talked about having a portable unit and how well it worked.

We had one that worked well.. It was several years ago so I would assume that they would be even better now. We called him R2D2. We didn't have it plugged into a surge protector and it got zapped after the summer months so we aren't sure how long it would have lasted but it did well under the HOT Texas weather for the summer.. I am sure it would handle your place. We had it in a 16' X 32' room ( actually an outside office) high celing, and it kept it nice and cool all summer. We used a fan also to circulate the cold air around the room a little better.

I sifted through this thread and the only posting I found on AC dealt with repairs. Maybe I missed something.

The air conditioning thread is under the Online Community Discussion thread.

Do you happen to remember which thread it was? I looked too and couldn't find one labeled a/c but lots with a/c in them and I don't have time to read each one. Thanks.

I knnow someone that had one and it was aweful. It didn't cool the house very well, and the tray under it had to be emptied every few hours.
