Multiple Mark's Pizzeria locations in Rochester and Syracuse closed over the last month, or opened under new ownership. Now locations in Seneca, Wayne, and Tompkins counties have transitioned, as well.

Mark's Pizzeria stores in those locations is known as "Pat's Pizzeria," effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Has anyone visited the pizzeria since the changeover in ownership?

Let us know in this thread!

If I was in business Id do the same thing. Why should Marks have to pay their employees more than Ciccinos? Just another case of NYS being unfriendly to business.

It's ironic that they advertise having "familiar faces still behind the counter," when they have just done all this reorganizing to avoid paying those familiar faces what they deserve.

I'd be in total support of the minimum wage increase if everyone else is getting a 70%+/- raise as well.

"Everyone else" hasn't been paid near slave-wages for the better part of twenty years.

But I digress.

But I digress.

So what about 15-20 years ago when the minimum was $4.25 and people were making 30-40G as a good comfortable wage. So working part-time, the minimum wage earner earned around 4G working part time. Today, that person would make around 15G. Now, people making 50-60G are considered to be making a good comfortable wage.

So, you're saying it makes logical sense that a minimum wage job should be closer in wage today to a job that requires experience, a college degree, or a person that has been in the workforce for 10-20-30-40 years? You're saying it makes logical sense to increase the minimum wage by 70-80% but the middle class wage by only maybe 5% or have it remain stagnant?

Maybe you're confused on what the real problem is. Our liberal government has let all the jobs that were made to support a family and household get shifted to other countries and there is limited job opportunities. You have people working at 2 McDonald's jobs to make ends meet.

Maybe you think the minimum wage job (gas pumper at a fake rez, cashier at a gas station, trash picker on 414) was meant to run a house hold and support a family. The minimum wage job should be reserved for kids getting some experience in the work world while getting paid a fair wage while living at home and having all of his expenses paid for.

Incorrect. I'm saying that ALL working-class pay has has dramatically slipped in terms of a living wage/cost of living ratio.

If the minimum wage were adjusted for 1978 inflation, etc., wages today would be somewhere between $19 - $23 an hour.

The fact that corporate greed/outsoucing has effected the middle class as well, is a particularly bad excuse for denying those in the lowest income brackets, a living wage. Especially considering how disproportionately effected they are by their reduced earnings.

And just to set you straight on a few things... NAFTA was conceived of by the Reagan administration. It was signed into law under H.W. Bush. Clinton was then blackmailed by Republicans in Congress to ratify it or else they wouldn't sign-off on Clinton's welfare reform legislation. The very same issue that Republicans had carped about for a decade. So you can stow your false political outrage. It was REPUBLICANS who were almost single-handedly responsible for the exodus of jobs and corporate theft of American jobs. Furthermore, it was Republicans who eliminated the fair-trade fair-labor clauses that were insisted upon by Clinton.

It would seem that ignorance and hypocrisy are common bedfellows. Any confusion on this subject, is yours alone.

Sadly after doing a study on this you are going to find that a majority of jobs locally including the civil service listings start at minimum wage.

Why not raise the minimum wage to $15 or more rather than the current tax bill which gives some wealthy people a tax cut in the 10's of thousands?

Better question is what about all the folks that earned their way to their current pay and new hires are coming in making the same as them.....Happening all over the place and with each wage increase the numbers of folks making the same thing only grows.

Maybe we could have a two tier minimum wage? So that those over 21 have a higher minimum wage that those under 21?

Not to mention that most minimum wage workers are adults.

If a sixteen year old can do same job, they should receive the same pay. Period.

Again, thank corporate greed. American CEOs now make (on average) MANY HUNDREDS of times proportionally greater salaries than during the 50s, 60s and 70s (America's most prosperous era). And it only continues to worsen. It's utterly inexcusable and amounts to no less than de-facto employment slavery. The cost to American prosperity is astronomical.

Seneca County's unemployment rate is now down to 4.4%, with the whole Finger Lakes area at similar low numbers. For reference, the target is 4.7%. Anything less than that means that it is difficult to fill jobs, and that employers have to pay more to find people who will do a good job.

I hope that Pat's pizzeria recognizes their valuable employees, and rewards their loyalty for staying on through a fraught transition, by raising their wages significantly. If not, those valuable friendly faces may be recruited away by someone who will.
