I just read the article describing HWS using 22 Castle St as an entrepreneurial classroom, leasing the property for 3 years with the option to purchase it. If they do purchase the property it just makes our property taxes increase. How does Horn think that's a "huge win for Geneva"???

If a private institution of learning decides to utilize a certain property in a certain way, that is no concern of yours. No one forced you to purchase a home you could not afford the taxes on. Tax dollars are not your dollars. You are not entitled to them.

There's absolutely nothing the City of Geneva can do about it. Express your concerns over the NYS tax code with Kolb and Helming.

The nonprofit landscape has changed tremendously since the tax exemptions were enacted. With the bloated administrative salaries at many colleges and hospitals, among other nonprofits, it's probably time to reconsider whether the nonprofits really need to be exempted from paying property taxes.

Nevertheless, it's probably a huge net benefit for the city that the colleges are expanding and encouraging students to spend more time outsides the confines of the campus proper.

What the City needs is a way to obtain some revenue from non-residents using these so-called non-profits.

city council was to move forward with the 'benefits assessments district' to allow the tax exempt to pay into the city services

if the 'benefits assessments district' were in placed it would have provided the city well over 14 million dollars by now

it appears that the prior HWS prez invited some council members to a dinner to withdraw that idea

must be the city council members fail to realize that many of their home dinners are 'provided' by the taxpayers -

guess who pays the council members ?

would it be the taxpayers?
