Hey, I found an incinerator that's bigger than this proposed incinerator. Down in New York city. And guess what else, all new incinerators will be about the same size. So scratch that from your list of false information.

And, where is it?

And what new incinerators are you expecting to come on line? Only one in the US in the last 20 yeara.

Most people are smarter than you and think this is a really stupid idea,

Really ! The whole world is going to incinerators even China. Most of the landfills in New York will be full in 10 years, then what ? The State wants to do away with landfills, nobody wants your contaminated recyclables, composting doesn't work and stinks worse than landfills. If incinerators are such a stupid idea how come a third of all MSW goes to incinerators in New York State ? People aren't as stupid as you think.

I am still waiting to hear about the bigger inincinerator in New York City.

If you do your research, you will find NYC CLOSED ALL its incinerators and landfills cute to complaints about trucks and smells from its residents, so they export it.

But I might have missed something. .where is it?

Nice try. You might get a few to believe that, but all you have to do is check the DEC website. MORE misinformation from the liberal Socialist Democratic play book.

https://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/23683.html

I figured you weren't smart enough to find it on your own.

This is what Chuck said:

The site you sent me to says there are NO INCINERATORS in NYC. Also, there are incinerators operating on Long Island, but the largest, Hempstead has a Waste Processing Capacity of 2,505 tons per day,

The Romulus site had an original capacity of 2960 tons per day for 50 MW. The latest filing with the PSC says that the plant will generate 80 MW. More energy, more trash???

WHERE IS THE INCINERATOR IN NYC?

Permit limits for Hempstead is 1,040,250 tons per year so with "your new numbers" I would be wrong. However your numbers are different than what was previously made public. As for MW output this project is supposed to be NEW TECHNOLOGY. In fact you have been using 1980 technology in your argument against this project all along. Some of your information is so out dated it could be considered ancient history grin

I got my number from Covanta Hempstead

Covanta Hempstead accepts delivery of waste 6 days a week and processes 24 hours a day, daily. Steam created in the combustion process drives an 80-megawatt turbine generator, producing electricity for in-plant use and for sale to the local utility. The facility is the cornerstone of Hempstead's integrated waste service plan that includes an extensive curbside collection system for recyclable materials.

Commercial Operation:
October 1989

Waste Processing Capacity:
2,505 tons per day

I think the operator's numbers tops the permit limits.

SO, WHERE IS THE INCINERATOR IN NYC?

You can have REGIONAL landfills but I can't have REGIONAL incinerators, OK so that means Seneca Meadows is not in the Finger Lakes. And I got my numbers from Hempstead's DEC permit and they are not from 1989.

As members of the Board of Health, we are concerned about the potential health impacts of burning 2,640 tons of garbage per day. The potential long-term impacts to air and water quality are alarming,” the letter states. “We must take measures to protect the physical environment, including our air and water quality as they directly affect our physical health.”

OK so this says 2640 tons you say 2960, which is it ?

My bad, the BOH is correct. 2640 tons/day is the latest estimate from Circular enerG.

2640x365 is 963600 tons per year, smaller than Hempstead

Love your arithmetic, but Hempstead says its capacity is 2505 tons/day. Circular enerG says 2640/tons per day.

WHERE IS THE NYC INCINERATOR?

OK, if you want to use 1989 figures, you're right. So does that make me 67 instead of 97 years old if I want to use 1989 figures.

My information is from the CURRENT COVANTA HEMPSTEAD WEBSITE

According to Covanta their Energy-from-Waste System includes:

Three 835 ton-per-day waterwall furnaces with Deutsche Babcock Anlagen roller grates and ash handling system

3 times 835 = 2505

Covanta Hempstead Company, located on 15 acres in Westbury, NY, began commercial operation in October 1989. As Long Island's largest Energy-from-Waste facility, Covanta Hempstead provides environmentally safe municipal solid waste disposal for the nation's most populous township. It marks the first U.S. installation of a globally successful mass burn technology by Deutsche Babcock Anlagen. Covanta Hempstead accepts delivery of waste 6 days a week and processes 24 hours a day, daily. Steam created in the combustion process drives an 80-megawatt turbine generator, producing electricity for in-plant use and for sale to the local utility. Of course they never work over time on Sunday because they have found its better to keep them running 24/7, which they are permitted to do.

1-the project has no DEC permit yet
2- it has no operating permit
3- no permitted capacity
So in fact you really don't know anything about it.

Besides I heard they found a better location

It will never pass. These politicians are just political posturing, telling you what you want to hear for votes. Remember these people have never really taken a stand against landfills and could possibly be protecting their friends who run landfills.

This bill corrects an error from the original bill. Article 10 is supposed to expedite permitting, especially for solar and wind. Neither of which impact air, water, traffic, or disposal of ash and leachate that incinerators do.

The lobbyists worked to make it "fuel neutral" so the industry could try tho sneak misguided projects like this through. Incinerators should not be in an expedited process. They should be subject to local zoning and full SEQR, with an EIS.

This bill would make sure that trash incinerators get appropriate scrutiny wherever they are proposed.

This would apply at a new location if your rumor is true.

I can't speak for everyone, but I like solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, you know, the clean methods.

So I am not against everything, only smelly, polluting stupid ideas.

Chuck makes perfect sense.
The solution to pollution is no people.
The biggest sources of pollution are farm animals, cars and burning fossil fuels for heating your home, hot water and cooking. Americas use up 25% of the world's resources and consume up to 32 times as much as the average person in less developed countries.
