The 2018 Tompkins legislature will consist of seven women, compared to the previous five — exactly half of the legislature — and the most diverse in recent memory with two women also being part of the LGBTQ+ community.

“This group understands that investing in future generations of our county is amazingly critical,” she added. “...the focus on social justice, the focus on equity, impactfully investing and caring about everyone to make sure they have job training and housing they need… the fundamentals for human rights – that’s a priority for everyone. That’s beautiful.”

Louisa Riley – one of the godmothers of women’s rights in Tompkins County – and Juanita Breckenridge Bates would have been proud.
