SafetyPin-Daily @SafetyPinDaily ·1m Trump called in to Fox News to complain that he can't separate immigrant families anymore || via: MotherJoneshttps://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/04/trump-fox-news-family-separation-phone-a-friend/
Last June, US District Judge Dana Sabraw ordered the Trump administration to find and reunite the over 2,000 migrant families that had been separated, imposing a 30-day deadline. But the administration had quietly enacted the policy long before that, and the number of children possibly separated may have numbered in the thousands. In January, the Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General issued a report that “thousands of children may have been separated during an influx that began in 2017, before the accounting required by the Court.” HHS in some cases lost track of the children. “The total number of children separated from a parent or guardian by immigration authorities is unknown,” the report stated. This week, Sabraw gave the government a six-month deadline to locate the children.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/04/robert-...p-crime-family/Robert Mueller wasn’t Superman: Straight-arrow prosecutor no match for Trump crime familyBob Cesca, Salon BOB CESCA, SALON - COMMENTARY 30 APR 2019 AT 08:41 ET At the very least, with the Justice Department’s rule about indicting a sitting president in mind, Mueller should have explicitly recommended to Congress and the attorney general obstruction charges or articles of impeachment against the president, in writing and without any semantic gray area.
Instead, Mueller coldly described a dozen or so instances of obstruction with a four-word “does not exonerate him” tap on the wrist at the outset, allowing William Barr more than enough room to preemptively exonerate Trump and his crime family weeks ahead of the actual report being made public — an obvious and grotesque PR maneuver that further weakened Mueller’s conclusions. All that said, we still have more to learn from Mueller, and we’ll certainly get that opportunity when he testifies before Congress, hopefully sooner rather than later. We deserve to know why he made certain decisions that will inevitably alter the trajectory of American history. Meanwhile, we’re left with a divided Democratic Party, half demanding impeachment while the other half is making the same mistake Mueller made — believing the next election will be normal enough to depose Trump via the ballot box, despite the reality that American elections continue to be corrupted by Russia, and possibly others, to help Trump retain power.
Trump has to be held accountable for all of it. He has to be humiliated so badly that Americans fear to be associated with his name. Perhaps through congressional hearings Mueller will shed enough additional light on Trump’s crimes so as to supercharge a sense of urgency in Congress and among Democrats at large. But I’m not getting my hopes up again, and neither should you.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/04/trumps-...er-build-there/The small town of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin has found itself torn apart by a deal to build a Foxconn manufacturing plant — and now it looks like the company might not even deliver the jobs that it promised.
The Wall Street Journal reports that contractors working for Foxconn have “bulldozed about 75 homes in Mount Pleasant and cleared hundreds of farmland acres” in preparation for the construction of the factory in the town.
However, the town still hasn’t even seen Foxconn’s building plans for the factory and contractors have not been regularly visiting the site of the proposed plant in recent weeks. This lack of progress has left residents in the town angry and anxious — particularly those people who have had their land seized to build the plant.
“At some point we’re talking about things that are just imaginary,” Nick Demske, a commissioner in Racine County, tells the Journal of the proposed Foxconn plant. “We’re pretending.”
The Foxconn deal was backed by President Donald Trump in 2017 and was hyped as a key part of his plan to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. Since then, however, the project has been beset by numerous setbacks, and Foxconn has hinted in recent months that it will primarily be hiring white-collar works at its Wisconsin facility instead of blue-collar workers to manufacture LCD screens.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/04/here-is...-calls-it-sick/The latest “scam” that President Donald Trump is perpetuating might be his most ridiculous, according to The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent.
What’s the new scam? Trump has recently claimed that his administration was sending undocumented migrants to sanctuary cities.
“Now we’re sending many of them to sanctuary cities, thank you very much,” he told a crowd at a Wisconsin rally. “They ain’t too happy about it. I’m proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea.”
The president has also claimed that he tried to send migrants to sanctuary cities — but the cities rejected them.
But, as Sargent points out, there is no evidence that any of this is actually happening.
“Right now, Trump isn’t just claiming migrants are being dumped into sanctuary cities, when they aren’t. This lie also supports a second lie, which is that those cities are rejecting them, when they aren’t,” he explained.
“This second idea is supposed to confirm that Trump is right: Yes, asylum seekers getting released into the interior is so horrible that even those hypocritical liberal elitists don’t want them around. But it’s all based on nonsense. All of it.”
The columnist called Trump’s tactics “bread-and-circuses cruelty” — in other words, Trump tells his “voters that he’s undertaking some sort of cruel action that he isn’t actually taking, simply because he believes they’ll thrill to his claim that he is.”
Even if the Trump did follow through with his plan, experts think it would be a logistical nightmare — and would help immigrants stay in the United States.
“It’s illogical,” Angela Chan, a senior attorney with the San Francisco-based Asian Law Caucus, told the Associated Press. “It’s just alarming that they are spending so much effort and so much time to engage in political theater.”

https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/everything-hits-t-fan/17656/Everything hits the fanBill Palmer | 9:09 am EDT April 30, 2019 Whatever this is all shaping up to be, it’s happening. We’ve got resignations, subpoenas, high stakes showdowns, last ditch legal efforts, and a series of cascading chess matches all nearing checkmate at nearly the same time. This week might go down in the history books – not as a positive one, but perhaps a pivotal one that finally sent this cautionary tale of a presidency on a path toward its downfall. The President of the United States just filed personal lawsuits against two of his own banks, in an effort at preventing them from turning over his financial records as evidence in a potential impeachment effort, and that may not even be the biggest story of the day. Even as Donald Trump goes to desperate lengths to prevent Deutsche Bank and Capital One from giving him up, Trump’s Attorney General is left trying to decide just how much further down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go for Trump, and whether he’s willing to risk criminal consequences for himself. Maybe William Barr will show up and testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, where he’ll face a hired prosecutor looking to expose his obstruction of justice antics, or maybe he’ll skip out and do whatever it is that a cretin like William Barr does when he’s trying to relax. If Barr does bail, he’ll either be subpoenaed, or House Democrats will jump straight to holding him in contempt of Congress. Either way, Barr’s testimony (or non-testimony) will open the door for the Democrats to bring in the witnesses that they – and Americans – want to hear from. Even as this plays out, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein just resigned, while handing in a resignation letter that reads more like a love letter to Donald Trump. That’ll come back to bite him. After William Barr makes his decision about whether to play contempt roulette, Rosenstein will be hauled in as well. But that’s a matter for next week. For now, there’s enough hitting the fan at once as it is.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/04/embarra...award-ceremony/Embarrassment for Trump as teachers of the year shun White House award ceremonyNoor Al-Sibai NOOR AL-SIBAI 30 APR 2019 AT 14:36 ET Two state teachers of the year skipped a White House awards ceremony meant to honor them to protest President Donald Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
Education Week reported that rather than attend the Oval Office ceremony on Monday, Kentucky Teacher of the Year Jessica Dueñas and Minnesota Teacher of the Year Kelly Holstine decided to hold a press conference on Tuesday to explain why they weren’t attending.
“It’s uncomfortable for me right now to not be with my peers, but it’s the right choice,” Dueñas, a 6th-grade special education teacher at W.E.B. DuBois Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, told Ed Week. “When I’m gone someday from this earth, I feel like I’m going to be on the right side of history, for speaking up for my students and my state in this manner.”
Holstine, who described herself as an “out, gender-non-conforming lesbian” and Minnesota’s first teacher of the year from the LGBTQ community, said she could not attend due to the Trump administration’s homophobic and transphobic policies.
“I feel that the policies of this administration, and the homophobia and the transphobia and the demonizing of the LGBTQ people, is so damaging and hurtful,” she said. “And it creates an environment where other folks feel emboldened to also feel that hatred.”
Holstine explained to Ed Week that many of her students at Tokata Learning Center in Shakopee, MN, an alternative learning center, are undocumented, have family who are undocumented or are Somali refugees.
“I cannot in good conscience even implicitly support an administration that does not support my students,” Holstine said.
Dueñas revealed to the magazine that one of her parents was formerly undocumented and said the Trump administration’s family separation policy was one of the main factors in her decision to boycott the ceremony
