The Power of Big Pharma

Piper-Terry: “A while back Ben Swann produced an excellent report documenting the fraud at the CDC in the MMR-Autism study published in the journal Pediatrics in 2004. The report was part of Swann’s Truth in Media series. It went viral very quickly and then it was pulled. Gone. Rumor was that Mr. Swann was threatened and made the choice to spare himself and his career. Update: It’s gone again.”

BUT, it’s been found on Vimeo. Watch this report that Big Pharma doesn't want you to see.

I'm truly pissed. Back in the Mike Wallace days, 60 Minutes would have been all over this. Today, 60 Minutes is fully funded by Pfizer. They can't even touch this issue or they will lose their sponsor, Big Pharma.

Energy CEO Says Fracking Build-out in New York Not Over, Wants Regulators to 'Lay Down and Approve Every Pipeline'

“We're not giving up,” Phillips said at Marcellus Midstream 2018. “I had a chance when I sold my salt business in New York in December, I sold that for $225 million. I had a chance to walk away from the propane storage project and the permit. I didn't do it. I kept the permit. I'm gonna keep it for years. And we're gonna keep just plodding along. And eventually we think economics will dictate a changing approach by the regulators or the governor in New York.”

Seneff: “Zen Honeycutt has written a powerful commentary on the ridiculous power of a judge to render ineffective a California law that should help citizens stay informed about the dangers of glyphosate.”

Judge Says Public Doesn’t Need Cancer Warning Label

February 27, 2018-- Today a CA Federal Judge ruled that the public does not need a warning label to inform us that cancer-causing and harmful chemicals in glyphosate herbicides are in our food or products, temporarily relieving manufacturers from the responsibility of being honest with their customers. At a time when more and more American families are struggling with diseases and their high cost, one man decided that it was an injustice to the chemical companies to have to tell us about the presence of their chemicals.

Senior United States District Judge William B. Shubb released his ruling regarding the case of Wheat Growers and Monsanto against the California Environmental Protection Agency (CA EPA), Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and the CA Attorney General to remove glyphosate, the declared active chemical ingredient in Roundup, the most widely used herbicide in the world, from the CA Prop 65 carcinogen list, a law approved by California voters by ballot initiative in 1986.

The Judge ruled that OEHHA can keep glyphosate on the Prop 65 carcinogen list but the manufacturers such as Monsanto and food producers will not have to label their products with a warning label. Normally, the law states that products containing chemicals on the list, above a certain level, must label their products within a year from the listing. The label would state, “WARNING this product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm.” The temporary preliminary injunction granted by the judge halts the impending labeling by manufacturers of products and foods containing glyphosate and allows them to not inform their customers of this fact... that glyphosate has been found to cause cancer in animals and to be a probable human carcinogen.

The result is that OEHHA acknowledges glyphosate-containing products can cause cancer, but can not require the manufacturers of such products to warn consumers because it could negatively affect corporate profits.

This one Judge, one man, who could not even pronounce “glyphosate” at the beginning of the hour long hearing, has just changed the law and effectively hidden the known cancer-causing effects of glyphosate from not only Californians, but from an entire nation looking to California to lead the way in health regulations.

One must ask....why doesn’t this Judge want you to know what you are eating? Why wouldn’t he think it wise to inform the public that cancer causing chemicals are in our food? Is it not a matter of public interest that the chemicals in this herbicide, itself an antibiotic by patent, has been proven to be neurotoxic, genotoxic, endocrine disruptors, which can lead to mental illness and increasing depression and acts of violence, are in our children’s peanut butter sandwich? Why aren’t couples with infertility being told that the wheat snacks they are eating are likely keeping them from getting pregnant? Why aren’t parents allowed to know that the non organic orange juice and oatmeal they are giving their baby or the hummus that they eat for lunch contains high levels of glyphosate herbicide which has been proven at ultra low levels to cause nonalcoholic fatty liver disease?

The answer appears to be that the Judge did not consider the evidence before him. He stated that “on the evidence before the court the required warning for glyphosate does not prove to be accurate and uncontroversial” citing that “almost all other agencies have proven that glyphosate is not carcinogenic.” This is simply untrue. Health and regulatory agencies of Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Denmark, El Salvador, England, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland and six Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman have issued outright bans on glyphosate, imposed restrictions or have issued statements of intention to ban or restrict glyphosate-based herbicides, including Roundup, over health concerns and the ongoing Roundup cancer litigation.

Moms Across America and the National Health Federation with Tipps & Associates, filed an Amicus brief, filled with evidence which does not appear to have been considered.

The Feb 26, 2018 OEHHA Prop 65 ruling clearly panders to the chemical company, Monsanto, who argued that the listing and labeling of their products would lead to “irreparable harm” because public and private “enforcers” would sue, causing them to lose vast amounts of resources and loss of sales. What about the irreparable harm to Mary, California mother of two, whose father and son were both exposed to Roundup during backyard garden use, and both contracted non-Hodgkin Lymphoma? What about the irreparable harm to the mothers who spoke up at the Monsanto Tribunal whose sons were undergoing more than 60 surgeries for birth defects which were linked to exposure to glyphosate herbicide during their pregnancy? What about the irreparable harm to our nation due to the health issues and skyrocketing health care costs which have been connected to glyphosate herbicides?

Did the Judge consider the evidence of the collusion between Monsanto and EPA employees to cover up the carcinogenicity of glyphosate from the public? Or did he ignore the ghost writing, manipulation of science and lack of safety of the final formulation of glyphosate herbicides?

The impact of this ruling is that, unless further legal action is taken, consumers will not see warning labels on food- informing them that they contain cancer-causing glyphosate herbicide. Activists and non-profit organizations that have been testing food items for glyphosate, will not be able to hold food companies accountable and sue on the grounds of not labeling their products. Consumers will not see a label on Roundup, warning them of cancer-causing chemicals within the products and they will continue to use Roundup where their children, grandchildren, and pets play.

This ruling magnifies an enormous problem within our government. We elect politicians into office and expect them to protect us, and they don’t. In addition, Judges are appointed by our elected officials, and the opinion of that one person can supersede the law of an entire state or nation. This Judge, appointed by President Bush in 1990, did not display any knowledge of the effects of this chemical or the process in which a chemical is listed as a carcinogen. When he asked if the chemical was harmful the lawyer on the OEHHA side did not give a sufficient response. Monsanto’s lawyer argued vehemently that the carcinogenic issue was contested and the decision of one agency should not require them to “falsely” label their products. Clearly, all Monsanto had to do was instill doubt regarding the harmful effects of the chemical in order to win their case.

OEHHA’s Sam Delson commented on the case, “While the court granted the request for a preliminary injunction regarding the warning requirement, the court denied the request for a preliminary injunction on the listing itself. The court stated, “plaintiffs have not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of their claim that the listing of glyphosate violates the First Amendment…” We are pleased that the listing of glyphosate remains in effect, and we believe our actions were lawful. We have not decided whether to appeal the ruling.”

Once again, big corporations have influenced the policies of our regulatory agencies and are getting away with hiding the truth about harmful chemicals and our food supply. Once again, activists wonder what it will take to have justice in our country, safe food, and a nation we can be proud of. Clearly, if we wait for our government to do the right thing we will be waiting forever. The answer continues to is up to consumers to get informed, to test even more, share information, and refuse to buy products which contain harmful chemicals and stop supporting a system of corruption and poison.

Performance-driven culture is ruining scientific research

Academia is a highly incentivised game, and there are great rewards for playing it well: comfortable salaries for those at the top, guaranteed employment for those in the faculty, high-profile appointments, press coverage, shiny medals named after dead scientists and opulent robes to dress up in at graduation. In other words: money, fame and prestige.

I worry that the KPI-driven impact culture increasingly means that careful, meticulous and incremental science is anathema in the academy, especially for those at the early stages of their careers. There are many who are so attracted by the prospect of success that they are willing to obfuscate, mystify and perhaps falsify research to game the system and reap the plentiful rewards.

Most of all, I worry that instead of working towards an enlightened future, many are simply selling farmed cobras and calling it progress.

2012 - French court finds Monsanto guilty

...Although scientific evidence on the health impacts of pesticides has been around for many years — and continues to accumulate — court decisions like this one are a rare victory for farmers and eaters.

Broken U.S. policies prevent such liability

In the United States, such an outcome is near-impossible. Current federal pesticide policies put the onus of responsibility on farmers, workers and communities to prove causation of harm, rather than on pesticide producers to prove that their products are safe.

As one farmer who recovered from prostate cancer told a Washington Post reporter, proving health effects of exposure to pesticides over time is the equivalent of “lying on a bed of thorns and trying to say which one cut you."

Pesticide corporations have played a powerful role in shaping industry-friendly U.S. policies over the years. From its inception in 1947, our federal pesticide law (the Federal Insecticide Fungicide Rodenticide Act - FIFRA) has been a labeling law with next-to-no exercisable enforcement authority. It specifically protects pesticide corporations from being held legally liable for damages caused by their products, once their products have been registered for use...

California Court Ruling Ends Decades of State Pesticide Spraying

"Now California must ensure these pesticides aren't harming our water supplies and imperiled species like salmon," said Jonathan Evans, environmental health legal director at the Center for Biological Diversity. "This ruling affirms that people should have a voice in pesticide use in their neighborhoods."

LA Times - Judge orders California agricultural officials to cease pesticide use

Seneff: “Excellent article on golden rice and its continuing failures.”

Golden Rice – A Supreme Hoax, Part of A Supreme Crime

Night blindness resulting from vitamin A deficiency has one and only one cause: Corporate agriculture destroys food production, drives people off their land, requires them to use money it denies them the ability to get, and leaves them to sicken and starve. Golden rice, like every other technological solution, every other alleged “silver bullet”, represents no alternative to this hunger-mongering paradigm. On the contrary golden rice, and GMOs as such, represent nothing but the escalation of this destructive system. GMOs stand for nothing but disease, hunger, starvation, famine. They’re designed to make all of these worse. This design is intentional. And in this case the effect is 100% predictable.

A scientist’s journey from devout GMO believer to skeptic - 2014

What led you to become skeptical about GM foods?

Martineau: The major incident was when the FDA asked us whether we were sure that only the DNA we intended to insert into the tomato’s DNA was actually inserted. After we answered “yes” they asked us to carry out the experiments that would demonstrate that that was indeed the case. In fact, the experiments showed that in 30% of the tomato plants, sometimes more, much more DNA—DNA that was not well characterized and usually contained an additional antibiotic resistance gene—was inserted into our plants.

The Calgene scientists weren’t aware how this added DNA got into the tomatoes?

Belinda Martineau, Ph.D. was a genetic engineer who helped develop the world’s first commercially available genetically engineered whole food, the Flavr Savr™ tomato. But during the development of that tomato, she says “was transformed from a devout believer in the promise of agricultural biotechnology into a skeptic wary of its uncertainties.”

Martineau: We did not expect the additional DNA to be inserted and, as far as I know, scientists still haven’t figured out how to avoid this from happening.

There has been one case of a GM crop plant, called Bt10, which contained such extra DNA, including a gene conferring resistance to the antibiotic ampicillin. Fortunately, the crop developer pulled the product from the market.

What are other risks do you see with genetic engineering of foods?

Martineau: There can be risks associated with the genes being inserted. For example, the gene inserted into StarLink corn failed multiple tests designed to determine whether it could be a human allergen. The FDA and Center for Disease Control were worried enough about StarLink corn’s possible allergenicity that the US corn crop was monitored for the presence of that GM corn for seven years after it was taken off the market. The gene in another GM corn crop, Bt176, was found to present a much higher risk to Monarch butterfly larvae than other Bt corn crops.

There are also risks associated with the fact that genetic engineers have no control over where in a plant’s DNA their gene will land and they often land in another gene, mutating that gene. Unexpected changes can occur in GM plants as a result of such unintended insertions–and other possible mutations.

Latham: “So you don't need to read the paper: We are not protected by our chemical regulations against neurotoxic industrial chemicals say researchers who worry about the unexplained epidemic of neurological illnesses.”

Consensus statement on the need for innovation, transition and implementation of developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) testing for regulatory purposes.

Abstract: This consensus statement voices the agreement of scientific stakeholders from regulatory agencies, academia and industry that a new framework needs adopting for assessment of chemicals with the potential to disrupt brain development. An increased prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders in children has been observed that cannot solely be explained by genetics and recently pre- and postnatal exposure to environmental chemicals has been suspected as a causal factor. There is only very limited information on neurodevelopmental toxicity, leaving thousands of chemicals, that are present in the environment, with high uncertainty concerning their developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) potential. Closing this data gap with the current test guideline approach is not feasible, because the in vivo bioassays are far too resource-intensive concerning time, money and number of animals. A variety of in vitro methods are now available, that have the potential to close this data gap by permitting mode-of-action-based DNT testing employing human stem cells-derived neuronal/glial models. In vitro DNT data together with in silico approaches will in the future allow development of predictive models for DNT effects. The ultimate application goals of these new approach methods for DNT testing are their usage for different regulatory purposes.

Total ban on bee-harming pesticides likely after major new EU analysis

Jose Tarazona, head of Efsa’s pesticides unit, said: “The availability of such a substantial amount of data has enabled us to produce very detailed conclusions. There is variability in the conclusions [and] some low risks have been identified, but overall the risk to the three types of bees we have assessed is confirmed.”

The Efsa assessment includes bumblebees and solitary bees for the first time. It also identified that high risk to bees comes not from neonicotinoid use on non-flowering crops such as wheat, but from wider contamination of the soil and water which leads to the pesticides appearing in wildflowers or succeeding crops. A recent study of honey samples revealed global contamination by neonicotinoids.

There has been strong evidence that neonicotinoids harm individual bees for some years but this has strengthened in the last year recently to show damage to colonies of bees. Other research has also revealed that 75% of all flying insects have disappeared in Germany and probably much further afield, prompting warnings of “ecological armageddon”.

Seneff: “Good article to help inform you on which foods might be contaminated with glyphosate. Easier to just eat 100% organic than to try to stay away from all these foods!”

DOZENS of Food Crops Treated with Pre-Harvest Roundup (it’s not just wheat!)

Ubiquitous in food production, glyphosate is used not just with row crops like corn, soybeans and wheat but also a range of fruits, nuts and veggies. Even spinach growers use glyphosate (3).

EU to approve ‘marriage made in hell’ between Bayer & Monsanto

Pharmaceuticals giant Bayer agreed to acquire GMO maker Monsanto two years ago. It vowed not to take advantage of its own reputation to forcefully introduce genetically modified crops to Europe against consumers’ will. Monsanto has a longstanding notorious reputation dating back to its production of Agent Orange used by the US military during the Vietnam War.

Hundreds of Grocery Stores Say “No” to GMO Salmon—Will Yours?

The Good News

Consumers are rejecting this experimental fish—only 35 percent of Americans would try it—so many retailers are publicly refusing to carry it. Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target, Kroger, Costco, Safeway, Albertsons, Aldi, and more than 60 other chains (over 11,000 stores in total) have all promised not to sell AquAdvantage salmon. Notably, one of the most successful petitions to keep GMO salmon out of grocery stores started right here in Washington State.

This is an excellent reminder of the power you have as a consumer. When you vote with your dollars, even the biggest companies listen!

The Precautionary Principle Asks "How Much Harm Is Avoidable?" Rather Than "How Much Harm Is Acceptable?"

In 1980, a government scientist discovered that breast milk in the US was so contaminated with DDT, PCBs and other industrial poisons that, if it were cow's milk, it would be subject to ban by the US Food and Drug Administration. After two more decades of failed "chemical regulation," a 2001 study showed that babies everywhere in the world were drinking industrial toxicants in breast milk. Worse, in 2005 a small study of the umbilical cord blood from 10 randomly chosen newborns in the US showed that babies are now coming into this world "pre-polluted" with 200 industrial compounds…

Perhaps not surprisingly, in the US, children's health is deteriorating. The incidence of childhood cancers has risen 27 percent since 1974. In the 12 years between 1994 and 2006, childhood chronic conditions (asthma, obesity, learning and behavior problems) doubled (from 13 percent of all kids in 1994 to 27 percent in 2006).

Why Can't Chemical Pollution Be Controlled?

In 1991, scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory identified the reason why industrial poisons have spread everywhere, worldwide. It's because regulators have relied on a decision-making technique called quantitative (or numerical) risk assessment to determine which chemical releases are "safe." By releasing "safe" amounts of 80,000 different chemicals, corporations have contaminated the entire planet, so now no one is safe from chemical harm.

A numerical risk assessment is an estimate of the probability of something bad happening…

Why Corporate Polluters Can't Let Go of Risk Assessment

Corporate polluters love numerical risk assessment for many reasons.

Risk assessment is complex and mathematical, so most of the public can't understand it, much less challenge its conclusions. Therefore, risk assessment diminishes democratic participation and even undermines the legitimacy of government itself. By definition, people cannot give their informed consent to something they do not understand. Weaker government creates more wiggle room for corporate polluters.

Additionally, risk assessment is easily manipulated. Two groups of fully qualified risk assessors, given identical data, can reach wildly different estimates of risk. Therefore, numerical risk assessment fails the acid test of science -- reproducible results -- and does not qualify as "science" or "scientific." Risk assessment is a political art that uses some scientific data. As EPA administrator William Ruckelshaus wrote in 1984, "We should remember that risk assessment can be like the captured spy: If you torture it long enough, it will tell you anything you want to know."

Cornell Student Who Took on Bill Gates, Monsanto Plans to Expose Their Agenda Even Further in Blockbuster New Project

In 2016, Schooler let loose in an open letter to Gates and Cornell that went viral.

Sounding off on what he called a “blatant display of unscientific propaganda,” Schooler detailed his experiences in a 2015 course titled “The GMO Debate,” which was completely one-sided in favor of the Biotech industry.

Frustrated, he decided to launch his own series of campus lectures, inviting experts like Frances Moore Lappé, Vandana Shiva, and T. Colin Campbell, all authors with extensive research backgrounds in the field.

With his friends from the GMO WTF lecture series all expected to contribute, Schooler plans to expose the truth on topics including:

-GMO (and industrial) agriculture
-Monsanto (“and their pals” in the GMO industry)
-The current state of our universities (like Cornell)
-Academic freedom & scientific integrity
-Other similar topics including a new way forward

“This is going to be a very unique project… I just believe it has all gotten terribly out of hand and I’m worried that the students are being spoon-fed propaganda on a daily basis right here on campus,” he says in the video.

“I believe this GMO agriculture debate deserves a lot more nuance and a lot more attention and care than (Cornell and Gates have been) offering.”

Seneff: “Zen Honeycutt expresses a sentiment that I have been feeling for a long time: the people who are committing violent crimes like school shootouts nearly always live on a diet that's high in glyphosate-contaminated junk food. The best way to avoid school shootouts is to fix the diet.”

Could Toxic Food and Medications Be Contributing to School Shootings?

Studies show that many serial killers and criminals have one thing in common: they live on junk food. By Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America

There have been more than 1,600 mass shootings since Sandy Hook. This month’s massacre in Parkland, Florida was one of the worst. Each time I hear about another tragedy, I cannot help but wonder, what did the shooter eat? Was he on SSRIs or psychiatric drugs?

Barbara Stitt, the author of Food and Behavior: The Natural Connection, shared supporting evidence over a decade ago. Stitt discovered through interviewing parolees, serial killers and criminals that regardless of economic backgrounds they all had one thing in common: all of them bragged that they "lived on junk food." In America, tests show that the majority of our junk food—soda, pizza, burgers, ice cream, chips, cookies, highly processed prepared foods—contain GMOs and glyphosate.

Morin: What did your chemical rep say when you told him that you didn’t need his services anymore?

Zook: Well, that was an interesting summer. He used to come here every week telling me horror stories about all the diseases in the neighborhood. But, I had made up my made up my mind, “No mas.” He came back every week for eight weeks telling me what I needed to spray. I said, “I’m fine, thanks.” The last time he was here, we were out picking tomatoes and he walked over. He was looking around and talking about this and that, and he didn’t even mention pesticides. “Well,” he said, “your tomatoes look pretty good.” I thought, “Yes!”

EPA Considers Allowing Bee-Killing Pesticide to Be Sprayed on 165 Million Acres of U.S. Farmland - 2017

The proposal by the agrochemical giant Syngenta to dramatically escalate use of the harmful neonicotinoid pesticide came last Friday, on the same day the EPA released new assessments of the extensive dangers posed by neonicotinoids, including thiamethoxam.

"If the EPA grants Syngenta's wish, it will spur catastrophic declines of aquatic invertebrates and pollinator populations that are already in serious trouble," said Lori Ann Burd, director of the Center for Biological Diversity's environmental health program. "You know the pesticide-approval process is broken when the EPA announces it will consider expanding the use of this dangerous pesticide on the same day its own scientists reveal that the chemical kills birds and aquatic invertebrates."

Movements of Millions Say No to Gene Drives as Brazil Attempts to Legalize Genetic Extinction Technology

“Brazil is living a serious political, economic, social and environmental crisis, and transnational capital has supported a political coup. Within this context, the government is now changing laws and the Constitution to allow them to take over our natural resources. This decision from CTNBio is illegal, and would allow the dissemination of new transgenic seeds and living organisms without even minimal controls and assessments. We are not staying passive on these assaults, we will fight back against this resolution.”

Just disturbing…

Could WA be the genetic testing ground for 'synthetic mice' to end mice?

DARPA is candid about the "multiple capabilities" of this research, but says it is for defence more than offence - "biosafety and biosecurity tools".

Throughout its history, DARPA has partnered with agritech giant Monsanto to develop products ranging from chemical weapons (including Agent Orange) to robotic bees. DARPA itself began as a Cold War outfit conceived by industrial chemist Charles Thomas, Monsanto's president and chairman.

MIT microbial biologist Kevin Esvelt, who pioneered gene drives, reportedly said they are so risky that championing them for species eradication was "an embarrassing mistake". "Why should you trust a scientist," he asked the Melbourne forum, "who insists on doing work on this kind of technology in secret?"

Sales believes CSIRO and GBIRd are steeped in secrecy. "CSIRO and its GBIRd partners are already developing a gene drive in mice and have selected potential islands for its release. All without any public discussion," she says.
In May, according to an email obtained by Third World Network, DARPA asked GBIRd for "continued cooperation in holding off on media engagement … please politely decline" media enquiries and "refer the reporter to DARPA Public Affairs".

Approached about this article, a CSIRO spokesperson initially said it was "not suitable for us to comment" and emailed back a GBIRd statement which said it was "important to view the broader context".

"In the case of the mice on the island, if traditional methods are not feasible, such as the use of poison baits, are we willing to risk extinction of the seabirds?" it asked.

A Precautionary Tale: How One Small Town Banned Pesticides, Preserved Its Food Heritage, and Inspired a Movement

For organic farmers in the lower Vinschgau valley, the apple orchards proved to be a direct threat to their livelihood. The Gluderer family, for example, had built up a thriving organic herb business over many years. As orchards surrounded their farm, their herbs began to test positive for pesticides. They tried to block drift by growing giant hedges. However, neither the hedges, nor the orchard’s mandatory spray buffer zones were sufficient. As a last resort, the Gluderer family covered their herb beds with an enormous plastic greenhouse. Without its protection, their herbs were too contaminated to sell.

Their experience provided a clear warning to organic farmers in Mals.

Stephanie Seneff, a senior research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, suspects there is a link between increased uses of glyphosate — largely via the process of pre-harvest desiccation — and celiac disease, which has increased dramatically in recent years, particularly among adolescents. “Wheat-based products are showing up with a lot of glyphosate on them, and glyphosate interferes with protein digestion,” says Seneff (celiac disease is triggered by gluten, a protein).

Syngenta’s paid-for debates and coverage in the Evening Standard are part of a growing practice inside ESI Media which deliberately blurs the division between advertising and editorial content, senior inside sources have told openDemocracy.

As part of a wider investigation by openDemocracy into the commercial pressures now affecting Europe’s media, former executives, journalists, and other insiders at ESI described a culture where senior editors play a subservient role to commercial masters who effectively run ESI’s operations – with readers left in the dark about who pays for their news, and on what terms.

Fraudulent Organics Certifier to be Reinstated: Does USDA Care?

Sources at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) have told us that they are planning to recertify ETKO, a Turkish-based organic certifier. As we’ve reported previously, ETKO has been singled out by some countries, notably Canada and the European Union, for its fraudulent certifications. These countries have “decertified” the organization—meaning that they no longer accept ETKO-certified products as organic.

The USDA has had problems with ETKO as far back as 2009, but instead of decertifying this company, it actually reached a settlement agreement with them in 2016. The firm has been under audit by USDA for about a year.

Protect Your Pets from GMOs and Pesticides in Food

Our companion animals bring such joy and comfort to our lives. They are always there to greet us with a happy welcome home. Pets – like people – are suffering from unprecedented increased health risks including cancer and other debilitating diseases and disorders. Animal studies on animals fed genetically modified food have shown organ damage, potential pre-cancerous cell growth, damaged immune systems, allergies and more due to GM food. Switching to non-GMO and/or organic diets can help reduce the risk of health problems, assist our pets in recovery and support them to enjoy a longer life span . This website is a resource for pet owners to learn more about the health risks of GMOs and pesticides in pet food, and to provide information on healthier alternatives.

Monsanto says its pesticides are safe. Now, a court wants to see the proof by Carey Gillam, The Guardian, 5 Mar 2018

...This week’s events will mark the first time that the body of research, some that has been gathering dust in stuffy scientific journals or confidential corporate files, will be analyzed under oath for all to see.

Monsanto has tried to persuade US judge Vince Chhabria to throw out the litigation, and sought to keep secret the many internal documents it has been forced to turn over in discovery. But Chhabria has ordered that the hearing be video-recorded and shared publicly over the internet. And he has granted permission for plaintiffs to explore in open court such things as the ghostwriting of science as well as a controversial 1983 study that EPA scientists at the time said showed evidence of glyphosate’s cancer-causing potential.

The court has dubbed the 5-9 March events as “science week” because the only evidence to be presented will come from experts in cancer science, including epidemiologists, toxicologists and others called to analyze relevant research. There will be no crying cancer victims to tug on heart strings; just opposing sides presenting science to a judge who will decide if the lawsuits can move forward.

The public offering of expert testimony in San Francisco about Monsanto’s pervasive pesticide presents an important opportunity to separate the science from the spin. We all should be watching.

One country at a time.

Germany Will Phase Out Glyphosate Herbicides ”As Fast As Possible”

“We will develop alternatives jointly with the agricultural sector as part of an arable farming strategy which will regulate environmentally friendly and nature-compatible use of plant protection chemicals.”

Film showcasing dangers of GM crops and associated pesticides wins two international awards

The film discusses the risks to farming, the food supply and public health posed by GM crops and their associated pesticides. Among the interviewees featured in the film are the London-based molecular geneticist Dr Michael Antoniou, who states that the agrobiotech industry is "turning our food into a slow poison"; Steven Druker, public interest attorney and author of the book Altered Genes, Twisted Truth, which highlights the corruption of the US regulatory policy on GMOs; and GMWatch's Claire Robinson, who discusses the industry-orchestrated persecution of scientists whose work uncovers risks from these products.

People are not focusing on the real issue: that Congress is allowing all this.

Something is very wrong in the US because the majority of the population does not seem to care that they are being poisoned.

There are other similar cases everywhere we look. Some studies show that aspartame causes cancer, yet corporate money managed to get it into the common food supply. In the hospital where I work, they sell the patients and staff sodas laden with aspartame. In another case, the sugar industry influenced Harvard studies. Yet few people seem to care.

It’s a similar situation with GMOs and their associated pesticides. Industry and industry-friendly scientists conduct studies that say GM foods are safe. Yet some independent researchers have found opposite results. These independent researchers are attacked, fired, and even physically assaulted if they don't acquiesce. The Monsanto Papers appear to show that the company hired people to go after researchers.

A GMO Corn and Its Non-GMO Parent Are Not Substantially Equivalent

The findings disprove industry and regulatory agency claims that NK603 is “substantially equivalent” to its non-GMO counterpart.

Alteration in the protein profile of the GMO crop revealed by the proteomics analysis reflected oxidative stress (damage to cells and tissues by reactive oxygen) and an imbalance in energy utilization.

Arkansas judge dismisses Monsanto lawsuit on dicamba ban

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza dismissed the lawsuit by St. Louis-based Monsanto seeking to block the state Plant Board's decision to ban dicamba from April 16 through Oct. 31. Arkansas has the toughest restriction in place on dicamba, though several states have imposed other restrictions or requirements.

Cancer Claim for Monsanto's Roundup Gets Judge's Scrutiny

A federal judge is reviewing claims that the active ingredient in Monsanto's widely used weed killer Roundup can cause cancer.

Mrs. Lisa Oz

Dr. Oz’s wife, is the narrator of the documentary, “Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of our Lives.” Dr. Oz has said on his show in the past “When I go home, I’m not Dr. Oz, I’m Mr. Oz.” He was referring to vaccinations. He stated that although he gets an annual flu shot, Mrs. Oz runs the show at home. She does not vaccinate herself or her children. Surely Mrs. Oz wouldn’t have gmo corn oil on her dinner table, and Dr. Oz’s show is giving into pressure by advertisers.

IRT: “We realize Dr. Oz needs to sell ads, but this is not in line with the good he has done in the food movement. Corn oil?”

Audience Stunned as Dr. Oz Does a Complete 180, Promotes GMO Food Company on Popular TV Show

As arguably the most prominent and well known TV personality in the world of natural health, Dr. Mehmet Oz has gained a huge national following, promoting everything from natural weight loss supplements to healthy and unique foods.

Over the years he has even gained the trust of many in the organic and non-GMO food movement because of his powerful support for GMO labeling, a subject most other TV hosts and networks have never touched.

Unfortunately for the movement, however, it appears as if Dr. Oz has done a complete 180, forging a partnership with one of Big Food’s most ubiquitous GMO products for a recent segment — and the looks on the faces of his audience show just how shocking it was for everyone involved.

US researchers blame Russkies for anti-GMO media

Genetically engineered (GE) apples—the Arctic Apple— are being released in grocery stores without labels, but the company behind them, Intrexon, won’t tell us where.

Major companies – like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Gerber – have committed not to sell GE apples. So, Intrexon is banking on deceiving customers with unlabeled GE apples at the grocery store to make its sale goals.

What we do know?

The GE apple was created using an experimental, unregulated technique called RNA interference. Many scientists are concerned that this process may have negative unintended impacts on human health and the environment.

We do not need more risky and dangerous technologies in our food!

Intrexon is the same synthetic biology company that owns the GE salmon and GE mosquito. The company continues to unleash untested and poorly regulated technology into the environment without concern for the long-term impacts on the environment and human health.

Potential Trade Bill dispute sparks fears of Brexit 'power grab'

Scotland currently has a ban on growing GM crops, using its autonomy under EU law. SNP ministers would also want an EU ban on chlorinated chicken imports.

But after Brexit, there are fears the Conservative Government at Westminster may seek to allow GM crops, lower environmental protections and food standards, and allow unrestricted US agricultural imports in a bid to help strike a UK/US trade deal.

Millions say no to gene drives as Brazil attempts to legalize genetic extinction technology

Gene drives are a controversial new technology that uses CRISPR-Cas9 to spread a specific genetic trait through an entire species or population – in some cases with the purpose of driving species to extinction. Current gene drives experiments have been conducted on insects, rodents and plants. If the inserted genetic trait results in only male offspring, as is being attempted for rodents and mosquitoes, a full wild population or even a species could go extinct. As far as is known, gene drives have never been released into the environment anywhere in the world.[3]

“Gene drives organisms pose unique threats to nature and livelihoods”, says Silvia Ribeiro, Latin America Director for ETC Group. “It is the first time that the biotech industry has intentionally designed GMOs to spread aggressively in the natural environment and contaminate wild species. It seems surreal that a decision to impose such great dangers to a mega diverse country such Brazil would be taken by a small technical commission, without even involvement of either Congress or civil society.”

Australia, New Zealand approval of GM rice questioned

"It is self-evident that food products with no history of safe use must be subjected to the highest standards of risk assessment before the most vulnerable groups of the population are exposed to it. However, no toxicological studies were performed with the rice. In the light of the humanitarian claims made in the context of GR2, it is surprising that this application is not based on a full set of data to establish high safety standards," the Testbiotech report said.

Testbiotech executive director Christoph Then warns that FSANZ’s decision to approve the application may influence countries that are either field testing or importing GM rice. "The assessment of FSANZ might be used in the countries to claim food safety to get quicker approval," Then tells SciDev.Net.

Spinning Science & Silencing Scientists: A Case Study in How the Chemical Industry Attempts to Influence Science

In March 2015, the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), based in Lyon, France, released a hazard assessment that found glyphosate to be “probably carcinogenic to humans.” In December 2017, the EPA released a draft human health risk assessment that concluded, “glyphosate is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans.” There are significant differences between these two types of assessments because they attempt to evaluate different questions. According to IARC, “A cancer ‘hazard’ is an agent that is capable of causing cancer under some circumstances, while a cancer ‘risk’ is an estimate of the carcinogenic effects expected from exposure to a cancer hazard.” As more scientific data is gathered and analyzed to more fully understand the impacts of glyphosate on human health, it is important for the science to lead the way, and for industry and politicians to remain on the sidelines. But that has not happened. There is significant evidence that Monsanto launched a disinformation campaign to undermine IARC’s classification of glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. A multi-district litigation court case against Monsanto regarding potential adverse health consequences of exposures to glyphosate has revealed hundreds of pages of internal Monsanto e-mails, memorandums, and other records that clearly show Monsanto engaged in a decades-long concerted effort to fend off any evidence suggesting potential adverse human health effects from glyphosate and more recently to undermine IARC’s findings. They ghost wrote scientific articles on glyphosate, established front groups to help amplify their anti-IARC message and scientific evidence they did not like, and they attempted to silence scientists who reached conclusions questioning glyphosate’s safety.

“Avaaz beat Monsanto in Europe and in Argentina, and so they’re coming after us in US courts. Monsanto is infamous for its corporate bullying, but this time they’ve picked a fight with a movement of nearly 50 million people who are going to fight back.

“Imagine a world where any time you called on your government to regulate a corporation because science showed its products could be making people sick, that corporation could force you to reveal everything you and your friends had ever privately written or said about them. That is the world Monsanto is hoping to create.

“There are millions of people around the world who have a deep and genuine concern that Monsanto’s glyphosate is making us and our environment sick. Glyphosate and GM crops are harming no-till soils

Magazine dedicated to promoting GM crops and glyphosate herbicides in no-till systems recommends reducing the use of these products

Kremer told attendees at the National No-Tillage Conference earlier this year, “This is all supported by research. I’m not just making this up. With that amount of glyphosate out there, it’s beginning to raise some eyebrows and people are wondering what else might be happening with this amount of chemical in the environment.”

Success of GM mozzie project queried by Cayman mosquito research unit

It seemed that while the former MRCU director, Dr Bill Petrie, had recommended the national roll-out, other scientists at the department had concerns about how successful the West Bay pilot had been. Following Petrie’s departure from the unit last summer and after mixed messages from government to their private sector partners, the planned island-wide roll-out was shelved by the ministry and the MRCU.

Dicamba Drift Could Put 60 Million Acres of Monarch Habitat at Risk

There's now another reason to worry about the controversial chemical. It's particularly harmful to milkweed, the only host plant for the iconic and already at-risk monarch buttery.

In a new report publisehd Thursday, researchers with the Center for Biological Diversity warn that the expanded use of dicamba, which is projected to increase by nearly 100-fold on cotton and soybean fields, will put more than 60 million acres of monarch habitat at risk by 2019.

And this is why there is a global movement to end the use of these crops and their chemicals. Do your own at home science experiment. Eat organic for a week and watch what happens.

Have you been wondering if GMOs are dangerous to your health?

If you are, you’re not alone. In 2013, 75% of people polled by The New York Times expressed concern about GMOs, particularly the health risks. More and more research reveals you have good reason to be concerned.

A peer-reviewed article, published TODAY, November 7, 2017, in the International Journal of Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, demonstrates that GMOs are likely taking a heavy toll on our health. And a survey of 3,256 people who avoided them reported astonishing improvements in 28 health conditions.

Monsanto mouthpieces: House Science Committee, EPA, EU-EFSA

Below I untangle some of the most oft-spouted false or manipulative claims of the chemical industry, using the IARC and EPA glyphosate assessments as a case study.

-False: IARC is an extreme organization that says everything causes cancer
-The Truth: Only about 20% of substances examined by IARC have been classified as known or probable human carcinogens.

-False: The dose makes the poison, so things at low doses are safe even if they are toxic at high doses
-The Truth: This statement—a favorite of chemical industry consultants and lobbyists—is about 500 years out of date.

-False Claim: Tumors in rodents in the high-dose treatment group shouldn’t count as evidence of cancer risk
-The Truth: Tumors in the high dose group predict cancer risks at lower doses

-False Claim: EPA followed international standards and best practices for study evaluation and data integration (systematic review)
-The Truth: EPA and EFSA followed the agrochemical industry recommendations, which led to disregarding evidence that glyphosate may cause cancer

India: Farmers welcome move to restrict glyphosate use

“Firstly, the poison that we are putting into our soil will also enter our food chain and glyphosate has also been identified by WHO as a possible carcinogenic. Secondly, increasing use of weedicide is also damaging to farmers in the longer run. The weedicide is meant to kill vegetation and this makes it harmful to agriculture. Because, you keep the soil alive and the microbes alive. Different vegetative matters actually enrich the soil fertility.”

GM maize approved in the EU caused kidney disease and bladder stones in rats

A Monsanto genetically modified (GMO) insecticidal maize that has been approved for food and feed use in Europe for seven years was found to cause kidney disease and bladder stones in rats in industry’s own tests. Before the maize was approved, several EU member states raised concerns about these results and the implications for food safety. But the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) dismissed the concerns and gave a favourable opinion on the GMO maize.[1] With the usual lack of agreement from EU member states on whether to authorize the maize, the Commission approved[2] it in 2011.

"The evidence shows that, rather than protecting farmers and the public interest, government officials rushed this pesticide to market without the rigorous analysis and data the law requires," said George Kimbrell, a lawyer with the Center for Food Safety, in a press release. "There was good reason that decision had such devastating consequences last year: it was illegal."

Facts and Fallacies in the Debate on Glyphosate Toxicity (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health):

"The safety profile of the herbicide glyphosate and its commercial formulations is controversial. Reviews have been published by individuals who are consultants and employees of companies commercializing glyphosate-based herbicides in support of glyphosate’s reapproval by regulatory agencies. These authors conclude that glyphosate is safe at levels below regulatory permissible limits.

In contrast, reviews conducted by academic scientists independent of industry report toxic effects below regulatory limits, as well as shortcomings of the current regulatory evaluation of risks associated with glyphosate exposures.

Two authors in particular (Samsel and Seneff) have published a series of commentaries proposing that long-term exposure to glyphosate is responsible for many chronic diseases (including cancers, diabetes, neuropathies, obesity, asthma, infections, osteoporosis, infertility, and birth defects).

The aim of this review is to examine the evidential basis for these claimed negative health effects and the mechanisms that are alleged to be at their basis. We found that these authors inappropriately employ a deductive reasoning approach based on syllogism.

We found that their conclusions are not supported by the available scientific evidence. Thus, the mechanisms and vast range of conditions proposed to result from glyphosate toxicity presented by Samsel and Seneff in their commentaries are at best unsubstantiated theories, speculations, or simply incorrect. This misrepresentation of glyphosate’s toxicity misleads the public, the scientific community, and regulators.

Although evidence exists that glyphosate-based herbicides are toxic below regulatory set safety limits, the arguments of Samsel and Seneff largely serve to distract rather than to give a rational direction to much needed future research investigating the toxicity of these pesticides, especially at levels of ingestion that are typical for human populations."

FACT: Our current agricultural system uses taxpayer money to subsidize the planting of GMOs, while organic farmers are required to pay fees for “certification.”

CONFIRMED: DNA From Genetically Modified Crops Can Be Transferred Into Humans Who Eat Them

In a new study published in the peer reviewed Public Library of Science (PLOS), researchers emphasize that there is sufficient evidence that meal-derived DNA fragments carry complete genes that can enter into the human circulation system through an unknown mechanism. (0) I wonder if the scientists at these biotech corporations have already identified this method?

In one of the blood samples the relative concentration of plant DNA is higher than the human DNA. The study was based on the analysis of over 1000 human samples from four independent studies. PLOS is an open access, well respected peer-reviewed scientific journal that covers primary research from disciplines within science and medicine. It’s great to see this study published in it, confirming what many have been suspecting for years.

When it comes to genetically modified crops and foods, we really have no idea of what the long term effects will be on the public. The very first commercial sale of genetically modified foods was only twenty years ago in the year 1994.

There is no possible way that our health authorities can test all possible combinations on a large enough population, over a long enough period of time to be able to say with certainty that they are harmless.

Geneticist David Suzuki recently expressed his concern, saying that human beings are part of a “massive genetic experiment” over many years, as thousands of people continue to consume GMO’s, and it makes sense.

Advances in genome science over the past few years have revealed that organisms can share their genes. Prior to this, it had been thought that genes were shared only between individual members of a species through reproduction.

Geneticists usually followed the inheritance of genes in what they would call a ‘vertical’ fashion, such as breeding a male and female -you follow their offspring and continue down the road from there. Today, scientists recognize that genes are shared not only among the individual members of a species, but also among members of different species.

“Our bloodstream is considered to be an environment well separated from the outside world and the digestive tract. According to the standard paradigm large macromolecules consumed with food cannot pass directly to the circulatory system.

During digestion proteins and DNA are thought to be degraded into small constituents, amino acids and nucleic acids, respectively, and then absorbed by a complex active process and distributed to various parts of the body through the circulation system.

Here, based on the analysis of over 1000 human samples from four independent studies, we report evidence that meal-derived DNA fragments which are large enough to carry complete genes can avoid degradation and through an unknown mechanism enter the human circulation system.

In one of the blood samples the relative concentration of plant DNA is higher than the human DNA. The plant DNA concentration shows a surprisingly precise log-normal distribution in the plasma samples while non-plasma (cord blood) control sample was found to be free of plant DNA.” (0)

It’s not like a human being mates with an apple, banana or a carrot plant and exchanges genes. What biotechnology and biotech corporations like Monsanto have done, is they have allowed for the transfer of genes from one to the other without any regard for the biological limitations, or constraints. The problem with this is that it is based on very bad science.

The conditions and biological ‘rules’ that apply to vertical gene transfer, at least those that we are aware of, do not necessarily apply to horizontal gene transfer. Biotech science today is based on the assumption that the principles governing the inheritance of genes are the same when we move genes horizontally as they are when they are moved vertically. It just goes to show that GMO’s should be subjected to much more experimentation and rigorous research before we continue to consume them.

How can our governing health authorities approve these as safe? It’s almost as if they told us they were safe, and we just believed them without questioning it. We seem to be a very gullible race, but things are changing and more are starting to question the world around them.

“One small mutation in a human being can determine so much, the point is when you move a gene, one gene, one tiny gene out of an organism into a different one you completely change its context. There is no way to predict how it’s going to behave and what the outcome will be. We think that we design these life forms, but it’s like taking the Toronto orchestra prepared to play a Beethoven symphony and then you take some random drummers from “here” and flip them in with the Toronto symphony and you say play music. What comes out is going to be something very very different. Publicists say that there is good intention behind GMOs, but the fact of the matter is it’s driven by money.” – David Suzuki

I personally believe the intentions go beyond money, but that’s another story.

It’s also pretty clear that DNA from food can and does end up in animal tissues and the milk products that people eat. (4)(5)

There are studies that show when humans or animals digest genetically modified foods, the artificially created genes transfer into and alter the character of the beneficial bacteria in the intestine. Researchers report that microbes found in the small bowel of people with ilestomy are capable of acquiring and harboring DNA sequences from GM plants.
(1) Genetically modified crops have infiltrated animal feed since 1996, and it’s normal for them to have a complete GM diet. Studies have linked GMO animal feed to severe stomach inflammation and enlarged uteri in pigs.

It’s also important to note that gene transfer among genetically engineered agricultural crops and surrounding native species has given rise to a highly resistant species called super weeds. According to the world health organization, gene transfer and the movement of genes from GM plants into conventional crops or related species may have an effect on food safety and food security.

“This risk is real, as was shown when traces of maize type which was only approved for feed use appeared in maize products from human consumption in the United States.” (3)

The truth is, genetic engineers have never taken the reality of gene transfer into consideration when they produce these things and introduce them into the environment. As a result, we are now starting to see the consequences of genes that are engineered, particularly how they spread and alter other organisms in various environments.

Watrud et al (2004) found that the herbicide-resistance transgene spread via pollen to an area up to 21 km beyond the control area perimeter and had pollinated wild creeping bentgrass.(2)

Prior to this year, governments concluded that transfer of DNA from GM crops/foods is unlikely to occur. Now we can see that they are wrong, or perhaps they had knowledge of this already? Regardless of the fact that DNA from GM foods can be transferred to humans and animals, very little is still known today and what is known does not look good. There are studies linking GMO’s and pesticides to various ailments.
We’ve presented and written about them on our website numerous times, this is another article to add to the growing amount of evidence to suggest we need to halt the production of GMO’s until we conclusively know that they are safe for human consumption.

It’s not a mystery why most countries around the world have completely banned GMO’s.

Farmers vs. Monsanto: Glyphosate Showdown Comes to U.S. Court in San Francisco

Get ready for a huge week in federal court in San Francisco where expert witnesses will face off on the science surrounding glyphosate, the world’s most widely used pesticide.

The outcome of the hearing, determined by U.S. Judge Vince Chhabria, will establish whether farmers and their families can proceed with legal action against Monsanto Co. over cancer concerns.

March 5-9 is being dubbed “science week” as the only evidence the plaintiff and defense legal teams will present is evidence that will be provided by experts in cancer science (see list below). According to the law firm Baum, Hedlund, Aristei and Golman, “the plaintiffs must demonstrate that they have scientific evidence to back their claims that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, causes non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).”

EU’s GMO Regulator Ignored Human Health Warnings Over a Monsanto Insecticidal Corn by Claire Robinson

A Monsanto genetically modified (GMO) maize, called MON89034, caused kidney disease and bladder stones in rats in industry tests performed in 2007. Several EU member states, including Germany, Belgium, Austria, and France, independently raised concerns about these results during the EU’s standard three-month regulatory consultation process. But the central GMO regulator of the EU, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), issued a favourable opinion on MON89034 regardless.[1] With the usual lack of agreement from EU member states on whether to authorize the maize, the EU Commission subsequently approved MON89034 for human consumption in 2011.[2]

MON89034 has since been crossed with other GM maize varieties to form “stacked” GM crops containing multiple GM traits. As each newly stacked GMO trait involving MON89034 has come up for approval, member states have continued to draw attention to the original adverse health impacts in the rats fed MON89034.

The German experts, from the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), recommended that Monsanto be required to carry out an additional two-generation study with the maize to test for long-term health effects. But EFSA responded that it saw “no reason to request additional feeding studies”.[5]

Austria also voiced concerns about the kidney and bladder findings, as did the experts from Belgium’s Biosafety Advisory Council. The Belgian experts focused on an additional worrying finding: a low thyroid/parathyroid weight relative to final body weight was found in this same group of female rats fed a 33% GM maize diet. Referring to the whole roster of effects in the GM-fed rats, Belgium recommended having “a closer look” to see “whether these findings are solely due to chance. In case any doubt remains, further testing is recommended.”[5]

"The results showed that Russia Today, recently rebranded as and considered a propaganda site, accounted for 34 percent of GMO-related articles."

"Nearly half of Americans still believe the science behind genetic engineering remains unsettled despite decades of safety studies showing no concern."

"We just need to recognize what they are and penalize the groups that collaborate with them."

Tap water in Illinois is polluted with high levels of nitrate from the GMO corn belt

The problem is mainly due to agricultural runoff that ends up polluting the communities’ water supplies. According to Soren Rundquist, the director of spatial analysis at EWG and author of the report, nitrate from fertilizers and manure typically run off of farm fields and wind up into groundwater aquifers that are connected to many northwest Illinois communities. “Families in northwest Illinois and throughout the Corn Belt are potentially at risk from agricultural runoff contaminating drinking water supplies,” he explained. “Small communities that depend on groundwater may face crippling costs to build new systems that remove nitrate.”

We found that > 90% of pregnant women had detectable GLY levels and that these levels correlated significantly with shortened pregnancy lengths. Although our study cohort was small and regional and had limited racial/ethnic diversity, it provides direct evidence of maternal GLY exposure and a significant correlation with shortened pregnancy. Further investigations in a more geographically and racially diverse cohort would be necessary before these findings could be generalized.

Seneff: “Nice to see someone else talking about a link between glyphosate and autism. Peter Good is an expert on autism.”

Evidence the U.S. autism epidemic initiated by acetaminophen (Tylenol) is aggravated by oral antibiotic amoxicillin/clavulanate (Augmentin) and now exponentially by herbicide glyphosate (Roundup)

Because certain hereditary diseases show autistic behavior, and autism often runs in families, researchers seek genes underlying the pathophysiology of autism, thus core behaviors. Other researchers argue environmental factors are decisive, citing compelling evidence of an autism epidemic in the United States beginning about 1980. Recognition that environmental factors influence gene expression led to synthesis of these views – an ‘epigenetic epidemic’ provoked by pervasive environmental agents altering expression of vulnerable genes, inducing characteristic autistic biochemistries in many mothers and infants. Two toxins most implicated in the U.S. autism epidemic are analgesic/antipyretic acetaminophen (Tylenol) and oral antibiotic amoxicillin/clavulanate (Augmentin). Recently herbicide glyphosate (Roundup) was exponentially implicated.

What do these toxins have in common? Acetaminophen depletes sulfate and glutathione required to detoxify it. Oral antibiotics kill and glyphosate inhibits intestinal bacteria that synthesize methionine (precursor of sulfate and glutathione, and required to methylate DNA), bacteria that synthesize tryptophan (sole precursor of neuroinhibitor serotonin), and bacteria that restrain ammonia-generating anaerobes. Sulfate plus glutathione normally sulfate fetal adrenal androgen dehydroepiandrosterone to DHEAS – major precursor of placental/postnatal estrogens. Glyphosate (and heavy metals) also inhibit aromatase that turns androgens to estrogens. Placental/postnatal estrogens dehydrate/mature brain myelin sheaths, mature corpus callosum and left hemisphere preferentially, dilate brain blood vessels, and elevate brain serotonin and oxytocin. Stress-induced weak androgens and estrogen depletion coherently explain white matter asymmetry and dysconnection in autism, extreme male brain, low brain blood flow, hyperexcitability, social anxiety, and insufficient maternal oxytocin at birth to limit fetal brain chloride/water and mature GABA.

EPA Considers Allowing Bee-Killing Pesticide to Be Sprayed on 165 Million Acres of U.S. Farmland

A GMO Corn and Its Non-GMO Parent Are Not Substantially Equivalent

The findings of this study disprove industry and regulatory agency claims that NK603 is “substantially equivalent” to its non-GMO counterpart. They suggest that a more thorough evaluation of the safety of consuming products derived from this GMO corn on a long-term basis should be undertaken.

Organic Grains Take Center Stage in Anheuser-Busch’s Latest Light Beer

Michelob Ultra Pure Gold is the brewer’s biggest push into the organic market.

“Our research has confirmed that organic ingredients are important to
consumers—especially those who prioritize living an active, balanced lifestyle,”
Azania Andrews, Vice President, Michelob Ultra, told us. “More and more we’re seeing
that people want to know what ingredients make up the products they enjoy, and
they work hard to try and incorporate organically-sourced food and beverages into
their daily lifestyle.”

Beyond touting the organic angle, Michelob Ultra also boasts that Pure Gold is
free from artificial colors and flavorings and that the brand’s sustainability
efforts also include the packaging which received the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
stamp of approval. As for the grains themselves, Andrews explained that
they are all sourced from within the United States, including organic rice
grown in Texas and milled in Louisiana, and organic malts sourced from local growers
in Idaho, California, and Oregon.

Flacking for GMOs: How the Biotech Industry Cultivates Positive Media—and
Discourages Criticism

“I’ve worked as a professional journalist in Chicago for more than three decades,”
Eng says. “I’ve uncovered questionable activity in government groups, nonprofits,
and private companies. But I don’t think I have ever seen a group so intent on trying
to personally attack the journalist covering the issue.”

Eng’s experience is just one example of a strategy first invented by Big Tobacco to
smear critics, spin reporters, and tamp down information that could damage the
industry’s image.

One tactic industry allies employ to discredit questions about GMOs is to narrow
the discussion to food safety. Pro-GMO scientists and writers mock experts and
critics, by portraying them as loonies who think eating a bag of corn chips is akin
to ingesting a bottle of arsenic. But this is a misleading line of attack, since GMO
concerns are wide-ranging, including how well they are tested for safety, their impact
on agriculture and the ecosystem, and the toxicity of glyphosate.

Besides receiving money to help Monsanto, Chassy runs Academics Review, a site suggested
to him by an executive at Monsanto who emailed, “The key will be keeping Monsanto in

After helping plan the first conference, Cami Ryan later took a job with Monsanto.

“These are distressing materials,” says Naomi Oreskes, professor of the history of science
at Harvard University, after reviewing documents and emails about the conferences.
Oreskes says the involvement of the American Council on Science and Health is
especially problematic, given its long history of undermining the science on chemical
safety and pesticides. She added: “It is clearly intended to persuade people that
GMO crops are beneficial, needed, and not sufficiently risky to justify labeling.”

Scientist tells judge that Monsanto’s Roundup causes cancer

Courthouse News Service, 5 Mar 2018

Ritz, the first scientist to testify this week, warned that a study finding
no significant link between glyphosate and non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma can’t be trusted
due to several design flaws.

“I have to downgrade the importance of the AHS study for time exposure,” Ritz said.
“I can’t take this study seriously if it shows no effect because all the effects
are drowned in the noise of exposure misclassification.”

Additionally, because glyphosate became so ubiquitous by 2014, the study could
no longer credibly estimate its impact on health, she said.

“As soon as exposure becomes ubiquitous, it’s hard to determine what it does,”
Ritz said. “It’s just like cellphone use. Once everyone is using cellphones, we can
no longer estimate brain cancer risk from cellphones.”

After analyzing several other case studies that investigated potential links
between glyphosate and cancer, Ritz said she concluded “that to reasonable degree
of scientific certainty, glyphosate-containing products do cause Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma”.

The expert testimony is expected to continue through Friday. Dr. Dennis Weisenburger,
a pathologist from the City of Hope Medical Center, is expected to take the stand next.

EU Court of Justice strengthens the precautionary principle

Testbiotech considers these legal cases to be test cases breaking new ground in legal
jurisdiction. Now that legal clarity has been provided and these legal reviews
are admissible, the EU court has to clarify in more detail how it will deal with
scientifically-based concerns and the role of the precautionary principle.

European authorities violated own rules to conclude glyphosate is not carcinogenic

“For instance, both authorities ignored the fact that some of the tumour findings
were reproduced in the majority of studies and that the increases in kidney cancers
and malignant lymphomas were dose-dependent. Such reproducibility and dose-dependence
are strong confirmations that the cancer increases did not happen by chance and
that glyphosate was responsible.”

India slashes Monsanto's GMO seed royalty

Last year, the Indian government issued an order to control cotton seed prices
effective from the 2016-17 crop year. In a ruling, the antitrust regulator, Competition
Commission of India, accused the GMO giant of potentially abusing its dominant
position on the market. New Delhi said that Monsanto was free to leave the Indian
market if it does not want to accept the government-imposed price and royalty cuts
for its genetically modified cotton seeds. The American corporation controls
some 90 percent of the market, serving over seven million cotton farmers in India.

Commercial pesticides: Not as safe as they seem - ScienceDaily,

March 8, 2018, Source: Frontiers

New regulations are needed to protect people and the environment from toxic pesticide
ingredients that are not currently subject to safety assessments. This is the conclusion
of the first comprehensive review of gaps in risk assessments for "adjuvants" -- ingredients
added to pesticide formulations to enhance the function or application of the
active ingredient. Ignoring the potential dangers of other ingredients in commonly
used commercial pesticides leads to inaccuracies in the safety profile of the
pesticide solution, as well as confusion in scientific literature on pesticide effects,
finds the review published in Frontiers in Public Health.

"Exposure to environmental levels of some of these adjuvant mixtures can affect
non-target organisms -- and even can cause chronic human disease," says Dr
Robin Mesnage from King's College London, who co-wrote the review with Dr Michael Antoniou.
"Despite this, adjuvants are not currently subject to an acceptable daily intake
and are not included in the health risk assessment of dietary exposures to pesticide

Pesticides are a mixture of chemicals made up of an active ingredient -- the
substance that kills or repels a pest -- along with a mixture of other ingredients
that help with the application or function of the active ingredient. These
other ingredients are known as adjuvants, and include dyes, anti-foaming agents and

Regulatory tests for pesticide safety are currently only done on the active ingredient,
which assumes the other ingredients have no effects. This means the full toxicity of
a pesticide formulation -- including those used in both agriculture and
domestic gardens -- is not shown.

"Currently, the health risk assessment of pesticides in the European Union and
in the United States focuses almost exclusively on the active ingredient," explains
Dr Mesnage. "Despite the known toxicity of adjuvants, they are regulated differently
from active principles, with their toxic effects being generally ignored."

Based on a review of current pesticide literature, the authors describe how
unregulated chemicals present in commercial formulations of pesticides could
provide a missing link between pesticide exposure and observed negative outcomes.

The researchers focused on glyphosate-based herbicides, the most used pesticide
worldwide. They point out that this weed killer has so many different adjuvant
formulations that a safety test of one weed killer does not test the safety of another.

"Studies comparing the toxicity of commercial weed-killer formulations to that
of glyphosate alone have shown that several formulations are up to 1,000 times more
toxic than glyphosate on human cells. We believe that the adjuvants are
responsible for this additional toxic effect," says Dr Mesnage.

The authors also highlight neonicotinoid insecticides -- strongly suspected to be
involved in the collapsing of bee colonies -- as another example of adjuvant toxicity
affecting non-target organisms. An adjuvant used in these insecticides to
increase the penetration of the active ingredient has been shown to cause varying
toxic effects in bees. On top of this, residues of the toxin have also been found
in honey, pollen and beeswax produced by contaminated bees.

The authors hope their review will stimulate discussion on the toxicity of commonly
used pesticides and encourage more thorough regulations.

"Testing of whole pesticide formulations instead of just active ingredients alone
would create a precautionary approach, ensuring that the guidance value for the
pesticide is valid for the worst-case exposure scenario," says Dr Mesnage.

Their findings have already had a considerable impact. The European Food
Safety Authority is now reassessing the validity of pesticide risk assessment
in the EU, and authors hope that this reassessment can extend to entire commercial
formulations of pesticides and their other ingredients.

Summary: This is the first comprehensive review of gaps in risk assessments for
adjuvants in pesticide formulations which are not currently subject to safety
assessments. Ignoring the potential dangers of other ingredients in commonly used
commercial pesticides leads to inaccuracies in the safety profile of the pesticide
solution, as well as confusion in scientific literature on pesticide effects.

environment from toxic pesticide ingredients.

Tsargrad TV: Russia preventing the US from establishing a global GMO dictatorship

Does the Russian media write too much about GMOs or do the American media write too little?

If Russia follows the example of some EU countries and gradually abandons glyphosate-based herbicides, “this will cause huge damage to the American GMO industry,” Rowlands said.

Rowlands believes that the anti-Russian trend formed in American politics is a convenient tool in the hands of “GMO supporters”.

“For the American GMO industry and for the U.S. government, this is an excellent opportunity to tie a movement that they do not like (referring to the movement against GMOs), to a foreign government that challenges them on many fronts (i.e., Russia),” Rowlands stated.

Commenting on the research of the Iowa State University, the RT press service said that the Russian TV channel does not campaign against biotechnology companies: “RT does not conduct any campaign against GMO products. We regularly cover this topic, as it worries our international audience. Following the motto of Question More, we tell viewers what the mainstream media does not say. This is what the results of the study by the American scientists confirms.”

Ready for GMO 2.0?

Plus, there are bigger fish to fry. Westgate states that the growing threat of GMO 2.0, is a supply-chain issue to keep an eye on. GMO 2.0 includes such genetic engineering techniques as synthetic biology, gene-editing, and Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR), though industry opinion about whether CRISPR is a viable non-GMO technique or can be considered GMO 2.0 is somewhat split.

Says Taormina, “CRISPR and other ‘gene-editing’ technologies will introduce many new varieties of crops in the coming years.” He says apples and potatoes, for instance, have been modified to “silence” the expression of certain genes for various purposes.

But GMO 2.0 isn’t your run-of-the-mill gene-editing, Westgate adds. “Unlike traditional genetic engineering, these techniques are often not "transgenic", meaning the products of GMO 2.0 don’t contain genes from multiple species (e.g., a mix of bacteria, viruses, animal, and plant genes, etc.) the way 'traditional’ GMOs do".

This is a big problem, she adds, because while some products of these technologies may not be transgenic, “they are still products of biotechnology as defined by the Codex Alimentarius...the Codex definition is the same one used by the Non-GMO Project. Besides the fact that many products of GMO 2.0 are being sold as "non-GMO", an additional supply chain challenge with these types of ingredients is that testing labs have not yet developed commercial tests for them.”

Walmart silently filed a patent for robotic bees meant to pollinate crops

In a move first reported on by CB Insights, Walmart has filed a patent for autonomous bees. Technically called ‘pollination drones', these robots are meant to do just that: pollinate crops in lieu of real bees. They would carry pollen from one plant to another, relying on cameras and other sensors to identify crops and their flowers.

The patent appears alongside five other patents for farming drones, including one that would keep an eye out for pests and another tasked with monitoring crop health. It's not yet clear what Walmart plans to do with these patents; Business Insider tried to contact Walmart, but so far they didn't respond to their request for comment.

Oregon Becomes the Second State to Sue Monsanto for Poisoning the Environment with Toxic PCB Chemicals

“Monsanto knew decades before PCBs were banned that they were toxic to the environment, but they failed to disclose highly pertinent information,” said Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum about the company’s dealings. ” The report said that PCBs are being measured in the bodies of fish and in river sediments across the state, and that more money is needed in order to support the cleanup.

Monsanto called the lawsuit “baseless” in a prepared statement.

However, the battle to hold the company responsible for PCBs has been taking place for many years, and Oregon’s neighbor to the north, Washington, has already filed a similar lawsuit, as have eight major West Coast cities.

The new suit alleges that Monsanto has known its chemicals were harmful going back as far as 1937; the company did not stop producing them until 1977.

She was credited with negotiating the agriculture section of coalition deal for the new government. The deal contains a goal of ending glyphosate use as a weed-killer in Germany, but gives no timetable. Alternatives must be developed first, the agreement says.

Other agricultural policies agreed for the new government include a continuation of the ban on growing crops with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Germany and an expansion of organic farming.

Arsenic in Wine? Michelob Moves to Organic? Why the Alcohol Industry Is Making Changes

New Test Results Show What Popular Beer and Wine Brands Have in Common: Monsanto’s Roundup

March 15, 2018 , Mission Viejo Ca- It has been a rough few years for the alcohol industry, but change is a-brewing. In 2015 Los Angeles CBS news broke the announcement of a lawsuit against 31 brands of wines for high levels of inorganic arsenic. In 2016, 12 California wines tested were all found to be positive for glyphosate herbicide. Vinters and brewers alike began noticing the growing demand for organic. Just this week, Anheuser-Busch announced that their brand Michelob has launched a new beer Ultra Pure Gold made with organic wheat. What do these events all have in common?

Monsanto’s Roundup.

If you remember, French scientist Seralini et al released shocking findings in January of 2018 that all the brands of the glyphosate-based Roundup they tested, over a dozen, had high levels of arsenic, over 5x the allowable limit. Was Roundup the source of arsenic in wine? One must wonder... In 2016, beer testing in Germany also revealed residues of glyphosate in every single sample tested, even independent beers. But what about the US?

Moms Across America is releasing new findings of glyphosate in all of the most popular brands of wines in the world, most of which are from the US, and in batch test results in American beer. The findings were at first, confusing. But one thing that was clear was that the beer and wine industries must and in many cases are, moving away from Monsanto’s Roundup in order to avoid contamination by this chemical herbicide, a known neurotoxin, carcinogen, and endocrine disruptor, which causes liver disease. Despite Monsanto’s impassioned appeal of “irreparable harm”, CA federal Judge Shubb allowed glyphosate to remain on the CA Prop 65 carcinogen list in a ruling out just two weeks ago.

So which brands tested positive for glyphosate? Full lab report can be found here. Summary of results below:

The practice of spraying glyphosate-based herbicides between the rows for weed control while the vines are dormant, according to plant pathologist Don Huber PhD., is causing an uptake of glyphosate into the plant, grapes, and present in the wine. The higher than the national average rates of breast cancer in the California wine region show even more reason for considerable concern. Also worrisome is the contamination of organic wine. Organic grape growers do not use glyphosate herbicides but are apparently being affected by either rain, irrigation water or drift, by neighboring vineyards or farms that use glyphosate.

Babies fed soy-based formula have changes in reproductive system tissues

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

"Soy formula contains high concentrations of plant-based estrogen-like compounds, and because this formula is the sole food source for many babies in the first six months of life, it's important to understand the effects of exposure to such compounds during a critical period in development," said Virginia A. Stallings, MD, director of the Nutrition Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Stallings is a senior author of a new study published online March 1 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

The study was funded and led by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health. The first author is Margaret A. Adgent, MSPH, PhD, formerly of NIEHS, now at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Adgent said, "Modern soy formula has been used safely for decades. However, our observational study found subtle effects in estrogen-responsive tissues in soy-fed infants, and we don't know if these differences are associated with long-term health effects."

Seneff: “Hmmm. Egg consumption of eggs produced in North America (but not elsewhere!) is linked to prostate cancer. Glyphosate, anyone?”

Could this production method, or other factors in the production, distribution and consumption of eggs, contribute to the production of unhealthy eggs in the US? We don’t know, but there is a measurable chemical differences in eggs from hens that are raised in cages vs. those that are free-ranged or are enriched with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA).

Since these effects were limited to North America, it raises the question of whether there is something in the way American eggs are raised or prepared that could account for their particular harmfulness…

The Real Organic Project: Disgusted With the USDA, Farmers Make Their Own Organic Label

“I got involved when I started seeing a lot of hydroponic tomatoes certified as organic showing up in the market, about five years ago,” says Dave Chapman, a longtime organic farmer who runs Long Wind Farm, in Vermont. “We made a really good faith effort to reform the organic program, but we realized [certification of hydroponics] was not the only egregious failure—the NOP [National Organic Program] was very weak on animal welfare, too.”

For the many people who have spent years working hard to build the integrity of the NOP, this is a dismal moment. We have lost the helm, and the New Organic will not have much to do with the ideals of such pioneers as Albert Howard and Eve Balfour. It will have to do with money. Money will decide what is called “certified organic” and what isn’t.

Impossible Burger executive grilled at Sustainable Foods Summit

But Halla's PowerPoint slides didn't mention that the Impossible Burger's key ingredient is a genetically engineered protein called soy leghemoglobin or "heme." The presentation also didn't mention that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration told Impossible Foods that the company hadn't demonstrated the safety of heme after it applied to the FDA seeking GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. Despite FDA's concerns, Impossible Foods sold its GMO-derived burger for public consumption anyway.

Several audience members took Halla to task over Impossible Foods marketing its burger despite FDA concerns, short-term feeding studies, and lack of transparency about the use of the GMO ingredient.

Seneff: “"Soylent" - a pro-GMO marketing ploy that's hard to believe!”

The Hidden Dangers of of Soylent "Meal Replacement"

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WORSE: a product full of GMOs and chemically-derived additives that proudly lauds its healthfulness and humanitarian benefits, or, a manufacturer that blatantly hides the fact they are using GMO ingredients by keeping them off the label?

In the case of Soylent, a meal replacement drink made with GMO soy and other genetically-modified ingredients, the makers want you to know how proud they are to use GMOs in their product. Reading like a Monsanto ad, the post on Soylent’s website spouts a litany of pseudo-scientific propaganda about the safety of GMOs that GreenMedInfo has spent the last ten years debunking.

Putting the issue of GMOs to the side for a moment, Soylent’s suitability as a meal replacement still has the insurmountable problem of its use of synthetic chemicals as nutritional additives. Ingredients such as sucralose (aka Splenda), petrochemically-derived vitamin E, and known substances possessing carcinogenicity such as manganese sulfate, chromium chloride, sodium molybdate, and sodium selenite, deliver the “nutrients.” Although these industrial byproducts have been approved for use in both human and animal foods, it is an indefensible position that these toxic compounds fulfill daily nutritional requirements. As GreenMedInfo’s research database shows, the scientific evidence warning against the use of mass-market vitamins, whether in pill or liquid form, is too substantial to ignore.

Black Cancer Matters - “Company Town”

“Company Town,” released in theaters in 2017 and available March 20 on iTunes, was co-directed by Natalie Kottke-Masocco and Erica Sardarian. It opens with gospel vocalists singing the words “run down to the river,” a deeply ironic injunction in Crossett, Ark., a setting where a Georgia-Pacific paper and chemical plant — owned by the billionaire Koch brothers — stands accused of polluting local waters. The movie depicts rural people dependent for a livelihood on an industry that they believe is sickening them by contaminating their environment. Most of the men and women dealing with cancer in the area are African-Americans.

Government spokespeople, the Koch brothers and the supervisors of Georgia-Pacific dispute the directors’ argument and evidence. Yet “Company Town” mounts a passionate protest on behalf of overlooked victims of corporate negligence and greed.

Deleted scenes:

LA Times: 'Company Town' takes aim at factory owners in Arkansas

The film, shot from 2011-15, follows the efforts of Bouie, Cheryl Slavant, scientists and others to engage the regional staff of the Environmental Protection Agency in their fight against Georgia-Pacific. But the results are limited — and the troubles still ongoing.

Talking glyphosate, corruption, & citizen duty – in 17 minutes - By Canadian Activist Tony Mitra

Well – we are facing an existential crisis, and the buck stops are our feet. Question is, what are we, as individual citizens, prepared to do?

Here is my take, on Glyphosae, political and scientific corruption, and the need for citizen activism.

Glyphosate, being a mineral chelator, was denying our body from picking up essential nutrients from food by chelating (stealing) the minerals.

About a third of all our proteins (say around 40,000 kinds, give or take) function with a metallic ion placed in them. When our body creates a new protein of this kind, say to replace damaged one, it needs a metallic ion such as Manganese, or Iron, etc. to be attached to them in order for the proteins to function properly. This mineral is to be picked up from our food. However, glyphosate, if present in the same food, is able to steal that mineral. So, newly formed proteins would be denied its essential mineral, and remain non-functional as a result. Non-functional proteins lead to a pathway of diseases.

We humans and all animals have evolved in symbiosis with the bacterial kingdom, and a mass of bacteria use our body as host and in return perform essential services such as helping digest our food and assist our immune system.

Glyphosate kills bacteria, and thus it indirectly harms all of us, if we consume glyphosate along with our food. The claim that glyphosate is safe is patently false and to make it stick, industry has acquired a stranglehold on scientific research, destroying its neutrality and objectivity. More on this later.

Our immune system has not learned to identify glyphosate as a harmful substance because it is a synthetic molecule that did not exist in nature in the 4 billion year evolutionary history of life on earth. Our evolutionary process did not have to deal with it. That is why we have no defence against Glyphosate. This molecule was invented by man, only two generations ago, and as such is of extraterrestrial nature. It aught to be made extraterrestrial again – sending it out of planet earth. Let them make it and store it on Jupiter.

As if all this was not enough, glyphosate is a biological mimic of glycine, a canonical amino acid that is among the most common of the 22 amino acids that form the basic building block of all life. By molecular mimicry, it slips past all our defences and gets mis-incorporated into our proteins. This invasion of glyphosate into our proteins turns them into rogue proteins, which can lead to a cascading series of diseases including synthetic diseases that did not exist before.

For scientific confirmation – one may read peer reviewed papers of Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff, linked in my blog

For me, glyphosate is unacceptable for a simpler and more ominous reason. A product may not be approved by a government for general release without disclosure of its safety documents and providing the proof that it is safe. However, test data and documents that prove glyphosate is safe for consumers, have not been disclosed by any nations anywhere, despite it being approved for use since the 1970s. To me, this itself makes approval of glyphosate illegal.

Also, no government was engaged in broad based testing of food to detect levels of concentration of glyphosate, the most used herbicide on the planet. This is not just irresponsible and unacceptable. It should be criminal.

Personally I could not get any organization, anti-GMO groups and various talking heads to join me in asking the government in Canada to disclose hitherto hidden safety document on glyphosate. Neither could I find anyone to join me asking the Canadian government to start testing our foods for glyphosate. That is how I decided to go alone.

In 2013 Canada did not even have a lab that could test glyphosate in food, mainly because neither our government nor the medical establishment had so far been interested in testing foods for glyphosate. As a result, labs did not gear themselves up for a non-existent market.

I subsequently started a single handed two pronged effort to get the Canadian government, as the time under Stephen Harper and the conservatives, to get off its backside and first disclose all safety documents and data based on glyphosate was approved for the first time, back in the 1970s. Then, on a separate appeal, I asked the ministry of health to get some labs ready to test foods for glyphosate and to answer why Canadians could not test presence of the most used herbicide in our food.

The first effort is still dragging on. The government does agree I have a right to see the safety documents. And yet, it drags it feet forever. I also learned that I was the first person in Canada to officially as for this information, although the molecule has been approved back in the 1970s.

The second effort was more successful. In fact, it moved mountains, primarily due to a dedicated member of parliament, Mr. Alex Atamanenko, who took up my cause and demanded that the then minister of health answers me why Canadians cannot test food for glyphosate. This resulted in the ministry of health finally responding to me in a letter and also arranging to have its food inspection agency to start broad based testing of all foods available in Canada, produced locally and imported, for presence of glyphosate.

As soon as I learned that the wheels of the Government was finally beginning to turn in favour of testing our food for glyphosate, I asked the Canadian government discloses all test results to me – not just for the emerging records on glyphosate but for all biocides in food that the government had already tested for. And thus December 2016 I got almost 8,000 just concluded test results of glyphosate in foods and later another almost 100,000 records of results of other biocides in foods.

Analysis of the glyphosate records proved to be a shocker.

First, seed based foods and food products produced in the US and Canada were an order of dimension more toxic with glyphosate than same foods produced anywhere else on the planet. North America produces the most poisonous foods on the planet. I call glyphosate to be poisonous on the grounds that its safety data has been kept hidden. By that omission, I consider approval of glyphosate as illegal and the product as unsafe and downright a slow and deadly poison. Also, That it in fact is a deadly slow poison, has been explained by scientists such as Samsel and Seneff in their peer reviewed papers.

Not only that, I found out that conventional non-GMO crops such as wheat, rye, oats, barley, chickpea etc have an order of dimension more glyphosate than GM crops like soy and corn. Thus conventional non-GMO foods were, in my view, very much more poisonous than GM crops.

In my view, going after Monsanto is a useless exercise, because Monsanto does not necessarily break the law. What is does is corrupt our governments and gets our politicians to change the law to suit its business model. I believe its claim of safety of glyphosate to be fraudulent. I believe that is why it influences governments to hide this safety record from the people and prevents independent scrutiny of these data. Our governments is thus knowingly or unknowingly helping slow poisoning of the people, by allowing widespread use of glyphosate in agriculture.

Therefore, if one has to identify the rogues that are responsible for poisoning our food, our health, and our future, one needs to focus on our ineffective and possibly corrupt political process and perhaps corrupt or illiterate politicians that could not distinguish glyphosate from their elbow, who are unfortunately in charge of the regulatory mechanism and end up changing the laws of the nation to allow glyphosate to be used in agriculture.

Other scientists have found problems not just with glyphosate, but also with other chemicals packaged around it to make the branded product such as RoundUp. While this may be correct, it is glyphosate and glyphosate alone, that goes to regulatory mechanism and passes approval that ends up as RoundUp herbicide. In my view the cumulative damage that glyphosate does, not just at the toxicological level but in destroying our biology by molecular mimicry, sets this molecule apart from other adjuvants that goes into the packaging of RoundUp and even other herbicides.

And while we have other herbicides, pesticides, insecticides that are all possibly harming the ecosystem, glyphosate again stands out by the sheer volume of it that is produced and used, compared to all other biocides.

GMO are also based on fraudulent logic, exploitative ethics, twisted science as well as designed to undermine food security and freedom of a nation. However, there are hundreds and hundreds of them, each following different sets of scientific detail. If I have to fight a single battle and not a thousand battles, then I would choose glyphosate to be in my primary target. Glyphosate is the 900 pound gorilla in our food web and environment. Killing it would effectively also kill the GMO project. We shall be on the way to have all foods grown everywhere to be naturally organic as well as belonging to the people and the region that grows these foods, and not property of western corporations and banks .

Agri-corporations and their enablers in our government is quick to show the weighty evidence of science papers that claim glyphosate is safe. Promoters of this model of agriculture peddling increased sale of toxic chemicals, support a viewpoint that there is a baseless conspiracy theory and paranoia created in the minds of people by some miscreants and hapless scientists, which is resisting progress and modernism in agriculture and fighting glyphosate. There is a misconception that a little bit of toxicity in food in way of glyphosate is both acceptable and necessary, in view of the increased population of the world. All these claims by the promoters of toxic agriculture are fraudulent and not supported by honest facts and honest science. But my response to this chemical onslaught is simple. I say – disclose the safety documents, or shut up.

As to the weight of scientific evidence and the so called science based assessment – this is what I have to say.

Scientific research on safety of technologies such as glyphosate and GMO needs to be public funded and public owned. Instead, it is funded by the industry. Our politicians have allowed this travesty to come about. The public has bought into this on the false idea that this makes science free for the people and reduced our tax burden. This is false. There is no free lunch. You pay junk money for science, and you get junk science.

The industry is not interested in funding scientists that wish to check if products such as glyphosate has a problem. As a result, research on possible negative effects of glyphosate does not get any funding. Science has thus become one sided. It has lost its neutrality and objectivity. This, to me, is not science. This is voodoo, and so called “scientists” promoting it are not true scientists. They are pedlars.

Lastly, all this talk sidesteps a few important points – and these are to do with my perception of what constitutes democracy, the role of citizenry and what should be my personal duty to uphold our democratic process where the people are the masters of the government, and not some poison peddling corporation.

The most important stakeholder in democracy is the citizen. It is my view that we, each of us, incur a debt to society and to democracy, as we grow up. The society does a lot to groom us. And we are to pay this debt back through the course of our lives by doing something in return for our society, our neighbourhood and our nation. We take a lot from the the society. We are supposed to put back more than we take, so that we leave the kitty is a bit richer and not sucked dry in our lifetime.

And there is the crux. We as individuals, within our individual capacity, are to engage in citizen activism to uphold and improve the wheels of the nation. This is our job, and not the job of the politicians. The politicians job is to represent us, take our views, and execute our wishes as our temporary servants. Our job is to be ever vigilant to ensure that these temporary servants are not robbing us and selling us off.

If we are caught napping, and stop controlling the politicians, then our politics will start being controlled by someone else or something else – which does not have our best interest at heart. Democracy then begins to fail, or morphs into forms of dictatorship, or fascism or other forms of rogue governments.

As they say – if you have a nation of sheep, you get a government of wolves. So, I appeal to you, the people, to get busy paying your debt to the nation, and start holding the feet of your politician to the fire.

We are facing an existential crisis. The very well beings of your children and grandchildren depends on you doing your duty in your own lifetime. Nothing else will do. The buck stops at your feet.

Thank you.

Great articles on Monsanto’s Glyphosate, a/k/a “Roundup.”

If you are newbie, this is a great article to learn about the history and new science coming out about gmo foods and Glyphosate, how they tried to shoot down Seralini’s study, what are gmo crops, Monsanto’s studies, harm to bees, amphibians, brain overstimulation and cell damage, fertility and birth defects, countries banning Roundup, Samsel, Seneff, Vrain, patents, superbugs and superweeds, labelling and Cuba.

Seneff: “I'm happy to see the World Mercury Project talking about vaccines and molecular mimicry. I highly suspect that glyphosate contamination in the proteins in the vaccines is making this problem much worse than it would otherwise be.”

Molecular Mimicry—Understanding the Link between Vaccines and Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmune diseases have become increasingly common in the United States and other high-income countries over the past several decades and now affect an estimated 5%-10% of the population in those countries. The broad category of “autoimmune disease” comprises over 100 different rheumatic, endocrinological, gastrointestinal and neurological conditions that ensue when the body’s immune responses get misdirected against itself. Researchers generally agree that environmental factors (including drugs and chemicals) are strongly to blame for the rise in autoimmune disorders, possibly in conjunction with genetic and epigenetic influences—and studies dating back to the mid-1990s indicate that vaccines, with their unique configuration of viral or bacterial antigens and adjuvants, are a biologically plausible trigger.

The pathogenic hallmark of autoimmune disease is the production of proteins called autoantibodies, whereby the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own organs, tissues and cells instead of fighting external pathogens. Vaccines can prompt autoantibody production through a mechanism called “molecular mimicry.” As explained by Israeli researchers in a new review article in Cellular & Molecular Immunology, significant similarities between the pathogenic antigens contained in a vaccine and human proteins in the person receiving the vaccine can lead to immune “cross-reactivity” and “evolve into an autoimmune process targeting the…self-proteins.”

Given the proliferation of over 100 autoimmune disorders since the mid-1940s, it is concerning that the three examples presented by the Israeli researchers are, by the authors’ own admission, still subject to “significant debate.” As they go on to explain, there is an unacceptable lack of high-quality scientific data on vaccine-related adverse events. Some of the many reasons why vaccine safety monitoring is flawed include variable diagnostic classification of cases, manipulation of the post-vaccination risk interval, inability to assess underreporting of adverse events (which the U.S. government acknowledges to be widespread), and “substantial publication bias favoring studies that support vaccine safety.” Instead of trying to bury adverse events as inconvenient to the monolithic vaccine safety narrative, we should be paying attention to the “red flags” that adverse reactions clearly represent.

Poisoned Fields

Zen from Moms Across America appears in this documentary, along with Seralini’s work being confirmed. They knew in 2000 that the other “inert” ingredients in glyphosate was more dangerous. If you can’t watch the the whole film, at least watch 40:00 through 48:00.

“I urge you to ask yourself or our government, why is a mom having to do...this testing, why isn’t our government doing it, why wasn’t the chemical company who manufacturers these chemicals doing it, why weren’t the food companies doing it, why aren’t the baby formula companies doing this?

“The publications of the French group of Professor Seralini confirms our suspicions that we expressed in the year 2000, that the other ingredients are more toxic than glyphosate

'Catastrophe' as France's bird population collapses due to pesticides

Dozens of species have seen their numbers decline, in some cases by two-thirds, because insects they feed on have disappeared

The primary culprit, researchers speculate, is the intensive use of pesticides on vast tracts of monoculture crops, especially wheat and corn.

The problem is not that birds are being poisoned, but that the insects on which they depend for food have disappeared.

“There are hardly any insects left, that’s the number one problem,” said Vincent Bretagnolle, a CNRS ecologist at the Centre for Biological Studies in Chize.

Alarm Sounds After EU Regulators Greenlight Bayer-Monsanto #MergerFromHell

Critics of the deal warn the decision will allow the companies, "together with BASF, to become data giants in agriculture—the 'Facebooks of farming'—with all the pitfalls that entails."

"The Commission ignored a million people who called on them to block this deal, and caved in to lobbying to create a mega-corporation which will dominate our food supply," Nick Flynn, legal director of the online campaigns group Avaaz, told Reuters.

"The agriculture industry is already far too concentrated, giving a handful of massive firms a strangle hold on food production," noted Bart Staes, a food safety spokesman for The Greens–European Free Alliance. "Merging two of the biggest players only makes a bad situation worse."

Critics of the merger, including global advocacy group SumOfUs, vowed to continue the fight against it by increasing pressuring on U.S. regulators.

More Gene-Edited Food Could Soon Be Coming to Store Shelves

Genetic engineering has mostly been reserved for large commodity crops because regulatory testing costs so much. But gene-editing, which modifies a plant’s DNA directly without injecting foreign genes, isn’t regulated. Editing methods promise to be faster and cheaper, opening up the technique to foods that haven’t usually been modified, say strawberries or spinach.

How Canadians Bankrolled the World's First Genetically Engineered Food Animal

Less than two years later, the US department of Agriculture gave half a million dollars to AquaBounty Technologies to research methods to sterilize the fish—an important safety measure to ensure GE fish do not reproduce and colonize if they escape captivity. (Despite this, AquaBounty has never been successful in producing 100-percent sterile GE salmon.) The timing of the grant came under intense scrutiny by US environmental campaigners, who accused the US government of “bailing out” AquaBounty’s main investor at the time—billionaire oligarch Kakha Bendukidze from the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

Seneff: “The weeds are winning against glyphosate! Unfortunately, it means more glyphosate exposure plus a ramp up of other herbicides that are supposed to be even more toxic than glyphosate in the short term. But in the long term I'm hoping that we finally wake up and realize that chemical-based agriculture is a dismal failure.”

The War Against Weeds Evolves in 2018

Dairies East and West See Opportunities with Non-GMO Milk

About 80 percent of FarmFriend farms have transitioned to organic. “We’ve transitioned farmers (to organic) who originally said they would never be certified,” Miller says.

“It stems back to us having a mission to listen to consumers, and there is a desire among our consumers to avoid GMOs,” says Kristel Corson, Clover’s marketing director.

In an online survey, 56 percent of Clover consumers said they thought GMOs presented health risks, and 60 percent said they wanted a non-GMO milk option.

“Milk is a natural product, and consumers thought that having a product not connected with GMOs is important,” Corson said.

Last fall, Clover announced that it would transition all of its conventional dairy milk products to be Non-GMO Project Verified by 2018.

Seneff: “I talked about some of my most recent research on glyphosate's mechanisms of toxicity and the consequences to our health in this newly posted podcast.”

Transcript: The Health & Wellness Show: Interview with Brilliant Researcher Dr. Stephanie Seneff

So both the dimer formation and the attachment to the membrane depend on glycine. Glyphosate I believe is substituting for that glycine, messing up the molecules, preventing it from going to the membrane, preventing it from making sulphate and causing therefore a crisis with sulphate insufficiency.

We've had exponential growth of glyphosate usage on core crops in the United States over the past two decades in step with the exponential growth in autism and Alzheimer's disease and kidney failure, all these different problems, diabetes, are connected. I think they're directly linked to the glyphosate which is accumulating in our tissues.

Stephanie: Once they added a digestive enzyme that breaks proteins down into individual amino acids they increased the yield up to something like 57%, still missing quite a bit of the radio-label, which means they were able to break the protein down but not completely. So I think glyphosate makes the protein difficult to break down as well as messing up its ability to do its job, it makes it difficult to break it down. So you end up with a slow accumulation of glyphosate-contaminated proteins that your body can't clear.

And of course it also messes up the sulphate which is needed to break down cellular debris. So you've got these busted proteins that you can't get rid of because you don't have enough sulphate to create the acidic environment that you need to digest and to break down those broken proteins.

The glyphosate creates a negative charge. That causes it to bind to aluminum and the aluminum causes these molecules to hook together, the aluminum ties them together because you have the +3 aluminium charge and then the two negatively charged glyphosate molecules in two separate instances of this protein that then stick to the aluminum and stick together so you form this kind of complex of these molecules in the cytoplasm which is not where they're supposed to be and which is the source of trouble for the neuron that causes it to die.

Stephanie: Christopher Exley has been doing a lot of research on aluminum. He has recently found high levels of aluminum in autism brains which is quite exciting to me because I've written about aluminum and autism. I think it is a major player in the autism problem. I've written about the glyphosate making the aluminum much more toxic than it would otherwise because the glyphosate binds to the aluminum and neutralizes its positive charge, which makes it much easier for it to get across the gut barrier. And glyphosate also opens up the gut barrier, it opens up the brain barrier and allows aluminum to gain access to the brain and both Alzheimer's and autism are going up dramatically in step with glyphosate usage and both of those have been found to have high levels of aluminum in the brain in association with them. Post-mortem when they examine the brain they find high levels of aluminum.

Stephanie: Yes, that's very interesting. I also looked into the flu virus which is also quite fascinating because the flu virus goes into the muscle cells, infects them and then reprograms them to basically put little coats of extra cellular matrix around each flu virus particle that's being made. It repurposes the muscle cells. So instead of putting that heparin sulphate outside the door where it would normally do it, it redirects its energies towards coating each of those little virus particles with heparin sulphate and then the cell bursts and it sends all those flu particles on their way, they get taken by the macrophages and the macrophages say 'thank you very much for the heparin sulphate that you just gave me.' In other words, the flu virus is a mechanism to supply the immune cells with heparin sulphate by stealing it from the muscles. The immune cells desperately need heparin sulphate in order to be able to support the immune function.

Doug: That is mind blowing!

Stephanie: Severe immune deficiency is what causes you to get the flu and then flu actually helps to improve your immunity if you survive it.

Trypsin has four separate regions that are glycine-rich and each of them has a different role that it plays but the molecule is going to be really disturbed if it's got glyphosate thrown in at various places in place of glycine. Trypsin won't work. Digestive enzymes won't work. Proteins won't get digested. That sets up a leaky gut barrier, those undigested proteins get out into the circulation. The immune cells respond with autoimmune disease. Basically, you get antibodies to these foreign proteins which then become auto-antibodies to your own proteins through a process called molecular mimicry.

'Dead zone' in Gulf of Mexico will take decades to recover from farm pollution

A new study says that even in the ‘unrealistic’ event of a total halt to the flow of agricultural chemicals the damage will persist for 30 years

European authorities violated own rules to conclude glyphosate is not carcinogenic

The new analysis shows that if the European authorities had properly applied their own benchmarks and “weight of evidence” approach, they would have inevitably concluded that glyphosate is carcinogenic. The analysis includes a science-based rebuttal of ECHA's claim that it adequately addressed concerns about how it applied statistical analyses and the weight of evidence approach.[2]

It has been known since 2015 that EFSA dismissed 11 statistically significant increases in tumour incidences associated with glyphosate in seven different animal studies performed by industry to support regulatory authorization of the pesticide.[3]

Keep an eye on your property and community. Take pictures of your trees and plants. Watch for damage. Document it.

Between the two registrations, Monsanto submitted studies conducted in Georgia and Texas, which were states that received zero complaints about dicamba in 2017. Those studies found that drift and volatilization was minimal. Based on those studies, the EPA found “the 110-foot omnidirectional buffer for volatilization is no longer warranted.”

“EPA maintains a transparent, public process for assessing potential risks to human health and the environment when evaluating pesticide products,” he said.

However, research conducted in 2017 at the University of Arkansas found that dicamba drifts up to 220 feet, more than double the EPA buffer zone.

Latham: “The business model of science is to attract corporate funding by publishing research that conforms to funders' biddings while denying any such influence on attitude or outcome. As this article shows, no one at science magazine is going to critique that. Even when they get 6 pages to do so.”

Was there ever really a “sugar conspiracy”?

Summary: Over the past quarter-century, historical research has revealed how major industries from tobacco to lead to petroleum have meddled in science to conceal the hazards of their products. Drawing on secret industry documents, these studies have shown how special interests have used financial incentives to influence scientists, fabricate doubt, and delay regulation (1). Recently, similar allegations have been made against the sugar industry, with claims that prominent industry-backed researchers in the 1960s downplayed or suppressed evidence linking sugar and heart disease. Building on a newly popular narrative holding that the low-fat campaign of the 1980s was not based on solid science, these allegations have suggested that if not for the machinations of the sugar industry and its cadre of sponsored researchers, the history of U.S. dietary policy might have unfolded very differently. In this article, we argue that the historical evidence does not support these claims. Although we do not defend the sugar industry and cannot address every aspect of this history, we believe recent high-profile claims come from researchers who have overextended the analogy of the tobacco industry playbook and failed to assess historical actors by the norms and standards of their time. Our analysis illustrates how conspiratorial narratives in science can distort the past in the service of contemporary causes and obscure genuine uncertainty that surrounds aspects of research, impairing efforts to formulate good evidence-informed policies. In the absence of very strong evidence, there is a serious danger in interpreting the inevitable twists and turns of research and policy as the product of malevolent playbooks and historical derailments. Like scientists, historians must focus on the evidence and follow the data where they lead.

Doctored: The Film the AMA Does Not Want You to See

An investigation into the “monopoly” of the medical industrial complex and how Americans are viewed as patients.

“I ordered this film as a couple Chiropractors I am familiar with who are awesome people are in it...but the film is so comprehensive, and (from my perspective) very fair/open and not 'too far' to the left - I was pleasantly surprised! It also gave historical background into the AMA, and the damage and slander the industry did to the first and second generation Chiropractors. Being 3rd generation myself, I am a little removed from the history. This gave a lot of insight! It also goes into depth about other causes of illness - Food quality being one of the highest - and was very insightful about Monsanto and the GMO industry. In addition, it covered Vaccination and Big Pharma, as well as a positive perspective shared of most MDs, the motives they have going into school, and how they are (often unknowingly) manipulated by the pharmaceutical industry and drug reps. It's complicated, but I actually came away from this film feeling not only really good about my profession, but the fairness and honesty being shared in this film to those who watch it. I did not find it extreme at all, and I also felt good at the end! (Sometimes I procrastinate watching these films because I know the content and exposure of truth may be disturbing in nature...but somehow this was presented in a way that felt really good to me. smile Also, real gratitude was shown for the 'miracles' that do exist in modern medicine - when they are needed - as in the case of the Chiropractor's baby who was born with a major heart defect. Modern medicine helped save their child, but following the life-saving operation, they took a more holistic approach to recovery - and had a far greater outcome that was ever projected by their doctors.”;pageNumber=1

Seneff’s book: Cindy & Erica's Obsession to Solve Today’s Health Care Crisis: Autism, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, ALS and More

This is a must read for all concerned with the autism epidemic and the overreach of Big Pharma and the Agrochemical Industry! A review…

“The format, a novel, makes this wonderful book somewhat of an adventure combined with statistics from the scientific medical world. Dr Seneff is a brilliant scientist and I was hesitant to read something that may be way beyond my scope of background. She makes this a fascinating read and combines over 20 pages of studies/references for the knowledge behind this wonderful book.”

Fyi: Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO)

BVO is a toxic chemical that is banned in many countries because it competes with iodine for receptor sites in the body, which can lead to hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, and cancer. The main ingredient, bromine, is a poisonous, corrosive chemical, linked to major organ system damage, birth defects, growth problems, schizophrenia, and hearing loss."

"There’s flame retardant in your Mountain Dew. That soda with the lime-green hue (and other citrus-flavored bubbly pops) won’t keep your insides fireproof, but it does contain brominated vegetable oil, a patented flame retardant for plastics that has been banned in foods throughout Europe and in Japan.

Brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, which acts as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored soda drinks, is found in about 10 percent of sodas sold in the U.S. 'After a few extreme soda binges... a few patients have needed medical attention for skin lesions, memory loss and nerve disorders, all symptoms of overexposure to bromine,' according to an article in Environmental News."

Glyphosate at 15:00

Seneff: “I gave this presentation last week in Toronto on vaccines and glyphosate. It reflects my latest research on the topic, and I mention some of the recent papers and books that strengthen the case against both vaccines and glyphosate.”

“The greatest doctors of the world know the medical theory of immunization and contagious diseases is as false as false can be. But they dare not speak out; and as long as the practice makes money for those who sponsor it and people can be persuaded to believe in it, there will be no change.” Professor Hilton Hotema, 1970

"I haven't used RoundUp since 1977," said Phil Coturri, the Sonoma vineyard manager who was recognized by the Golden Gate Salmon Association earlier this year for his environmentally sound viticulture. "You can't constantly use a product and think that it's not going to have an effect. Glyphosate is something that's made to kill."

Dr. Thierry Vrain, Former Pro-GMO Scientist, Speaks Up Against Glyphosate

Dr. Thierry Vrain, former genetic engineer and soil biologist with Agriculture Canada, spoke with us today about his concerns with genetically engineered crops (GMOs) and more importantly, the use of Glyphosate (RoundUp). Dr. Vrain’s background in the field of genetic engineering (for 30 years), makes him an expert on this gene technology. He explained how a cell is genetically engineered and what happens after this random insertion process through a gene gun and how it can have unknown effects.

Since leaving Agriculture Canada 12 years ago, he has learned much more about the process of genetic engineering and the BT process (insect resistant) and the HT (herbicide resistant) crops that make up about 500 million acres. His primary concern at this time is the widespread use of Glyphosate which is a powerful herbicide, mineral chelator and a patented antibiotic. Dr. Vrain stated when speaking about Glyphosate:

“It’s almost as if the entire population of North American is on a low-grade antibiotic diet day in day out from birth, everyday, so this is the reality.”

Samsel: “Glyphosate is found in all animals eating contaminated foods. This was already established by Samsel and published by Samsel and Seneff in the science literature years ago. Glyphosate causes cancer in all animals including humans. The animals are not getting Glyphosate through their skin or paws unless they are walking through freshly sprayed areas or being sprayed and then it is very minimal. Glyphosate is mainly ingested and 30-35% of each and every dose of Glyphosate from every feeding accumulates and compounds with circulation in the bloodstream reaching a plateau. 70% is eliminated in the urine and feces. 1 to 1-1/2% becomes part of the protein tissues of the animals, with all tissues and there no are exceptions.”

Opponents in glyphosate toxicity issue each claim they have "sound science"

Update Feb. 9, 2018: We asked Dr. Anthony Samsel, a totally independent research scientist, for a brief comment on the hearing and its apparent purpose of discrediting the IARC conclusion. Dr. Samsel has conducted years of glyphosate physiology research in his own lab; plus having exclusive access to all of the commissioned research study results which Monsanto provided the U.S. government to achieve glyphosate registration. Here's Dr. Samsel's response, along with links he provided to further evidence:

This statement to the Congressional SST committee is blatantly false.

I have posted links to ResearchGate for the Haemangio-endothelioma data from that study. This is a nice companion to the Lymphoma data I posted after my appearance and testimony at the California OEHHA hearing against Monsanto in June of 2017. I identified Lymphoma tumors in 14 tissues. The lymphoma tumor type was found only in female rats and not the control animals of the Monsanto rat study of 1981.

Remember that the EPA toxicologist William Dykstra found kidney tumors in that same mouse study problematic and raised the issue definitively: "Review of the mouse oncogenicity study indicates that glyphosate is oncogenic, producing renal tubule adenomas, a rare tumor, in a dose-related manner.” These incidences of kidney tumors in mice exposed to glyphosate were significant to raise flags and they do have the potential to be harmful to other organs and tissues.

Well, I now raise the issue of Haemangio- tumors. In fact 14 of them.

The EPA, IARC, European agency, Tarone, Portier and others all missed the significance of these data. If the kidney cancer data was significant to raise warning flags and rightly classify it a probable carcinogen, then certainly these statistically significant tumors will, too.

These data show that glyphosate and not Roundup cause these cancers. In my humble opinion, these tumors may have more specifically been caused by the N-nitrosamines of glyphosate, but glyphosate is certainly at the root of progression.”

Glyphosate pathways to modern diseases VI: Prions, amyloidoses and autoimmune neurological diseases - Samsel and Seneff - 2017

Abstract: Usage of the herbicide glyphosate on core crops in the USA has increased exponentially over the past two decades, in step with the exponential increase in autoimmune diseases including autism, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, coeliac disease, neuromyelitis optica and many others. In this paper we explain how glyphosate, acting as a non-coding amino acid analogue of glycine, could erroneously be integrated with or incorporated into protein synthesis in place of glycine, producing a defective product that resists proteolysis. Whether produced by a microbe or present in a food source, such a peptide could lead to autoimmune disease through molecular mimicry. We discuss similarities in other naturally produced disease-causing amino acid analogues, such as the herbicide glufosinate and the insecticide L-canavanine, and provide multiple examples of glycine-containing short peptides linked to autoimmune disease, particularly with respect to multiple sclerosis. Most disturbing is the presence of glyphosate in many popular vaccines including the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, which we have verified here for the first time. Contamination may come through bovine protein, bovine calf serum, bovine casein, egg protein and/or gelatin. Gelatin sourced from the skin and bones of pigs and cattle given glyphosate-contaminated feed contains the herbicide. Collagen, the principal component of gelatin, contains very high levels of glycine, as do the digestive enzymes: pepsin, trypsin and lipase. The live measles virus could produce glyphosate-containing haemagglutinin, which might induce an autoimmune attack on myelin basic protein, commonly observed in autism. Regulatory agencies urgently need to reconsider the risks associated with the indiscriminate use of glyphosate to control weeds.

Glyphosate pathways to modern diseases V: Amino acid analogue of glycine in diverse proteins - 2016 - Samsel and Seneff

Abstract: Glyphosate, a synthetic amino acid and analogue of glycine, is the most widely used biocide on the planet. Its presence in food for human consumption and animal feed is ubiquitous. Epidemiological studies have revealed a strong correlation between the increasing incidence in the United States of a large number of chronic diseases and the increased use of glyphosate herbicide on corn, soy and wheat crops. Glyphosate, acting as a glycine analogue, may be mistakenly incorporated into peptides during protein synthesis. A deep search of the research literature has revealed a number of protein classes that depend on conserved glycine residues for proper function. Glycine, the smallest amino acid, has unique properties that support flexibility and the ability to anchor to the plasma membrane or the cytoskeleton. Glyphosate substitution for conserved glycines can easily explain a link with diabetes, obesity, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary edema, adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease, prion diseases, lupus, mitochondrial disease, non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma, neural tube defects, infertility, hypertension, glaucoma, osteoporosis, fatty liver disease and kidney failure. The correlation data together with the direct biological evidence make a compelling case for glyphosate action as a glycine analogue to account for much of glyphosate’s toxicity. Glufosinate, an analogue of glutamate, likely exhibits an analogous toxicity mechanism. There is an urgent need to find an effective and economical way to grow crops without the use of glyphosate and glufosinate as herbicides.

U.S. Government Lifts Ban on Making Viruses More Deadly and Transmissible

"Gain-of-function" research, in which scientists make pathogens more powerful or easily transmissible, is aimed at preventing disease outbreaks by better understanding how they might occur. The studies allow scientists, working in a highly controlled environment, to learn how a flu virus might mutate into a superbug capable of killing millions—a sort of game of wits played to gain insight into nature's unpredictability. The ultimate goal is to proactively create vaccines, medications and other solutions to stop contagion in its tracks.

The new National Institutes of Health policy reverses a 2014 Obama administration funding ban on gain-of-function research projects specifically involving all forms of the influenza virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The new rules would extend beyond those viruses, "apply[ing] to any pathogen that could potentially cause a pandemic," according to the New York Times. "For example, they would apply to a request to create an Ebola virus transmissible through the air."

Possibly aware that this sounds like the prologue to a very hacky horror movie, the NIH accompanied its announcement with a list of criteria that proposals must meet before funding will be granted. According to those terms, a panel will only greenlight projects if the work promises to yield practical solutions, such as an effective antiviral treatment; the research benefits must sufficiently outweigh the risks; and researchers must prove their experiment outcomes cannot be obtained using safer methodologies. Contenders will also have to prove their researchers and facilities "have the capacity to do the work safety and securely and to respond rapidly if there are any accidents, protocol lapses, or security breaches."

Seneff: “New Open Access paper on post concussion syndrome (e.g., football brain injuries). The author singles out glyphosate and fluoride as playing a potentially pivotal role. Conclusion...In response to the question “do individuals with high level of exposure to environmental toxins have different brains or physiology, which in turn affects how they respond to further brain insults and injury,” the author has detailed pivotal mechanisms of altered physiology brought on by environmental toxicants that would result in a hyperresponse to subsequent brain injury, in individuals with high cumulative or synergistic levels of environmental toxicant exposure and/or significant modulating factors related to brain resilience.

Diminished brain resilience, a concept lightly touched on in this paper, describes a constellation of factors that conceivably predisposes one to increased susceptibility to various brain injury and downstream neurodegeneration (Figure 2)...

Critical Review of the Effects of Glyphosate Exposure to the Environment and Humans through the Food Supply Chain = 2018

Abstract: ...The conflict between the two organizations of the World Health Organization triggered many doubts, and for this reason, a series of independent studies were launched to better understand what glyphosate’s danger to humans and the environment really was. The results have brought to light how massive use of the herbicide has created over time a real global contamination that has not only affected the soil, surface and groundwater as well as the atmosphere, but even food and commonly used objects, such as diapers, medical gauze, and absorbent for female intimate hygiene. How human health is compromised as a result of glyphosate exposure is a topic that is still very debatable and still unclear and unambiguous. This paper is a review of the results of the main independent recent scientific studies.

Conclusions: Despite numerous studies regarding the dangers resulting from the extensive use of glyphosate, it is not possible to attribute a clear and unambiguous definition to glyphosate, especially regarding its potentially harmful effects on humans. Resuming and analyzing each treated subject, it is concluded that the massive use of glyphosate, given its chemical-physical properties and its presence in many commercial products, even in the form of more toxic mixtures than the single molecule, should be reduced. This could be achieved by implementing resources and funding dedicated to alternative solutions to the herbicide. However, diffusion is unfortunately not yet advanced due to the huge economic interest in the market for herbicides.

It is also evident that new studies and independent research must be performed in order to clearly define the seriousness of glyphosate exposure to carcinogenicity and genotoxicity. In fact, there is a too great a discrepancy between the opinions of the various scientific institutions, mainly because of their different economic and social interests. The controversy and the debate are expected to continue. Recently, the European Union Appeals Committee, made up of representatives of all the member states, approved a further five years authorization for the use of glyphosate (December 2017). The decision was marked by debate and there was a split in the vote within the Commission (for example, Italy and France not favorable, Germany favorable).

It is certain, however, that the population and the environment must be better protected, especially through the endorsement of new rules and limitations regarding the chemical in question. It is the duty of the institutions to place the “precautionary principle” before economic interests, namely the protection of citizens and the environment from exposure to a substance whose side effects are not yet known.

Are You Eating Glyphosate? How Organic Farming Can Help

The problem is that the presence of GMOs is not the only concern when it comes to food safety. “GMO free” labeling is sometimes used to provide a distraction from other, less complementary truths about how a food product like oatmeal is produced. And that’s where glyphosate comes in.

Hidden Glyphosates

When used as a desiccant, glyphosate is sprayed only on non-GMO crops (because GMO crops would not be killed by it), and it is applied very close to the harvest window, affording little time for the chemical to break down before it is scooped up with the grain and processed into food.

Let’s say that crop is oats and the food product is plain oatmeal. If no artificial flavors are added, a company has the legal right to label it “natural”. Because GMO oats don’t exist, they also have the right to label that product “GMO free”. Since the FDA does not regularly test for glyphosate residue in food or require its use to appear on the product label, the story appears to end there: natural and GMO free sounds pretty good, even if it’s not certified organic.

Because the practice of using glyphosate as a desiccant is widespread, its residues are likely to wind up in certain foods. In 2016, the FDA released test results finding glyphosate residues in a number of grain products. Independent studies have made similar findings. This combination of glyphosate use on non-GMO crops and misleading labeling led to a lawsuit filed against a major cereal company last spring.

Whatever you do, don’t put all your faith in non-GMO labelling. While you may want to avoid GMOs in your food, that label only tells part of the story. If the product is a non-organic grain or bean product, the hidden part of that story is that it was likely sprayed with glyphosate a few weeks before harvest.

Science for sale - The Weinberg Group

Congress: Science for Sale? - 2008

Congress is investigating a Washington, D.C.-based firm which critics charge "manufactures uncertainty" on behalf of chemical companies to help keep their products free from government bans or other restrictions.

"The tactics apparently employed by the Weinberg Group raise serious questions about whether science is for sale at these consulting groups," said Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, in a statement Wednesday. His panel is heading up the probe.

The Weinberg Group may play a role in arranging just the kinds of expert panels and scientific research the chemical industry points to in defense of its products, Dingell suggested.

The chairman pointed to a confidential Weinberg Group document published in 2006, in which the firm suggested to DuPont de Nemours & Company several ways it could help "shape the debate" about one of its chemical products. The firm proposed developing "blue-ribbon panels," "constructing a study to establish" that DuPont's chemical was safe, and arranging the publication of papers "dispelling the alleged nexus" between the company's chemical and its alleged harmful effects on humans.

"We will harness...the scientific and intellectual capital of our company with one goal in mind -- creating the outcome our client desires," the 2003 letter stated. The company reportedly confirmed the authenticity of the letter to the publication which revealed it, Environmental Science & Technology.

The Science Fraud Industry: Weinberg Group Inc. - 2014

There are a few firms, but among the worst is the Weinberg Group. Weinberg has been hired by DuPont, the tobacco industry, makers of Agent Orange, and makers of asbestos to “develop legal defense campaigns, ostensibly based on science, to sway juries during trials, to counteract potential regulatory oversight, and to influence [public opinion] about the health effects of products,” reported Environmental Science & Technology Online News (ES&T).

A 2003 letter that was confirmed to authenticate a relationship between Weinberg and DuPont illustrates Weinberg’s practice of falsifying science and purchase of scientific opinion.

Science is for sale. Here is the Weinberg Group description from their page.

The Weinberg Group is the global leader in regulatory and compliance services, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. For over 34 years, we have provided biotech, medical device and pharmaceutical consulting services to companies of every size on every continent, supplying them with viable and efficient drug development pathways and compliance solutions.

Environmental Science & Technology Online News, February 21, 2006 - THE WEINBERG PROPOSAL

Most scientists are completely in the dark when it comes to understanding how corporations manipulate science, says David Ozonoff, chair of the department of environmental health at Boston University. Ozonoff, who spent years studying the asbestos industry, recalls, "I went into [studying the asbestos issue] really thinking that industry can have its own interpretation of the scientific findings. It was the sociology of science and the social construction of knowledge, and they would naturally tend to emphasize certain things while workers would look at the same things differently." But as he sifted through letters and documents that came to light during court cases, Ozonoff found evidence that corporate executives had not only known for decades that asbestos was dangerous but they had outlined and put into practice a defense strategy to protect their product and company profits. "It was planned out in the documents in black and white," he says. "They thought nobody would ever see it."

"I have somewhat the same reaction to this letter," he said about the Weinberg memo to DuPont. "These are things that we know are going on."

For example, the Weinberg letter lists a series of proposed tasks designed to limit liability, including the recruitment of scientific experts on PFOA "so as to develop a premium expert panel and concurrently conflict out experts from consulting with plaintiffs." Experts who worked for DuPont through the Weinberg Group would have been unable to testify for plaintiffs.

"They're offering to get rid of inconvenient witnesses for the other side," says Ozonoff. He adds that he has received similar requests in the past from lawyers asking him to consult on cases. "I wouldn't have to testify," he says, "but I knew right away what they were doing was trying to conflict me out of a case."

The Weinberg Group also wrote the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) 2005 position paper on endocrine disrupters [448KB PDF]. ACC is the lobbying group for chemical manufacturers. One of the two coauthors of the report is James Lamb, who is an employee of the Weinberg Group and has also worked for industry on other chemicals such as perchlorate. In January, when the state of California held hearings to debate the health risks and possible use restrictions for six phthalates and bisphenol-A -- suspected endocrine disrupters -- in baby toys, Lamb testified that the chemicals were safe.

Vom Saal has been under attack for his work that finds that bisphenol- A poses endocrine-disrupting health risks to humans. In January 2005, the journal Environmental Health Perspectives published a letter criticizing vom Saal's recent research on bisphenol-A (Environ. Health Perspect. 2006, 114 [1], A16-A17). The letter was signed by Joseph Politch, a research associate in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Boston University. Because of the journal's conflict-of- interest policy, Politch's letter noted that he was a consultant for the Weinberg Group.

But Glantz has studied Big Tobacco's impact on his profession for more than a decade, and he sees a much bigger problem looming for science. As the federal government cuts back on funding for research, scientists are now forced to rely more and more on financial assistance from corporations; this raises troubling questions about whether the results from these studies will be impartial and objective or favorable to the companies that paid for them.

"The whole scientific enterprise is being distorted by these corporate interests," Glantz says. "That's why it is so important that we have a healthy academic community, to be a voice that isn't being controlled.

Another since-deleted case study investigators say they found told how the firm "debunked" cancer research indicating certain hair dye increased users' cancer risk. A third that investigators shared with ABC News related to how the Weinberg Group won its client the right to continue using chlorofluorocarbons, which are known to harm the environment, despite a global ban covering most sources of the substances.

Studies Link Canine Cancers to Lawn Chemicals

The study found “Chemicals were detected in the urine of dogs in 14 of 25 households before lawn treatment, in 19 of 25 households after lawn treatment, and in 4 of 8 untreated households. Chemicals were commonly detected in grass residues from treated lawns, and from untreated lawns suggesting chemical drift from nearby treated areas.”

Another study found herbicide 2,4-D contaminants inside and throughout homes both prior to and after outdoor application. The study is evidence that pets absorb and track lawn chemicals, and lawn chemicals travel from their intended targets. The study concluded “removal of shoes at the door and the activity level of the children and pets were the most significant factors affecting residue levels indoors after application.”

...MMR contains neither mercury nor aluminum, two ingredients in other vaccines that are highly neurotoxic. However, MMR has significantly more gelatin than the other vaccines, and that is its Achilles' heel. In this talk, I will explain how glyphosate contamination in the vaccine, most likely from the gelatin, is leading to an autoimmune attack on the myelin sheath, which disrupts long-distance transport among nerve fibers, contributing to autism.

Insect Decimation Upstages Global Warming

Significantly, insects are the primary source for ecosystem creation and support. The world literally crumbles apart without mischievous burrowing, forming new soil, aerating soil, pollinating food crops, etc. Nutrition for humans happens because insects pollinate.

One of the world’s best and oldest entomological resources is Krefeld Entomological Society (est. 1905) tracking insect abundance at more than 100 nature reserves. They first noticed a significant drop off of insects in 2013 when the total mass of catch fell by 80%. Again, in 2014 the numbers were just as low. Subsequently, the society discovered huge declines in several observation sites throughout Western Europe.

Dr. Hyman: 'Your Fork is the Most Powerful Tool to Transform Your Health and Change the World'

OCA: I love the food is medicine connection you make in your book. Can you elaborate on what you mean by this?

Dr. Hyman: Food contains information that speaks to our genes, not just calories for energy. We are learning from research in the field of nutrigenomics, that good “talks” to our DNA, switching on or off genes that lead to health or disease. Every bite of food regulates your gene expression, hormones, immune system, brain chemistry and even your microbiome. What you eat programs your body with messages of health or illness. This is what I mean by food is medicine.

OCA: How is the current industrial food system responsible for chronic diseases and epidemics like diabetes, obesity and allergies?

Dr. Hyman: The food industry includes seed producers, factory farmers, food growers, and the processed food and fast food industries. These organizations spend millions of dollars each year on lobbying to influence our Department of Agriculture. And there’s a huge problem with this. Our dietary guidelines are actually created by the Department of Agriculture, the same agency that is in charge of deciding which crops our tax dollars subsidize! Seems like a big conflict of interest to me.

This results in subsidies that support commodity crops—corn, wheat and soy—which get turned into high fructose corn syrup, white flour and soybean oil. Even though more than half our diet comes from these three crops which are the building blocks of sugar-sweetened drinks and processed foods, they are definitely not what we should be eating. Yet, 99 percent of the government’s food subsidies go to support these crops, while only 1 percent goes for “specialty” crops—fruits and veggies. If these are “specialty crops,” then why does the government tell us to eat 5-9 servings a day? The truth is that our government is funding our chronic disease epidemic.

And the food industry heavily markets poor-quality foods designed to be addictive.

OCA: Can you explain how the health of our soil impacts the health of humans?...

Internal Documents Show Coke Had Profits in Mind When It Funded Nutrition 'Science'

In a report published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health (JECH), Coca-Cola officials’ own words establish that their intent in funding the Global Energy Balance Network (GEBN), a non-profit organization nominally devoted to promoting education and science, was to advance the corporate bottom line.

Internal Coca-Cola documents show that the company sought to portray GEBN as “an honest broker” in the obesity debate, and use it to-reframe the discussion on the causes of obesity. It would be a multi-faceted campaign that lobbied policymakers, funded researchers and clinical trials and “educated” health journalists and bloggers about the “energy balance” concept. GEBN’s interpretation of that concept has been widely criticized as shifting blame for the obesity crisis away from Coke’s signature sugary drinks.

Coca-Cola directly funded GEBN to the tune of $1.5 million, with millions more distributed to GEBN-affiliated academics to conduct research. It disbanded in 2015, but not before funding hundreds of suspect clinical trials.

Impaired gallbladder bile acid production (Colombato et al., 1977) and biliary cirrhosis, an inflammatory liver disease characterized by obstruction of the bile duct (Dickey et al., 1997), have been shown to co-occur with celiac disease. CYP enzymes are crucial in the production of bile acids (Lorbek et al., 2012). An obligatory CYP enzyme in bile acid synthesis, CYP27A, has been identified as being identical to the mitochondrial vitamin D3 activating enzyme (Wikvall, 2001). In (Kemppainen et al., 1999), 64% of men and 71% of women with celiac disease were found to be vitamin D3 deficient, manifested as low spinal bone mineral density. Celiac disease is associated with impaired gallbladder function and decreased pancreatic secretions (Brown et al., 1987; Benini et al., 2012) along with recurrent pancreatitis (Patel et al., 1999). Abnormalities in bile acid secretion have been found in children suffering from celiac disease (Ejderhamn et al., 1992). Celiac patients exhibit abnormally low synthesis of cholecystokinin (Deprez et al., 2002), but it has also become apparent that the gall bladder is less responsive to stimulation of contraction by cholecystokinin (Brown et al., 1987). A reversible defect of gallbladder emptying and cholecystokinin release has been identified in association with celiac disease (Maton et al., 1985). These pathologies may be related to impaired CYP enzyme activity induced by glyphosate.

House Committee’s Farm Bill Would Make It Easier for Millionaires to Get Subsidies

The new bill also loosens restrictions for family farms. Previously, the children, siblings and spouse of a farmer could also receive subsidies. But the bill adds cousins, nieces and nephews to the list of family members who can get up to $125,000 a year. And because of lax eligibility rules, these passive family members don’t have to lift a finger on the farm to receive a payment.

Instead of taking this opportunity to tighten the subsidy loopholes that were established in the 2014 Farm Bill, the House Agriculture Committee’s bill only creates more loopholes. These loopholes will further concentrate farm subsidies to the wealthiest and most successful farms, instead of helping the farmers who actually need them.

Gilles-Eric Seralini, Ph.D. - He’s on Facebook

Seralini is the French scientist who did the long-term rat study that found that Glyphosate caused tumors and told us that “the other ingredients in Glyphosate are a thousand times toxic.” Like Andy Wakefield (MMR vaccine), corporations, in Seralini’s case, Monsanto, didn’t like what Seralini found and tried to ruin his reputation and career. Like Wakefield, Seralini sued and won his court case against the people that tried to defame him. You can read all about the Seralini’s team’s studies and about the court case on his website.

7. Séralini’s study showed that 90-day tests commonly done on GM foods are not long enough to see long-term effects like cancer, organ damage, and premature death. The first tumours only appeared 4-7 months into the study.

9. Long-term tests on GM foods are not required by regulators anywhere in the world.

Hilbeck commented on the attacks on Séralini’s research and the vested interests behind many of them: “Such attacks on scientists who highlight risks of GM plants are normal. It’s always the same industry-linked GM proponents who immediately try to defame the critical studies and their authors in a concerted campaign. This is about money.

“Now they’re pointing the large caliber weapons at Séralini, because his feeding study focused on the health of animals, which in turn serve as a model for humans.”

Organic Consumers Association Statement on DOJ Approval of Bayer-Monsanto Deal

“We are disappointed though not surprised by the DOJ’s decision to allow Germany-based Bayer to buy Monsanto. The monopolistic and criminal histories of both Monsanto and Bayer have been well documented. Allowing these two companies to merge into the world’s largest seed and pesticide company spells disaster for consumers, for the environment and for farmers who will now have even fewer choices.

“In the end, it really doesn't matter who manufactures or sells Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller, or any other dangerous chemical. The damage to human health and the environment remains the same, as does OCA’s commitment to getting these chemicals out of our food system.

“The industrial chemical agriculture model, where factory farms and GMO monoculture crops have produced unhealthy food while poisoning the environment and creating a nightmare of superweeds and superbugs is not the future of food. We will continue to promote an alternative organic regenerative model that truly nourishes the world while restoring the ecosystem."

The $66 billion Bayer-Monsanto merger just got a major green light -- but farmers are terrified

"Let's just cut to the chase: These companies want to make more money, they want to raise prices," Mark Connelly, an agriculture analyst at the brokerage and investment group CLSA Americas, previously told Business Insider. "No company in this industry needs these deals in order to innovate."

Todd Eney, a fourth-generation farmer in central Montana, previously told Business Insider that as suppliers of seeds and chemicals have become more consolidated, he hasn't seen many benefits.

"These corporate bigwigs, are they really going to do what they say?" he said. "Our farm has been out here since 1935, and I'm 40 years old and I've watched a lot of small family farms in our area go under. They can't compete because they can't pay the price of input because of what these companies are wanting to charge for input now."

Environmental Exposure to Glyphosate and Reproductive Health Impacts in Agricultural Population of Argentina - Received: January 18, 2018; Accepted: March 23, 2018; Published: March 26, 2018

ABSTRACT: Argentina annually utilizes 240,000 tons of glyphosate in industrial agriculture and a change in the profile of morbidity is perceived for physicians of agricultural areas; now reproductive disorders seem to prevail. The objective of this study is to determine concurrence of glyphosate exposure and reproductive disorders in a typical argentine agricultural town (Monte Maíz). An ecological study was developed with an environmental analysis of pollution sources including measurements of glyphosate and other pesticides and a cross-sectional study of spontaneous abortions and congenital abnormalities prevalence. Glyphosate was detected in soil and grain dust and was found to be at an even higher concentration in the village soil than in the rural area; 650 tonnes of glyphosate are used annually in the region and manipulated inner town contaminating the soil and dust in suspension of the town creating an burden of environmental exposure to glyphosate of 79 kg per person per year. We do not find other relevant sources of pollution. The spontaneous abortion and congenital abnormalities rates are three and two times higher than the national average reported by the national health (10% vs. 3% and 3% - 4.3% vs 1.4% respectively). Our study verified high environmental exposure to glyphosate in association with increased frequencies of reproductive disorders (spontaneous abortion and congenital abnormalities) in argentine agricultural village, but is unable to make assertions cause-effect. Further studies are required with designs for such purposes.

USDA Reapproves Carrageenan for Use in Organics, Ignores Its Own Experts

“Iconic brands in the organic industry, like Organic Valley, Stonyfield, and Eden Foods, all looked at the research, listened to the concerns of their customers, and purged carrageenan from their products,” stated Dr. Linley Dixon, Senior Scientist at The Cornucopia Institute.

Most of Tobacman’s published research was funded by the National Institutes of Health. She added, “It is unconscionable to permit the continued use of carrageenan in organic foods after this decisive vote, and reflects the impact of commercial interests over science.”

The carrageenan industry, funding its own research, has long claimed that food-grade carrageenan and poligeenan (a known carcinogen) are two distinctly different substances. The industry still denies that food-grade carrageenan contains poligeenan, however, their own data and the publicly funded scientific research has shown otherwise.

EWG's 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce - Hot Peppers make the dirty dozen list

The USDA tests found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticide breakdown products on the thousands of produce samples analyzed. EWG's analysis of the tests shows that there are stark differences among various types of produce. The Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce™ lists the Dirty Dozen™ fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residues, and the Clean Fifteen™, for which few, if any, residues were detected.

Because federal law does not require labeling of genetically engineered produce, EWG advises people who want to avoid GMO crops to purchase organically grown sweet corn, papayas, zucchini and yellow squash. For processed foods, look for items that are certified organic or bear the Non-GMO Project Verified label. EWG recommends that consumers check EWG's Shopper's Guide to Avoiding GMO Food, Food Scores database and EWG's Healthy Living app, which can help identify foods likely to contain genetically engineered ingredients. GMO labeling is important because agribusinesses are currently testing other varieties of GMO crops, which the USDA may approve in the future.

Geneticist David Suzuki Says Humans “Are Part of a Massive Experiment”

“By slipping it into our food without our knowledge, without any indication that there are genetically modified organisms in our food, we are now unwittingly part of a massive experiment.”

He continued:

“The FDA has said that genetically modified organisms are not much different from regular food, so they’ll be treated in the same way. The problem is this, geneticists follow the inheritance of genes, what biotechnology allows us to do is to take this organism, and move it horizontally into a totally unrelated species.

Now David Suzuki doesn’t normally mate with a carrot and exchange genes, what biotechnology allows us to do is to switch genes from one to the other without regard to the biological constraints.

It’s very very bad science, we assume that the principals governing the inheritance of genes vertically, applies when you move genes laterally or horizontally. There’s absolutely no reason to make that conclusion.”

More organic than thou? Rebel farmers create new food label

Under the current U.S. Department of Agriculture program, the organic label means that your tomato has been produced without synthetic substances — with some exceptions — and without certain methods, like genetic engineering. The additional label, which does not yet have a name or wording, would indicate that a tomato, for example, has been grown in soil, and that meat and dairy products came from farms that pasture their animals.

An inspector would certify that the farm has complied with the new standards, and the farms — not distributors — would add the label.

Banned Monsanto Chemical Could Be the Final Nail in the Coffin for Monarch Butterfly Population, New Report Warns

The report, titled ‘Dicamba: ‘A Menace to Monarchs,’ was released by the Center for Biological Diversity, and said that the decline of the butterflies in recent decades has coinicided with the surge in GMO crops that are resistant to glyphosate, Monsanto’s controversial cancer-linked herbicide.
Monsanto insists its products are safe citing government regulatory approvals, but a huge amount of research contradicts their assertions, others point out.

The urgent Monarch butterfly situation has been exasperated by the adoption of dicamba, which was approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2016 in order to combat the growing problem of glyphosate-resistant weeds.

Zach Bush, MD Describes Factors Leading to Electrosensitivity and the Importance of Repairing the Extracellular Matrix

Dr. Zach Bush of Revolution Health and Biomic Sciences in Charlottesville, VA speaking at the Global Foundation for Integrative Medicines conference in October 2016 as part of the EMF Panel Q&A. Dr. Bush describes the loss of bacterial communication in our bodies from modern food and farming practices, the ravages from the weedkiller glyphosate, that worsens it, and the importance of addressing and repairing the extracellular matrix in order to heal from electrosensitivity and the common leaky membranes and autoimmunity that accompanies it.

Changing Faces: The Consequences of Exposure to Gene and Thyroid Disrupting Toxins Paperback – November 20, 2017 by Judy Hoy

Judy, a biologist, wildlife researcher and wildlife rehabilitator along with her husband Bob, a biologist and Montana game warden (now retired), began observing new birth defects and health issues in mammals and birds in western Montana the spring of 1995. This book chronicles over 20 years of observations regarding the changes in the faces and the vital organs of vertebrate newborns now being observed throughout North America. Included is discussion of how people and other animals, plants, and the entire biodiversity of our planet are being dangerously affected by a combination of factors, one being recent excessive use of specific herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. What we can do to mitigate these devastating changes is addressed in the sincere hope that positive action will be taken before it is too late. Mass extinctions are already occurring as a result of the changes humans are causing to the face of the planet. This book is somewhat like "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson, but is not as technical and has lots of photos to illustrate the birth defects and health issues, along with stories of individual animals. In the process of rehabilitating wildlife, Judy discovered how to correct certain defects such as underdeveloped bones, particularly those facial bones which result in underbite and overbite, allowing normal growth. She also discovered how to mitigate certain other health issues such as how to heal broken bones in mammals and birds in about half the usual time. The stories of the individual animals, which prompted her discoveries, are in this book in the hope that others can also be helped.

Seneff: “New open access paper just out linking autism to Clostridia overgrowth caused by glyphosate exposure!”

Clostridium Bacteria and Autism Spectrum Conditions: A Systematic Review and Hypothetical Contribution of Environmental Glyphosate Levels, Published: 4 April 2018

Abstract: Nowadays, there seems to be a consensus about the multifactorial nature of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The literature provides hypotheses dealing with numerous environmental factors and genes accounting for the apparently higher prevalence of this condition. Researchers have shown evidence regarding the impact of gut bacteria on neurological outcomes, altering behavior and potentially affecting the onset and/or severity of psychiatric disorders. Pesticides and agrotoxics are also included among this long list of ASD-related environmental stressors. Of note, ingestion of glyphosate (GLY), a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide, can reduce beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract microbiota without exerting any effects on the Clostridium population, which is highly resistant to this herbicide. In the present study, (i) we performed a systematic review to evaluate the relationship between Clostridium bacteria and the probability of developing and/or aggravating autism among children. For that purpose, electronic searches were performed on Medline/PubMed and Scielo databases for identification of relevant studies published in English up to December 2017. Two independent researches selected the studies and analyzed the data. The results of the present systematic review demonstrate an interrelation between Clostridium bacteria colonization of the intestinal tract and autism. Finally, (ii) we also hypothesize about how environmental GLY levels may deleteriously influence the gut–brain axis by boosting the growth of Clostridium bacteria in autistic toddlers.

Big Win!!!

California Defeats Monsanto in Court to List Glyphosate as Carcinogen

A California Appellate Court sided with the State of California and Center for Food Safety (CFS) on Thursday, affirming that Monsanto’s glyphosate pesticide can be listed as a known carcinogen under Proposition 65.

“This is a huge win for all Californians—and a huge loss for Monsanto—as it upholds our right to protect ourselves and our environment from unnecessary and unwanted exposure to the dangerous chemical, glyphosate,” said Adam Keats, senior attorney at CFS.

“All California consumers have the right to know that glyphosate is considered a probable carcinogen, and Proposition 65 ensures that the public obtains that knowledge,” concluded Rebecca Spector, West Coast Director at Center for Food Safety. ”We are pleased that the California Appellate Court prevented Monsanto’s attempt to keep the public in the dark about potential hazards from their products.”

And in case you forgot…

Glyphosate Found in Childhood Vaccines

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's flagship herbicide Roundup and hundreds of other herbicides, has been found in vaccines. Moms Across America received preliminary screening results from Microbe Inotech Laboratories Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, which showed:

MMR II (Merk) vaccine had 2.671 parts per billion (ppb) of glyphosate
DTap Adacel (Sanofi Pasteur) vaccine had 0.123 ppb of glyphosate
Influenza Fluvirin (Novaris) 0.331 ppb of glyphosate
HepB Energix-B (Glaxo Smith Kline) 0.325 ppb of glyphosate
Pneumonoccal Vax Polyvalent Pneumovax 23 (Merk) had 0.107 ppb of glyphosate

The MMR II vaccine had levels up to 25 times higher than the other vaccines. Following our test, additional independent tests have confirmed these findings at or above the same levels…

According to MIT scientist Dr. Stephanie Seneff, "Glyphosate could easily be present in vaccines due to the fact that certain vaccine viruses including measles in MMR and flu are grown on gelatin derived from the ligaments of pigs fed heavy doses of glyphosate in their GMO feed. Gelatin comes from collagen which has lots of glycine. Livestock feed is allowed to have up to 400 PPM [parts per million] of glyphosate residues by the EPA, thousands of times higher than has been shown to cause harm in numerous studies."

French scientist and glyphosate expert Gilles-Eric Séralini has shown in his research that glyphosate is never used alone. It is always used with adjuvants (co-formulants/other chemicals) and he has found those adjuvants to make Roundup 1,000 times more toxic. The detection of glyphosate in vaccines with this methodology would indicate the presence of other co-formulants which are also toxic.

Glyphosate Renewal: Please comment to the EPA by April 30th…

Right now, the EPA is accepting comments from the public on whether or not they should re-register glyphosate for another 15 years. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide on the planet and the main ingredient in Roundup which you may be spraying on your lawns. This is it guys. If we don’t get our voices out, it may be another 15 years of this toxic chemical inundating our bodies, harming our children and our earth. Sending a comment is fairly easy. Even if you don’t think you know enough about this topic, don’t let that stop you! If you care about having safe food, safe water, and not getting cancer then you ARE the right person to make a comment. It can be as easy as saying, “Despite Monsanto’s claims that glyphosate is safe, there is substantial evidence to show that glyphosate plays a role in the increased incidence of many chronic illnesses in the United States.

Childhood in America today looks like this: 1 in 3 is overweight, 1 in 6 has learning disabilities, 1 in 9 has asthma, 1 in 11 has ADHD, 1 in 13 has a food allergy, 1 in 20 has seizures, 1 in 36 has autism. 54% of American children have a chronic illness or are overweight. This is the new normal.

Glyphosate is up for renewal for another 15 years. Please comment. It's easy and quick. Copy and paste and add your story. (First timers, add your info, click on Open Docket Folder. The next time you comment, you won't have to fill in any info, only your comment.)

Comment: State your health story. Gmo foods and Glyphosate are pure poison. It's families like mine that are the proof. Please stop the poisoning of American citizens. Glyphosate is destroying the planet, soil, water, bee population, and causing disease in humans. Please do not renew the license for glyphosate.

Sneak Attack on Local Pesticide Laws by Chemical and Pest Management Industry in Farm Bill Passed by House Agriculture Committee

There is an extraordinary attack on local community rights to protect people and the environment from pesticides in the Republican Farm Bill, passed by the Agriculture Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 18 on a straight party line vote. The language inserted in the Farm Bill amends the federal pesticide law with a provision that prohibits local governments from restricting pesticide use on private property within their jurisdictions. Local laws in two states, Maine and Maryland, will be overturned with final passage of this law in the U.S. House and Senate. In those 43 states that forbid local pesticide laws by state law, future reconsideration of this prohibition, pushed by the chemical and pest management industry, will be foreclosed. Local laws protecting the environment and public health have historically emerged out of local governments, with laws related to recycling, smoking, pet waste, building codes, and zoning.

Pesticide Executives Are Running Ag Policy for Donald Trump

Isley will not be the only former Dow Agrosciences exec working on Trump’s ag team to open foreign markets for US goods. Indeed, Isley’s immediate boss will be a fellow alum of the company. In the USDA organizational chart, the FAS sits within the realm of the Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs. Last year, Trump placed Ted McKinney in that position—a man who served for 19 years on Dow Agroscience’s government affairs (read: lobbying) team.

Pesticides Are Making Children Aggressive (Warren Porter, PhD)

After five years of experiments, Porter published his findings in 1999. His work is a warning that contaminated drinking water has the potential of muddling or slowing down or, in the worst case, destroying the intelligence and learning of children while making then aggressive.

As professors Porter and Guillette documented, pesticides trigger aggression, especially in children. In 1991, Porter lamented that it is impossible to have a “highly-ordered technological society if we raise a generation of children who are learning disabled and hyperaggressive.”

“*Please don’t be a smartypants and say, “Hey, all crops are genetically modified”.
Yes, yes, we have been selectively breeding plants for thousands of years.
We all know that.
But the term “GMOs” refers to the recent development of “gene splicing”
and the development of transgenic crops, creating forms of life that nature,
or selective breeding, could never have created.

Seneff: “Internal FDA emails reveal that they are finding glyphosate contamination in lots of foods. No surprise to me, but good to see that at least they are finally starting to test for it! I look forward to seeing the final published results once they come out. It is crazy that the government has been so uninterested in finding out how much glyphosate is in our food, given how widely it is used in agriculture.”

Weedkiller found in granola and crackers, internal FDA emails show by Carey Gillam

The FDA has been testing food samples for traces of glyphosate for two years, but the agency has not yet released any official results

But the internal documents obtained by the Guardian show the FDA has had trouble finding any food that does not carry traces of the pesticide.

“I have brought wheat crackers, granola cereal and corn meal from home and there’s a fair amount in all of them,” FDA chemist Richard Thompson wrote to colleagues in an email last year regarding glyphosate. Thompson, who is based in an FDA regional laboratory in Arkansas, wrote that broccoli was the only food he had “on hand” that he found to be glyphosate-free.

That internal FDA email, dated January 2017, is part of a string of FDA communications that detail agency efforts to ascertain how much of the popular weedkiller is showing up in American food. The tests mark the agency’s first-ever such examination.

Thompson’s detection of glyphosate was made as he was validating his analytical methods, meaning those residues will probably not be included in any official report.

Separately, FDA chemist Narong Chamkasem found “over-the-tolerance” levels of glyphosate in corn, detected at 6.5 parts per million, an FDA email states. The legal limit is 5.0 ppm. An illegal level would normally be reported to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), but an FDA supervisor wrote to an EPA official that the corn was not considered an “official sample”.

Other findings detailed in the FDA documents show that in 2016 Chamkasem found glyphosate in numerous samples of honey. Chamkasem also found glyphosate in oatmeal products. The FDA temporarily suspended testing after those findings, and Chamkasem’s lab was “reassigned to other programs”, the FDA documents show. The FDA has said those tests were not part of its official glyphosate residue assignment.

“Even with low levels of pesticides, we’re exposed to so many and we don’t count the fact that we have cumulative exposures,” Birnbaum said.

The US Department of Agriculture was to start its own testing of foods for glyphosate residues in 2017 but dropped the plan.

The lack of government residue data comes as Monsanto attempts to bar evidence about glyphosate food residues from being introduced in court where the company is fighting off allegations its Roundup products cause cancer.

In a case set for trial on 18 June, San Francisco superior court judge Curtis Karnow recently denied the company’s motion to keep the jury from hearing about residues in food. The judge said that although Monsanto worries the information “will inflame the jury against Monsanto based on their own fear that they may have been exposed”, such information “should not be excluded”.

Glyphosate in Review

There were a series of events that took place in the mid-1970s, which have proven to be highly destructive to the health of Americans in the 21st century.

We now know that the 1977 dietary guidelines were based on flawed and fraudulent scientific research. We all were guinea pigs in a grand nationwide experiment, which has now been proven a colossal failure by scientific research. It is not saturated fat that is implicated in heart disease, but the over consumption of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, pasta, bread, and other carbohydrates, and the under consumption of healthy saturated fat. [4, 5]

We also know that the uncontrolled use of antibiotics in agriculture and in health care has been a major assault on human gut health. [6, 7] This too was another grand experiment that failed. Similarly, modern vaccines have been shown to compromise the human immune system. They have set into place multigenerational patterns of gut dysbiosis. [8] Yes, vaccines are one more grand experiment that failed. They promised disease free living, but only created more suffering.

Great article. I copied it all here, except the references, as it was kind of hard to read on his web page.

Avoiding Glyphosate - A summary of recent work in progress by Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff by By Martin C. Michener, PhD.

Reflect, please on the history of marketing and selling the “harmless” active ingredient in the weed-killer Round-up®. The company which Monsanto bought, had discovered this master-chelator could dissolve most metal scale deposits in boilers and pipes. But discharging the flush promptly produced an obvious plant killing effect.

In 1972 Monsanto began marketing Round-up® as an herbicide, with three claims which later proved to be misleading at best, untrue at worst (1). The first claim is that the mode of action was to block the Shikimic Acid pathway – a biochemical series of steps that throughout biology produces three diet-essential amino acids (AA), needed for all protein synthesis. These are the same three, out of the twenty coded for by all DNA-RNA synthesis, which contain phenolic rings: Phenylalanine (F), Tyrosine (Y) and Tryptophan (W). The second claim continued: since human biochemistry does not contain this pathway, the herbicide is harmless. This immediately raised the question: Where then do we get the three AA for all our own synthesis, and the answer is two-fold: from our diet and from our gut microbiome. Once the use of Round-up became common, crops are grown with residues, so that our diet in fact became very short of the three, F,Y and W. Worse, the residues in our food have a disastrous effect on our gut microbiome, from which we now depend for F, Y and W. Blocking the Shikimate path in your gut causes the precursors of the process to build up, and especially the toxin m-cresol, which first KILLS OFF the helpful bacteria then pathogenic bacteria take over. The Clostridium bacteria quickly over grow and produce more cresol, which they tolerate. This hostile takeover is accompanied by another disaster, far more permanent in its effect on your health: the tight junctions in the gut lining, which we depend on to seal the fluids in the gut from the blood itself, become leaky, and Crohn’s disease then permits huge molecules, like Aluminum and antigenic large chain food proteins to join the blood stream. But the drama of chronic ill health is just getting started. Most of your immune system is not only located along the gut wall from end to end, but it is linked to your private colony of microbes. This in turn, is linked to your brain, so that moods are largely dictated by the biome on a minute-by-minute basis.

As if these extensive injuries were not sufficiently distressing, glyphosate deprives the liver of its most necessary detoxification capability. It is a series called the Cytochrome P450 inducible enzymes, capable of reducing the impact of the cresol and other bacterial endotoxins (2) (3) (4).

The combination of triple disasters: unhandled toxins, loss of mood guidance and blood suddenly filled with foreign material, causes what amounts to a four-alarm fire in the immune system. Called a cytokine storm, the immune system is activated by the cytokines, and begins the week-long process of developing antibodies against food antigens, as well as hastening immune cells called to the brain, in responding to the impaired mood state. Recovery from the many problems will take from weeks to years.

At this point, the problems requiring healing are almost too many to consider in this summary. Conventional (allopathic) medicine fails in every respect because they are officially in denial that glyphosate could ever do any of these damaging processes. Their pharmaceutical masters will economically not allow such logic. Here are some of the actions which have helped many people, in a large part undertaken with holistic advisors. For the invading pathogens, restore the gut ecology; eat a complex of thousands of species of microbiome supplements matching the war-torn community. Somehow the spores must pass the acid stomach “firewall” to again establish dominance over the toxic Clostridium army – this has been accomplished by saline home lacto-fermented kraut or kimchi, rather than with sterile store foods. Cabbage and onion family ferments provide plenty of sulfur nutrients. Another approach is to flush out the phenolic toxins, then reconnect the damaged intestinal cells, by closing the tight-junctions again, to seal off the damaged blood, and reestablish the synthesis of F, Y and W to provide their lost functions. Optimally, this all may take a month or more.

We now need to consider what the loss of those three Amino Acids to all synthesis may entail. Tryptophan is the sole precursor of serotonin AND melatonin. While you may have heard of serotonin’s importance as a brain neurotransmitter for happiness and self-esteem, you may not be aware of its role in the intestine, the origin of its name in controlling peristalsis of the normal gut. Without serotonin, gut movement and mixing of food are prevented, stopping digestion. Gas builds up; cramps and pains become intolerable. Thus, to all this pain is added the toxin load, ill-mood, failing immune system, and the patient may wish she was dead.

What about Y? Tyrosine is the sole precursor for dopamine, another brain neurotransmitter essential for feeling of well-being and for planning muscle movement. Tyrosine is also precursor to melanin which darkens the skin in response to sunburn.

We now also have an explanation of the reported autopsy findings that sulfate is deficient in many brain disorders (Autism, Alzheimer’s): Glyphosate inhibits the sulfation of cholesterol and the glycosaminoglycans, both critical to cell membrane repair and health especially of muscles, blood vessels and nerves. (5) (1)

How does all this glyphosate ever enter the body? Glyphosate levels in our food chain took a monster leap upward in 1980-85, when (it being deemed so harmless) glyphosate spray was recommended to kill wheat and other grain crops, just prior to harvest. Thus the “weedicide” became instead a “cropicide” (6). Sprayed on your food at harvest-time, the chemical moves directly into the grain to where seed embryos are being pre-formed and joins the seed part which becomes flour and that we eat. So, if you ever doubted hundreds of privately paid-for tests show now that WE EAT IT! (7) (8). Such spraying of an unlicensed, untested compound on America’s grain has all the logic of injecting each slaughtered chicken with formaldehyde, based on the reasoning that the cadaver would then not rot. As we have repeatedly seen, assumptions of harmlessness have been well-paid for. The initial reports of licensing appear now all to have been written by Monsanto employees and consultants, without attribution of interest conflicts. Some relevant postings of decisions have been removed, for example

But wait! Monsanto also sells you, Roundup Ready® crop plants (R-R). Follow their predatory marketing logic: To farm and to deserve to pay such huge seed fees, you must first qualify. What happened to a free market? You must sign away all your rights TO EVER TEST OR TO SAVE these seeds. And Monsanto has developed a righteous reputation of dangerous enforcer-lawyer teams. Against millions of years of nature and man’s proud crop breeding practices, farmers now face a twisted patent authority, reserved by corporate off-shore money, thriving by the patent protection of a BOUGHT American congress. So, we now respond, what in the world is so important that users NOT be allowed to test or to ever document?

If no bacterium or plant can live with their Shikimate pathway “blocked” how can the GMO corn and soybean be “patent protected engineered” (AKA genes be altered) so as now to RESIST the claimed guarantee of the invincible Glyphosate? Warning: The plot now thickens.

We must reexamine the claim that glyphosate BLOCKS shikimate pathway, and ask “How did Monsanto UN-block the pathway which all plants and bacteria use and on which humans depend for proteins? We look more closely at this pathway.

The BLOCKED enzyme in the chain is called 5-enolpyrovyl-shikimate-3-Phosphate Synthase. (EPSPS) — such names! Monsanto looked at the genetics of all the “weeds”, which had recently defied their “patent-briefly-and-falsely-assured” master compound, and which now in a few evolutionary years had become resistant to glyphosate. These weeds got everyone’s attention and again were flooding farmers’ fields, now denied the exclusive and care-free occupation by their expensive chosen R-R crops.

Perhaps in a war-room, I do imagine they might have said to their best chemists: “Go! Do it like them weeds do it!” So, I again imagine these engineers came to realize the “blockage” claim was preposterous, and found what glyphosate actually does to EPSPS: to substitute this herbicide molecule for glycine molecule during EPSPS synthesis. Where genes coded glycine, glyphosate the destructor itself enters the incipient protein, not blocks it. Such devious mis-synthesis had never been admitted nor expected.

To make R-R crops, Monsanto took the gene sequence for EPSPS, located the code call for the normal AA glycine (Gly96), and modified it to Alanine (Gly96Ala), mimicking those offensive weeds (9). Glycine specification is swapped out for Alanine, the second most simple AA in the list of twenty. For these crops, this solved the mis-manufacture with glyphosate! But does it completely restore the synthesis of F, Y and W as well? Reportedly no, the artificial sequence now produces these AA in comparatively a poor quantity, but at least the plant doesn’t DIE from Roundup application. So, now these expensive R-R crops provide less of the three AA in your diet, but you would never guess it from the advertising, and farmers today are only held to account for their produce by the market to an aesthetic value, not the nutritional value? Or, are they?

Now knowing that claims one and two are bogus, we ask, based on knowing EPSPS is destroyed by gulping in glyphosate instead of glycine as was the DNA design until the enzyme became useless to the plants and bacteria: what of the millions of other possible proteins could be similarly destroyed? Here, the picture gets much darker, because evidence has been now obtained by analysis, again by Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff (10). If the code for glycine now inserts glyphosate in ONE protein, what about the accuracy of the 100,000 other proteins we code and daily depend on for mere life within the human genome? Our medical establishment cannot just go in to reengineer the DNA of every person in the planet, let alone all the plants and wildlife on the earth, and look for and replace every glycine code with an alanine code!! Especially now economically as medicine is in complete denial about food nutrition and contaminants.

Anthony Samsel has evidence about to be published, which he has allowed me to share with a wide audience, giving proper credit. We may hear the expression: “You are what you ate.” Well, if informed people refuse to eat glyphosate-contaminated foods, what about feed that our confined livestock may have eaten (their having no such choice of refusal)? What if the meat and fat from slaughtered livestock has also been mismanufactured, and we are consuming meals with (now-hidden-inside proteins) glyphosate, perhaps to be released as the proteins in our food are digested, thence damaging our gut and starting the horrible cycle anew? Such protein from the local store would actually test glyphosate free (bound in a long protein chains), and the danger would only emerge after eating and the toxic digestion had begun. Mismanufacturing our own connective tissues with included glyphosate might predict rising connective tissue failure rates. How many elbow, hip and knee surgeries have you had in your family recently? How many needed to be redone?

But we haven’t even discussed Monsanto’s third claim: that glyphosate is readily broken down and does not accumulate in the soil. A lawsuit in France proved Monsanto simply boldly lied about this one; it is out there, Ralph!

We now have agricultural soils all over the world, contaminated especially in natural clays for decades, not for the days or weeks as claimed. Crops planted thereon are likely to slowly take up these residues, at sub-lethal levels, especially as it may be found now in mammalian structural proteins, such as collagen, actin, chondroitin, keratin, myosin, on which we rely for nutrition. These proteins are coded for many glycine entries, possible sites for glyphosate substitution.

In the cell protein manufacturing — in the endoplasmic reticulum — why do these two AA get mixed up? Glyphosate’s proper chemical name is N-methyl-phosphonyl-glycine. Note the parent derivative name.

In commercial manufacturing, common glycine, COOH-CH2-NH2 is conceptually converted to glyphosate by attachment to nitrogen N of –

CH2-P(OH)2=O .

One can see the similarity to glyphosate: COOH-CH2-NH-CH2-P(OH)2=O but one cannot forgive the deliberate other deceptions.

In the damaged proteins like EPSPS, the extra methyl-phosphonyl (bold) must stick out from each new protein, thus interfering with the three-dimensional folding and thus the strength and function of the original protein.

Dr. Samsel explained he has obtained connective tissues from a slaughter house, from pigs fed GMO-R-R feed containing glyphosate residues (11). He has then subjected these tissues to such digestion as would occur in a human small intestine. He then analyzed for glyphosate, both before and after digestion. The glyphosate undetected, bound inside the tissue proteins he assures me returns again, intact after the process, active in the resulting mix. In simple terms, glyphosate hidden inside the meat connective tissues, returns after digestion to threaten the human who eats it. Undeterred by cooking, it will still be there. Bone-broth anyone?

This news, both published and unpublished, is dire. It is not hyperbole to say glyphosate substitution may well be considered to be the cause of most of the idiopathic (unsolved) chronic diseases now rising in human world populations as glyphosate may continue to increase in our diets. The extensive immune damage from a single glyphosate gut disruption, likely leaves life-long auto-immune predilection. So, try this: Please ask your friends who do you know has pain that “doctors” are not treating meaningfully? I’m betting you have heard but possibly discredited someone close to you, thinking they are crazy or self-indulgent. Really?

Why the alarm? What happens if one in a thousand proteins are mis-manufactured by a compound which does not break down as was supposed? Why care about deficient F, Y and W? Well, to put it bluntly, Y is precursor to dopamine (that when fails, produces Parkinson’s disease). W is precursor to both melatonin (without which no brain repair during sleep) and serotonin, also essential for brain well-being and for gut food passage. Without both serotonin and dopamine, any person would likely be sleepless, and possibly exhibit severe mental derangement. Lacking self-esteem, some might become suicidal, or enraged and potentially commit mass mayhem – possibly indiscriminate murders about which their family and friends would then remain in disbelief, clueless about real causes. Could this clearly be a case of de facto government sanctioned poisoning?

Imagine, as friends relate to me, trying to sort through your child’s chronic illness with the doctor, who may be more worried about his financial relationships with his drug company’s reactions if he/she dare ask about Federally sanctioned food toxins.

Please understand, this is now evolutionary history. Never have ecologists seen a man-made contaminant thwart the 4-billion-year-old coding system for all living cells and produce vast amounts of the wrong protein from the correct code. We have a “mutation” without any mutation in the DNA. Why would any responsible scientist, trained to know this ancient locked-in plan of nature, deliberately produce a massive experiment with the largest selling agricultural chemical in history? Is there a just punishment possible for receiving billions of dollars, trading not only the future of human health, but for destroying the fundamental interactions of our entire living planet?

The Glyphosate Grain Problem

So if there are no GMO varieties of wheat in the market, how is glyphosate getting into the wheat and other grains?

Dr. Don Huber, Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology at Purdue University, explains why:

“There are two reasons that a farmer wants to [use glyphosate on non-GMO crops]. It is for late season weed control in situations where he has patches of green weeds in the field that came up late. [This is commonly done with wheat and barley.] It is a little slower to harvest when weeds are present.

The other reason involves late season snow. In the northern region such as in the Dakotas, in certain parts of Montana, and in the Prairies of Canada, there is a very short growing season. If it snows on the crop at harvest then you may lose the crop, because you can’t get back into the field to do the harvest.

In these regions, 70% of the wheat and barley are desiccated with glyphosate before harvest. [This kills the plant so that it will wilt and dry]. Farmers don’t want to take a risk of losing their entire wheat and barley crop, so they will take a cut in yield and quality by using glyphosate a few weeks before harvest, and then harvest the crop early.

Farmers don’t realize how much they are contaminating that food or feed product when they do this. They will accept the cut [in quality and quantity of the crop], because that can buy them a week advantage in harvest. It’s really more done for ease and planning. However, it is just the dumbest thing you could ever do from a health and safety standpoint.

In fact, beer brewers are having a problem with glyphosate. A few years ago, when one of my colleagues wanted to get more Abraxis test strips for testing materials for glyphosate residue, he was told that they had a 3 month backlog. He asked, what was causing this? He was told that every load of malt barley coming out of North Dakota has to be tested, because the glyphosate levels were so high that it kills the yeast in the brew mix.” (Source.)

Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff published as study titled: Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases II: Celiac sprue and gluten intolerance in Interdiscip Toxicol. 2013; Vol. 6 (4): 159–184. They produced the following chart showing a correlation between glyphosate use on wheat and Celiac disease:

EU Bans “Organic” Hydroponic Imports

Cornucopia’s Take: Beginning in 2021, the European Union will no longer accept produce labeled “organic” that has been produced hydroponically, including so-called “container production.” European hydroponic producers who use approved organic inputs will still be able to export their produce to the U.S., although their produce will not be eligible for organic status in their own country. It remains to be seen whether this will increase hydroponic exports from the EU to the U.S. Cornucopia continues to insist that soil-less hydroponic production of vegetables and fruits should not be eligible for sale in the U.S. as organic.

Seneff: “Evaggelos Vallianatos reflects on the corruption at the EPA and the dire future for our planet.”

The US Environmental Protection Agency at a Crossroad

I worked at the EPA from 1979 to 2004, through five administrations (both Republican and Democratic), and watched firsthand how industry guided deregulation, expertly subverting EPA charged with protecting our health, our drinking water, and the air we breathe.

With the assistance of highly placed industry appointees in both the White House and Congress, chemical and agricultural giants essentially control the actions of EPA. The agency routinely shrinks from enforcing the law; does little to bring bad practices to an end; overlooks evidence of wrongdoing; ignores the rapid increase of cancer and other diseases corresponding to the rapid spread and increase of the use of toxic chemicals; and fails to keep polluting companies accountable.

Here’s how it works. Corporate lobbyists meet almost daily with EPA scientists and managers, muscling their corrupt science and pressuring them to say yes to industry proposals. This task is made easier when – as often happens – industry’s chief lobbyists are former EPA political appointees, and senior EPA officials are former industry heavyweights.

EPA scientists quickly learn that challenging the corporate agenda can bring career-ending payback: their decisions will be questioned; their promotions and careers will be put at risk. EPA scientists learn not to ask many questions when they evaluate industry data about new pesticides, for example.

I opposed the agenda of the “regulated” industry. I kept asking questions. I challenged senior EPA officials to justify the unethical practice of licensing neurotoxins for farming. These compounds are siblings of chemical warfare agents.

EPA’s industry bosses hand-pick the scientists to collect data or – inside the agency -- to adopt industry information and rubber stamp it as government policy. A product labeled “EPA Approved” loses its integrity.

Glyphosate Herbicide Causes Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria, Kidney Disease, and Infertility

Glyphosate may well be the most toxic chemical ever approved for commercial use, as it is now linked to kidney disease, antibiotic resistant bacteria, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, depression, ADHD, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, cachexia, infertility, and developmental malformations. It destroys the microbiome of humans and plants, which is the root cause of many modern diseases.

Suspicious Organic Grain Shipment Intercepted at U.S. Port

Common Weed killer Used in Modern Agriculture Could be Main Factor in Gluten Intolerance

In her most recent research published in a peer-reviewed journal along with Anthony Samsel, she looks at the role of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, which is the most popular herbicide used worldwide, and its toxic effect in destroying our digestive system. Here is another piece of the problem when looking at gluten sensitivities. In a recent interview she was asked about glyphosate’s role in Celiac disease and gluten sensitivities, and this was her reply:

Time to Ban Monsanto's Roundup Weedkiller—But Will the EPA Act?

According to Carey Gillam, reporting for U.S. Right to Know, and the plaintiffs’ attorneys, the following experts testified for the plaintiffs.

In February, the U.S. Congress weighed in on the glyphosate-cancer connection. The House Science Committee held a hearing, “In Defense of Scientific Integrity: Examining the IARC Monograph Programme and Glyphosate Review.” For the Republican leaders of the committee, Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Vice Chairman Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), the purpose of the hearing was to attempt to discredit WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer.

The strategy backfired, as the hearing only stirred public concern over Roundup’s carcinogenicity and Monsanto’s undue influence over EPA decision makers. Chairman Smith’s witnesses were not credible. In fact, they are among the chemical industry’s most notorious shills:

This lie would never have been uncovered if it weren’t for the lawsuits filed on behalf of Roundup-exposed cancer victims that, as the report states, have “revealed hundreds of pages of internal Monsanto e-mails, memorandums, and other records that clearly show Monsanto engaged in a decades-long concerted effort to fend off any evidence suggesting potential adverse human health effects from glyphosate and more recently to undermine IARC’s findings.”

The results of ongoing investigations and court testimony will likely undermine the legitimacy of the EPA’s decision, should it approve glyphosate. As consumers whose food supply is contaminated with glyphosate, we need to keep up the pressure on the EPA, regardless of Pruitt’s ties to Monsanto.

Companies That Modify Livestock Genes Want to be Regulated by the Friendlier USDA Instead of the FDA

The FDA decided otherwise, however. Two days before President Barack Obama left office, the agency said it planned to treat edits made to animals as new drugs. To the agency, genetic tinkering is “intended to affect the structure [or] function” of an animal. Therefore, gene editing, just like any veterinary drug, falls under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938, the law from which that phrase comes.

Tell Your Senators: Don’t Put a Dow-Dupont Lawyer in Charge of Cleaning up Dow’s Toxic Waste Dumps!

Peter C. Wright is a lawyer who has spent his entire career helping Monsanto and Dow avoid cleaning up their toxic pollution.

Now, Trump wants to put Wright in charge of—guess what?—forcing companies like Monsanto and Dow to clean up their toxic pollution.

Wright’s current employer, DowDuPont, is listed as the responsible party for more than 100 toxic Superfund sites that the EPA is trying to get cleaned up across the nation.

Wright has a long history of being on the wrong side of the chemical safety debate. One of his favorite defense strategies is to argue that dioxin, a known carcinogen and Monsanto and Dow pollutant, isn’t really as bad as the EPA makes it out to be—even though scientists place dioxin “among the most toxic chemicals known to man.”

This is Wright’s dirty work. He has proudly made a career helping Monsanto and DowDuPont avoid cleaning up their toxic waste—now Trump wants him to be in charge of that project for the entire country, including all of the sites that Dow and Monsanto poisoned with dioxin contamination in the process of making and storing Agent Orange.

Half of All Children Will Be Autistic by 2025, Warns Senior Research Scientist at MIT

This month, the USDA released a study finding that although there were detectable levels of pesticide residue in more than half of food tested by the agency, 99% of samples taken were found to be within levels the government deems safe, and 40% were found to have no detectable trace of pesticides at all. The USDA added, however, that due to “cost concerns,” it did not test for residues of glyphosate. Let’s repeat that: they never tested for the active ingredient in the most widely used herbicide in the world. “Cost concerns”? How absurd—unless they mean it will cost them too much in terms of the special relationship between the USDA and Monsanto. You may recall the revolving door between Monsanto and the federal government, with agency officials becoming high-paying executives—and vice versa! Money, power, prestige: it’s all there. Monsanto and the USDA love to scratch each others’ backs. Clearly this omission was purposeful.

Food Evolution film neglects to mention important facts… like glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen

I was invited to participate in a panel discussion of the film at the University of San Francisco earlier this month. What follows is a copy of the remarks I made.

The reason scientists need to be abjectly honest when explaining genetic engineering to the public is because… only by considering all the pertinent, available information—the whole truth about crop genetic engineering as we know it—can society at large make good, informed decisions about how to use and control this powerful technology.

Instead, this film leaves out important information that is crucial to an informed public debate about GMOs.

We knew adding foreign genes to plants could cause mutations in the recipient plant, for example, and that sometimes the inserted DNA sequence had been changed from the DNA sequence we had intended to insert. We therefore suggested to FDA ways that we would identify and minimize such unintended effects. And frankly, I was surprised when, in May of 1992, before its scientists had thoroughly examined all the data we had sent them, FDA decided that, with only a couple of exceptions, regulation of GE food and feed crops would not be required by that agency; it put a voluntary consultation process in place instead. It remains a voluntary system to this day. [See my previous blog post for more information on the timing of FDA’s GMO policy in relation to its review of Calgene’s safety data.]

For example, it leaves out important information pertaining to the safety of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. It neglects to mention the fact that the arm of the World Health Organization that classifies compounds as carcinogenic—or not—the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), has classified glyphosate as an animal carcinogen and a probable human carcinogen. [Since the release of Food Evolution, Monsanto sued California for using IARC’s classification to require warnings of glyphosate exposure; Monsanto lost that law suit and, on April 19, 2018, Monsanto lost its appeal of that decision as well.]

I say that Séralini’s original study should never have been retracted. And Professor Fred Gould, who was the chairman of the committee that put together the most recent National Academy of Sciences report on GMOs, told me [during the “on the record” Scientific Uncertainty and Professional Ethics panel discussion of GMOs and scientific uncertainty that I mentioned above] that he agreed that the paper should never have been retracted.

Is Cornell University misleading us on GMO food safety? by Claire Robinson

Watch lecture ten of our independent lecture series to learn that Cornell is indeed misleading us on the safety of GMOs (among a host of other topics).

EFSA boss: EU food law overhaul ‘a big step towards transparency’

The European Commission made it absolutely clear that, under its proposal, EFSA will publish everything that is not protected. And I find this very useful. Of course, it’s also a challenge for us in terms of IT infrastructure. It won’t be like putting 10,000 pages of pdf files on the internet – we’re talking about structured data that should be searchable. This means industry will also have to submit data in a structured way, which will involve a lot of talks with them to make it happen.

Another aspect, which I find is missing in the current discussion, is that academic research will have access to this data. And maybe academic research will find patterns in the data that regulators didn’t see.

BASF to Crank Up R&D `Two Gears' With Bayer Seeds, Next CEO Says

BASF will soon enter the crop-seed business with its agreement to purchase agriculture assets from Bayer. That sale is part of Bayer’s effort to win antitrust approval for its $66 billion purchase of Monsanto Co.

Brudermueller said gene editing tools such as Crispr-Cas will help BASF develop seeds designed to work with crop chemicals, much as Monsanto’s Roundup Ready seeds are genetically engineered to survive applications of Roundup herbicide.

Germany + 13 Other Countries Say No to Glyphosate: What About the U.S.?

If Germany passes this regulation, it will join many other countries that are saying no to glyphosate.

According to Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman, a U.S. law firm representing hundreds of plaintiffs suing Monsanto for allegedly causing their cancer, the following countries have banned or placed restrictions on the use of glyphosate:

• Belgium: In 2017, the Flemish government banned individual use of glyphosate and voted against relicensing glyphosate in the EU. The country was one of six EU member states to sign a letter to the EU Commission calling for "an exit plan for glyphosate."
• Bermuda: The island outlawed the private and commercial sale of all glyphosate-based herbicides.
• Colombia: In 2015, the country forbid the use of glyphosate to eliminate illegal plantations of coca, often used to make cocaine, due to concern that the herbicide causes cancer. However in 2017, the country reinstituted its controversial fumigation program. But instead of using aerial fumigation, glyphosate is now sprayed manually, from the ground.
• Netherlands: Dutch officials have banned all non-commercial use of glyphosate.
• Sri Lanka: In 2014, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa mandated an all-out ban on glyphosate, following a study linking Roundup to Fatal Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), the second-leading cause of death among males in the country. Sri Lanka was the first country to issue a nationwide ban on glyphosate.
• El Salvador: Passed a law banning glyphosate, citing the same study linking fatal chronic kidney disease to Roundup.
• Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, have stopped glyphosate use.
• France: President Emmanuel Macron announced in Novemenber 2017, an outright ban on glyphosate, to take effect "within three years."

“For decades now, the public has been exposed, unknowingly and against their will, to glyphosate, despite mounting evidence that this key active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide is harmful to human health and the environment,” International Director of Organic Consumers Association Ronnie Cummins explained. “Now, is the time to increase pressure around the world and encourage more states, cities and countries to ban this toxic chemical.”

Zombie GMO Myths

Before I dive into them, I should state here, for the record, that I am neither “for” or “against” GMOs. To me, they are simply a new kind of technology, and technology can be used poorly or wisely.

My concern about GMOs is that they are being used very poorly right now, and without larger social and environmental consequences in mind. Plus, their use is largely driven by profit, which makes me nervous. And even the more enlightened proponents of GMOs still seem to overlook to the longer-term environmental, economic, and social impacts of this technology.

With that in mind, here are my responses to the zombie GMO questions I get asked all the time.

*Please don’t be a smartypants and say, “Hey, all crops are genetically modified”. Yes, yes, we have been selectively breeding plants for thousands of years. We all know that. But the term “GMOs” refers to the recent development of “gene splicing” and the development of transgenic crops, creating forms of life that nature, or selective breeding, could never have created.
