In 2017, for the first time in twenty years, Mexico topped the list of International Living's annual ranking of the best places for U.S. citizens to retire. The population of Americans in Mexico is rising, in size as well as in age.

Yet most of them may be there illegally. South of the border, it's relatively easy for U.S. citizens to live without legal documentation. In fact, some official reports indicate that illegal Americans seem to be the rule, not the exception.

One 2015 study from Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography reveals that a stunning 91.2 percent of Americans in the country don't have their papers in order. That figure includes typos and other minor irregularities, and doesn't appear to account for dual nationals.

The welcome many American immigrants feel in Mexico stands in stark contrasts to the way their Mexican counterparts are treated by Uncle Sam.

At the border crossing into Tijuana from San Diego, Americans can drive straight into Mexico without stopping or showing any kind of identification.

"The Dems are not for open borders. Trump has closed some of the usual entry points and made long wait times to enter legally. Without Mexicans to pick our fruit and vegetables we would soon run out of fresh produced because it is next to impossible to find American citizens to do that work. Ask anyone who employs them."--- true none of them say that but thats kind of what catch and release was. Remember? An illegal immigrant would be caught and asked to report at a later date only to never show up as required. Surprise, surprise. I don't believe anyone is brain dead enough to think their aren't honest good men and women that want to come here and work and we need them too. We also need some accountability from Mexico on who comes here to work and live. If you get a DWI you can't legally get into Canada. Why would it/ should it be any different on our southern border? Truthfully if either party were truly concerned about the inhumanity this whole situation creates it would have been resolved long ago. My thought is come in legally or face consequences when caught. There needs to be a clear path to citizenship and not necessarily an easy one.

https://fingerlakes1.com/2019/02/01/owne...acket-orchards/

“Statistics show that for every migrant farm position that we have out there on the farm, there are four additional full-time domestic jobs that are created to that business’ function,” said Mark Nicholson, co-owner of Red Jacket Orchards.

Red Jacket Orchards, a 600-acre third generation family-owned farm has increased its participation in the H-2A visa worker program for this past harvest season.

Previously, Red Jacket began its affiliation with the federal worker program on behalf of the Department of Labor who works in collaboration with the Department of State and Homeland Security during their apple harvest season in 2017.

Starting in the March 2018, 15 workers arrived to start pruning trees and an additional crew arrived for the actual harvest season, expanding the overall number of H-2A employees at Red Jacket to total 35 foreign workers, all of which hail from Mexico; a notable increase from the 2017 harvest season in order to accommodate the company’s growing needs for skilled labor and to fulfill a much-needed void for physically demanding work on the farm.

“The ability to attract and retain migrant labor without the program had been increasingly difficult year after year. That labor just wasn’t available,” Nicholson continued.

He went on to further add, “This past season was the first year that we solely relied upon H-2A for all of our farm labor needs.”

While there are federal requirements for H-2A sponsor companies to provide transportation for their workers from their country of origin to the worksite as well as other transportation needs and mandatory housing for laborers, Nicholson is passionate in cultivating connections with the greater Geneva community for enhanced social and communal networks.

“Fortunately, there is a pretty robust Mexican community. Actually, some of the folks who we are recruiting to the program have family networks already in Geneva and is helpful for them and the group that comes up with them,” Nicholson added.

Nicholson also considered increasing the number of workers in the future as the orchard may expand, but he added, “But that is usually a five-year process from developing an orchard idea to bringing it to harvest.”

Nicholson emphasized the importance of food education for consumers about the growth and production of fruits, vegetables and other labor-intensive products, hoping to gain a new perspective about the positive role that migrants play in the economy.

“The average consumer may not realize how many times that product has been touched by migrant workers,” Nicholson said.

As a company, Nicholson believes that Red Jacket Orchards has an important role in expressing this knowledge and role by which agricultural migrants partake in, especially when it comes to how food arrives to store shelves.

Without this foundational understanding, Nicholson fears that the nation’s food security of homegrown products is at a potential risk when policies and programs for locally food and labor force initiatives are not present in communities. Instead, imported goods may seem as the only probable alternative to domestically-grown resources, an exorbitant endeavor altogether.
.
However, the direct and indirect costs that are associated to the H-2A program are even costly, but seem necessary, in the eyes of Nicholson, when he added, “While the program is very expensive, it is at least at this point the most reliable source of that critical labor we need.”

But most of all, Nicholson values his employees who help grow businesses surrounding the agricultural industry through operations and sales; local tractor, chemical and packaging companies, among other commercial enterprises.

“We create a lot of jobs and we can only do that because of that key workforce that really isn’t available anymore domestically,” Nicholson continued.

After attending Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and graduating with a bachelor’s of science in pomology in 1994, Nicholson went to work in Washington D.C., focusing on agriculture policy.

Nicholson served as the industry information manager for the U.S. Apple Association as well as a marketing specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service.

Throughout a 20-year career, he has devoted his life to agricultural issues and the continuing challenge for supplying labor. Currently, Nicholson serves as the chairman of U.S. Apple Association’s board of directors.

But even after visiting the offices of public servants to share their stories from an expert’s insights, positions in favor positive policy change have not progressed, but further entrenched a hotly-contested debate between agriculture and immigration.

Amid the climate of Trump’s discursive discussions between documented and undocumented migrants, Nicholson said that this conversation is “getting tied up in complicated and political discussions on immigration.”

When asked as to whether or not the conversation surrounding the agricultural migrant industry has advanced, Nicholson concluded, “It hasn’t gotten any better, its only gotten worse.”

Trump thinks windmills cause cancer, Nambia is an island, covfefe is a thing & vaccines cause autism. He can't pronounce "anonymous" or "origins". He forgets that he used to be "pro-choice."

But no, he doesn't have dementia -- just another disease that causes the exact symptoms.

William Barr Seems to Be Covering Up Something Bad for Trump

Jonathan Chait 19 hrs ago

Last evening, the Wall Street Journal editorialized that reporters and House Democrats were smearing Attorney General William Barr by implying that his summary of the Mueller report was anything other than completely faithful and representative. The Journal sneered at “the impression, abetted by a press corps that was fully invested in the collusion story, that Mr. Barr is somehow lying about Mr. Mueller’s real conclusions.” This was “preposterous,” the editorial explained, because Barr “surely understood on releasing the summary of conclusions last week that he would be open to contradiction by Mr. Mueller if he took such liberties.”

The editorial was published at 7:24 p.m. Minutes before, and probably too late to make any alterations, the New York Times broke the news that Barr was in fact contradicted. How could anybody think Barr would be stupid enough to lie when Mueller could expose him, asks the Journal, at almost literally the precise moment when Mueller’s team exposes Barr for lying.

The Times reports that Mueller’s famously leak-free team was moved to break its silence by Barr’s slanted summary of its work. The news from the Times, as well as the follow-up report from the Washington Post, conveys very little information about the substance of the report. There’s no reason to doubt Barr’s conclusion that Mueller was unable to establish a criminal conspiracy between Donald Trump and the Russian government. Whether the unflattering information in the report contains evidence of noncriminal misconduct with Russia — remember, collusion is not a crime — or centers entirely around obstruction of justice remains to be seen.

It does seem clear, though, that Barr has not been dealing from the top of the deck. More evidence of his bad faith can be found in his putative reason for abridging Mueller’s conclusions. The special counsel’s report provided summaries of its work. The Times, apparently relying on Justice Department sources, reports that Mueller’s summaries could not be published, because they “contain sensitive information, like classified material, secret grand-jury testimony and information related to current federal investigations that must remain confidential, according to two government officials.”

But the special counsel flatly contradicts this in its leak to the Post. The summaries, says a special counsel source, were deliberately written “so that the front matter from each section could have been released immediately — or very quickly … It was done in a way that minimum redactions, if any, would have been necessary, and the work would have spoken for itself.”

(Fordham law professor Jed Shugerman spotted this contradiction.) It’s possible, of course, the Justice Department is right and the special counsel is wrong. But it seems far more likely that Barr has, at minimum, spun the report in the most favorable way, in order to create the impression that it has cleared Trump. This has enabled the president and his defenders to spike the football, and present any efforts to examine the actual report as sore losers demanding to play overtime after the game has been decided.

Republican messaging in recent days has made it blindingly obvious the Mueller report is not a document Trump fans would enjoy reading around the fireplace. Republicans have gone from supporting its full release — which House Republicans supported last week in a unanimous vote — to cautioning against it as a distraction. Representative Devin Nunes, who has largely directed Trump’s defense in Congress and the right-wing media, appeared on Fox News last night and introduced a new term: “Mueller dossier.”

“Dossier” is the term used to (accurately) describe the reports collected by British agent Christopher Steele. Steele’s work actually was a dossier: a collection of tips and leads from sources he had some reason to credit, but not all of which would pan out. It was not a finished intelligence product.

Mueller’s report is not a dossier. It is in fact held to a higher standard of proof than an intelligence product. As prosecutors, Mueller’s team needed to establish findings at a level that could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Nunes nonetheless used the term “dossier” three times in the span of a minute to describe Mueller’s conclusion. He is obviously priming the Trump fan base to disregard adverse

We know Russians interfered in our elections. We know Trump has refused to employ safeguards to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We know Barr has refused to release Mueller’s report addressing the interference & obstruction. We can see Trump & Barr are subverting our democracy.
