I am a Bill's fan and was impressed with the first game. Defense looks great (no surprise) and Loseman looked good. They have to find the end zone when they get to the red zone if they want to be a contender this year. By the way, Houston looked pretty bad.

I don't think it was Houston's defense that did much of anything to stop the Bills. They have a QB throw for 70 yard,3 picks and a fumble!!! Also a running back with only 50 total yards and 2 fumbles. Their defense had one sack the entire game with no turnovers. I'd say that houston did nothing to hold the Bill to FG's, the Bills held themselves. Houston looked BAD!

5 field goals and only 1 offensive touchdown against the lowly Texans...........I wouldn't get to excited after game one....lets see how they do against a real NFL team!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm a Bills fan. Losman looked good, but with some more experience, I'm really hoping things will get much better, as far as getting in the end zone. I just felt they should have gotten more TDs than they did fieldgoals. Not to shabby for their 1st game, GO BILLS

WOOHOO! a wins a win.. I agree, they need to punch that sucker into the end zone a lot better than they did yesterday. At Tampa Bay Sunday.. that should be a good test.

I'll just speculate that SR1 is referring to the Texans "newness" in the league, last year 7-9, the year before
5-11, the (first)year before?? Just a thought.

Shaud got the call Sunday thats for sure, but I expected Joe Burns he's listed next on the depth chart, and is bigger than Shaud and has more experience??
Loinal Gates is the rookie listed 4th on the chart and he's bigger than both Joe and Shaud, and the same size as Willis!

Losman good, but remember the Texans lost a huge part of there secondary to the cowboys (long live bill parcells). So his preformance may not of been challenge, what little defense the Texans have scraped together in the past has downgraded, they have a horrible offense that relys too much of Domanick Davis in the first who in my opinion isn't a great back in the first place. He has his moments but nothing where he can be a run heavy guy.

The Bills on the other hand are looking good in enough areas to make a possible wildcard apperance if they can stay consistant, but its way too early to judge them especially after there first game was against a substandard team. They would need to have the power defense everyweek and McGahee everyweek aswell, they don't have any depth at RB to lose him, and any passing depth to go to a pass heavy offense.

If the Bills employ a pass heavy offense and limit it to a "West Coast" style (look short and hope for lots of YAK) they should be successful. I expect them to adopt a style simlar to Pittsburgh last year and Baltimore's when they had Dilfer at the helm. That is, the game is not on the QB's shoulders. Look to your defense to "win" games.

Good test at TB today.

LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!

Don't get too excited about the Bills yet. Last week was not that impressive a win. The offense wasn't that impressive. As people have stated they will have to rely on the D.

The first 6 weeks of the season
are nothing more than an extention of
pre-season in my book.
After week 6, everything becomes verrry interesting,
not until....

That is an interesting way of thinking of it.. Do you really think that is playing true?
Do you have two teams you would like to see go all the way?

Tino your probably close but in a 16 game regular season you dont have alot of time to dick around...............come week six some teams are already on the verge of elimination............in relation to baseball each football game is equal to 10 baseball games......not alot of time to screw around..............JMO.

Right ~~~~ After week 6, you can generally get a feel as to
who the REAL contenders will be!

Hey if they came out and won there 1st 3 games, then you'd be rooting for them right? Losman doesn't look to bad for his 3rd game as an NFL quarterback, yeah he's got some experience to acquire. There's alot of other talent on the team, too. As I stated from the get go, it was going to be a tuff year, because of his lack of experience. I didn't expect them to be playoff material his 1st year. Take your shots while you can.

we suck.. I dont get the "gills" joke Sportref? it isnt even funny.. whats up with that? Jills yes .. but hell i wouldnt want to insult the cheerleaders by comparing this crapy team with their wonderful gorgeous rah rah abilites.
even worse I've got 5 stinky fish fans here at work 3 of whom met me at the door this morning. I still hope we squish em ..but I'm not to positive on that at this point. Holcomb should start this week.

How can Losman mature/improve if he's sitting on the bench?

The Bills offensive line needs to play better, this young QB needs more protection.

You need to use McGahee at least 25 carries a game.

yeah I guess I should have clarified my statement. I would start Holcomb, maybe two- three series.. if no production then put Losman in. Maybe a little reality jolt would help improve his performance. And I agree we havent had a good offensive line since the mid 90's. Right now Willis is averaging 19.5 carries a game so I agree, that his numbers should be higher.

Run all you want at the Dolphins.....it won't help. That front seven in South Florida will hold him in check. No matter who is under center they will see a lot of blitzing. Nick Saban is using a very aggressive defense this season.

At least Bills fans will have something to look forward to. A high draft pick next year.

When he's good, J.P.'s last name is pronounced LOWS-mun. When he's bad, it's pronounced LOUSE-mun.

Guess the coach heard the second name more times than the first.

Actually the Dolphins beat the Dolphins. Not making an excuse, just pointing out the facts. The Fins played a horrible game today. Eighteen plus penalties (team record), five turnovers and still nearly won the game.

Team Total Yds Pass Rush 3rdD% TO
Miami 339 226 113 22.2% 5
Buffalo 268 169 99 42.9% 1

Buffalo won't see too many wins like that this season. They have a lot of issues with that offense still. Two touchdowns on turnovers and that is it. Basically just one quarter of offense for the Bills.

Things will be corrected in Tampa next week for the Fins. Watch the Bills struggle in NY.

Enjoy it Bills fans, because today was the highlight of your season.

We'll see you Dec 4 for the rematch.

if the Bills had some offense in the second 1/4, I don't think you could say that. Holcomb only got the call Tuesday, that he'd be starting at QB. Just maybe, with more practice, things may go a bit better for them, not making excuses It looked as though they were going to give it away, late. But they did manage to hang on, against a good 2nd half from da fish

I've been a Dolphins fan since I was 6 years old (lets just say that's along time and leave it at that). I used to love to hate the Bills. I used to love to hate Kelly, Thomas, Reed, the whole darn bunch, but now, tho I am still a die hard Dolphin Fan, I find it harder and harder to hate the Bills. Who is the to hate??? Loseman (?), sorry, can't, I feel sorry for him. Holcome (?), I can't think of him as a full-fledged Bill (even though he kicked my Dolphins but in the first half). What am I to do??

Yep Bills are tied for first this week. Dolphins penalty problems continue.

Bills fans can say the Fins suck, but you know what, both teams need to worry about beating the Pats. They are still the champs. The AFC north could turn into the NFC North if some teams don't start to play better.

BTW, yes I am a Fins Fan, but I HATE the fact that Ricky Williams is back after what he did!!! How can anyone think he will do as well as he did before he left?? Yes, he has talent, but he certainly has no HEART!! I may not know much, but I know it takes heart to succeed in what you do.

P.S. I have a life and loyalty. It's just too darn easy to pick your favorite team after you see who is winning.

what the hell was Holcomb thinking when he made that last pass short of the 1st down marker. How you gonna win if you don't take some shots down the field?

I think Malarky is a pretty good coach, and the Bills are pretty good on both sides of the ball, if they could get a decent QB, maybe they'd stand a chance. They had the game in NE, until Holcomb got conservative. When what would it have mattered if he threw the ball or not. Just because the team doesn't win every game, is not why I like the Bills. Have fun with it SportsRef. Who's your team this week?

Don't know for sure about that yet Eddie, but Losman sure isn't afraid to throw the long ball. That might have made the difference in the Pat's game. If they could have a QB that had some qualities of both of them, they might stand a chance to give NE a run for their money.

Even I would have rather watched the Cincy game! The coaching staff in Buffalo needs to be FIRED! What a pathetic offensive play calling scheme in the second half. What a pathetic defense all the way around.. where the hell was the pass coverage?? It looked liked the entire defense was just going through the motions out there....grrrr at least the fish and wets got spanked just as bad... the whole AFC "least" sucks anyway...

ok here's my take of that disgusting excuse for a football team...lead by the distgusting excuse of a coaching staff.. fourth quarter up by 20 we give them 30+ yards in penalty's the tv camera goes to Mularky and, he's standing there with the stupidest look on his face .. no yelling no mad look..NOTHING.. if that were Parcells or Cower or Coughlin or hell 90% of every other coach in the NFL they would have been going ballistic on the side lines.. then 3rd and 9 up by 6 and you run a freaking Draw play... Ralph Wilson should fire these nimrods today! I 'm all done with these pin heads for this year.. Go Colts!

Coach Mike Mularkey was quick to point out that as bad as the fans are feeling, the players are in just as much pain over the loss.

"I feel for the fans; I know how important this is to them," he said. "This is a unique situation in this city with the support we get from these fans. They need to know we're all in this together and we're doing the best we can.

"That's the makeup of this team. We're not coming through when we need to, but it's not a lack of effort, and that's important. I think fans can appreciate that about this team. They're not giving in to anything, and they're not going to."

If we're all in this together I say road trip to the Ralph and we can bitch slap Mularky around then fire his worthless coaching ass! him! who's with me?

This all stems from the front office.
Mularky has nothing to work with, thanks to Donahoe. The O-Line is a shambles, and JP Loserman will never be a dependable NFL QB.

This is the lowest I have seen this franchise since the mid-80's, and there is really no sign of it getting better.

I'm sure the Bills are still pretty devastated after that loss to the Fins, and they were only up against probably the best team in football this year. I was rather disappointed myself, but atleast they got lucky enough not to get shutout. I've always rooted for the underdog, and the Bills are definately the underdog Most all the teams I like this year are at the bottom of the heap this year.

It doesn't matter who wins the division this year. It's a sorry division and the winner will be out in the first round. They have some very tough teams in the other divisions of the AFC that will spank anyone that wins that division. I'll bet they wish they kept Drew another year. They would be fighting for first place right now.

I would say that isn't true. They have several former Pro-Bowl players on defense and what is considered a generally solid D. As far as offense they have a very good running back. Sure the QB is young, but he is very mobile.

The play calling was horrible in that game yesterday.

Someone mentioned the Pats are the best team in football. Wrong! they are the defending champs but they are definitely not the best team.

Bills fans should be very upset. A win yesterday would have kept their playoff hopes alive. Yes the AFC east is a weak division, but when you get in the playoffs, anything can happen.

They have no offensive line, thus, no running game.

FORMER all pros. Mean Joe Green is a FORMER all pro. Would you want him on defense.

Point being, this team got old on Tom Donahoe's watch. I would reluctantly give Mularky another year, but clean house in the front office.

This is as much Mularky's fault as it is Donahoe's.......As a die hard Bills hater I'm loving every minute of this........Donahoe put this mess of young junk and old junk together and it's Mularky and his group of non football coaches who do the play calling..............as far as I'm concerned leave Donahoe and Mularky in place...............BTW, just heard on ESPN that the Bills will probably release Moulds in March as he wants to win and the Bills cant have such a malcontent with a winning attitude running around in their locker room...........GO RALPH>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>LOL.

Drew would have been put on life support by now if he had to play another year behind that offensive line.
I don't know why you think the Bills would be fighting for first place with Drew. He has better players and better coaching around him in Dallas, and the Plowboys aren't going to make the playoffs, either.

Holcomb will start against Denver

Injured Losman hasn't practiced, but may be ready as backup

Sal Maiorana
Staff writer

(December 15, 2005) ORCHARD PARK Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey announced Wednesday after practice that Kelly Holcomb will start Saturday night's nationally televised ESPN game against Denver at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

J.P. Losman, hobbled by a sore leg and an injury to his throwing shoulder incurred in last week's loss to New England, sat out practice for a second straight day and will not be ready to play.

Mularkey said Losman may attempt to throw today, and hopefully he will be available to serve as Holcomb's backup.

Holcomb will be starting his sixth game of the year. He was 2-2 during a four-game stretch in October, then started Buffalo's victory over Kansas City on Nov. 13. However, he left that game early in the second quarter with a concussion and while he gets credit for the victory on his record, Losman actually produced the win with a pair of touchdown passes.

Holcomb hasn't played since, but having taken all the snaps in practice the last two days, Mularkey said he'll be ready to go Saturday.

Losman watched the team practice Wednesday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. It's not clear when he was hurt against the Patriots, but he was sacked twice and knocked down several other times by the Patriots defense.

Losman finished the game 10 of 27 for 181 yards with three interceptions and a 37.0 quarterback rating.

Losman, the second of Buffalo's two first-round draft picks in 2004, was awarded the starting job in February.

After leading Buffalo to a season-opening 22-7 win over Houston, Losman has lost seven consecutive starts.

Holcomb will start against Denver

Injured Losman hasn't practiced, but may be ready as backup

(December 15, 2005) ORCHARD PARK Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey announced Wednesday after practice that Kelly Holcomb will start Saturday night's nationally televised ESPN game against Denver at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

J.P. Losman, hobbled by a sore leg and an injury to his throwing shoulder incurred in last week's loss to New England, sat out practice for a second straight day and will not be ready to play.

Mularkey said Losman may attempt to throw today, and hopefully he will be available to serve as Holcomb's backup.

Bills football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player
reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field.
Head Coach Mike Mularkey immediately suspended practice while police and
federal investigators were called to investigate.

After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white
substance unknown to the players was the goal line.

Practice was resumed after special agents decided the team

was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

it's nice to see them pull one off on the road, and try to end the season on a positive note. That's really got to help them feel a bit better about their season. Would have liked to see the Packers do the same, and you had to have seen they tried. Most of the teams I usually root for didn't do well this season, I've got something to look forward to next year atleast they almost have to do better next year

Buffalo is at a position in this years draft to get a quality offensive lineman or wide reciever....Green Bay will get a shot at one of the top QB's either Young or Lienard....and Houston and the 49er's will play for Reggie Bush in the Bush Bowl, but personally if I were them I'd be trading that first pick for quality players and future draft picks, i'm not big on over rated rookies, very few of them pan out at this level, especially with what the going price is for the top pick in the draft these days somewhere in the ball park of 12-15 million a season over four years thats alot of money that could be spent on proven veterans....JMO...BBC

They go with O-Line unless Leinart is there so they can end this debacle at QB. Don't need an end, Lee Evans is their future. Could use a tight end. Defense will be OK with players getting healthy. Secondary is fine. MaGahee will be good (before he jumps ship for warmer climes) when they fix the O-Line but which way, a run oriented or pass protection oriented lineman. They are so specialized these days (damn Mel Kiper).
