Actually, if Matsui and the Yankees agree the date can be pushed out. This date thing is not a league mandated thing. It's just in Hideki's contract. If they're close it will happen.

My picks are formally registered with mlb.com. If I don't tweak any of them anymore today that is what I will post. Unfortunately i will probably wait till late today to put them here because i don't want to come back later and modify them here. I still hope we get more players. 8 last year, 5 or 6 so far this year. Hope regular baseball posters dive in. Wedggie's in with Damon going to the Yankees. Blows my mind!

WORTH EVERY PENNY! This guy is a machine. Wind him up and watch his numbers get bettr every year. He feels like (dare I say) Paullie!

Now, does he play left or center??? Borrowing from George Thorogood I'd "Move it on over". Crates a void in left. Fill it with...Jacque Jones (see FAF).

Hopefully, they worked something out where as he can take a day off every now and then. That international record "thing" needs to be obliterated someway, somehow ...... pronto !

It won't be stopped. It will go on.

I mentioned this on the FAF thread but it's probably more appropriate here (these 2 threads tend to overlap more than they probably should but this is Yankkes discussion fodder).

Carl Pavano gets traded to Detroit (who can't get A. J Burnett) in exchange for Nook Logan who takes over in centerfield. Detroit has Curtis ganderson slated for CF and leadoff. Logan is expendable and they need pitching (they say). Logan is a switch hitter with big time speed and is young...25ish. This probably blows up my jacque Jones and Burnett FAF pix but I don't care. THIS is the trade they need to make. The 2nd coming of Mick the Quick. I like it.

"Mick the Quick", the guy who looked like he couldn't run a lick if you watched him walk his slow, toed in style.

I can honestly say, I don't know much about Logan. What's he hit for avg. ??

Nook Logan: 6'3", 180 lbs, turns 26 on 11/28/05. Throws right, bats switch.
Played in 47 games in 2004 and 129 games in 2005. Career BA .264 (.258 in '05). 1 HR, 27 RBIs career, 31 SBs career in 455 ABs (23 in '05). Hits .208 in Detroit, .301 on the road. BA in last month of season was .333. Originally drafted by Yankees in 1998 in 40th round. Chose to go to junior college in home state of Mississippi instead of sign then.

I remember seeing him in a Yankees Tigers game this year and he made a couple of real slick plays in centerfield, going to the wall and "climbing it" to steal hits.

And he bats leadoff! The Yankees don't need a 25 HR leadoff man. They need a table setter for the big guns. They need someone who gets on base so jeter in the 2 hole sees fastballs regularly and can work his magic hitting behind the runneer.

I think Logan is our guy and I hope Cashman pursues this. And he's a beanpole like Mickey Rivers who, yes Tino, looked like he climbed out of a wheelchair when he walked, but boy could he run.

Does Cashman even remotely have this acquisition in his peripheral sights ?

Again, I'm not that familiar with Logan, but you sure do sell an unknown product well!! As you have said numerous times here, gotta get younger !

I like your plan for centerfield alot better than another rumor I've been reading about. ICHIRO!!!!!!!!

Sure, the guy is a great natural athlete, similar to ARod, and could handle switching to centerfield (strong arm & speed), and would be a solid lead off hitter, allowing Jeter to slide to the 2 slot!

But, we'd have to give up WAY TOO MUCH for that deal to ever materialize. I'm thinking that trade would include Cano and Wang.

I like what you're suggesting.........

Ichiro is not going anywhere now that he has a Japanese playmate at catcher. Smart move by the Japanese owned Mariners. Hope this guy speaks English. Can you imagine the looks on the pitchers' faces when he comes out to visit the mound. "What did he just say???"

So happy to be wrong. KUDOS to my Yankees for respecting Bernie Williams and letting the system bring him back to the bronx next year. Sometimes baseball's multi-layered systems get it right...and this is an example of getting it right.

Welcome back Bernie. Look forwrad to some magic next year you young, old man.

NO FREAKIN' WAY. WON'T HAPPEN.
He's now talking to the Dodgers. That's where he belongs, out of the limelight. My Boston based brother reminded me that Nomar turned down $60 mil over 4 years when he was a Free Agent because he wanted Jeter money. Now he'll be lucky to get 2 mil...but not in NY.

Besides, I have Ramon (in reverse) going to LALALand on my FAF pick so do it you broken down 5th rate has been "I'll play anywhere" baseball whore.

Oh and get a boob job for your wife. She can use it if you move to LA.

Unofficial but looks like it. So we now go back to thinking about centerfield. Corey Patterson probably becomes available on Tuesday from the Cubs. Maybe...or maybe Melky again next year.

Cabrera is hitting .298 (25-for-84) with six doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs, five stolen bases and an impressive .375 on-base percentage through the first 31 games of the season.

Cabrera has walked 11 times and struck out nine times, a great improvement from his 37 walks and 87 strikeouts in 132 games with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Columbus in 2005.
