“By slipping it into our food without our knowledge, without any indication that there
are genetically modified organisms in our food, we are now unwittingly part of
a massive experiment.”
Geneticist David Suzuki (Humans “are part of a massive experiment.”)

“*Please don’t be a smartypants and say, “Hey, all crops are genetically modified”.
Yes, yes, we have been selectively breeding plants for thousands of years. We all know that.
But the term “GMOs” refers to the recent development of “gene splicing” and the
development of transgenic crops, creating forms of life that nature, or selective
breeding, could never have created.

Toxic Truth: New Evidence for Banning Monsanto's Roundup Weedkiller

As reported this week in the Guardian, new tests show that when Roundup’s key active ingredient, glyphosate, is combined with other chemicals to create the final product, the herbicide is more toxic to human cells than glyphosate alone.

“We don’t know what the formulation is,” Devito told the Guardian.” That is confidential business information.” According to the Guardian, for testing purposes, scientists sourced some samples from store shelves, picking up products the EPA told them were the top sellers, he said.

Adjuvants in pesticides are generally declared as inerts, and for this reason they are not tested in long-term regulatory experiments. It is thus very surprising that they amplify up to 1000 times the toxicity of their AP [active ingredient] in 100% of the cases where they are indicated to be present by the manufacturer.”

Judge Rules Non-Profits Can Sue Monsanto for Misleading Labeling of Popular Herbicide Roundup

Jay Feldman, executive director of Beyond Pesticides, the lead plaintiff in the case, said:

“In the face of EPA’s poor regulation of pesticides, misleading pesticide product labeling cannot be left unchecked. The court’s decision to allow our case to move forward, in denying Monsanto’s motion to dismiss, is critical to showing that the company is deceiving the public with a safety claim on its Roundup (glyphosate) label. Its advertising and labeling claim that Roundup ‘targets an enzyme found in plants but not in people or pets’ is false, given the devastating harm that glyphosate has on beneficial bacteria in the gut biome. The disruption of the gut biome is associated with a host of 21st century diseases, including asthma, autism, bacterial vaginosis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, Crohn’s disease, depression, inflammatory bowel disease, leaky gut syndrome, multiple sclerosis, obesity, Type 1 and 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s.

“The science on the hazards of Roundup (glyphosate) are clear and Monsanto officials know it. With this case, we seek to ensure that the public is not misled by false advertising and product labeling in the marketplace. It is a critical step toward ensuring that people are fully informed before purchasing toxic products that can poison them, their families, and the communities where they live.”

OCA International Director, Ronnie Cummins said:

“Monsanto aggressively markets Roundup as ‘safe’ for humans and animals, despite newer studies indicating that glyphosate may be carcinogenic and its use may affect human and animal cardiovascular, endocrine, nervous and reproductive systems. No reasonable consumer seeing the claim on this product that glyphosate targets an enzyme not found ‘in people or pets’ would expect that Roundup actually targets an important bacterial enzyme found in humans and animals, affecting the health of their immune system.

“Survey after survey shows that consumers rely on labels to guide their purchases and keep them and their families safe. When corporations mislead on the issue of a product’s effect on consumers and their families, they put everyone, but especially young children—in this case, playing in yards and parks—at risk, leaving the public no other recourse than to use the legal system to seek the removal of this misleading information.”

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, ruled that OCA and BP presented enough evidence to support that Monsanto’s labeling of its flagship weedkiller, Roundup, misleads consumers.

Judge Rules on Misleading Roundup Label Lawsuit

“This is a very important court ruling that brings a crucial issue into focus; We need to know much more about what glyphosate and other ubiquitous chemicals are doing to our gut microbiome, which according to research is the key to our health and happiness. We know far too little about glyphosate and that will only be changed if comprehensive independent science is supported globally,” says Henry Rowlands, director of The Detox Project.

GMO Free USA: “When you thought it couldn't get worse... Scott Pruitt's EPA is considering Syngenta's proposal to spray their neonicotinoid-class, bee-killing pesticide, thiamethoxam, on the most widely grown crops in the U.S. The application, if approved, would allow the highly toxic pesticide to be sprayed directly on 165 million acres of wheat, barley, corn, sorghum, alfalfa, rice and potato. Syngenta gets richer, our bees die, more neurotoxins in our food and... you can guess the rest.”

EPA Considers Allowing Bee-Killing Pesticide to Be Sprayed on 165 Million Acres of U.S. Farmland

"If the EPA grants Syngenta's wish, it will spur catastrophic declines of aquatic invertebrates and pollinator populations that are already in serious trouble," said Lori Ann Burd, director of the Center for Biological Diversity's environmental health program. "You know the pesticide-approval process is broken when the EPA announces it will consider expanding the use of this dangerous pesticide on the same day its own scientists reveal that the chemical kills birds and aquatic invertebrates."

The Cornucopia Institute

is a nonprofit organization engaged in research and educational activities supporting the ecological principles and economic wisdom underlying sustainable and organic agriculture. Through research and investigations on agricultural and food issues, The Cornucopia Institute provides needed information to family farmers, consumers, stakeholders involved in the good food movement, and the media.

USDA Rejects Organic Checkoff Proposal

“We are delighted that this poorly thought out proposal was rejected by the USDA,” said Will Fantle of The Cornucopia Institute, a farm policy organization and organic industry watchdog. “This is a win for organic farmers and their allies,” Fantle added.

Expert Advisory Panel Addresses Imports Fraud and Biodiversity Conservation

Prior to the meeting, the Real Organic Project released their provisional standards, planned to be implemented on roughly 50 “pilot” farms this summer. Dixon noted that this particular add-on label is farmer-driven and an attempt to guide consumers to organic products that come from farms using soil- and pasture-based production. The label effort came after the USDA ignored the requirement for soil in the organic regulations by allowing hydroponic production to be certified.

Hydroponic Producer Calls Soil “Inert,” Soil Farmers Know Better

Cornucopia’s Take: Hydroponic growers in the interview below claim that soil is just another “inert” medium. Real organic farmers know better. Soil is teeming with microbiological activity, fungus, and other tiny life forms that exist in beautiful symbiosis with plants. Real organic farmers care for the biodiversity around them, grow humus, and build soil fertility to trap carbon and water in the earth. Plants grown in soil receive micronutrients that cannot be replaced by liquid fertilizer in water. Cornucopia’s Mark Kastel explains that the organic certification of hydroponic produce is not just confusing for consumers, it is against the law that created organic certification in the first place.

Unreleased FDA Testing Reveals Glyphosate in Common Household Foods

Cornucopia’s Take: As glyphosate is sprayed on corn, soy, wheat, and oat crops in rising amounts, it is finding its way into cereals, crackers, and many other products on grocery store shelves. Unfortunately, the FDA is under no obligation to share their full findings with public, unless the public files a freedom of information request, as The Guardian has done. The FDA official report will be released in late 2018 or early 2019. Glyphosate is not allowed in organic agriculture, although its ubiquitous use in conventional and GMO agriculture has caused widespread contamination of soil and water.

GE Salmon Caught, Temporarily, in a Net of Regulation

Cornucopia’s Take: Genetically engineered (GE) salmon by AquaBounty have yet to hit U.S. markets, in part because the FDA has yet to come out with their GE labeling law. Funding behind the GE salmon appears to be nearly infinite, and AquaBounty is determined to wait out legislators and policies. While it is likely that these fish will make it to U.S. markets at some point, many retailers have already stated they will not carry the controversial fish, and modern salmon breeding has already produced fish that mature as quickly as the AqaBounty fish. We will continue to monitor this story as it unfolds.

Moms: “I have mixed feeling about this- CEO of Monsanto stepping down. On one hand, I am totally thrilled- I don't have to see him at Monsanto shareholder meetings anymore, extolling the virtues of GMOs and glyphosate. I feel good about that. On the other hand, he is not going to JAIL and the Bayer/Monsanto company is just getting bigger. The German company will own 60% of the world's food seeds and 70% of cotton seeds. That is not only scary, it is stupid. We gotta keep raising awareness folks, even when it feels we are going upstream, that's the time to be the strongest.”

Moms: “Congressman Lieu actually cares about toxins in our food and our health crisis. What about your Representative?”

Lieu: “Last year I asked the @TheJusticeDept to investigate allegations the @EPA was covering up the dangers of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the weed killer RoundUp manufactured by Monsanto.

New info suggests this toxic chemical is now found in common food items. Unacceptable.”

Tell Congress: Pass the Local FARMS Act!

Either way, consumers are buying more local food, as are restaurants, schools and other institutions. And yet, our $90 billion Farm Bill is written largely to favor the corporations that produce factory farm meat and highly processed GMO junk foods—it does little to help build markets and infrastructure designed to support your local independent farmer.

The Local Food and Regional Market Supply (Local FARMS) Act aims to change that.

The bill, introduced by Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Representatives Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb), and Sean Maloney (D-N.Y.), would support the continued expansion of new market opportunities for American family farmers by:

• Helping farmers reach new markets through outreach, cost-share, and technical assistance programs

• Increasing access to fresh, healthy, local food among low-income groups and communities in need

• Developing new and strengthening existing infrastructure that connects producers to consumers

The Agriculture Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives has already passed their version of the Farm Bill (H.R. 2) and the Local FARMS Act isn’t in it. On the bright side, H.R. 2 may not have the votes to pass the House.

Citizens Regeneration Lobby (CRL)

CRL is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit education and grassroots lobbying organization that builds local, state, regional and national support, among citizens and government officials, for local and regional organic regenerative agriculture and policies.

Monsanto’s Toxic Tricks

Seneff: “New German documentary on the Bayer/Monsanto merger.”

‘Harvest of Greed:’ Provocative New Film Exposes True Dangers of the Monsanto-Bayer Merger For the World to See

Despite the slanted title against the chemical farming industry, the documentary takes both sides of the equation into account, educating viewers on the chemical companies’ viewpoints while also chronicling the widespread troubles, protests and concerns of natural and family farmers worldwide.

It includes interviews with Bayer CEO Werner Baumann and Monsanto CEO Robert Fraley and offers unprecedented access into their facilities, but also tells the complex stories of adversarial farmers, environmental advocates and protesters on the ground through expert storytelling and interview footage.

Many of them face difficult questions as they wrestle with the enormous specter of the two mega-corporations, both of which have been involved not just in the agricultural system but also some of the most egregious wartime horrors of the past century.

Here is the USDA’s proposed label for foods containing genetically engineered ingredients. (This is the alternative to the complex and confusing QR codes that many companies will use because they know consumers won’t scan them.) While terms like “GMO,” “GM,” “GE,” are now widely used by everyone, USDA decides to create a new acronym, “BE.” Is it just to confuse people more?

New Federally Required GMO Labels Won't Say 'GMO'

According to Politico, the USDA’s long-awaited106-page proposal for how companies must disclose the presence of genetically modified ingredients in their products includes eliminating the words “genetically modified” or “genetically engineered” and replacing them with “bioengineered.”

That means no more “GMO”—instead consumers will see “BE” on the environmentally friendly looking green and yellow images.

The images are just as insulting to consumers as the law, which the chemical and junk food industry lobbyists spent $400 million to pass—under the specious name of the “Safe and Affordable Food Labeling Act.”

What causes intestinal inflammation? Glyphosate, gmo foods do.

Fecal markers of intestinal inflammation and intestinal permeability are elevated in Parkinson's disease - February 2018

Fecal markers reflecting intestinal inflammation and increased intestinal permeability have been primarily investigated in inflammatory bowel disease so far. Our data indicate that calprotectin, alpha-1-antitrypsin and zonulin could be useful non-invasive markers in PD as well. Even though these markers are not disease-specific, they corroborate the hypothesis of an intestinal inflammation as contributing factor in the pathogenesis of PD. Further investigations are needed to determine whether calprotectin, alpha-1-antitrypsin and zonulin can be used to define PD subgroups and to monitor the effect of interventions in PD.

Toxic Overload From Within… Metabolic Endotoxemia by Jill Carnaham, M.D.

The Leaky Gut Cycle & LPS

When a person has intestinal permeability or leaky gut syndrome, these LPS can leak through the gastrointestinal wall and into the bloodstream causing serious, bodywide inflammation. This can cause a vicious cycle of declining health that looks like this:

Inflammation of the gut lining leading to leaky gut and…

Poor nutrient absorption (especially vitamin B12, magnesium, and iron), which then causes…
A strong immune system response to the offending particles, which causes…
Gastrointestinal issues including food intolerances, celiac disease and eventually leading to various autoimmune diseases.

And autoimmune disease may cause inflammation of the gut lining, which starts this cycle over again. Within this cycle, LPS is pouring from the gut lumen into the bloodstream, causing inflammation, and exacerbating every step along the way.

Welcome to our oasis of information. Thanks to having so many unique and well informed friends, it has been a lifetime of learning on many fronts. Much of the truth I’ve found to be contrary to “mainstream”, and I am taking this uncensored medium to give, at any one point in time, my best appraisal of the most useful “take” on each topic.

For a devoted scientist, expertise is time-dependent. I have written that a scientist is one who is glad to being shown wrong. We will see how we hold up.

Elemental Impacts - POISON OR MEDICINE? Marty Michener, Ph.D.

(Mercury, aluminum, glyphosate, florine, beryllium, chromium, aresenic, lead)

In our own culture’s twisted logic, many popular medical procedures have been shown over time to be categorically unsafe at all levels, despite doctors having been taught to apply them widely. In fact, today’s physicians are often only advised by the procedure sales representative technicians, motivated by high product acceptance. Thus doctors recite to their patients only the favorable facts, leaving out the side-effects they may not know about. This the news media would have us believe is “science-based medicine.”

The FDA has reduced the use of thimerosal in vaccines, but is publicly still defending the safety of Thimerosal’s use in all vaccines. So much for science-based medicine, replaced by bought-out-politician-based medicine.

The good news is that removing amalgam fillings, and ensuring sufficient dietary sulfur and selenium helps prevent mercury accumulations and it slowly eliminates the stored burden.

Dr. Seneff and colleagues report aluminum concentrating in the pineal glands, where it debilitates the process of transferring sulfate from cholesterol sulfate and heparan sulfate to the essential factor in brain maintenance: melatonin sulfate.

Aluminum gains entry to mitochondria as a mimic of calcium. It also gains entry chelated by glyphosate, now commonly found in many foods. High aluminum is found in the pineal gland during autopsies of Alzheimer’s and autistic bodies. Nanoparticle aluminum has been found highly destructive; it causes cells to self-destruct.

Summary: All the evidence points to glyphosate herbicide making aluminum more destructive. Ecological balance requires as much prevention of ingesting these synergistic xenotoxins as possible.

Curb Your Confusion - The Myth of Natural Foods

Through our Myth of Natural Campaign, we directly confront food companies—sometimes using consumer protection laws like those in Washington, D.C. and California as the basis for lawsuits—for labeling or marketing products as “natural” when independent lab testing shows the products to be contaminated with pesticides, antibiotics and other drugs, and “unnatural” ingredients.

Examples include: Nature Valley Granola Bars, which tested positive for glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup® weed killer; Post Shredded Wheat, which tested positive for glyphosate (the suit has been settled); Sioux Honey, which tested positive for glyphosate; Sanderson Farms chicken which tested positive for a long list of drugs, hormones, pesticides and other contaminants; and Bigelow Tea, which tested positive for glyphosate.

OCA’s Myth of Natural Campaign also addresses other labeling and marketing claims, many of which imply that products were produced using “natural,” “sustainable” or “socially responsible” methods of production.

The Myth of Natural Campaign also takes on corporations like Ben & Jerry’s and Bigelow that claim to be “socially responsible” and “environmentally friendly” despite the presence of pesticides in their products and the use of toxic chemicals or unfair labor practices in their supply chains.

Now in 2016, alarm bells are ringing and in California alone, the problem has become incredibly severe:

“The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that the U.S. Forest Service has identified an additional 36 million dead trees across California since its last aerial survey in May 2016. This brings the total number of dead trees since 2010 to over 102 million on 7.7 million acres of California’s drought stricken forests. In 2016 alone, 62 million trees have died, representing more than a 100 percent increase in dead trees across the state from 2015. Millions of additional trees are weakened and expected to die in the coming months and years.”

“Life is being killed off, you can see it in the trees.”

I can’t find the actual published paper, but check out the second article on tea and glyphosate...

Tea records highest concentration of Glyphosate: US research

According to the paper, Glyphosate is the most widely applied herbicide in the world to eliminate broadleaf weeds and grasses that compete with crops. The paper said the highest concentration was found in four specific sample sources. They are tea bag, tea leaves, coffee power and honey.

“We observed elevated urinary glyphosate levels in participants who drank tea,” the paper said.

When Corporations Play 'Monopoly,' Consumers Lose

I have been told that sharing this information is useless because “people don’t care,”
or the concepts are above their understanding. If you were told that individuals who
are selling you things, and/or governments were using (or testing out) chemicals on you,
that will make you ill and disabled, you would be horrified. If I were to tell you that
your family and children are being poisoned, you would react and protect them. This is
exactly what I am telling you. Now, we have 5G technology which has been shown in many
studies to be profoundly harmful and, essentially, a slow suicide/homicide method.
If you honestly “Don’t Care,” do nothing. If you do care about yourself, your children,
and those you love, take action.

Monsanto in Epic Fail with attempted attack on Global Glyphosate Study

The peer-reviewed accepted manuscripts from the pilot phase of the Global Glyphosate Study were revealed last Wednesday in a Press Conference at the European Parliament.

The results of the short-term pilot study showed that glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) were able to alter certain important biological parameters in rats, mainly relating to sexual development, genotoxicity and the alteration of the intestinal microbiome, at the ‘safe’ level of 1.75 mg/kg/day set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

As is normal practice for Monsanto, their Public Relations department was soon in action to try and crush the scientists involved and the study results, which could cause major damage to the product that supports their whole business model – the glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup.

However, this time their PR campaign against the Study was only met with contempt and disdain from journalists, politicians, and the public in countries across Europe.

Monsanto’s epic fail began with their comments in The Guardian newspaper:

The truth is that Monsanto has never been faced with an independent study on glyphosate and glyphosate-based herbicides, in which multiple Institutions and Universities are involved. They are used to attacking one single scientist or a small institution.

The Global Glyphosate Study involves The Ramazzini Institute, the University of Bologna (Faculty of Agriculture, Veterinary Science and Biostatistics) the Genoa Hospital San Martino, the Italian National Institute of Health, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and the George Washington University.

OFFICIAL TRAILER 2018: Genetically Modified Children, Coming June 5.

Can Monsanto chemicals permanently alter your child’s genes? Low-income tobacco farmers face skyrocketing cancer rates with more devastating repercussions affecting their children: severe physical deformities and mental disabilities. Choosing between poverty or poison, Latin American growers have no choice but to use harmful chemicals such as the herbicide glyphosate (aka Monsanto’s Roundup) and Bayer’s insecticide Confidor if they want to certify and sell their crops to Big Tobacco. As patent and regulatory laws continue to favor the profits of Monsanto and chemical companies, the tobacco makes its way into the hands and mouths of consumers worldwide in Philip Morris products, while the poisons used to harvest the crops contaminate the farmers’ blood and are modifying the human genome, creating genetically modified children.

GMOs, Glyphosate & Gut Health - Zack Bush, M.D. interview

This is a mind-blowing conversation that explores new insights into the mechanisms behind human health and longevity. It's about the massive and misunderstood impact of industrial farming, chemical pesticides, the pharmaceutical industry and even errant Western medical practices have on both human and planetary health.

Living Rivers Council submits expert comments on glyphosate and its ‘inert’ substances in formulation to the EPA

U.S. EPA (2017a) found that oral and inter-tracheal administration of glyphosate to rats caused only mild lung hemorrhages and epithelial damage, but rats died immediately or after several days when given POEA (p 96 of 204). Therefore, U.S. EPA knows that POEA is not inert and instead is highly toxic and yet it fails to monitor this substance.

Defarge et al. (2018) found major problems with heavy metal pollution in glyphosate-based herbicide formulations:

“We measured in the formulations other contaminants such as, among others, the heavy metals arsenic (As), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and lead (Pb), which are known to be toxic and endocrine disruptors. Eleven formulations were assessed, as well as 11 other pesticide formulations as comparators. Formulations from both groups were comparably and heavily contaminated (Fig. 5) with the heavy metal As, present in almost all samples. In total, all except 3 formulations had 5–53 times the permitted level of As in water in European Union or USA; all except 1 had Cr above (up to 40 times) the permitted level; all except 1 contained Ni, with 19 samples being above the permitted level (up to 62 times); 6 contained up to 11 times the permitted level of Pb.”

This is extremely alarming and shows major negligence of the U.S. EPA in regulating Roundup and other glyphosate-based herbicides, if the findings of Defarge et al. (2018) are representative. If they are, the consequences for human and environmental health are far-reaching. The permitting of Roundup and other similar products should be withdrawn from the market, at least until heavy metal pollution issues are resolved.

Saunders and Pezeshki (2015) had the following findings: “(1) glyphosate often runs off of fields where it is applied; (2) glyphosate can be translocated by plant roots; and (3) glyphosate can affect plant functioning in non-target plants.” Roots of plants killed is another pathway into the soil for glyphosate, AMPA and POEA. Glyphosate may and AMPA may remain for up to 196 days in clay soils with unknown biological impact as noted by Scribner et al. (2003). Scribner et al. (2003) not only found surface water runoff with glyphosate-based herbicides, but also found them in isolated ponds where aerosol drift carried them. Furthermore, Scribner et al. (2003) actually measured glyphosate and AMPA in rainfall in Mid-western states. A U.S. Geological Survey (USGS 2008) found substantial amounts of glyphosate in runoff in a Clackamas River tributary after forest herbicide application.

The Impossible Burger: Boon or risk to health and environment?

Impossible Foods is pitching its product on the basis of claims that it is a healthy and environmentally responsible choice. But a look at the facts gives a different picture.

The Impossible Burger is not made from organically sourced or Non-GMO ingredients, so there are other substances present in this product that in all likelihood are also derived from GM organisms (GMOs) – namely soy protein isolate and a number of vitamins – which we shall return to later in this article. So overall, the Impossible Burger is a GMO food.

Scott Pruitt’s rollbacks on the coal rules are going to allow tremendous amounts of mercury into America’s waters. If you put a molecule of mercury [into our water] and it gets into a fish and into a pregnant mother or a child who eats that fish, and that mercury gets into a baby’s brain, it can cause inflammation, a loss of IQ, or endocrinology disruption like PFOAs [cause]. Mercury can injure sexual development, IQ, and learning capacity, so when that little girl gets to be seven years old and she can’t read a book quite as well as her classmates and can’t solve a math problem, when God gave her the brain to solve that and the coal company took it away from her, that’s a crime. And it’s about as bad as any crime you can commit.

Democracy and the environment are intertwined. Anywhere you see large environmental violations you’re going to see the subversion of democracy. You’ll see the disappearance of transparency, corruption of public officials, capture of agencies by industries, and the erosion of public rights to comment and participate on decisions that dictate the destinies of their communities. We’ve already had losses that we will never recover. We want to preserve as much as we can for our kids. Environmentalism isn’t about protecting the fishes and birds for their own sake. It’s about recognizing that nature is the infrastructure of our communities.

In 1962, it was a lack of environmental policy that poisoned our water, workers, and wildlife. In 2018, it may be these misguided policy choices.

New Farm Bill Increases Pesticides On Organic Food – Take Action

The current draft of the Farm Bill also eliminates all funding for the organic cost share program, which provides assistance to farmers trying to certify their farms as organic. This strikes us as a terrible allocation of resources. Billions are set aside to subsidize corn, wheat, soy, and other commodity crops that are used to make junk food; by contrast, the 2014 Farm Bill allocated $11.5 million per year for the organic cost share program—money that the House Farm Bill is now proposing to cut. Generally speaking, we don’t like the government picking winners and losers—this should be sorted out by the market. Not only is the government incompetent (recall the confused thinking that permeates the federal government’s dietary guidelines), it is also beholden to special interests. Incompetence and cronyism notwithstanding, if subsidies are going to be given out, it doesn’t make sense to send billions towards food that is making us unhealthy and sick, while eliminating funds for the production of sustainable, clean and healthy food.

The Farm Bill does include some of the provisions that were part of a previous bill that ANH supported which sought to address the issue of fake organics coming into the US from overseas. As we stated at the time, these measures wouldn’t fix all the problems with the organics program, but they are a step in the right direction in getting the government to do its job in ensuring the integrity of our domestic organics program.

Intestinal Disease, Immune Disease and GMOs

According to Dr. Andrew Weil, “Leaky gut syndrome is not generally recognized by conventional physicians, but evidence is accumulating that it is a real condition that affects the lining of the intestines. The theory is that leaky gut syndrome (also called increased intestinal permeability), is the result of damage to the intestinal lining, making it less able to protect the internal environment as well as to filter needed nutrients and other biological substances. As a consequence, some bacteria and their toxins, incompletely digested proteins and fats, and waste not normally absorbed may “leak” out of the intestines into the blood stream. This triggers an autoimmune reaction, which can lead to gastrointestinal problems such as abdominal bloating, excessive gas and cramps, fatigue, food sensitivities, joint pain, skin rashes, and autoimmunity.”

According to Dr. Arpad Pusztai, who was involved in the pioneering research on the Bt potato, “There is no [such thing as] absolute selectivity!” Furthermore, he says that the very process of genetic modification causes unknown and uncontrollable mutations in the plant. There is “no means of directing the gene transfer … You are shooting blindfold … genetic insertion causes mutations … You

can’t say where it [the genetic bit] landed … you don’t know how things were reshuffled.” The plant’s own genes are affected and we don’t really know how. Pusztai calls this, “insertional mutagenesis,” mutation of an organism caused by the insertion of DNA into the organism’s pre-existing DNA.

The intestinal lining of livestock in the U.S. is so poor these days that meat processors import sausage casings from New Zealand. According to Dr. Huber, “When you look at the intestine of those pigs fed the GMO feed, the lining is deteriorated and the critical microbial balance is drastically changed.”

Seneff: “First results on the Ramazzini Institute's study on glyphosate exposure to rats at a dosage that is considered safe according to the United States Acceptable Daily Intake levels. They found significant changes in the distribution of gut microbes in the rat pups, including a reduction in the level of Lactobacillus.”

What Charles Koch and Other Donors to George Mason University Got for Their Money

Following a period of deep cuts in public funding, the documents and related emails raised broad questions about whether universities that rely heavily on private donors can remain free from the influences of contributors who may be pursuing commercial, political or philosophical agendas.

In academia, such influence is viewed as inappropriate, partly because it may pressure professors to produce biased research, undermining the credibility of their work and spreading incorrect information to students. That may be particularly problematic in the interpretation of data and construction of models in areas of economics that affect federal tax policy or regulation.

Seneff: “The Guardian summarizes some of the important findings from the new Ramazzini Institute studies on glyphosate.”

Prof Philip J Landrigan, of New York’s Icahn School of Medicine, and also one of the research team, said: “These early warnings must be further investigated in a comprehensive long-term study.” He added that serious health effects from the chemical might manifest as long-term cancer risk: “That might affect a huge number of people, given the planet-wide use of the glyphosate-based herbicides.”

Seneff: “Farmers are getting sick from the chemicals they're exposed to, and, for some, this becomes the main reason to switch to organic farming.”

These Farmers Switched to Organic After Pesticides Made Their Families Sick

His wife Dolores says the incident led Gus to convert the farm to organic. But other farmers in their area weren’t as fortunate as Gus. “There are a few farmers in our area who have passed on because of chemicals. But that’s not spoken about in farming communities,” she says.

“The concern is the amount of herbicides used in the next five to 10 years is going to constitute the largest increase in U.S. history,” Benbrook says, who also notes that level of herbicide use increase should require action from public health agencies and regulators, but adds there is no effort to study the human health impacts of the chemicals. “This is a public health train wreck that no one has the tools, the motivation, or the ability to turn around. The end game will be very costly.”

Lakeview Organic Grain:

Why Reducing Pesticide Use and Exposure Matters

I remember several times walking home with a growing, sharp itch, bordering on pain, in my back and on my arms. A few times I had a rash. Often, my asthma flared up in the evening. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why — some of the 2,4-D sprayed a few days before had moved with rain into the puddles.

And then ponder the exposures that occurred a few days later, when dozens of families, many with young children, visited the farm, and with great expectations, picked the ripe, juicy berries right off the plants, which, by the handful, then went in their mouths.

Subject: Breaking Research: glyphosate harms microbiome at "safe levels"

Prevent Cancer Now has been highlighting for years that glyphosate can also mobilize toxic metals, so to what extent are the high levels of cadmium in western soils and potash turning up in Canadian grains? Canada has no food standard for cadmium, but Canadian grain has been refused by Europe for excessive levels. Cadmium is carcinogenic, harms the developing child, and is highly toxic to the nervous system, kidneys, liver, bones and other organs.

Timing for transitions was perfect, giving just enough time to absorb the content on a slide. I was mesmerized by the entire experience of watching this. Our discoveries and inventions have always been a source of pride, but we have assumed that there would not be any harm. Aluminum has been used for utensils, cups, and containers, it’s low cost and low weight. Some studies showed dangers while others did not. But when combined with Aluminum, fluoride and glyphosate, it creates a chemical combination which has been shown to be linked with Autism and Alzheimer’s disease. The synergetic effect of combining these three chemicals brgins to explain the inconsistencies in the studies, and points out the profound dangers, that exist when chemicals in our “creations” are combined.

I have been told that sharing this information is useless because “people don’t care,” or the concepts are above their understanding. If you were told that individuals who are selling you things, and/or governments were using (or testing out) chemicals on you, that will make you ill and disabled, you would be horrified. If I were to tell you that your family and children are being poisoned, you would react and protect them. This is exactly what I am telling you. Now, we have 5G technology which has been shown in many studies to be profoundly harmful and, essentially, a slow suicide/homicide method. If you honestly “Don’t Care,” do nothing. If you do care about yourself, your children, and those you love, take action.

Analysis: 490,000 Pounds of Toxic Pesticides Sprayed on National Wildlife Refuges

Pesticide Use on Crops Grown in Refuges Spikes in California, Oregon, Arkansas, Tennessee, Maryland

WASHINGTON— America’s national wildlife refuges are being doused with hundreds of thousands of pounds of dangerous agricultural pesticides every year, according to a first-of-its-kind analysis by the Center for Biological Diversity.

The Center report, No Refuge, reveals that an estimated 490,000 pounds of pesticides were dumped on commodity crops like corn, soybeans and sorghum grown in national wildlife refuges in 2016, the most recent year for which data are available. The analysis was conducted with records obtained by the Center under the Freedom of Information Act.

“These refuges are supposed to be a safe haven for wildlife, but they’re becoming a dumping ground for poisonous pesticides,” said Hannah Connor, a senior attorney at the Center who authored the analysis. “Americans assume these public lands are protected and I think most people would be appalled that so many pesticides are being used to serve private, intensive agricultural operations.”

The pesticides include the highly toxic herbicides dicamba and 2,4-D, which threaten the endangered species and migrating birds that wildlife refuges were created to protect. Refuge pesticide use in 2016 was consistent with pesticide applications on refuges over the previous two years, the Center analysis showed.

Toxic Weed Killer Found in Most Foods Sold in the US

Between 1974 — the year glyphosate entered the U.S. market — and 2014, glyphosate use in the U.S. increased more than 250fold

Few people had detectable levels of glyphosate in their urine in 1993, but by 2016, 70 percent had detectable levels. Between 1993 and 2016, the glyphosate levels in people’s bodies increased by 1,208 percent

While both the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Data Program and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) measure pesticide residues in foods, neither include glyphosate in their official testing

Internal FDA emails reveal Roundup has been found in virtually all foods tested, including granola, oatmeal products, crackers and honey
Independent testing has found significant amounts of glyphosate in a wide range of foods as well, including grains (especially oats), legumes, beans, orange juice, wine and ice cream

How Is Glyphosate Affecting Human Health?
Glyphosate mimics glycine (hence the “gly” in glyphosate), a very common amino acid your body uses to make proteins. As a result, your body can substitute glyphosate for glycine, which results in damaged proteins being produced. According to research published in the journal Entropy in 2013, the main toxic effects of glyphosate are related to the fact that it:8,9

Inhibits the shikimate pathway, found in gut bacteria in both humans and animals
Interferes with the function of cytochrome P450 enzymes, required for activation of vitamin D in the liver, and the creation of both nitric oxide and cholesterol sulfate, the latter of which is needed for red blood cell integrity
Chelates important minerals, including iron, cobalt and manganese. Manganese deficiency, in turn, impairs mitochondrial function and can lead to glutamate toxicity in the brain
Interferes with the synthesis of aromatic amino acids and methionine, which results in shortages in critical neurotransmitters and folate
Disrupts sulfate synthesis and sulfate transport
Glyphosate also disrupts, destroys, impairs or inhibits:10

The microbiome, thanks to its antibiotic activity
Sulfur metabolism
Methylation pathways
Pituitary release of thyroid stimulating hormone, which can lead to hypothyroidism
The chemical has also been linked to certain cancers. In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a research arm of the World Health Organization, reclassified glyphosate as a Class 2A probable carcinogen11 based on "limited evidence" showing the weed killer can cause Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and lung cancer in humans, along with "convincing evidence" linking it to cancer in animals.

Nice article about Moms Across America.

New battalions of Moms rise up to rescue America from an insidious enemy

After WWII, General Dwight Eisenhower said that our nation couldn't have won the global war without the "contribution of the women of America, whether on the farm or in the factory or in uniform." This Memorial Day, it's appropriate to honor a new generation of American women who are counter attacking a global threat that could cripple our nation.

No creature on Earth is as ferocious as a mother defending her young. And we're seeing, in America, this emerging army of women warriors determined to defeat the multiple food-related plagues damaging their children. Moms Across America and other activist groups are showing thousands of mothers and grandmothers how to win against embedded corporate/government powers with the most effective weapon: Truth. In 1770, future American president John Adams famously said, "Facts are stubborn things." Stubborn too are Moms determined to heal their kids from chronic rashes and digestive pain and allergies which lead to endless rounds of medications, which spiral down into unpredictable emotional behavior and more drugs.

The Moms crusade triggered other efforts to measure glyphosate residue in our foods. Although corporate trolls sometimes sneer at these women as "blogger mommys," Moms Across America has launched effective campaigns. When EPA ignored the Moms' request for a meeting, Zen launched an e-mail to Moms. They clogged the EPA's phones until a top official begged, "call them off." The agency offered an open, face-to face meeting with group members. The Moms website constantly alerts millions of mothers of adverse regulatory moves, like USDA's camouflage of GMO food labels.

RFK, Jr.: “This fact sheet describes the contents of Monsanto’s confidential public relations plan to discredit the World Health Organization’s cancer research unit, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, in order to protect the reputation of Roundup weedkiller.”

Monsanto Relied on These “Partners” to Attack Top Cancer Scientists

This fact sheet describes the contents of Monsanto’s confidential public relations plan to discredit the World Health Organization’s cancer research unit, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), in order to protect the reputation of Roundup weedkiller. In March 2015, the international group of experts on the IARC panel judged glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup, to be probably carcinogenic to humans.

The Monsanto plan names more than a dozen “industry partner” groups that company executives planned to “inform / inoculate / engage” in their efforts to protect the reputation of Roundup, prevent the “unfounded” cancer claims from becoming popular opinion, and “provide cover for regulatory agencies.” Partners included academics as well as chemical and food industry front groups, trade groups and lobby groups — follow the links below to fact sheets that provide more information about the partner groups.

Together these fact sheets provide a sense of the depth and breadth of the corporate attack on the IARC cancer experts in defense of Monsanto’s top-selling herbicide.

Page 5 of the Monsanto document identifies four tiers of “industry partners” that Monsanto executives planned to engage in its IARC preparedness plan. These groups together have a broad reach and influence in pushing a narrative about cancer risk that protects corporate profits.

Documents later reported by The New York Times reveal that Sachs emailed Miller a week before the IARC glyphosate report to ask if Miller was interested in writing about the “controversial decision.” Miller responded, “I would if I could start with a high-quality draft.” On March 23, Miller posted an article on Forbes that “largely mirrored” the draft provided by Monsanto, according to the Times. Forbes severed its relationship with Miller in the wake of the ghostwriting scandal and deleted his articles from the site.

Weedkiller products more toxic than their active ingredient, tests show

After more than 40 years of widespread use, new scientific tests show formulated weedkillers have higher rates of toxicity to human cells

It is not clear how much Monsanto itself knows about the toxicity of the full formulations it sells. But internal company emails dating back 16 years, which emerged in a court case last year, offer a glimpse into the company’s view. In one 2003 internal company email, a Monsanto scientist stated: “You cannot say that Roundup is not a carcinogen … we have not done the necessary testing on the formulation to make that statement. The testing on the formulations are not anywhere near the level of the active ingredient.” Another internal email, written in 2010, said: “With regards to the carcinogenicity of our formulations we don’t have such testing on them directly.” And an internal Monsanto email from 2002 stated: “Glyphosate is OK but the formulated product … does the damage.”

Seneff: “This is very demoralizing. Let's just mix other toxic chemicals into the glyphosate formulation because two herbicides together are synergistically toxic to the weeds. And, of course, also synergistically toxic to us.”

Moreover, the program will address the controversial issue of GMOs in school food. As environmental news outlet EcoWatch reports:

Glyphosate — the deadly weedicide

He refers to the observations of Stephanie Seneff, Senior Research Scientist at MIT, who has said, “It is destructive of human health and it is threatening the extinction of multiple species. I believe it will eventually be proven that glyphosate gets into proteins by mistake in place of glycine.” This has been linked to the epidemic in auto-immune diseases, “most importantly autism and dementia”.

Says Mitra: “People need to force their Governments at all levels to start testing food for glyphosate and to reject foods that have it.”

Long before Scott Pruitt, EPA colluded with industry by Jonathan Latham

The EPA has long bent to the desires of industry, persecuted whistleblowers, and buried their own research.

Aimed at Oregon forest weeds, these aerial sprayings instead killed her animals and sickened her children. So, Van Strum and her husband embarked on a decades-long investigation to uncover who knew what about Agent Orange, and when they knew it. Their inquiry eventually broadened beyond Agent Orange and they ultimately amassed two and a half tons of eye-opening internal documents from the Agency and other sources. Collectively, the Poison Papers constitute an alarming portrait. Virtually from its inception in 1970, the EPA has proactively overridden scientific evidence and sacrificed public safety for the benefit of the chemical industry.

Our ABC agencies said Glyphosate, GMO foods and vaccines were safe. We have to ask whose science are they counting on. Industries?

Glyphosate Causes Changes to DNA Function Resulting in Chronic Disease, According to Study - 2016

The article cites a number of ways that this affects humans and other organisms. According to the study, the consequences of this action can lead to impaired fatty acid release leading to obesity, impaired insulin receptor response leading to diabetes, impaired one-carbon metabolism leading to neural tube defects and autism, impaired cell cycle control during DNA synthesis, and disregulated phosphorylation cascades leading to cancer, lung disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

Stephen Frantz, Ph.D., a pathobiologist research scientist explains it like this: “When a cell is trying to form proteins, it may grab glyphosate instead of glycine to form a damaged, mis-folded protein. After that it’s medical chaos. Where glyphosate replaces glycine, the cell can no longer conduct business as usual causing unpredicted consequences with many diseases and disorders as a result.”

GMO Golden Rice Offers No Nutritional Benefits Says FDA by Allison Wilson, PhD and Jonathan Latham, PhD

The biotech industry and its supporters have promoted GMO Golden Rice for decades as an urgently needed solution to vitamin A deficiency.

But, in a surprising twist, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has concluded its consultation process on Golden Rice by informing its current developers, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), that Golden Rice does not meet the nutritional requirements to make a health claim.

Golden Rice refers to GMO rice plants modified to produce beta-carotene (also called provitamin A) in their grain. This latest version of Golden Rice contains three added genes. Unstoppable: Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment and a Celebration of Community

Author Zen Honeycutt, Founder of Moms Across America

Seneff: “This book is arguably the best book available today on the topic of toxic foods and their effects on human health. Zen Honeycutt was "just" a young mother trying to bring up her three sons as best she could, in the context of an onslaught of toxic chemicals in their environment causing a long list of health issues for her kids - food allergies, eczema, emergency visits to the hospital, Epi-pens, an autism diagnosis, etc., led her down a path with a quest for understanding why it was so much more difficult for her to raise her kids than it had been in her mother's generation. Once she began to find answers, she knew that she needed to do everything she could to help get the message out to other parents who were struggling in similar ways. She zeroed in on genetically modified foods, and, more specifically, glyphosate, the active ingredient in the pervasive herbicide Roundup, as key factors in her children's health crisis. Switching the family to an organic diet made many of the problems, including the autism diagnosis, magically disappear.

What is truly noble about Zen is her realization that she needed to do much more than just keep her own family healthy. She needed to become an advocate for healthy food and try every way possible to get the message out to a larger audience. She did everything she could to encourage others to get involved and help in disseminating the information about the toxicity of the food to a wider and wider audience. She founded the organization "Moms Across America" to help with advocacy and messaging. She directly confronted the US government and Monsanto corporation, she participated in the Monsanto tribunal in Belgium, and she initiated studies to test for glyphosate contamination in human breast milk, vaccines and California wines, finding it everywhere she looked.

The book is written in highly accessible prose, and it unfolds with a story line of Zen's own journey of personal awakening. It is very entertaining and absorbing, and even gripping at times, the kind of book that you can't put down. Despite the ominous message she delivers, she maintains a sense of optimism throughout, and a belief that the American citizenry can solve the problem through grass roots bottom-up strategies in local communities across the country. Zen is fond of quoting Lily Tomlin who said, "Somebody ought to do something about that. Wait a minute, I am somebody!" Zen is truly an embodiment of that message. We are all "somebody," and Zen's book will inspire anybody who reads it to find a way that their special talents can contribute to helping to solve this enormous crisis that our country currently faces. If we don't all pitch in and do our part, the future of this country is in jeopardy.

Please, buy this book, read it, and pass it on to your friends and family!”

Huber: “Future historians may well look back upon our time and write, not about how many pounds of pesticide we did or did not apply, but about how willing we are to sacrifice our children and jeopardize future generations with this massive experiment we call genetic engineering that is based on flawed science and failed promises just to benefit the bottom line of a commercial enterprise. In her book ‘UNSTOPPABLE,’ Zen Honeycutt has masterfully parlayed the tragedy experienced from our diverted production of healthy food through the corruption of our agricultural system with genetic engineering to show how to rise above its damaging effects. She connects the dots between the modern changes in what we eat, the ubiquitous chemical contamination of our environment, and our well-being. She has initiated an UNSTOPPABLE movement that supports this essential process of restoring health and provides the encouragement and support for each individual to become a vital part of this correction. Her personal reflections and tidbits of encouragement throughout the book show how it can be done at all levels of society from the individual, family, community, nation and world. As a reader you will want to join in to promote health and well-being at all levels.”

Here's why you DON'T want fries with that…

Antibiotics in Meat Could Be Damaging Our Guts

The F.D.A. banned the use of antibiotics for growth promotion in animals last year. One organic cattle farmer is sure the ban is being flouted.

Despite the ban, Mr. Lewis is convinced that some ranchers continue to use antibiotics for growth purposes — a claim that is difficult to document. But experts agree that the F.D.A. rules have a “giant loophole” that allows farmers to continue to use antibiotics to prevent diseases even if animals aren’t showing symptoms.

“You don’t even need a sick animal in the herd to use antibiotics in the feed and water as long as the justification is ‘disease prevention’ not ‘growth promotion,’ ” Avinash Kar, a senior attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council, told me.

Veterinarians working for certain feedlots — industrial-style farms where chickens, pigs and cattle are fattened — seem more than happy to continue writing prescriptions for antibiotics that end up in livestock feed. “They’ve got their veterinarians on retainer,” Mike Callicrate, a cattle rancher in Kansas and Colorado, told me. “They tell them what they want, and the veterinarian darn well provides what they want.”

Glyphosate is everywhere. Round up is still the best seller in our North American industrialized agricultural practices. Canada is the biggest user of glyphosate for drying grain and legume crops and there is no way of washing it out of our food. So once it gets into our bodies, what can we do? In this interview, Dr. Stephanie Seneff gives us more information and great guidance.

Trees: If it does this to trees, just imagine what it may be doing inside of our bodies

Forest Service to cut hundreds of ponderosa pines near Sisters killed by herbicide

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking public comment on a plan to remove the trees, along an approximately 12-mile segment of the highway near Sisters. Forestry officials believe the trees were killed by an unhealthy dose of Perspective, the brand name of a herbicide used in the area for several years.

The herbicide, administered by contractors working for the Oregon Department of Transportation, was intended to kill the broad-leaf weeds and other flammable plants, but also killed more than 1,000 trees — the majority of which are ponderosas — in the surrounding area.

Pesticide Created By Bayer Accidentally Kills Off Twelve-Mile Stretch of Trees in Oregon

Most people know the Bayer corporation because of its medications, including prescription drugs and over-the-counter staples like Bayer aspirin.

But Bayer’s agricultural, GMO and pesticide divisions are not nearly as well known, similar to the sordid history of the company itself, which has roots as a chemical and explosive manufacturing arm of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi war machine. It all started in 1925, when Bayer became part of the IG Farben corporation in Germany, and continued throughout World War II.

Once the war ended, toxic pesticides produced by companies like Bayer and Monsanto were adopted for use in the agricultural sector, and since then have found applications in both neighborhoods and the natural world for plant control and management.

Thought Monsanto was bad, read this.

GM Watch: “How a chemical and pharmaceutical giant with an appalling record of corporate crimes became a key player in the development, commercialization, and sale of GM crops

Today Monsanto merges into Bayer and the Monsanto name will be dropped because of the company's toxic reputation. But if anything, Bayer's corporate record is even worse.”

Bayer: A history

GMWatch, February 1, 2009

How a chemical and pharmaceutical giant with an appalling record of corporate crimes became a key player in the development, commercialization, and sale of GM crops

Bayer AG is a chemical and pharmaceutical giant founded in Barmen, Germany in 1863 by Friedrich Bayer and his partner, Johann Friedrich Weskott. Today it has its headquarters in Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It trademarked acetylsalicylic acid as aspirin in 1899. It also trademarked heroin a year earlier, then marketed it world-wide for decades as a cough medicine for children "without side-effects", despite the well known dangers of addiction.

During the First World War, Bayer turned its attention to the manufacture of chemical weapons including chlorine gas, which was used to horrendous effect in the trenches. It also built up a "School for Chemical Warfare". During this time Bayer formed a close relationship with other German chemical firms, including BASF and Hoechst. This relationship was formalised in 1925 when Bayer was one of the chemical companies that merged to form the massive German conglomerate Interessengemeinschaft Farben or IG Farben, for short. It was the largest single company in Germany and it became the single largest donor to Hitler's election campaign. After Hitler came to power, IG Farben worked in close collaboration with the Nazis, becoming the largest profiteer from the Second World War. Amongst much else, IG Farben produced all the explosives for the German military and systematically looted the chemical industries of occupied Europe. It's been described as the Nazis' "industrial jackal" following in the wake of Hitler's armies.

During the Second World War, IG Farben used slave labour in many of its factories and mines and by 1944 more than 83,000 forced labourers and death camp inmates had been put to work in the IG Farben camp at Auschwitz in Nazi-occupied Poland. Auschwitz was a vast labour and death camp where more human beings were put to death than were killed in the whole of World War I. It was comprised by 3 main camps: Auschwitz I, a concentration camp; Auschwitz II (Birkenau), an extermination camp in which by 1944 some 6,000 people a day were being killed; and Auschwitz III, which supplied slave labour for the nearby IG Farben plant (Buna-Werke, also known as IG Auschwitz).

IG Farben's Auschwitz plant was a massive industrial complex. The largest outside of Germany, it consumed as much electricity as the entire city of Berlin. Built and run by slave labour, it is thought - at a conservative estimate - to have cost at least 35,000 lives. In 1941, Otto Armbrust, the IG Farben board member responsible for IG Farben's Auschwitz project, told his colleagues, "our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company." But not only did thousands of slave labourers die from the conditions in which they worked for IG Farben, those camp inmates who were viewed as too sick or weak to continue to labour in the IG Auschwitz plant were selected for the gas chambers. IG Farben paid 100,000 reichsmarks each year to the SS and in return was assured a continuous supply of fresh slave labour, while being "relieved" of unfit inmates.

Elie Wiesel, the writer, Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor, came to Auschwitz in 1944 and was sent with his father to IG Farben's Buna work camp. That same year, the Holocaust survivor and author Primo Levi was among 125 men selected at the railhead for labour at IG's Buna-Werke. One of only 3 survivors from this group, Levi later wrote about his experiences in searing detail, "A fortnight after my arrival there I already had the prescribed hunger, that chronic hunger unknown to free men... On the back of my feet I already have those numb sores that will not heal. I push wagons, I work with a shovel, I turn rotten in the rain, I shiver in the wind, already my own body is no longer mine: my belly is swollen, my limbs emaciated." In "Night", Elie Wiesel's acclaimed memoir of his personal experiences of the Holocaust, he describes how veterans of IG's Buna-Werke told those who had arrived there late in the war that the brutal treatment they were experiencing was as nothing to what had previously been endured by the IG work force: "No water, no blankets, less soup and bread. At night we slept almost naked and the temperature was 30 below. We were collecting corpses by the hundreds every day... Work was very hard... [The gangmasters] had orders to kill a certain number of prisoners every day; and every week selection [for the gas chambers] - a merciless selection."

When it came to "selection", it was an IG Farben subsidiary, with IG Farben managers on its Management Committee, that manufactured and supplied Zyklon B to the SS. This poisonous cyanide-based pesticide, on which IG Farben held the patent, was used during the Holocaust to annihilate more than a million people at both the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek extermination camps. The form of Zyklon B used in the gas chambers was deliberately made without the normal warning odorant. IG Farben also supplied the SS with the Methanol used to burn the corpses.

In 1946 the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal concluded that without IG Farben the Second World War would simply not have been possible. The Chief Prosecutor, Telford Taylor, warned, "These companies, not the lunatic Nazi fanatics, are the main war criminals. If the guilt of these criminals is not brought to daylight and if they are not punished, they will pose a much greater threat to the future peace of the world than Hitler if he were still alive." Their indictment stated that due to the activities of IG Farben "the life and happiness of all peoples in the world were adversely affected".Charges as grave as fomenting war and killing slave labourers were also added. In his opening statement the Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor pointed out that, "The indictment accuses these men of major responsibility for visiting upon mankind the most searing and catastrophic war inhuman history. It accuses them of wholesale enslavement, plunder and murder."

According to the Nuremberg prosecutors, "We have seen Farben integrating itself with the Nazi tyranny, turning its technical genius to the furnishing of... commodities vital to the reconstruction of the German war machine, and emerging in Hermann Goering's entourage at the highest level of economic planning and mobilization for war. We have seen Farben poised for the kill, and subsequently swollen by economic conquest in the helpless occupied countries. Faced with a shortage of workers, we have seen Farben turn to Goering and Himmler, and persuading these worthies to marshal the legions of concentration-camp inmates as tools of the Farben war machine. We have seen these wretched workers dying by the thousands, some on the Farben construction site, many more in the Auschwitz gas chambers after Farben had drained the vitality from their miserable bodies... Literally millions of people were put to death in the very backyard of one of Farben's pet projects - a project in which Farben invested 600 million reichsmarks of its own money."

Although the Nuremberg Tribunal indicted 24 IG Farben board members and executives on the basis of crimes against humanity, only 13 received prison sentences. And the sentences they received were described by the Nuremberg Chief Prosecutors "light enough to please a chicken thief". By the early 1950s a number of those convicted of slavery, looting, and mass murder were back at the helm of the very companies - Bayer, Hoechstand BASF, formed out of the assets of IG Farben in 1952.The owners of these "new" companies were also the shareholders of IG Farben. Thus, although the gravity of the crimes committed by IG Farben meant the company was considered too corrupt to be allowed to continue to exist, it was supplanted by its key constituents - companies like Bayer which were owned, and directed at the highest level, by the very same people as IG Farben. Those who had helped Hitler to power and provided the technical know-how for his wars of aggression and the Holocaust, were back in control of the industry.

The Bayer executive Fritz ter Meer typifies the bounce back. An executive of IG for many years, the most senior scientist on its supervisory board and the chairman of its technical committee, he had become a Nazi Party member in 1937 and was the executive responsible for the construction of the IG Farben factory in Auschwitz, in which tens of thousands of slave labourers met their deaths. Ter Meer's own visits to Auschwitz and the detailed reports he received made it inconceivable that he did not have a clear picture of what was occurring. The Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal found him guilty of plunder, slavery, and mass murder. As a result, Ter Meer received the longest sentence of any of the IG Farben board members. But despite being found the most culpable of the men who, in the words of Chief Prosecutor, "made war possible... the magicians who made the fantasies of Mein Kampf come true", ter Meer was already out of prison by 1952. By 1956 he had become the chairman of the supervisory board of Bayer, a post he held until 1964. Even today Bayer continues to honour this convicted mass murderer. On All Saints Day 2006, for instance, the corporation is known to have laid a wreath on ter Meer's grave in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. Yet for decades Bayer refused to pay compensation to its surviving slave labourers. Only after international protests did it eventually agree to pay damages - more than 50 years after the end of the war.

Bayer continued to grow in the post-war period, eventually becoming bigger than the whole of IG Farben even at its zenith. Even as part of IG Farben, Bayer had maintained its strength in pharmaceuticals. In fact, scientific experiments had been done specifically on behalf of Bayer in Auschwitz and other concentration camps. IG had footed the bill for the research of Josef Mengele, Auschwitz-Birkenau's infamous "Angel of Death", and some of his experiments utilised germs and pharmaceuticals provided by Bayer. Wilhelm Mann, whose father had headed Bayer's pharmaceutical department, wrote as head of IG's powerful pharmaceutical committee to an SS contact at Auschwitz, "I have enclosed the first cheque. Dr Mengele's experiments should, as we both agreed, be pursued. Heil Hitler." IG employee SS major Dr Helmuth Vetter, stationed at Auschwitz, participated in human medical experiments by order of Bayer. Prisoners died as a result of many of these experiments. Vetter was convicted of war crimes in 1947 and was executed in 1949 but Bayer's role only emerged later. In the Auschwitz files correspondence was discovered between the camp commander and Bayer. It dealt with the sale of 150 female prisoners for experimental purposes and involved haggling over the price. One exchange notes, "The experiments were performed. All test persons died. We will contact you shortly about a new shipment at the same price." According to testimony by SS physician Dr Hoven during the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal, "It should be generally known, and especially in German scientific circles, that the SS did not have notable scientists at its disposal. It is clear that the experiments in the concentration camps with IG preparations only took place in the interests of the IG, which strived by all means to determine the effectiveness of these preparations. They let the SS deal with the - shall I say - dirty work in the concentration camps. It was not the IG's intention to bring any of this out in the open, but rather to put up a smoke screen around the experiments so that... they could keep any profits to themselves. Not the SS but the IG took the initiative for the concentration camp experiments."

In the post-war years Bayer grew to become the third largest pharmaceutical company in the world. In the mid-1980s Bayer was one of the companies which sold a product called Factor VIII concentrate to treat haemophilia. Factor VIII turned out to be infected with HIV and in the U.S. alone, it infected thousands of haemophiliacs, many of whom died in one of the worst drug-related medical disasters ever. But it was only in 2003 that the "New York Times" revealed that Bayer had continued producing and selling this infected product to Asia and Latin America after February 1984 when a safe product had become available, in order to save money. Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, who investigated the scandal, commented, "These are the most incriminating internal pharmaceutical industry documents I have ever seen."

In the early 1990's Bayer is said to have placed patients at risk of potentially fatal infections by failing to disclose crucial safety information during a trial of the antibiotic Ciproxin. Up to 650 people underwent surgery using Ciproxin without doctors being informed that studies (as early as 1989) showed Ciproxin reacted badly with other drugs, seriously impairing its ability to kill bacteria.

In 2001 Bayer had to recall its anti-cholesterol drug Baycol/Lipobay, which was subsequently linked to over 100 deaths and 1,600 injuries. Germany's health minister accused Bayer of sitting on research documenting Baycol's lethal side-effects for nearly two months before the government in Berlin was informed.

It is thought to have been partly in response to the impact of the Baycol scandal that Bayer bought the rival crop sciences unit of French company Aventis, which had absorbed part of Hoechst, in October 2001. Bayer CropScience was formed in 2002 when Bayer AG acquired Aventis CropScience and fused it with their own agrochemicals division (Bayer Pflanzenschutz or "Crop Protection"). The Belgian biotech company Plant Genetic Systems, also became part of Bayervia the acquisition of Aventis CropScience.

Today Bayer CropScience is one of Bayer's core business divisions, which include:

* Bayer HealthCare: drugs, medical devices, and diagnostic equipment
* Bayer MaterialScience AG: polymers and plastics
* Bayer CropScience: GM crops and agro-chemicals

Bayer is the world's leading pesticide manufacturer and the world's seventh largest seed company. Bayer CropScience is responsible for the majority of GM field trials in European countries. Bayer's GM crops are mostly "Liberty Link" - designed to be resistant to its "Liberty" herbicide. Liberty is a trade name for Bayer's glufosinate weedkiller. Together with Monsanto's Roundup Ready crops, Bayer's Liberty Link crops are one of the two main types of GM herbicide resistant crops, but glufosinate is a controversial herbicide. In January 2009, the European Parliament voted to ban pesticides classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction. As a result the permit for glufosinate will not be renewed. A European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) evaluation states that glufosinate poses a high risk to mammals. It is classified as reprotoxic, because of research evidence that it can cause premature birth, intrauterine death and abortions in rats. Japanese studies show that the substance can also hamper the development and activity of the human brain. Bayer's systemic insecticide Imidacloprid, sold in some countries under the name Gaucho, and Clothianidin, has also proven highly controversial as it is widely believed to have contributed significantly to bee deaths. There have been calls for neonicotinoids to be withdrawn as seed dressings for crops that might affect bees, or even for a complete ban on their use. In May 2008 German authorities blamed Clothianidin for the deaths of millions of honeybees, and the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) suspended the registration for eight pesticide seed treatment products, including Clothianidin and Imidacloprid, on maize and rape.

In 2008, Bayer CropScience was at the centre of a huge controversy in the aftermath of an explosion at one of its U.S. pesticide production facilities. A U.S. Congressional investigation found faulty safety systems, significant shortcomings with the emergency procedures and a lack of employee training had led to the explosion which killed two employees. The region apparently narrowly escaped a catastrophe that could have surpassed the 1984 Bhopal disaster. According to the Congressional investigation, "Evidence obtained by the committee demonstrates that Bayer engaged in a campaign of secrecy by withholding critical information from local, county, and state emergency responders; by restricting the use of information provided to federal investigators; by undermining news outlets and citizen groups concerned about the dangers posed by Bayer's activities; and by providing inaccurate and misleading information to the public." Bayer CropScience were found to have deliberately removed and destroyed evidence after the chemical explosion.

Bayer CropScience has been involved in a large number of controversies related to GM crops, perhaps most notably the contamination in 2006 of much of the US long-grain rice supply by Bayer's unapproved Liberty Link GM rice. This caused the U.S. rice industry's worst ever crisis with:

* over 40% of US rice exports negatively affected
* multiple federal lawsuits filed
* trade with the 25-nation EU at a standstill
* other countries banning US long-grain rice imports
* many other countries requiring testing of all imports of U.S. rice
* some markets for medium- and short-grain rice being affected
* another unapproved Bayer GM rice (LL62) also being detected in U.S. rice supplies
* US rice farmers being warned they would never again be able to validly describe their crop as "GM-free"

Tellingly, a key factor in the sale of Aventis CropScience to Bayer was a similar crisis involving GM maize. The Starlink fiasco started when in October 2000 traces of an Aventis GM maize (corn) called StarLink showed up in the food supply in the U.S. even though it only had approval for animal feeds or industrial use. Starlink was not approved for human consumption because the Environmental Protection Agency couldn't rule out the possibility that humans would be allergic to it. The agency's approval had been conditional on Aventis's agreement to keep Starlink from being eaten by humans.

The Starlink fiasco eventually led to a massive recall of over 300 U.S. food brands due to the enormous scale of the contamination. ABC News reported in late November 2000, "In Iowa, StarLink corn represented 1 percent of the total [maize] crop, only 1 percent. It has tainted 50 percent of the harvest."The 'StarLink' gene also showed up unexpectedly in a second company's maize and in US maize exports. United Press International reported, "Aventis CropScience Wednesday was at a loss to explain why another variety of corn besides its StarLink brand is producing the [StarLink] Cry9C protein." U.S. maize exports to big buyers were badly hurt. Federal officials blamed the unauthorized appearance of genetically engineered maize in the food supply solely on its manufacturer.

Fortunately, unlike Monsanto, Bayer sells many products directly to consumers making them easy to boycott. These include: Aleve, Alka Seltzer, Advantix, Claritin, Coppertone, Dr. Scholl's, Levitra. For a complete list see:

“By slipping it into our food without our knowledge, without any indication that there are genetically modified organisms in our food, we are now unwittingly part of a massive experiment.” Geneticist David Suzuki (Humans “are part of a massive experiment.”)

“*Please don’t be a smartypants and say, “Hey, all crops are genetically modified”. Yes, yes, we have been selectively breeding plants for thousands of years. We all know that. But the term “GMOs” refers to the recent development of “gene splicing” and the development of transgenic crops, creating forms of life that nature, or selective breeding, could never have created.

Trailer: Roundup Facing its Judges : the DVD

After her best selling film and book The World according to Monsanto, award-winning journalist Marie-Monique Robin presents her new documentary Roundup facing its judges on the use of glyphosate based herbicides around the globe. She deconstructs the mechanisms of one of the greatest environmental and health scandals in modern history. Her film showcases an exceptional investigation on a subject that concerns all of us, because glyphosate is everywhere: in the soils, the water, the food and the air. The guiding thread of the documentary is the Monsanto International Tribunal, held in the Hague in October 2016.

EU-funded rat feeding studies do not refute the Séralini study

It seems that the pro-GMO lobbyists were banking on the assumption that people wouldn't actually read the studies but would just believe the soundbites they supplied in press releases, summaries, and quotes to the press.

False claims of "no effect" in a GMO feeding study are easier to get away with if they are made before the study appears in print, as no one can check if the claims are true.

This brings us to a revealing double standard in operation regarding GMO safety studies. It appears that it is a cardinal scientific sin to go public with such claims prior to peer-reviewed publication – but only if the message is that the GMO causes harm. If the message is that the GMO is safe, there's no problem with jumping the gun and going public with claims before the study has been published.

Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of our Lives

What is GMO and how did it get into our food? Genetic Roulette tells the story...

When the US government ignored repeated warnings by its own scientists and allowed untested genetically modified (GM) crops into our environment and food supply, it was a gamble of unprecedented proportions. The health of all living things and all future generations were put at risk by an infant technology. After two decades, physicians and scientists have uncovered a grave trend. The same serious health problems found in lab animals, livestock, and pets that have been fed GM foods are now on the rise in the US population. And when people and animals stop eating genetically modified organisms (GMOs), their health improves. This seminal documentary provides compelling evidence to help explain the deteriorating health of Americans, especially among children, and offers a recipe for protecting ourselves and our future. A film by Jeffrey M. Smith. Narrated by Lisa Oz A production of the Institute for Responsible Technology.

GM wheat appearance in Alberta remains a mystery

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed that Monsanto’s Roundup Ready trait has been discovered in wheat growing along an access road leading to an oil rig in a field in southern Alberta.

The plants where found in the summer of 2017 when they were sprayed with Roundup and didn’t die.

CFIA will be monitoring the farm and surrounding areas for the next three years. The land where the GM wheat was discovered will be kept fallow and will be sprayed with a herbicide that kills GM wheat.

Pre-sliced apples are already a frequently recalled food product. Once the whole fruit is sliced, it has an increased risk of exposure to pathogens. Since browning is a sign that apples are no longer fresh, “masking” this natural sign could lead people to consume contaminated apples.

Whether dried or fresh, selling unlabeled genetically engineered apples is irresponsible given they have not be adequately assessed for health or environmental risks.

Serious new hurdle for CRISPR: Edited cells might cause cancer, find two studies

As for why no one has reported CRISPR’d mice getting cancer, Haapaniemi said, “This is a good question.” One reason might be that “laboratory mice are killed early,” perhaps leaving too little time for them to develop cancer.

But Corn said he and others “have all been looking for the possibility of cancer. So far, no one has seen evidence of [it] based on p53 status or induced by editing”.

Nevertheless, he called the two papers “important, since they remind everyone that genome editing isn’t magic”.

Genome-editing tool could increase cancer risk - Published 2018-06-11

Two independent articles published in the journal Nature Medicine now report that therapeutic application of the genome-editing tool may, in fact, increase the risk of cancer. In one of the studies, scientists from Karolinska Institutet and the University of Helsinki report that use of CRISPR-Cas9 in human cells in a laboratory setting can activate a protein known as p53, which acts as a cell’s ‘first aid kit’ for DNA breaks. Once active, p53 reduces the efficiency of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing. Thus, cells that do not have p53 or are unable to activate it show better gene editing. Unfortunately, however, lack of p53 is also known to contribute to making cells grow uncontrollably and become cancerous.

These Popular Tea Brands Possess Dangerously High Levels of Pesticides!

The levels found in these products are so high that they are considered unsafe for consumption. As with most products, all tea is not created equal. Most teas are not washed before being dried, thus non-organic teas contain pesticide residues. Some tea brands (even those claimed organic or pesticide free) have recently been found to contain pesticides that are known carcinogens and in quantities above the US and EU limits. Tea plants drink up pesticides and heavy metals like a sponge.

Avoid these 19 tea brands at all costs:

Most Iowa public schools are in range of potential pesticide spray drift, study shows

Nine of every 10 public school districts in Iowa have buildings within 2,000 feet of a farm field, making students and teachers susceptible to being exposed to pesticides that drift from the fields when pesticides are sprayed.

Yet many school officials interviewed for an IowaWatch/Tiger Hi-Line investigation this spring showed little to no awareness on if or how pesticide drift could affect the staff and students in school buildings.

I put it in my pet’s water and I make a drink of green tea, ACV, juice and drink it on work days and when I am in pain. (When adding to your pet’s water, start with a few drops and increase daily.) Everything I’ve learned about ACV I learned on “Earth Clinic’s” website. Also Seneff has told us that ACV removes Glyphosate from the body. Earth Clinic is slow going when it comes to educating about Glyphosate and gmo foods but, these are tried and true remedies that our ancestors relied upon. Real food is real medicine.

Dangers of GMOs

In the first half, Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology and the leading spokesperson on the health dangers of genetically modified foods, Jeffrey Smith talked about the epic battlefronts on the war over GMOs. Monsanto, the largest manufacturer of genetically engineered seeds, is merging with Bayer and will be known as Bayer going forward. The Germany-based Bayer has a dubious history, Smith cited, noting their manufacture of poisons like Zyklon B in WWII that were used to kill more than a million people in Auschwitz. Monsanto, he suggested, was reliant on their Roundup pesticide, which has been failing, and this may have motivated the merger. The company, he added, has a tremendous liability as they're being sued by thousands of people with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma after the W.H.O. declared glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) as a probable human carcinogen.

The USDA just released a draft of its proposed rules on labeling GMOs, and Smith finds it to reveal a "schizophrenic split" in the government, which no longer is completely backing companies like Monsanto. But instead of a warning label of GMO, they want to use "B.E." for bio-engineered, with a smiling sun for the logo. Smith expressed concern that the biotech industry as a whole has expanded and is now seeking to or already genetically engineering fish, insects, livestock, bacteria, viruses, and algae. "They want to eliminate billions of years of evolution," he lamented, and replace it all with designer organisms and genes, rushed to the market without adequate testing while their patents are still active.

Seneff: “I just did this interview last night and it is already available on the web. I talk about some of my most recent insights regarding glyphosate's mechanisms of toxicity.”

Episode 55: The Health Dangers of Roundup (glyphosate) Herbicide

“The children are being poisoned by their food everyday.”

Stephanie Seneff will also share a list of several proteins that are upregulated in the liver under stress conditions and where defects in these proteins that specifically involve glycine mutations lead to diseases such as the above that are currently on the rise.

However, this time their PR campaign against the Study was only met with contempt and disdain from journalists, politicians, scientists and the public in countries across Europe.

It is time that we all stop Monsanto in their tracks and support the Global Glyphosate Study, which is being funded by the public worldwide. You can help them by donating here.

Mixtures of chemicals present at so-called "safe" levels cause liver damage

Non-linear dose responses were observed for most of the endpoints studied, meaning that the toxic effect did not increase in line with the dose, but lower doses had a more toxic effect.

Overall, the results suggest that exposure to low doses of the chemical mixture might induce liver damage as a result of the combination of different toxic mechanisms.

Six months exposure to a real life mixture of 13 chemicals' below individual NOAELs induced non monotonic sex-dependent biochemical and redox status changes in rats

Food Chem Toxicol. 2018 May

Abstract: This study assessed the potential adverse health effects of long-term low-dose exposure to chemical mixtures simulating complex real-life human exposures. Four groups of Sprague Dawley rats were administered mixtures containing carbaryl, dimethoate, glyphosate, methomyl, methyl parathion, triadimefon, aspartame, sodium benzoate, calcium disodium ethylene diamine tetra-acetate, ethylparaben, butylparaben, bisphenol A, and acacia gum at doses of 0, 0.25, 1 or 5 times the respective Toxicological Reference Values (TRV): acceptable daily intake (ADI) or tolerable daily intake (TDI) in a 24 weeks toxicity study. Body weight gain, feed and water consumption were evaluated weekly. At 24 weeks blood was collected and biochemistry parameters and redox status markers were assessed. Adverse effects were observed on body weight gain and in hepatotoxic parameters such as the total bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), especially in low dose and affecting mainly male rats. The low dose group showed increased catalase activity both in females and males, whereas the high dose group exhibited decreased protein carbonyl and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels in both sex groups. Non-monotonic effects and adaptive responses on liver function tests and redox status, leading to non-linear dose-responses curves, are probably produced by modulation of different mechanisms.

Just-Released Docs Show Monsanto 'Executives Colluding With Corrupted EPA Officials to Manipulate Scientific Data' - 2017

More than 75 documents, including intriguing text messages and discussions about payments to scientists, were posted for public viewing early Tuesday morning by attorneys who are suing Monsanto on behalf of people alleging Roundup caused them or their family members to become ill with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. The attorneys posted the documents, which total more than 700 pages, on the website for the law firm Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman, one of many firms representing thousands of plaintiffs who are pursuing claims against Monsanto. More than 100 of those lawsuits have been consolidated in multidistrict litigation in federal court in San Francisco, while other similar lawsuits are pending in state courts in Missouri, Delaware, Arizona and elsewhere. The documents, which were obtained through court-ordered discovery in the litigation, are also available as part of a long list of Roundup court case documents compiled by the consumer group I work for, U.S. Right to Know.

Commonly used plastic chemical upgraded from ‘possible carcinogen’ to ‘probable carcinogen’

“For decades, we’ve known that polystyrene is terrible for wildlife because it doesn’t biodegrade – hundreds of species have been found to ingest plastic fragments, often fatally,” said Alex Truelove, zero waste director for U.S. PIRG Education Fund. “Now, in addition to persisting in the environment for hundreds of years, we now know that the primary compound of polystyrene is probably carcinogenic. It’s yet another reason to get rid of the stuff once and for all.”

Earlier this week, the Environment America launched the Wildlife Over Waste Campaign to pass statewide bans on polystyrene containers.

“Nothing we use for five minutes should threaten public health and persist in the environment for hundreds of years,” said Truelove. “Safer and more sustainable alternatives already exist – it’s time to ban polystyrene containers.”

New Law Could Remove GMO Labeling From Thousands of Foods

An analysis of newly proposed rule changes reveals that thousands of genetically engineered foods may be exempt from upcoming labeling requirements.

“Among the other possible GMO ingredients EWG identified that are not highly refined sugars and oils, are dozens of ingredients used as thickening agents, colorants, flavorings, emulsifiers and binders that are derived from highly adopted GMO crops like corn and soybeans,” the EWG wrote. “And many of these ingredients often appear in low levels at the bottom of ingredient lists, meaning that in combination, the GMO ingredients in thousands of foods could fall below a 5 percent exemption.”

American consumers need to take into account the revolving door relationship between the companies who produce the genetically engineered products and the U.S. government, as well as the relationship between these companies and the pharmaceutical industry. Most notably, the relationship between the U.S. government and Monsanto (now owned by Bayer) indicates that powerful corporations and their partners in government are working to completely control the food and health of the people. Only by boycotting these companies and removing your support from government can we hope to slow down this abomination.

Monsanto judge won't block cancer victims' key witnesses

It’s a significant victory for the cancer victims, who need expert testimony to advance more than 300 suits in San Francisco federal court seeking to hold Monsanto liable for failing to warn consumers about the risk of using the weed killer.

Monsanto "bullied scientists" and hid weed killer cancer risk, lawyer tells court

“Monsanto has specifically gone out of its way to bully ... and to fight independent researchers,” said the attorney Brent Wisner, who presented internal Monsanto emails that he said showed how the agrochemical company rejected critical research and expert warnings over the years while pursuing and helping to write favorable analyses of their products. “They fought science.”

Wisner further cited Monsanto emails from decades prior, in which the company was working with a genotoxicity expert who reviewed a series of 1990s studies. He raised concerns about Roundup impacts on humans and suggested further areas of research. After the expert’s analyses, Monsanto representatives began considering finding a different expert and also started working on a press statement saying the product carried no risk, according to Johnson’s lawyer.

Wisner also read documents that he said showed how Monsanto strategized plans to “ghostwrite” favorable research.

Regardless of the outcome, the attorney said, “so much of what Monsanto has worked to keep secret is coming out”.

Lawsuits alleging Roundup caused cancer can move forward

Hundreds of lawsuits alleging Roundup weed killer caused cancer cleared a big hurdle Tuesday when a U.S. judge ruled that cancer victims and their families could present expert testimony linking the herbicide to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Dean Foods is shutting the plant at the end of the summer because Walmart is building its own processing facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and will work directly with dairy farms there instead.

What is Scientific Consensus?

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we had exercised caution with asbestos, tobacco, phthalates, and other harmful things that were once touted as technological miracles? We think so, and that’s why we advocate for following the precautionary principle. Unfortunately, it’s hard to exercise caution when genetically modified foods are not labeled. More than 60 countries around the world require GMO labeling, which gives consumers the ability to choose for themselves. We think everyone should have that right!

Genetically Modified Food Is Safe, Chinese Experts Say; Dozens of Countries Disagree

Some 38 countries across the world, including Russia, Germany, France, the UK, and Peru, have banned the cultivation of DNA-modified produce, such as corn, soybeans, and zucchini, according to a report done by anti-GMO group Sustainable Pulse in 2015. Several studies imply that crops which have been modified for a better resistance of pests and weather conditions pose safety risks to humans including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system, US-based Institute for Responsible Technology says.

The corn rootworm pest has developed resistance to GM Bt insecticidal toxins

The article below details the problems with corn rootworm pest resistance to GM Bt insecticidal traits. As a solution, in the article, the National Corn Growers Association recommends the "refuge-in-a-bag" method, whereby GM Bt seeds are mixed with non-GM seeds, in order to try to delay (not prevent) resistance by maintaining a population of Bt-susceptible pests.

However, this method has already broken down with regard to the corn earworm. And farmers are routinely recommended to use an array of chemical insecticides in addition to Bt traits – a method that is also recommended in the article below.

To try to overcome resistance, Monsanto is developing gene-silencing (RNAi) technology. But this comes with huge risks from off-target effects. And yes, these risks include that consumers of the corn could have their genes silenced.

Moms Across America

June 14 at 12:00 PM · LIVE: With Dr. Zach Bush- How Your Gut Affects Every Aspect of Your Life. Q&A with Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America

Zen: “Medical journals are being bought off. All the more reason to trust moms - people who just want safe kids. Stay connected.”

This Is The Sickening Amount Pharmaceutical Companies Pay Top Journal Editors - Scientific publishing is totally broken.

Of the journals that could be assessed, 50.6 percent of editors were receiving money from the pharmaceutical industry - in some cases, hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Here's just a small highlight showing editor payments received in 2014 - the amount on the left is direct payments, and the 'research' payments on the right are less regulated, usually made in the form of expensive research trips.

And that's not even mentioning the amount of reprint money journals get whenever they publish a study that supports a pharmaceutical company, and the company pays for hundreds of copies to send out to doctors.

The Lancet earns 41 percent of its income from reprints, and the American Medical Association gets 53 percent.

"The medical profession is being bought by the pharmaceutical industry, not only in terms of the practice of medicine, but also in terms of teaching and research," said the late Arnold Relman, a former editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in 2002. He passed away in 2014.

"The academic institutions of this country are allowing themselves to be the paid agents of the pharmaceutical industry. I think it's disgraceful."

This is why more and more researchers are publishing their work in pre-print and open-access journals, where the world can see their research for free.

Rats fed GM stacked-trait maize developed leaky stomachs

But this was not what they found. At the end of the experiment, the rats were killed and samples of their stomachs were examined under the microscope. The rats fed the GM maize diet had worrying changes in the lining of their stomachs.

Any two cells that line the stomach are normally held tightly against each other to form a “tight junction”. This stops bacteria, viruses or food particles from leaking out from the stomach into the tissues of the body. The researchers found that the rats fed the GM corn had gaps in their tight junctions. This is called “poor apposition”. On average, this was five times greater in rats fed the GM corn diet.

The study:

...The study investigated the mucosa of the stomach. Alterations to tight junction apposition, gland dilatations with epithelial elongation and dysplasia in the GM-fed rats were observed. These results indicate that GM-corn may have an effect on rat stomach mucosa, which may have health implications.

However, given that the FDA has tested fewer than 100 products (as far as we can tell), most of which were honey, these results are important.

Over the years, although heavily outnumbered at meetings, Scott Tips and his colleagues at the NHF have been tireless in their efforts to roll back undue corporate influence at Codex. Thanks to NHF and others urging the committee to adopt a clear, non-misleading definition that excluded GE foods, no final decision was taken on the definition of biofortification.

It is now left to the committee to resolve the matter at next year’s meeting or even the one thereafter.

Making the Connection: How Herbicide Use Correlates to Modern Disease

Guest: Dr. Stephanie Seneff, Sr. Research Scientist at the MIT is at the intersection of human biophysics and data analysis providing profound analysis of data and studies conducted on these very topics. Discussion focuses on the herbicide ‘glyphosate’ and its use on core crops around the US and around the world. Dr. Seneff has correlated its use with the rise in many modern diseases, including cancer, non hodgkin’s lymphoma, diabetes and even autism. Also discussed is current Monsanto litigation over the potential toxic effects of these products used alone and in combination with other herbicides. Dr. Seneff walks us through the data and explaining that even though in the law, correlation does not equal to causation–there appears to be a rather alarming trend going on. This episode is a “must watch” for anyone contemplating parenthood, as well as those who put a firm priority on their health. GM wheat policy called irresponsible

Escapes of genetically modified plants and resulting market disruptions were predicted by the National Farmers Union 15 years ago.

Japan, which was the highest-priced market when the Canadian Wheat Board was marketing Canadian wheat, has stopped all shipments of Canadian wheat and flour. South Korea also suspended Canadian wheat imports for a short time and other countries may follow.

In June, 2003, an NFU media release highlighted the unacceptable risks of GM wheat, calling it BSE for grain farmers because of the consequences GM wheat could bring should it escape and cause market closures.

Following this latest discovery, Cereals Canada and its members were quick to revert to the “it’s all safe” biotech industry mantra, which ignores the very real market problems.

This is the next generation of modified food - CRISPR

What is CRISPR?

Here's EXACTLY how 'gene editing' works and the complicated moral dilemma it creates. CRISPR-based techniques provide a revolutionary way of editing DNA, but what are the applications, and what are the problems?

In some cases tiny changes in the sequence lead to very serious problems for example deformities and genetic illnesses.

But on the other, we don't know all the future implications of that change. And once it’s done, we can't take it back.

That change will be passed on from generation to generation.

To add to that, other potential complications of using CRISPR are emerging.

CRISPR-Edited Cells Linked to Cancer Risk in 2 Studies

The preliminary findings raise questions about one of the ways this tech edits genomes

As for why no one has reported CRISPR’d mice getting cancer, Haapaniemi said, “This is a good question.” One reason might be that “laboratory mice are killed early,” perhaps leaving too little time for them to develop cancer.

Will consumers sour on 'nature-identical' sweeteners from a lab?

Consumers might like the idea of using less water, land and energy to produce these sweeteners, but they may not care for the idea of using genetically engineered yeast. In 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration accepted Cargill's EverSweet under its generally recognized as safe designation and determined that products in which it's included don't need to carry GMO labeling. However, the perception that natural is better is a tough sentiment to overcome.

Better Beer from Genetically Engineered Yeast

Kevin Verstrepen, a leading yeast geneticist at the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology and the University of Leuven, Belgium, notes that today there is not a single commercial beer on the market that is made with genetically engineered yeast. But, he says, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (and its European counterpart) have clear pathways to bring these yeasts to the market. In fact, some American wines are already being made with a genetically modified wine yeast, called ML01—it lacks the genes that produce a chemical that gives some wine drinkers headaches. This genetically modified yeast does not have to be identified on wine labels.

The USDA comment period on its proposed GMO labeling rule brought in more than 11,000 comments from farm groups, consumers, and multinational companies like Hershey’s. Politico says food manufacturers are at odds with farmers over which ingredients should actually be subject to disclosure.

Rise of Allergies in the National News: But What is the REAL News? - 2013

The real news is that the major rotation crop in cotton growing areas is guess what? Peanuts.

Plant a peanut crop after a RR cotton crop and you have glyphosate residue in the soil that the peanut plant (legume crop) will take up. Glyphosate also causes an increase in opportunistic fungi in the soil which causes plant diseases which cause the development of mold and mycotoxins to be in peanut crops.** To combat that, guess what? They spray the peanut crop with a fungicide. Might there be fungicide residue in the peanuts?

Why would there ever be a problem with allergies? I hope you get the sarcasm here.

The real news is:

How many kids have died from peanut allergies? Are you a parent of a child who has a peanut allergy?

Do you fear for their life like I do?

If not, did you know that 78% of the children who die from a food allergy never had a severe allergic attack before?

In a neighboring school district the number of kids who need Epi Pens was 750 last year. This year it is 2000.

That is 2000 kids that could die from food. Die. OUR kids! Is there anything more outrageous or horrible???

Why are we permitting corporation profits to be more important than our children's lives?

Hershey, Unilever: GMO labeling should apply to highly refined oils, sweeteners

Ashley Everly: “You don't have to have a degree in toxicology (like I do 😉) to understand that, although we are all human, each person has a unique capacity to confront the toxic substances we are exposed to on a daily basis.

This genetic mutation (MTHFR) is one major reason why some individuals have an increased risk of vaccine injury. This is a major contributor to why some infants and toddlers die or become permanently injured within a week or two of their shots.

MTHFR is a genetic mutation associated with a risk of adverse events from vaccination:

But ultimately, MTHFR is not the problem. The problem is that when we vaccinate, we are essentially injecting children with poison in order to provoke an immune response. A genetically susceptible child who suffers severely or dies as a result of their shots would have remained healthy had they not been poisoned. Period.

Besides MTHFR, other genetic traits, and heritable burdens of toxicity, factors that can affect one's ability to detoxify are diet/nutrition, stress levels, and other toxic environmental exposures (in our air, food, water, body care products, medicines/drugs/vaccines, etc.).

Unfortunately, Americans have one of the worst, most unhealthy diets of any population on earth, we typically have high stress levels, our drinking water is not safe (in my opinion), our food is poisoned with pesticides and herbicides, we are being sprayed with toxic chemicals for mosquito abatement (among other sources of air pollution), our body care products are full of carcinogenic compounds (parabens, for example), and we are highly medicated and vaccinated…”

Have you learned about MTHFR mutations?

If you’re new to this, here’s a simple explanation for why it’s important.

MTHFR is a gene that encodes for the MTHFR enzyme, which helps convert folic acid to methylfolate. We need methylfolate in order to create and turnover glutathione, the major detoxifying molecule our body needs in order to protect us from toxic exposures.

When the MTHFR gene has a mutation, the enzyme doesn’t fold correctly and this reduces its ability to convert folic acid to methylfolate. This in turn reduces the amount of glutathione we produce. Which translates to having a reduced ability to detoxify.

It also means that we have more unconverted folic acid in our system, which is a major problem in itself and has been linked to an increased risk of cancer (see linked post below).

Do you have a MTHFR mutation?

60% of the population has at least one copy (heterozygous) and 10% have two copies (homozygous). Having two copies is a more severe form of the mutation and therefore the enzyme has an even greater difficulty folding correctly and binding to & converting folic acid to methylfolate.

Swimming in toxins - Sunscreen contains benzene

Allowing it to penetrate right down to the bone marrow. Read the statistics at the end-over 96% of kids have this in their urine. This causes skin cancer, our bodies have no defense against the solvent properties of benzene rings.

How the EPA and the Pentagon Downplayed a Growing Toxic Threat

The EPA and the Department of Defense calibrated water tests to exclude some harmful levels of contamination and only register especially high concentrations of chemicals, according to the vice president of one testing company. Several prominent scientists told ProPublica the DOD chose to use tests that would identify only a handful of chemicals rather than more advanced tests that the agencies’ own scientists had helped develop which could potentially identify the presence of hundreds of additional compounds.

The Monsanto Papers: Poisoning the scientific well.

Examination of de-classified Monsanto documents from litigation in order to expose the impact of the company's efforts to influence the reporting of scientific studies related to the safety of the herbicide, glyphosate.

A set of 141 recently de-classified documents, made public during the course of pending toxic tort litigation, In Re Roundup Products Liability Litigation were examined.

The documents reveal Monsanto-sponsored ghostwriting of articles published in toxicology journals and the lay media, interference in the peer review process, behind-the-scenes influence on retraction and the creation of a so-called academic website as a front for the defense of Monsanto products.

The use of third-party academics in the corporate defense of glyhphosate reveals that this practice extends beyond the corruption of medicine and persists in spite of efforts to enforce transparency in industry manipulation.
