Congrats Lil' Red! Onward.

Flynn McCarthy's goal enough for Ithaca in win over Oneonta in STAC boys soccer final

Ithaca Journal
Oct. 17, 2019

The game was played in a persistent misting rain that was sent sideways by a steady but manageable wind. The contest featured two powerhouses that had already earned top seeds for the Section 4 tournament.

STAC West champion Ithaca improved to 12-2-1 and East champ Oneonta fell to 13-2. The Little Red advanced to the final on penalty kicks after playing Maine-Endwell to an official 4-4 tie in the semifinal Tuesday night. Oneonta had a bye into the final.

"Oneonta is a great team," Ithaca coach Gilbert Antoine said. "They played well. They’re big, they’re fast. The advantage we have tonight is the ball control we have. As I told my guys at the very beginning, the wind is not that great, but keep the ball low, move the ball. Because we’re really good when it comes to soft touches. That’s what got us the win tonight was our soft touches. Beautiful pass to Flynn and he capitalized."

The STAC title was Ithaca's first since winning back-to-back championships in 2014 and 2015.

Up Next:

Ithaca is the top seed for the Section 4 Class AA tournament and will host fourth-seeded Corning (5-7-2) in a semifinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 30. Ithaca has won six consecutive sectional titles, including a 1-1 tie against Horseheads last year. The Blue Raiders went to states after winning the penalty-kick shootout.

On a golden goal. Congratulations Express.

McKenna Ross scores overtime winner as Elmira girls claim Section 4 Class AA soccer title

https://www.ithacajournal.com/story/spor...hip/2503212001/

Elmira reclaimed its status as the top Section 4 Class AA girls soccer program Friday night using a familiar formula: A corner kick led to an Express goal and stellar play all over the field kept Ithaca off the scoreboard.

The game's lone score finally came from senior McKenna Ross with 7 minutes, 13 seconds left in the second 10-minute

overtime period. Ithaca couldn't mount a serious scoring chance thereafter and the Express held on for a 1-0 victory in the Section 4 Class AA championship game at Waverly Memorial Stadium.

The Express (11-3-3) avenged last year's 4-3 loss to Ithaca in the sectional championship game and won the crown for the third time in four seasons and fifth time since 2013. The Express was playing in the final for the eighth year in a row.
