one geneva city council member wants a $2 million elevator installed at geneva city hall for those unable to use the stairs to the second or third floor

if the elevator gets only used for that purpose and it is used around 100 times a year

it would take 2,000 years to capture its use

save the geneva taxpayers money

buy two $30 tablets (computer) and have them on the first floor

if someone needs to talk to someone on the second or third floor just use the tablet to talk with a city employee thru a two way video call

city hall has wifi so no wires would be needed

spend $2 million on an elevator or $60 on two tablets?

spend the $60

most likely everyone that does not need to use the elevator would use it and the repair/operational costs would be high

if the council member wants to pay the $2 million out of their pocket let them

another option is to buy the old desales school and move city hall to that location

more parking and it would be one level

sell the current city hall and let the new owner convert the current city hall into a restaurant, office or retail or other business

The argument is that all three floors need to be accessible for potential employees, not just visitors. For example, if they hire a new city manager and that person is in a wheelchair, they won't be able to get to their own office.

If they can move city hall operations to a different location, that would be the more sensible and cost-effective thing to do.

If they insist on an elevator, then wait until ADA accessibility grant money is available before doing it. And forget about renovating council chambers, which is a big part of the cost of the project being discussed.

an office could be located on the first floor

west street school is being phased out of the school system

move city hall and the police staion to that location

the police station property/land could be used for development to create taxable properties

There are several offices on the second and third floors, so there isn't enough space to move everything to the first.

One of the other reasons for the renovations is to move council meetings out of the public safety building, which they have been trying to do for 20 years, so moving city hall and police to the same location wouldn't address that issue.

How about keep the PD where it is, move city operations somewhere else with offices and council chambers on the first floor, sell the city hall building?

I'm curious - what makes you think WSS is being phased out? The only reason 2nd grade is being moved to NSS is because all of the pre-K at satellite locations (hospital daycare, Lakefront, etc.) is being brought in-house to WSS. WSS will have all pre-K, Head Start, kindergarten and 1st grade according to GCSD.

moving both of them to a one story building would solve the concern

the current PD location would be considered to have a higher land value seeing that it is some what of a lake view / near the lake

move the PD
move the NYS labor department building
move the bank drive thru along that area
move the ice rink

that land has a higher value (somewhat lakeview) for taxable properties than what is currently there

from the ice rink down to the labor department over to the bank drive thru and than back to the ice rink

that triangluar area should all be development for higher taxable properties

large hotel(s), commercial, retail, office spaces with multiple story structures

Apparently your impression was incorrect. That's what the Super would like, but then she wanted to build another school on Carter Road. Fortunately our BOE argued against that idea.
