WASHINGTON—A budget deal headed to final passage, while a Supreme Court ruling paved the way for a border wall and Robert Mueller’s congressional testimony landed few new blows to President Trump last week.

As the president accelerates his 2020 re-election effort, that run of news aids his campaign, people from both parties agreed. Still, there are potential speed bumps ahead, including the unresolved trade negotiations with China and the pace of U.S. economic growth—as well as the president’s ability at times to distract attention from his own record, as he did this weekend in creating a furor over tweets targeting Rep. Elijah Cummings (D., Md.).

“I think Trump looks as well positioned for his re-election as he ever has,” said Republican strategist Alex Conant, who worked on Sen. Marco Rubio’s 2016 presidential bid. But he warned: “If the economy slows down in 2020 nothing else matters. Presidents tend not to win re-election when the economy is slowing.”

Mr. Trump is seeking to shore up support for what is expected to be a competitive presidential race. The points he scored in the past week bolster his argument that he is delivering on his promise to build a border wall and is committed to promoting economic stability, while the Russia investigation led by Mr. Mueller recedes after shadowing much of Mr. Trump’s first term.

Mr. Trump might get more welcome news Wednesday when the Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by a quarter percentage point.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for not lowering rates sooner to boost growth. The Commerce Department said last week that the U.S. economy slowed, but still grew at a solid clip in the second quarter.

Another economic item ahead this week: A U.S. delegation is expected to travel to China for trade talks, the first negotiations since the Group of 20 summit in June where the two sides had hoped to conclude an agreement but failed. The president’s trade standoff with China has put pressure on America’s farmers, an important constituency for Mr. Trump.

Overall, Mr. Trump remains in an uncertain position, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll taken July 7-9. It showed that three of the top Democratic presidential candidates—former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders—lead Mr. Trump among voters nationally in test matchups, while Sen. Kamala Harris, is essentially tied. Less than 50% of registered voters said they approved of his performance in office.

Mr. Trump is expected to continue targeting Democrats as out of touch with the electorate and pursuing politically motivated investigations.

This weekend, he portrayed the Maryland district of Mr. Cummings, chairman of the House Oversight committee and a senior African-American lawmaker, as “dangerous & filthy” and “a rodent infested mess,” prompting Democrats to accuse Mr. Trump of stoking racial divisions. He in turn responded that Democrats “always play the Race Card.”

“He might tweet once about the economy, but then within the same hour he says something else that is bombastic and takes us in a different direction,” said Democratic strategist Karen Finney, who served on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

White House and Congressional negotiators last week struck a two-year budget deal that increases spending and lifts the government’s borrowing limit. While some conservative lawmakers balked at the terms, it was viewed as a rare moment of bipartisan compromise and it helped the president get an agreement that extends past the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump had made clear internally that he wanted a two-year deal and supported the negotiations led by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He also promoted the deal to congressional Republicans, encouraging them to support it.

Mr. Trump’s week concluded with a Supreme Court decision that paves the way for the Trump administration to use $2.5 billion in military funds to build more than 100 miles of barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Trump now has the jet fuel to turbo charge the building on the Southern border wall,” said Steve Bannon, Mr. Trump’s former chief strategist. “The implications for 2020 couldn’t be bigger.” Mr. Bannon and one of the president’s sons, Donald Trump Jr., were in New Mexico recently for an event touting their efforts to build a border barrier on private land.

Mr. Trump hasn’t persuaded Mexico to pay for the wall as he said he would, though he argues Mexico will do so indirectly through a new North American trade deal he hopes to get through Congress.

It is unclear just how quickly any new barriers can be built. The Trump administration has found it slow to build physical barriers at the southern border, especially where there were previously none, but also in seeking to replace existing structures that Customs and Border Protection says are outdated and no longer fit for their purpose.

Among the hurdles: the lengthy process of issuing government contracts, as well as breaking ground in areas that aren’t federally owned and where owners have rights to object to construction, and in areas where the land is federally owned but construction has still been challenged in court.

Still, experts said they expect at least some new barriers or fencing to be built within the next year. “I’d be surprised if we don’t see some fencing, something he can call a wall, before the election in 2020,” said Andrew Selee, the president of the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington-based nonpartisan immigration research think tank.


Mr. Trump still faces the threat of possible impeachment by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. But such a move also is politically risky for the Democrats, many of whom want to focus on policy issues as the election nears. And any impeachment drive is almost certain to founder in the Senate.

Some Democrats had hoped the former special counsel’s testimony last week would further their case for impeachment. But before two House committees, Mr. Mueller provided little fresh insight into his investigation into Russian election interference.

According to FBI statistics gathered annually, far more people are killed with hammers and other blunt objects each year than are killed by “assault rifles.” The mass shootings this country has experienced are farther down on the list for causes of “homicidal deaths.” Certainly a single death is a tragedy, but let’s not continue to allow politicians to blame the NRA and responsible gun ownership in America for a problem that is far more complicated than just guns.

Politicians going for the ‘low hanging fruit’ such as the NRA and “white nationalism” stirred up by President Trump’s supposed racist rhetoric is not just intellectual laziness, it’s also a lie. But then again we’ve come to expect lies from the Socialist Democrat Party. Their modus operandi is to repeat a lie over and over until it is accepted as truth by the weak minded.

When I grew up in rural Missouri every teenager had a rifle hanging in a rifle rack in the back window of their pickup truck, and they weren’t shooting up their schools or communities. We weren’t turning on the television to see lip-quivering politicians placing the blame everywhere else than where it belongs, which is on the perpetrator of any heinous crime.

So what has changed? Part of the answer is that now we have a 24-hour sensationalist news cycle that is driven by a political agenda and profits. As the old news saying goes, “if it bleeds it leads.”


The larger contributing factor though is our decades-long decline in morality in America which has contributed far more to the mass violence incidents we have been experiencing than anything else. What was once considered deviant and unacceptable behavior has today become celebrated, even encouraged. As more and more letters of the alphabet are added to the list of protected sexual classes the nation grows more and more depraved.

Human life has become so devalued that it is declared by the news media and the Socialist Democrats that killing a baby at the instant of full term birth for no other reason than “I changed my mind” is defended as a “right”. Socialist Democrats like Andrew Cuomo in New York were nearly giddy over the signing of a full term abortion bill into law in the Empire State. Others of his party have championed the murder of the most innocent of our society, our pre-birth children, as nothing more than squishing out a pimple on their face.


Video games that depict gratuitous and graphic violence with body parts flying off in all directions after being blasted with a weapon are being played by young impressionable minds for hours every single day. The more ‘people’ you can blast away into lumps of blood and gore, the more points you score.


Our movies and television programming often shows the most graphic explosions and violence, with each action film trying to outdo the previous one in violent content. You can’t convince me that viewing hours and hours of this graphic material every single day does not have at least some impact on how some young impressionable minds view human beings.

Violence by black clad thugs on our city streets and at our colleges and universities is tolerated by politicians and school administrators to the point of even their police departments being given orders to stand down while people are being brutalized by these terrorist organizations.

Our children are fed a steady diet of ‘social justice drivel’ from so-called educators who are really no more than communist indoctrination specialists, or in fact deviants themselves trying to justify their own behavior.

What’s really behind these shootings is sixty plus years of liberalism shoved down the throats of families in America, all in the name of tolerance and being inclusive. Responsibility and accountability are foreign concepts to the social engineers who view ‘society’ as being at fault.


We have been called ”clingers,” “deplorables” and “the dregs of society” by politicians in order to drum up hatred towards anyone who doesn’t subscribe to their viewpoint. We are pontificated to and told that we are an ‘ist’ or a ‘phobe,’ simply because we don’t agree with their philosophy or politically correct way of thinking.


For wanting to secure our borders and expect people to obey our laws, including our immigration laws, we are painted as xenophobes by the Socialist Democrats and their supporters in the news media.

Charges of racism are levied against us if we deign to think differently about the solutions to the problems that continue to bedevil the black community. Based solely on the fact that after doing the same thing for 60 years we choose to look for different answers instead of the insanity of repeating the same mistakes yet again.

Are there racists within the ranks of Trump supporters? I suspect that there are a very small percentage who hold racist views. The same as there are most certainly racists within the Socialist Democrat Party. Every walk of life has people in its ranks who hold what would be considered racist views.


But the truth is that the overwhelming vast majority of Trump supporters could care less about the color of anyone’s skin when they make a judgment on the character of another person. It just doesn’t matter anymore. Unlike the Socialist Democrats who can’t seem to put skin color behind them.

And the overwhelming vast majority of Trump supporters and responsible gun owners wouldn’t think of or resort to violence in our streets, unlike the Antifa terrorists who are given free reign by the Socialist Democrats.

Decades of liberalism and social engineering have brought us to the point where violence is used to solve disagreements. Either with a gun, a knife, a hammer, or driving a car onto a sidewalk and running over pedestrians. Or with a truck full of fertilizer.

Deranged people will find a way.

LOL, we see that the A hole POTUS suggest medal awards to the officers involved with shooting in Dayton, Senator Brown and the mayor begged to differ with him and told him the best thing he could do in helping the police officers, getting assault weapon out of the hands of these killers.......Just as we thought, no human compassion or sensitivity...only another photo opt.

The press particularly wanted to know what he thought of his accusers tying his rhetoric to the shooting in El Paso. The suspect used language similar to that of Trump's immigration remarks in his online manifesto, according to some.

"My critics are political people," Trump said. "They’re trying to make points. In many cases, they are running for president and they’re very low in the polls."

He couldn’t be more right if he’s talking about presidential candidates Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, both of whom are struggling to gain even single digit support. As representatives of last weekend's targeted states, they've been two of the most vocal critics of Trump since the shootings. O'Rourke has been especially condemnatory, saying on Monday that Trump has been "reveling in the hatred and the racism" in the country. He's thrown in a few expletives too. The president told him to "be quiet," but other than that he hasn't said much of the critique.


"As much as possible, I’ve tried to stay out of that," Trump said at the White House on Wednesday.

In fact, when discussing the shooting in Dayton, which was orchestrated by a young man who claimed to be a "leftist," Trump said he didn't blame Democrats for the bloodshed. He blamed "sick people."

Yet, when speaking to reporters on Tuesday, she said that the president has been "unhelpful" and she plans to tell him that herself. She also encouraged protesters to do their thing when he arrives.

The liberal media is the arm of the Democratic Party and its agenda. That’s no secret. But if they think they can get away with what they’re doing with the Dayton shooting—their arrogance (or stupidity) has reached unprecedented levels. I mean, there have been pretty explicit examples, but we've seen some pretty epic ‘hold my beer’ moments, as the various arms of this corrupt enterprise seem to be in a competition to out-do one another in displaying their liberal bias.

In less than 24 hours, we had two brutal mass shootings. In all, 31 people have been killed and scores more injured. In El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, two armed nutjobs executed senseless acts of carnage. The political games began almost immediately. El Paso was committed by a white supremacist, whose anti-immigrant views were just as explicit as his apparent adherence to eco-terrorism. In Dayton, the shooter, Connor Betts, a disturbed individual who had a kill and rape lists of his classmates, was an avowed leftist, who backed Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), gun control, and supported the left-wing extremist group Antifa. These aren’t necessarily clear-cut cases of white supremacist violence, which the media has tried to force-feed down our throats. There’s loads of nuance.

Of course, the media and the Left are trying to blame Trump, his supporters, the NRA, the GOP, and anyone who has a different opinion. I’m talking about El Paso. They don’t even mention Dayton, whose perpetrator’s political history is not worthy of mentioning. I wonder why?

Well, first, let’s give a hat tip to our brave law enforcement officers who confronted and killed Betts 30 seconds into his rampage (via WSJ):

A gunman wearing body armor killed nine people and injured at least 27 in a neighborhood of bars and restaurants here, in the second mass shooting in the U.S. in less than 24 hours and the third in eight days.

The gunman, identified by police as Connor Betts, 24 years old, was killed by police. Among the dead was the suspected shooter’s 22-year-old sister, police said, and her companion was among the injured.

The shooting began just after 1 a.m. on Sunday in the Oregon District, a popular spot on weekend nights, officials said. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said that officers, who regularly patrol the area, heard gunfire and located the shooter within 20 seconds and killed him 10 seconds later as he tried to enter a bar.

Now, CNN has admitted Betts supported Antifa, though its reporters did everything they could to marginalize the development. It’s beyond absurd. Political convictions matter when it can be weaponized against Republicans and the Trump White House, as in the case of El Paso. But when it’s a left-winger killing people—don’t you dare bring up his or her social media history and political views. With Betts, leaving politics aside, he was totally insane; he showed videos of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting while on a date.

A Twitter account that appears to belong to Dayton shooter Connor Betts retweeted extreme left-wing and anti-police posts as well as tweets supporting the violent protest group Antifa.

The most recent tweet on the @iamthespookster account was on Aug. 3, the day of the shooting, when he retweeted a post saying, “Millenials have a message for the Joe Biden generation: hurry up and die.” He also retweeted support for Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Under the Twitter handle @iamthespookster, the user description says, “He/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / I’m going to hell and I’m not coming back.” One tweet used the hashtag #HailSatan.

In the hours before the Dayton shooting, the account “liked” several tweets about the El Paso shooting, including one supporting gun control and others that called the El Paso shooting suspect a “terrorist,” and a “white supremacist.”

The account also retweeted posts against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including one that said, “These people are monsters,” as well as multiple posts condemning police, and supporting Antifa. There were also many tweets of selfies, photos with a friend and ordinary memes and non-political content.

The account is no longer active, but Twitter would not confirm to CNN whether it had removed the account, only saying in a statement, “We're proactively removing content that violates our policies and will be engaged with law enforcement, as appropriate.”

“I don’t know if this is the motive that made him snap,” El-Fakir said, “(but I think) he donned himself with that ballistic vest just to show people how easy it was to arm themselves. It’s pure speculation.”

“He never once spit out a conservative opinion on gun control,” El-Fakir said.

You don't have to be a detective to figure out why the liberal media would rather have this story just fade away. It's not the right kind of mass shooting.
