Congrats Lil' Red! Onward.Flynn McCarthy's goal enough for Ithaca in win over Oneonta in STAC boys soccer final Ithaca Journal
Oct. 17, 2019
The game was played in a persistent misting rain that was sent sideways by a steady but manageable wind. The contest featured two powerhouses that had already earned top seeds for the Section 4 tournament.
STAC West champion Ithaca improved to 12-2-1 and East champ Oneonta fell to 13-2. The Little Red advanced to the final on penalty kicks after playing Maine-Endwell to an official 4-4 tie in the semifinal Tuesday night. Oneonta had a bye into the final.
"Oneonta is a great team," Ithaca coach Gilbert Antoine said. "They played well. They’re big, they’re fast. The advantage we have tonight is the ball control we have. As I told my guys at the very beginning, the wind is not that great, but keep the ball low, move the ball. Because we’re really good when it comes to soft touches. That’s what got us the win tonight was our soft touches. Beautiful pass to Flynn and he capitalized."

The STAC title was Ithaca's first since winning back-to-back championships in 2014 and 2015.
