Breaking News: Pre-Sliced, Unlabeled GMO “Arctic” Apples Launching in U.S. Stores this October.

These non-browning GMO apples were genetically engineered by Okanagan Specialty Fruits using RNAi (RNA interference) - a gene silencing technique. The GMO apples have not been independently safety tested. They are engineered to not brown for 3 weeks, which means that nutrient degradation will occur and you won't be able to tell. And we have to wonder what type of antimicrobials they are treated with so they don't grow nasty things on them during that 3 week period where they appear to be fresh.

Apples' natural browning is caused by an enzyme that produces melanin, polyphenol oxidase, which gives cells a brown tint when exposed to oxygen. Scientists believe the browning may play an important role in helping apples to fend off pests and disease. Conventional apples are already at the top of the charts for produce with the highest levels of toxic pesticide residues and residues from up to 40 different pesticides that may be found on any one apple. Many of these pesticides, such as organophosphates, are linked to adverse health impacts including hormone disruption, reproductive disorders and even ADHD. Arctic Apples have been engineered to lack the natural browning enzyme that may help fight diseases and pests, meaning farmers may have to use even more pesticides in growing the GMO apples. Nothing wholesome about that.

“[10oz grab-n-go bags]... provides consumers with the convenience factor they really desire. Moreover, studies show that children consume apples at dramatically higher rates if they are sliced,” says Neal Carter, President of Okanagan Specialty Fruits. Neal admits he's targeting children with these GMO apple slices. We think Neal should just feed them to his own kids and not experiment on other children. Boycott GMO Arctic Apples.

Monsanto banned from European parliament

MEPs had been incensed at a Monsanto decision to shun a hearing organised by the environment and agriculture committees, with academics, regulators and campaigners, on 11 October.

The meeting is expected to hear allegations that Monsanto unduly influenced regulatory studies into the safety of glyphosate, a key ingredient in its best-selling RoundUp weedkiller.

“Those who ignore the rules of democracy also lose their rights as a lobbyist in the European parliament,” said the Green party president Philippe Lamberts. “US corporations must also accept the democratic control function of the parliament. Monsanto cannot escape this.”

GMO maize NK603 is not substantially equivalent to its non-GMO counterpart - 2016

Although some polyamines may have beneficial effects in certain contexts, Dr Antoniou said that others, such as putrescine and cadaverine, can produce “various toxic effects. For example, they enhance the effects of histamine, thus heightening allergic reactions, and both have been implicated in the formation of carcinogenic substances called nitrosamines with nitrite in meat products.”

However, what is certain is that the basis for regulatory approvals of NK603 maize looks decidedly shaky. As Dr Antoniou concluded, “Our study clearly shows that the GM transformation process results in profound compositional differences in NK603, demonstrating that this GMO maize is not substantially equivalent to its non-GMO counterpart. Our results call for a more thorough evaluation of the safety of NK603 maize consumption on a long-term basis.”

Erin Brockovich: “Harmful Algae Blooms (HAB) are occurring from coast to coast. They are impacting Drinking Water supplies across the country. Toxic microcystin can cause adverse health effects in people including nausea, headaches, upper respiratory issues and skin irritation. It can cause health problems and be lethal in animals, too.
We MUST recognize the cause and address it head on... Illegal and "legal" waste discharges. Nutrients from agriculture and wastewater treatment plants feed uncontrolled growth of natural algae... to toxic levels. No more excuses... Save the Clean Water Act.”

Products of new GM techniques must be strictly regulated as GMOs, say scientists

The statement, published on the same day as the EU Commission holds a “High Level Conference” on the new GM techniques, also says that genome editing techniques have become so easy to carry out that they open up the possibility of abuse and inadvertent misuse, including for bioterror purposes.

Gene drives (designed to rapidly spread a trait through populations or entire species) carry a particular risk of causing ecological imbalance and disruption.

Herbicide Atrazine Found to Affect Health Across Multiple Generations

(Beyond Pesticides, September 27, 2017) Adverse health effects caused by exposure to the widely used herbicide atrazine pass down from parents to their children through multiple generations, according to new research published by scientists at Washington State University. This burgeoning area of study on ‘transgenerational’ impacts calls into question the current methodology for assessing toxicity and risk from chemical exposure. With the current U.S. regulatory system permitting food and communities to be awash in toxic pesticides, the results of the study have grave implications for future generations.

Mexican Supreme Court Refuses to Review Monsanto Appeal on GMO Maize Permits

The suspension of planting GMO maize has been in force throughout the country after a court decision three and a half years ago, after a group of organizations, academics and citizens presented a collective action against the planting of GMO maize in Mexico.

In the latest ruling, issued earlier today, Mexico’s Supreme Court refused to review an appeals court decision from 2013, which in effect will allow the appeals court to verify the suspension of permits for the planting of GE corn grain and uphold the enforcement of the ban throughout the country. The original decision included a declaration that the benefits of GMO corn remain unproven.

Dangerous for pets, can be transferred to humans for up to 4 weeks. Repeated chronic exposure may pose possible health risks to veterinarians, veterinary technologists, dog caretakers, and owners.

Human exposure to imidacloprid from dogs treated with advantage(r).

...The glove samples were collected by petting each dog for 5 minutes while wearing a different glove per dog. The blood samples (5 mL from each dog) were collected into EDTA tubes. The imidacloprid residue was determined in the blood extracts and glove samples using RP-HPLC. The highest levels of imidacloprid residues were detected at the 24-h interval in both glove (254.16 +/- 25.49 ppm) and blood (54.06 +/- 3.00 ppb) samples. The blood imidacloprid residue was reduced by one third at the 72-h interval (18.73 +/- 2.00 ppb) and was not detected after 1 week. Imidacloprid residue in the glove samples decreased approximately one third between each collection interval. The residue of imidacloprid in the glove extract by the fourth week was very low (0.08 +/- 0.02 ppm) and not detected by the fifth week. The present findings suggest that following topical application of Advantage(R), imidacloprid residue can be detected in the dog's blood for up to 72 h, and transferable residue on the dog's coat can be detected for up to 4 weeks. Repeated chronic exposure to imidacloprid may pose possible health risks to veterinarians, veterinary technologists, dog caretakers, and owners.

First study finds neonic pesticides in US drinking water

In the US, sales of seeds pre-treated with neonics tripled from 2004 to 2014. However concerns over their environmental impacts have also grown and they have been consistently associated with causing harm to bees. So great has the worry been, that there has been a moratorium on their use on flowering crops in the European Union since 2013. A study in 2015 from the US Geological Survey (USGS) found that neonics were widespread in water samples collected from 48 different rivers and streams in the US.

Dr. David Lewis: Science Often Plays Second Fiddle to Politics - 2015

In 1996, I published a two-page commentary in the journal Nature entitled “EPA Science: Casualty of Election Politics.” Three years later, Nature published a research article in which my coauthors and I raised concerns about EPA’s 503 sludge rule, which regulates biosolids.

This Clinton-era rule allows all toxic chemical wastes in biosolids, except for nine heavy metals, to be applied to farms, forests, golf courses, school playgrounds and other public and private lands at millions of times higher levels than permitted in air and water.

To discredit me, the head of EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management in Washington, D.C., and one of his subordinates, had breakfast and lunch with executives of Synagro Corporation. Synagro, the leading company in the biosolids business, provided EPA allegations of research misconduct against me, which Synagro and EPA subordinate distributed publicly. EPA stopped supporting my research and later transferred me to UGA to await termination.

In 2008, a survey of 1,600 ORD scientists by the Union of Concerned Scientists found that more than half had experienced political interference within the previous five years. Twenty-two percent witnessed selective or incomplete use of data to justify an EPA regulation, and 17 percent were directed to inappropriately exclude or alter technical information. Many respondents said they feared retaliation if they didn’t comply.

Deadly Immunity – Government Cover-up of a Mercury/Autism Scandal

(World Mercury Project note: With the ongoing mainstream media blackout on questions regarding vaccine safety, we want to remind our followers of the publication–and subsequent retraction–of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s 2005 article “Deadly Immunity” in Salon. The history of repression of crucial vaccine safety data runs deep. The article laid out the scientific link between thimerosal and childhood neurological disorders and published explosive excerpts from the transcripts from the CDC’s secretive June 2000 Simpsonwood conference which brought together government public health officials, vaccine manufacturers and professional medical associations. The article was groundbreaking at the time and received lots of media attention for uncovering the cozy relationship between government and industry at the expense of children’s health. Even though a dozen years have passed, the article’s facts have stood the test of time. An important read for people new to the movement and long-time advocates alike.)

In June 2000, a group of top government scientists and health officials gathered for a meeting at the isolated Simpsonwood conference center in Norcross, Georgia. Convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the meeting was held at this Methodist retreat center, nestled in wooded farmland next to the Chattahoochee River, to ensure complete secrecy. The agency had issued no public announcement of the session — only private invitations to fifty-two attendees. There were high-level officials from the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, the top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization in Geneva and representatives of every major vaccine manufacturer, including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth and Aventis Pasteur. All of the scientific data under discussion, CDC officials repeatedly reminded the participants, was strictly “embargoed.” There would be no making photocopies of documents, no taking papers with them when they left.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK - 'Farmers for America' Trailer

There’s no escaping it. Food—real food, the kind that actually provides nutrients—comes from farms.

But with the average age of today’s farmer being 60, and young people unable to afford farmland and equipment, who will grow our food?

“Farmers for America,” is a documentary that explores the changing American farm scene and changing consumer trends. The film takes a close look at today’s farmers, and those standing in line to replace them. Can their spirit and energy bring urban and rural America together over our common need for food?

France to ban glyphosate weedkiller by 2022, develop alternative

France has decided to set 2022 as a deadline to phase out the use of glyphosate, the controversial active ingredient in one of the world’s most widely used weedkillers, the government said today…

The European Commission has proposed extending the license for the use of the chemical for 10 years, which France has said it will vote against and try to block. “The prime minister… has decided that this product will be banned in France by the end of the government’s term, as well as others that are similar and which are a public health threat,” government spokesman Christophe Castaner told RMC radio.

Jonathan Latham:

“The next time that someone tells you that GMO pesticidal crops use a natural toxin, tell them to read our new peer-reviewed publication.”

“This is the quandary of biotech. Every product must be novel enough to patent and similar enough to sneak through any safety assessment. Somehow, they always hit the sweet spot!”

When they were first introduced it was widely expected that the introduction of GM Bt crops would lead to reductions in insecticide use. This expectation is still asserted by applicants today as balancing the risks of GM Bt crop introductions. Evidence so far suggests, however, that reductions in the application of conventional insecticides have been uneven and transient (eg Benbrook, 2012 Benbrook, C. M. (2012). Impacts of genetically engineered crops on pesticide use in the U.S. – the first sixteen years. What our review draws attention to, however, is that measures of insecticide use, and also the claims for reduced insecticide use made by applicants, have disregarded the Cry insecticides in GM crops themselves. These toxins deserve much greater attention and may be of equal or greater concern than conventional pesticides.

"Reads like a mystery novel as Gillam skillfully uncovers Monsanto's secretive strategies."—Erin Brockovich

"A damning picture of the peddling of glyphosate...Gillam expertly covers a contentious front." —Publishers Weekly
"A must-read." —Booklist

"Hard-hitting, eye-opening narrative." —Kirkus

It’s the pesticide on our dinner plates, a chemical so pervasive it’s in the air we breathe, our water, our soil, and even found increasingly in our own bodies. Known as Monsanto’s Roundup by consumers, and as glyphosate by scientists, the world’s most popular weed killer is used everywhere from backyard gardens to golf courses to millions of acres of farmland. For decades it’s been touted as safe enough to drink, but a growing body of evidence indicates just the opposite, with research tying the chemical to cancers and a host of other health threats.

In Whitewash, veteran journalist Carey Gillam uncovers one of the most controversial stories in the history of food and agriculture, exposing new evidence of corporate influence. Gillam introduces readers to farm families devastated by cancers which they believe are caused by the chemical, and to scientists whose reputations have been smeared for publishing research that contradicted business interests. Readers learn about the arm-twisting of regulators who signed off on the chemical, echoing company assurances of safety even as they permitted higher residues of the pesticide in food and skipped compliance tests. And, in startling detail, Gillam reveals secret industry communications that pull back the curtain on corporate efforts to manipulate public perception.

Whitewash is more than an exposé about the hazards of one chemical or even the influence of one company. It’s a story of power, politics, and the deadly consequences of putting corporate interests ahead of public safety.

Monsanto Long Term Studies Buried by EPA Revealed! Dr. Stephanie Seneff Explains - 2015

Dr. Stephanie Seneff and host Elaine McFadden, MPH, RD go through disturbing research information uncovered in the 10,000 pages of Monsanto long term studies done decades ago before it was buried by the EPA. A colleague of Dr. Seneff (Anthony Samsel) repeatedly petitioned the EPA for the information. Monsanto did long term studies back then, and it is frightening that the cumulative and destructive results of those studies did not stop the government from approving its use, but instead choose to hide the information from the public. Monsanto learned that if they did studies longer than 3 months the truth starts to reveal itself. If confirmed as director of the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Dourson will be in a position to set safety levels for many of the same chemicals his company was paid to defend, including nine pesticides scheduled for scrutiny and 20 industrial compounds that may be evaluated under the recently updated chemical safety law.

Dourson would also be in a position to make decisions affecting chlorpyrifos, another pesticide he’s been paid to research, which can cause memory, intelligence, attention, and motor problems in children. Based on numerous studies that found that very low doses of the pesticide can harm children’s brains, the EPA proposed banning chlorpyrifos in 2016. In research paid for by Dow, the manufacturer of chlorpyrifos, Dourson came up with a safety threshold that was some 5,000 times less protective than what the EPA recommended for children between the ages of one and two.

Six companies are about to merge into the biggest farm-business oligopoly in history

From that perspective, the mergers are as much about maintaining profit and staying financially healthy as they are about the development of new technologies. It’s not just a case of American farmers needing more technologically advanced tools; it’s also a white flag from big agribusiness companies struggling with the fact that, despite all their efficiencies and inventions, the US market is demanding supplies that let farmers grow more profitable and less complicated organic and all-natural foods.

Whether that trend continues remains to be seen. For now, the mergers are a clear sign that companies that invest in high-tech seeds and chemicals are going through a rough patch, and they think consolidation is their way out of it.

How Monsanto Manufactured Outrage At Chemical Cancer Classification It Expected by Carey Gillam

Internal company records show not just the level of fear Monsanto had over the impending review, but notably that company officials fully expected IARC scientists would find at least some cancer connections to glyphosate. Company scientists discussed the “vulnerability” that surrounded their efforts to defend glyphosate amid multiple unfavorable research findings in studies of people and animals exposed to the weed killer. In addition to epidemiology studies, “we also have potential vulnerabilities in the other areas that IARC will consider, namely, exposure, genetox, and mode of action…” a Monsanto scientist wrote in October 2014. That same email discussed a need to find allies and arrange funding for a “fight” – all months before the IARC meeting in March 2015.

Tell Congress: Subsidize Healthy Foods, Not Junk Foods!

October 16 is World Food Day. It’s also the day that Monsanto and its agrochemical cronies will be in Iowa, celebrating the bounties of industrial agriculture (in other words, their massive profits) at corporation-run “World Food Prize” events.

We think there are better ways to celebrate World Food Day. One of them is this: demand that Congress stop propping up Monsanto’s degenerative agriculture, and start supporting an organic regenerative food and farming system that produces healthy food, and heals the planet.

Whitewash: The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer, and the Corruption of Science by Carey Gillam

Investigative journalist, Carey Gillam, left no stone unturned during the two decades of meticulous research which lead to the publishing of her important new book, Whitewash. The company that claimed DDT and PCBs were safe is exposed, once again. Read thoroughly and eat carefully!

“They (Monsanto) bully reporters who don’t follow the narrative. I was told more than once or twice that there were no facts wrong in my story. They said that the problem with my stories was something called false balance. I should not be presenting two sides to a story. I should only be presenting their side.” Carey Gillam

Partial review… “Who should read Whitewash? Anyone with questions and concerns about chemicals. Anyone who eats food, drinks water, visits a city park, gardens in their own backyard, plays golf, or lives near a conventional farm where the owner sprays. And certainly anyone who cares about their health, the health of their family and friends, and the wellbeing of the environment. For glyphosate, the book’s subject, can be found just about everywhere, largely due to its widespread application as both an agricultural herbicide, and one widely used for landscaping.”

Carey Gillam’s presentation to European Parliament hearing on the Monsanto Papers & glyphosate

A giant battle is brewing in Europe over the future of glyphosate, the world’s most widely used pesticide, and we’re proud of our colleague Carey Gillam and her efforts there to stand up for truth and transparency.

If you haven’t seen it, Carey’s presentation last week to a joint committee of European Parliament is a powerful explainer of the tricks and methods Monsanto uses to manipulate science and deceive regulators, the public and the media.

Slides, video and text of Carey’s presentation are posted here - please share!

As Carey said, "We have now the thousands of pages of internal Monsanto emails, memos and other documents that make it clear beyond any doubt the efforts by this company to manipulate policy makers and members of the public."

Seneff: “News brief on my recent paper with Dr. Greg Nigh on glyphosate and anencephaly.”

From Bad To Worse: Glyphosate, Recently Linked to Cancer, Now Possibly Linked to Anencephaly

PORTLAND, OR / ACCESSWIRE / October 16, 2017 / Glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, was identified last year by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (“IARC”) as a “probable carcinogen.” More recently the State of California followed suit, requiring products containing glyphosate to be labeled as probably carcinogenic.

Today, Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a Senior Research Scientist at MIT, and Dr. Gregory Nigh, a naturopathic physician in Portland, Oregon, have published their review of the evidence that the heavy hand of glyphosate may even be reaching into the womb. They demonstrate that anencephaly, a tragic birth defect in which the brain of the fetus fails to develop, can be linked to glyphosate’s possible interference with fetal development in multiple ways.

“When we started this research on anencephaly, we were really just curious to see if there could be a link to glyphosate that might be apparent. The further we got into our review of the literature, we were shocked to discover that there isn’t just one link, but many, and they would all likely be happening at the same time in an exposed mother,” says Dr. Seneff, lead author of the review.

Dr. Nigh added, “We are not suggesting that glyphosate has been shown to cause anencephaly. We are saying that, given the surprising weight of the evidence that we found, the Precautionary Principle is in order until a truly independent review establishes its safety.”

The Precautionary Principle states that “if an action or policy has a suspected risk of causing harm to the public, or to the environment, in the absence of scientific consensus (that the action or policy is not harmful), the burden of proof that it is not harmful falls on those taking that action.” (Wikipedia).

While uncovering the various links between glyphosate exposure and anencephaly encompassed new research territory, Dr. Seneff said their findings were “deja vu all over again.” “I have been researching and publishing on the possible health impact of glyphosate exposure for nearly five years. Until more rigorous studies are conducted, all we can say is that the plausible biological mechanisms are there, and the strong correlation is there between exposure and associated conditions.”

When asked if she thought this most recent finding would compel regulatory agencies to investigate these links more carefully, she remarked, “Given the potential scope of this issue, that is desperately needed. But I’m not holding my breath.”

Their findings are sure to be met with resistance and outright dismissal. Even with the developmental pathways impacted clearly identified, and with strong correlations established between exposure and anencephalic births, detractors can rightly point out that correlation is not causation. As Dr. Seneff put it, “While those in government and industry carry on that debate, the concerned public should have this information so people can make their own decisions and act accordingly.”

Did Monsanto Ignore Evidence Linking Its Weed Killer to Cancer? - This could be the company’s “Big Tobacco” moment.

Monsanto has also tried to undermine the credibility of scientists on the IARC committee. “The basic strategy is: Attack people who’ve done the research you don’t like—mercilessly,” said epidemiologist Devra Davis, a former appointee to the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board and president of the nonprofit Environmental Health Trust. “They go after the researcher, they go after their funding…. Even the scientists who reported the formation of the ozone hole were vilified before they got their Nobel Prize” in chemistry.

Glyphosate Weedkiller Found in All 5 Popular Orange Juice Brands

Tropicana, Minute Maid, Stater Brothers, Signature Farms and Kirkland.

In 2015 the USDA reported orange juice was the most consumed fruit juice in the United States and oranges were second most consumed fruit overall, just slightly behind apples. The average person in America consumes 2.7 gallons of orange juice and 3 pounds of oranges each year. “100% Pure Orange Juice” is a common claim used by many juice brands that allow consumers to feel safe when serving it to their families on a daily basis. However, recent testing revealed that every one of the five top orange juice brands Moms Across America sent to an accredited lab tested positive for glyphosate weed killer. Glyphosate is the declared active chemical ingredient in Roundup, manufactured by Monsanto, and 750 other brands of glyphosate-based herbicides. Roundup is the most widely used herbicide in the world, often sprayed as a weedkiller between citrus trees, found in irrigation water and rain.

Ben & Jerry’s to launch glyphosate-free ice-cream after tests find traces of weedkiller

Ben & Jerry’s has moved to cut all glyphosate-tainted ingredients from its production chain and introduce an “organic dairy” line next year, after a new survey found widespread traces of the controversial substance in its European ice-creams.

The Indian farmers falling prey to pesticide

Farmers in Yavatmal, who mainly grow cotton, soybean and lentils, told the BBC that they use a highly potent mix of pesticides, both in powder and liquid form.

They also cultivate a genetically modified variety of cotton, which is supposed to be resistant to bollworms, a pest that attacks cotton crops.

But many farmers have said that bollworms still attacked their crops this year, which led them to increase their use of pesticides.

Scientists Urge Retraction of Journal Article on Glyphosate’s Safety, Surreptitiously Written by Monsanto

(Beyond Pesticides, October 17, 2017) In a letter to the scientific journal Critical Reviews in Toxicology, scientists called for the retraction of a 2016 paper that refuted glyphosate’s cancer risks after it was learned that the paper was secretly edited and funded by Monsanto, manufacturer of glyphosate.

The paper in question, “An Independent Review of the Carcinogenic Potential of Glyphosate,” is a review of the 2015 decision by an expert Working Group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to designate glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s flagship product, Roundup, as “probably carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2A). However, a new report this summer discovered conflict of interests not revealed at publication. Contrary to the journal’s conflict-of-interest disclosure statement, Monsanto directly paid at least two of the scientists who authored the paper, and a Monsanto employee substantially edited and reviewed the article prior to publication, in clear contradiction to the disclosure statement.

Seneff: “Wow! This article is fascinating and frightening in its implications!”

Have Monsanto and the Biotech Industry Turned Natural Bt Pesticides into GMO “Super toxins”? By Jonathan Latham

..."Not a single one of the 23 Bt commercial lines that we analysed was identical to natural or historically used versions of Bt toxins. All had at least two of the above categories of alterations, but most had many more. To call GMO Bt proteins natural, as biotech companies standardly do, is therefore misleading and scientifically wrong."

Our analysis is of importance for many reasons. First, are the real world ecological implications. According to our estimations, a series of independent alterations are creating enhancements in Bt protein toxicity. If each individual enhancement gives rise to a many-fold increase in toxicity, which, according to industry data it often does, then the cumulative effect is likely to be very large.

(This is particularly so when the vast quantities of Bt toxins present in each GMO crop field are considered. Not only are Bt proteins present in every cell of each GMO plant, but stacked GMO crop varieties increasingly have many different Bt transgenes. It is easy to imagine that GMO Bt crops may be having large effects on agricultural ecosystems.)

Second, there is a lesson here surely for new generations of biotechnologies. What our paper shows is that government regulators across the globe have opted to assume that Bt toxins, no matter how much they have been altered, whether accidentally or on purpose, have a toxicological profile that is unchanged.

Such an interpretation is highly convenient for applicants wanting to roll out potent novel toxins, but it is useless for protecting public health and the environment. Such disregard of the scientific evidence, laid out in full by us for the first ever time, is part of an unfortunate wider pattern–which we have been documenting–of adoption by GMO regulators of industry-friendly theoretical frameworks and interpretations.

It is the question for our times. How to integrate science into decision-making but ensure it is applied rigorously and impartially and therefore in the public interest?

Latham: “The next time that someone tells you that GMO pesticidal crops use a natural toxin, tell them to read our new peer-reviewed publication.”

The Misleading and Deceitful Ways of Dr. Kevin Folta

However, documents show that Monsanto provided Dr. Folta with, in their words, “an unrestricted grant in the amount of $25,000 which may be used at your discretion in support of your research and outreach projects.”

Emails indicate that Monsanto donated the money in response to a 9-page proposal from Dr. Folta, in which he asked Monsanto for $25,000 to fund his “three tiered solution” to the “biotech communications problem.” Proposed activities included traveling each month to a major domestic university to promote GMOs. The money was donated to a food bank after the documents became public.

Seed Industry Structure – Dr. Phil Howard

Since the 2008 economic downturn, Dr. Howard notes that “there have been more than 70 seed company acquisitions by the top eight firms, as well as a number of biotech company acquisitions and joint ventures.” Monsanto, DuPont and Syngenta now control over half the global market – a dramatic shift since 1996 when the top three corporations in the global seed industry controlled 22% of the industry.

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream in Four EU Countries Tests Positive for Monsanto Roundup Ingredient - Organic Consumers Association

If at first you don’t succeed, ask, ask again.

Ever since we announced in July that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream contains glyphosate, hundreds of thousands of consumers—through petitions, protests, phone calls, social media messages—have joined in asking Unilever-owned Ben & Jerry’s to live up to its claims of “social responsibility” and “natural, healthy products” by going 100% organic.

You helped us get Ben & Jerry’s attention in the U.S.

Ben & Jerry's feigned "concern" about the problem, but didn't respond with a concrete plan to resolve it.

On Tuesday (October 10), we took the Ben & Jerry’s campaign to Unilever's doorstep, by announcing, with help from the EU Parliament, Beyond GM, HRI Labs, and others, that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in four European countries (The Netherlands, Germany, France and the UK) also contained glyphosate.

When word leaked in advance about the press conference, Unilever officials scrambled to preempt our news with news of their own—a plan to source ingredients not sprayed with glyphosate, and plans to go 6% organic.

This latest announcement from Ben & Jerry’s doesn’t go far enough, so the campaign will continue.

But make no mistake—this is big news. It proves that consumers have the power to help rid our food system of poisons like glyphosate by pressuring corporations like Unilever—the second largest in the world—to live up to their claims about caring about your health and the environment.

This campaign isn’t over, not by a long shot. The “glyphosate-free” ice cream Ben & Jerry’s promises is a step in the right direction. But as long as Ben & Jerry’s sources 94 percent of its dairy products from industrial “dirty dairy” factory farms, the company is supporting Monsanto (whose GMO crops are used to feed dairy cows on conventional farms). And it will continue to be a major polluter of waterways, and degrader of healthy soils.

For now, all of you who helped pressure Unilever should take a moment to congratulate yourselves on pushing the Ben & Jerry’s brand one step further down the road to organic and regenerative.

Read our press release for the EU Parliament press conference…

Séralini said: “Research, both from France and the UK indicates that the levels of glyphosate present in most samples of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream likely pose a health risk. The regulatory levels of glyphosate set in the EU and US are based on outmoded toxicology models that fail to account for the properties of hormone disrupters like glyphosate-based herbicides, which can damage health at even very low levels.”

Thomas said: “These test results confirm the grim reality that other UK- and EU-wide testing has shown: almost no food is free from pesticide contamination. Ben & Jerry’s says it’s on a mission to make the world a better place. Inasmuch as ice cream can be used to do that, moving to a fully organic system, from farm to spoon, is the only way to ensure a product free from traces of endocrine-disrupting and carcinogenic glyphosate.”

How are GMOs and Roundup linked to cancer?

That was the subject of my talk this past weekend in Orlando at the exciting The Truth About Cancer conference. Below are the 10 main points from my presentation.

(Note: I missed the rebroadcast of this and will repost any future rebroadcast dates. But, fyi...)

GMOs and Cancer

1. The very process of creating a GMO creates side effects that can promote cancer. Monsanto’s Roundup Ready corn, for example, has higher levels of putrescine and cadaverine. These are not only linked to cancer and allergies, they produce the foul smell of rotting dead bodies.

2. Bt-toxin, which is manufactured by the altered DNA in every cell of genetically modified varieties of corn, cotton, and South American soy, pokes holes in cell walls. It may create “leaky gut,” which is linked to cancer and numerous other diseases.

3. Most GMOs are “Roundup Ready”—designed to be sprayed with Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. These include Soy, Corn, Cotton, Canola, Sugar Beets (for sugar), and Alfalfa. Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is classified as a class 2A carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (part of the World Health Organization). They said it probably causes cancer in humans, does cause cancer in animals, does cause mutations in DNA that can lead to cancer, and where it is heavily sprayed, cancer rates are higher.

4. Roundup is also sprayed on numerous non-GMO crops just before harvest as a desiccant, to dry down the crop as it is killed by the herbicide. Some of these other crops include: Wheat, Oats, Flax, Peas, Lentils, Dry Beans, Sugar Cane, Rye, Triticale, Buckwheat, Millet, Potatoes and Sunflowers. Canola, Corn and Soybeans labeled non-GMO may also be sprayed with Roundup.

5. To avoid Roundup, eating non-GMO is not sufficient. It is better to choose organic, which does not allow the use of GMOs, Roundup, or other synthetic poisons. (Products labeled both Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified are even better, because the latter requires tests for possible inadvertent GMO contamination.) Since Roundup is sprayed on most US cotton, residues are found in cotton products including tampons. BUY ORGANIC!

6. Several cancer rates in the US are rising in parallel with increased use of glyphosate on GMO soy and corn fields. These include leukemia and cancers of the liver, kidney, bladder, thyroid, and breast.

7. In Argentina, the rate of cancer in communities living near Roundup Ready soybean fields has also skyrocketed, as have birth defects, thyroid conditions, lupus, and respiratory problems.

8. The following are just some of the health effects of glyphosate, all of which are known to increase cancer risk. Glyphosate:

a. Damages the DNA
b. Is an antibiotic
c. Promotes leaky gut
d. Chelates minerals, making them unavailable
e. Is toxic to the mitochondria
f. Interferes with key metabolic pathways
g. Causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
h. Degrades into Sarcosine and formaldehyde
9. The full Roundup formulation is up to 125 times more toxic than glyphosate alone. It also has a greater endocrine disruptive effect.

10. Thousands of people who were exposed to Roundup and are now suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma are suing Monsanto. The lawsuit forced Monsanto to make public secret documents, emails, and texts. These are smoking guns, providing clear evidence that Monsanto colludes with government regulators, bullies scientists, ghostwrites articles, pays off journal editors and scientists, and publicly denies evidence of harm that it privately admits to.

(Watch the speech for some pretty shocking revelations.)

I ended my talk by introducing a peer-reviewed article that was recently accepted for publication. It features survey results in which 3,256 people describe significant improvements in 28 conditions after switching to non-GMO (and often organic) food. Of the 155 people who reported improvement in cancer after making the change, 23% said there was “Significant improvement,” 17% said the condition was “Nearly gone,” and 42% had a “Complete Recovery.” We will send you information about how to access that article as soon as it is public.

My new film Secret Ingredients, created with Amy Hart, has an excellent section on cancer. Information on the film and the new peer reviewed article are coming soon.

Safe Eating.

Moms Across America added a new video: Birth Defects and Glyphosate Connection

Dr. Stephanie Seneff, MIT scientist explains how glyphosate herbicides, (Roundup) the most widely used in the world, is likely contributing to anencephaly, birth defects, and other developmental issues. This is a crucial video and paper to share with your doctors and friends. Interviewed by Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America.

Seneff: “Glyphosate contamination in "100% natural" shredded wheat justifies a lawsuit against Monsanto.”

Glysophate in Breakfast Cereal

On June 22, consumers filed Post Shredded Wheat lawsuits in California and in New York, and a consumer advocacy group called the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) filed a similar lawsuit in the District of Columbia. Each of these plaintiffs claims that independent testing revealed that Post Shredded Wheat contains glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup and other weed killers. According to these complaints, not only does this mean that the reportedly “100% natural” cereal is not entirely natural, but it may also put them and other consumers at risk for serious illnesses.

In a press release announcing their lawsuit, the international director of the OCA, Ronnie Cummins, states, “On the back of its cereal box, Post says Shredded Wheat is made of ‘100% Whole Grain Wheat’ and that the product is ‘made with nothing but goodness.’ But tests prove Shredded Wheat contains glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup. Glyphosate is not only very unnatural, it is a known toxin, linked to a long list of potential and serious health problems.”

Arizona Science Institute Launches First Ever Glyphosate Testing Biobank

MetricBio have launched the first ever Glyphosate Biobank, to help shed further light on the levels of glyphosate in the U.S population and to help researchers to investigate human health issues surrounding the World’s most used herbicide, The Detox Project reported on Tuesday.

The new study being performed by MetricBio is again involving the general public but this time we are not only giving people the opportunity to find out the level of glyphosate in their urine, we are also enabling them to be part of a ground-breaking Glyphosate Biobank, which will aim to help this and future generations to find out details about the health effects of glyphosate.

New Groundbreaking Research Shows Glyphosate Persists in Soil

The research study by the Dutch University of Wageningen and Rikilt laboratories, jointly with the JRC, reveals that among 317 EU soil samples of arable land, 42% contained AMPA, the most toxic metabolite of glyphosate, while glyphosate was found in 21% of the soils; 18% of the samples had both. The study was conducted in six crop systems along 11 EU member states comprising soils under different geographical and climatic conditions.

t is the view of the undersigned scientists that the balance of evidence strongly suggests that these chemicals are harming beneficial insects and contributing to the current massive loss of global biodiversity. As such, there is an immediate need for national and international agreements to greatly restrict their use, and to prevent registration of similarly harmful agrochemicals in the future.

Failure to respond urgently to this issue risks not only the continued decline in abundance and diversity of many beneficial insects but also the loss of the services they provide and a significant fraction of the biodiversity heritage of future generations.

Non-GMO Month: Understanding Natural, Non-GMO & Certified Organic

Another area where people seem to get confused is differentiating between the terms “Certified Organic” and “Non-GMO”. It’s important to note that all organic products are Non-GMO, however, the opposite is not true: Non-GMO products are not organic. That’s not to say that Non-GMO products are bad, it’s a matter of you choosing what you’d rather eat and feed your family because a product that’s not Certified Organic but is Non-GMO is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. If you want food free from toxic chemicals and GMO’s, organic is your choice.

IRT: Monsanto Is Poisoning the Whole Population

According to a just released study published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers at the University of California, San Diego, confirmed that the amount of glyphosate in our bodies is 13 X more than it was before GMOs were introduced in the mid-90s. That is no surprise because most GMOs are engineered to be sprayed with Roundup. (Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup.) Use of glyphosate has risen 15 X since the introduction of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready crops. Even tiny amounts are linked to serious disease and chronic health conditions in other research.

Read more about the study HERE.

Exposure to Glyphosate, Chemical Found in Weed Killers, Increased Over 23 Years

“What we saw was that prior to the introduction of genetically modified foods, very few people had detectable levels of glyphosate,” said Mills. “As of 2016, 70 percent of the study cohort had detectable levels.”

IRT: Monsanto Caught Red-Handed

This is one of the best summary articles of how Monsanto was caught red-handed. Published Oct 24th in Der Spiegel, the widely read German news publication, the story adds explosive details of Monsanto’s deceit and deception just as the European Commission must decide about re-licensing of glyphosate. Permission to sell the chemical in the European Union expires on December 15th.

Monsanto’s lies began to unravel with the court-ordered release of internal emails and documents as part of an on-going class-action suit in California. The plaintiffs in that suit claim Monsanto's Roundup has caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of lymph node cancer, in them or members of their family.

"The Monsanto Papers tell an alarming story of ghostwriting, scientific manipulation and the withholding of information," says Michael Baum, a partner in the law firm of Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman, which is bringing one of the US class actions. According to Baum, Monsanto used the same strategies as the tobacco industry: "creating doubt, attacking people, doing ghostwriting."

Seneff: “It would be so sweet if glyphosate falls and then glufosinate falls right behind it. Both of them probably derive much of their toxicity from the fact that they are amino acids. Glyphosate is a SYNTHETIC amino acid analogue of glycine, and glufosinate is a NATURAL amino acid analogue of glutamate. Amino acid analogues can get copied into proteins by mistake in place of the coding amino acid that they resemble, and I have come to believe that this is the source of the insidious cumulative toxicity of these molecules.”

France Withdraws License for Bayer’s Glufosinate Herbicide after Health Review

French health and environment regulator ANSES said on Thursday it had withdrawn the license for Bayer’s Basta F1 weedkiller made with glufosinate-ammonium, citing uncertainty over its effect on health following a review.

The product, which is used to spray vineyards, fruit orchards and vegetables, was the only weedkiller containing glufosinate authorized in France, ANSES said in a statement, reported by Reuters.

Glufosinate is an alternative to glyphosate, the world’s most popular weedkiller substance which is currently the subject of fierce debate in the European Union over whether its license should be extended.

On Wednesday an initial round of votes on the proposed 10 year re-license for glyphosate by European Union (EU) member states failed to reach a majority and has thus forced the European Commission (EC) to consider a phase out or shorter license for the world”s most used herbicide. France was one of the leading countries to vote against the re-license.

On Tuesday, MEPs at the European Parliament voted to ban the use of glyphosate in Europe, 244 out of 355 MEPs voted to ban glyphosate completely in 2022 and to refuse the 10 year re-license for glyphosate, with restrictions on use from 2018.

Million-dollar grant to fund corn breeding efforts

The University of Illinois is set to start an organic corn breeding initiative using grant money.

WAND-TV’s partners at The News-Gazette report the campus will claim $2 million from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The News-Gazette says consumers will grade the products farmers create with the organic corn parts.

Rep. Rodney Davis, who announced the grant, says the money will help farmers in Illinois create the “highest quality products”. He believes farmers will be able to produce more foods and make more money through breeding.

Docs Show How Monsanto Crushes Dissent with Thousands of Paid Trolls

“Monsanto even started the aptly-named ‘Let Nothing Go’ program to leave nothing, not even Facebook comments, unanswered; through a series of third parties, it employs individuals who appear to have no connection to the industry, who in turn post positive comments on news articles and Facebook posts, defending Monsanto, its chemicals, and GMOs.”

It isn’t as if this is really news to any of us, but it is darned satisfying to see that the truth always comes out.

This time a California court might be holding Monsanto to the fire not only for causing wide spread cancer, but proving that they used Orwellian mind control tactics to sway the public’s acceptance of their own poisoning.

Goodbye to Golden Rice? GM Trait Leads to Drastic Yield Loss and “Metabolic Meltdown”

“What the Indian researchers show is that the Golden Rice transgenes given to them by Syngenta caused a metabolic meltdown,” says Jonathan Latham, Executive Director of the Bioscience Resource Project. “The classic criticisms of genetic engineering as a plant breeding tool have always been, first, that introduced DNA will disrupt native gene sequences and, second, that unpredictable disruption of normal metabolism may result from introducing new functions. Golden Rice exemplifies these flaws to perfection.”

How Monsanto Captured the EPA (And Twisted Science) To Keep Glyphosate on the Market

The Moms Across America episode fits a pattern that has emerged since 1974, when the EPA first registered glyphosate for use: When questions have been raised about the chemical’s safety, Monsanto has ensured that the answers serve its financial interests, rather than scientific accuracy and transparency. Our two-year investigation found incontrovertible evidence that Monsanto has exerted deep influence over EPA decisions since glyphosate first came on the market—via Roundup—more than 40 years ago.

We have closely examined the publicly available archive of EPA documents from the earliest days of the agency’s consideration of glyphosate. Significant portions of the relevant documents have either been partially redacted or omitted entirely. But this archived material reveals that EPA staff scientists, who found much of the data submitted by Monsanto unacceptable, did place great weight upon a 1983 mouse study that showed glyphosate was carcinogenic.

Tyson Foods Linked to Largest Toxic Dead Zone in U.S. History

What many people don't realize is that this livestock feed production is controlled by a very small number of large and powerful corporations, making huge upstream profits, but creating massive downstream pollution. These companies—ADM, Bunge, Cargill (often referred to as the ABCs)—don't have much of a public reputation, as they don't sell directly to individual consumers. Under our current regulatory system, they're also not responsible for their run-off or excess fertilizer use, both of which are classified as "non-point source" pollution. In other words, soil erosion and run-off from enormous swaths of America's crop fields are washing into the waterways, and taxpayers shoulder the burden. These two factors mean that industrial agriculture companies operate with impunity while polluting the land, rivers and oceans.

These baby foods and formulas tested positive for arsenic, lead and BPA in new study

Mainstream brands including Gerber, Enfamil, Plum Organics and Sprout were among the worst offenders — scoring two out of five in the Clean Label Project's report card for toxic metals. Plus, 60% of products claiming to be "BPA free" tested positive for the industrial chemical bisphenol A. The quantities of contaminates range, but some products tested positive for up to 600 parts of arsenic per billion. That's far more than just trace amounts.

Arsenic was the most common contaminate spotted in the Clean Label Project study. Nearly 80% of infant formula samples tested positive for arsenic. The toxin is associated with developmental defects, cardiovascular disease, neurotoxicity, diabetes and even cancer, according to the World Health Organization.

Jaclyn Bowen, executive director of Clean Label Project and a food safety scientist, said rice-based baby food such as snack puffs had some of the highest levels of arsenic.

Monsanto halts launch of chemical after users complain of rashes

The delayed launch of what Monsanto calls a blockbuster product is another setback for the company, which is already battling to keep a new version of a herbicide on the market in the face of complaints that it damaged millions of acres of crops this summer.

Study ties pesticides in food to reduced fertility in women

"There have been concerns for some time that exposure to low doses of pesticides through diet, such as those that we observed in this study, may have adverse health effects, especially in susceptible populations such as pregnant women and their fetus, and on children," she said. "Our study provides evidence that this concern is not unwarranted."

"A reasonable choice based on these findings is to consume low-pesticide-residue fruits and vegetables instead of high-pesticide-residue ones. Another option is to go organic for the fruits and vegetables known to contain high pesticide residues," she said. "It is very important to keep in mind that, as far as we are aware, this is the first time that this association is reported, so it is extremely important that our findings are replicated in other studies."

In this episode, you will learn about the pesticide glyphosate, its impacts on health, and what can be done to help the body detoxify it.

None would be good enough. Whitten renewed the rider every year until he retired in 1995. Whitten’s obstinacy on behalf of agriculture cemented the security of farm antibiotic use in the United States. The United States let growth promoters and preventive dosing flourish unregulated. More and more evidence— which is to say, larger, deadlier outbreaks—would accumulate for decades before anyone found the courage to try to control farm antibiotics again.

Excerpted from Big Chicken by Maryn McKenna; published by National Geographic Partners on September 12th, 2017.

Brockovich: “Today Moms Across America released glyphosate test results revealing that all of the five popular orange juice brands tested positive for glyphosate weed killer. Moms Across America founder Zen Honeycutt stated, "The discovery of glyphosate residue in orange juice is unacceptable, especially since a branch of the World Health Organization designated glyphosate a probable carcinogen, two years ago, back in the spring of 2015. The EPA has had ample time to revoke the license of this chemical and restrict its use in our food and beverage crops. As confirmed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, our children, who frequently drink orange juice for breakfast, are especially vulnerable to pesticides and measures should be taken immediately to protect them."

Arkansas Plant Board Backs Dicamba Ban Next Summer in Blow to Monsanto

The Arkansas Plant Board has approved new regulations that prohibit the use of dicamba from April 16 through Oct. 31, 2018 after receiving nearly 1,000 complaints of pesticide misuse in the state.

Glyphosate: Less toxic than table salt?

Backhaus points out that:

1. Glyphosate is never used in its pure form – it’s always mixed with additives (adjuvants) that are toxic in their own right. So comparisons based on the pure chemical are meaningless.

2. The toxicity scale is based on the LD50 value of each substance – the concentration that kills half the organisms after short-term exposure to the compound in question. But the LD50 is about acute lethality. The concern with glyphosate herbicides is not how many people will keel over and die from a high short-term exposure (few) but how many will be affected by realistic low doses over a long-term period (potentially many). Particular concerns with glyphosate herbicides are developmental effects and cancer. Cancer does not arise from acute toxicity, but from long-term chronic toxicity. Cami Ryan’s infographic has nothing to say about these crucial endpoints.

From Dietitians for Professional Integrity, a new study published in the British Medical Journal finds that...

"industry payments to journal editors are common and often large, particularly for certain subspecialties. Journals should consider the potential impact of such payments on public trust in published research."

Payments by US pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to US medical journal editors: retrospective observational study

* "Journal editors wield enormous power; they are the individuals who determine a substantial amount of the content and conclusions of what appears in their journals, including article selection, article content, and which articles have accompanying editorials."

* "Compared with author conflict of interest, editorial conflict of interest has been infrequently studied."

* "We used information from the CMS Open Payments database to examine financial payments from industry to US editors of 52 prestigious medical journals drawn from 26 specialties in 2014. We found that 50.9% of editors received at least some general payments from industry, and these payments were often large."

* "Our finding that editors of high impact journals (in specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology) receive larger payments than the typical practicing physician of the same specialty should raise questions."

* "It is important to acknowledge that we do not know if editorial relations influence publication decisions. In the best case, the answer would be a categorical “no.” That said, even the appearance of conflicts of interest can severely damage the fragile public trust in the medical research enterprise.52 Editors have an important influence and responsibility for ensuring the integrity of medical research.45 Editorships at high impact journals are sought after positions, and editors set the tone for the rest of the academic profession."

Monsanto Attacks Scientists After Studies Show Trouble For Weedkiller Dicamba

* "Dicamba, an old weedkiller that is being used in new ways, has thrust Bradley and a half-dozen other university weed scientists into the unfamiliar role of whistleblower, confronting what they believe are misleading and scientifically unfounded claims by one of the country's biggest seed and pesticide companies: Monsanto."

* "Dicamba has a well-known defect. It's volatile; it tends to evaporate from the soil or vegetation where it has been sprayed, creating a cloud of plant-killing vapor that can spread in unpredictable directions. It happens more in hot weather, and Monsanto's new strategy inevitably would mean spraying dicamba in the heat of summer."

* "Monsanto and two other chemical companies, BASF and DuPont, announced that they had solved this problem with new "low-volatility" formulations of dicamba that don't evaporate as easily. Yet the companies — especially Monsanto — made it difficult for university scientists to verify those claims with independent tests before the products were released commercially."

* "To make matters worse, Monsanto started selling its new dicamba-tolerant soybeans in 2016, before the new low-volatility formulations of dicamba were even approved for sale."

* "When spraying started, complaints rolled in. The new "low volatility" versions of dicamba didn't stay where they belonged. They drifted into nearby fields, damaging crops there — mostly soybeans, but also vegetables and orchards. There were reports of damage from Mississippi to Minnesota, but the problem was worst in Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee."

* ""All I got was denial that there was a problem," Kevin Bradley, a professor of weed science at the University of Missouri, says. "What I kept hearing was: It's not a big problem nationwide; we always have these kinds of mistakes or accidents with the introduction of any new technology."

* "So Bradley, a past president of the Weed Science Society of America, started collecting data on crop damage from across the country, mapping the epidemic. By the end of the summer, Bradley estimated that at least 3.1 million acres of crops had shown some injury from drifting dicamba."

* "Monsanto's executives insist that the people who sprayed dicamba were just learning how to do it properly and didn't follow directions. Partridge says his company checked out more than a thousand cases of dicamba damage, "and in 88 percent of those instances, the label was not followed." Farmers or pesticide applicators sprayed dicamba too close to neighboring fields, didn't clean out their equipment properly or used the wrong nozzles."

* "Bradley and his colleagues in other states say that much of the damage they saw this year looks more like what they had feared all along: volatilization."

* "Monsanto — and farmers who want to use dicamba — have been fighting back. In Arkansas, where state regulators proposed a ban on dicamba during the growing season next year, Monsanto recently sued the regulators, arguing that the ban was based on "unsubstantiated theories regarding product volatility that are contradicted by science."

* "The company called on regulators to disregard information from Jason Norsworthy, one of the University of Arkansas' weed researchers, because he had recommended that farmers use a non-dicamba alternative from a rival company. Monsanto also attacked the objectivity of Ford Baldwin, a former university weed scientist who now works as a consultant to farmers and herbicide companies."

* "Bradley says executives from Monsanto have made repeated calls to his supervisors. "What the exact nature of those calls [was], I'm not real sure," Bradley says. "But I'm pretty sure it has something to do with not being happy with what I'm saying.""

* "Over the course of recent decades, publicly funded agricultural extension services have shrunk, and farmers have turned to seed and chemical companies for advice. "It's become so weighted towards — 'well, the companies did their research, and it said this, so that must be the way it is!' " Bradley says. "You know what? Maybe that's not the way it is."

The FBI’s Hunt for Two Missing Piglets Reveals the Federal Cover-Up of Barbaric Factory Farms

"Animal welfare laws are woefully inadequate, and the ways they are enforced is typically little more than a joke," The Intercept's Glenn Greenwald states in this excellent article that also touches on the legal and political aspects of this issue that raise more than a few red flags.

Conflict of interest FYI: As you read this piece, keep in mind that global animal pharmaceutical giant Elanco -- which believes that in order to feed 9 billion people by 2050 we need more conventionally-raised cattle, chickens, and pigs -- has been in partnership with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation since 2013 via a $500,000 "Future of Food" grant.

* "At Smithfield, like most industrial pig farms, the abuse and torture primarily comes not from rogue employees violating company procedures. Instead, the cruelty is inherent in the procedures themselves."

* "Pigs are placed in a crate made of iron bars that is the exact length and width of their bodies, so they can do nothing for their entire lives but stand on a concrete floor, never turn around, never see any outdoors, never even see their tails, never move more than an inch."

* "The pigs are so desperate to get out of their crates that they often spend weeks trying to bite through the iron bars until their gums gush blood, bash their heads against the walls, and suffer a disease in which their organs end up mangled in the wrong places, from the sheer physical trauma of trying to escape from a tiny space or from acute anxiety (called “organ torsion”)."

* "The U.S. government uses extreme measures to protect the agricultural industry — not from unjust economic loss, violent crime, or theft, but from political embarrassment and accurate reporting that damages the industry’s reputation."

* "A sweeping framework of draconian laws — designed to shield the industry from criticism and deter and punish its critics — has been enacted across the country by federal and state legislatures that are captive to the industry’s high-paid lobbyists. The most notorious of these measures are the “ag-gag” laws, which make publishing videos of farm conditions taken as part of undercover operations a felony, punishable by years in prison."

* "When Smithfield learned that The Intercept was reporting on these issues, a spokesperson emailed a statement and invited further questions. The statement claims that in response to DxE’s reporting, Smithfield “immediately launched an investigation and completed a third-party audit,” and “the audit results show no findings of animal mistreatment.”"

* "This is a typical industry tactic: When they claim, as they almost always do, that their paid auditors discovered “no findings of animal mistreatment,” what they mean is that there was no evidence that their employees engaged in activities that corporate procedures explicitly prohibit (such as beating the animals or administering electric shock)."

* "But what the audit does not do is ask whether the procedures themselves (such as gestational crating) are abusive and thus constitute “mistreatment.”

* "The USDA is typically dominated by executives from the very factory farm industries that are most in need of vibrant regulation. For that reason, animal welfare laws are woefully inadequate, but the ways in which they are enforced is typically little more than a bad joke."

ADM invests in non-GMO high-protein soybean meal

STRAUBING, GERMANY — Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) will be making further investments at its crushing facility in Straubing to produce non-GMO high-protein soybean meal. Located in southern Germany, the added capability will allow the site to serve ADM’s growing portfolio of soybean meal customers and support local farmers in increasing the region’s soybean output.

The move to processing non-GMO soybeans is a part of the company’s growth plan.

“The decision to invest in the production of non-GMO high-protein soybean meal is a logical step after the successful implementation of non-GMO soybean processing at the site in May 2016,” said Jon Turney, general manager, European soybean crush at ADM. “The demand for non-GMO soybean meal from European soybeans is steadily growing. With the production of non-GMO high-protein soybean meal, ADM will be able to better meet the needs of its poultry feed customers, as well as the dairy and pig feed markets.”

This Tiny Country Feeds the World - The Netherlands has become an agricultural giant by showing what the future of farming could look like.

"Almost two decades ago, the Dutch made a national commitment to sustainable agriculture under the rallying cry “Twice as much food using half as many resources.” Since 2000, van den Borne and many of his fellow farmers have reduced dependence on water for key crops by as much as 90 percent. They’ve almost completely eliminated the use of chemical pesticides on plants in greenhouses, and since 2009 Dutch poultry and livestock producers have cut their use of antibiotics by as much as 60 percent."

It certainly calls into question the fear-mongering narratives put forth by agrochemical giants -- which also often mock urban farming.

A Kansas City Writer's New Book Investigates How We Ended Up 'Doused' In Weed Killer

Gillam has been investigating biotech crop technology, agricultural chemicals and pesticide development, along with the environmental impacts of American food production, since 1998. When she began covering these topics, one of her first assignments was to learn everything she could about Monsanto from a business standpoint.

The more she learned, she says, the clearer it became to her that Monsanto was knowingly passing off a product as safe which not only had terrible consequences for the health of consumers and farmers, but a devastating environmental impact as well.

In our recent conversation, I asked Gillam to talk specifically about one common agricultural chemical called glyphosate, which she says has been discovered in almost everyone's urine.

KNIGGENDORF: "You write that the lawsuits, which began in 2015, will most likely rival the lawsuits over DDT, asbestos, and PCBs. Do you really think it’ll reach those heights?"

GILLAM: "If you talk to lawyers and independent observers and others, they do feel very strongly — and the evidence is pointing to the fact — that this could be very similar to what we’ve seen in the tobacco industry, for example, and with PCBs and asbestos. They’re all examples where giant industries and corporations proclaim their products to be safe, over and over and over again for decades. And it was really only through litigation and the uncovering of internal documents that the public and the regulators and the policy makers were able to see clearly the dangers that had been hidden from the public."

KNIGGENDORF: "It also sounds like these chemical companies also have their fingerprints all over websites people would go to for information. Are there websites that you know of as being truly independent?"

GILLAM: "I would have said WebMD is great. But you see in the internal documents how Monsanto and their PR agencies and other surrogates enlist people to write blogs and (material for) WebMD. The PR company will draft it for them, but they want it to look like it’s coming from an independent individual. It’s outrageous."

Fewer than one third of Box Tops foods met the Smart Snacks standards. Schools should consider whether the benefit of participation outweighs the harm of exposing kids to unhealthful marketing. Dark chocolate is now a health food. Here’s how that happened. The Mars company has sponsored hundreds of scientific studies to show cocoa is good for you.

Such overwhelmingly positive findings suggest this area of industry-funded nutrition science may be biased. “By spending a lot of money on one topic but not another, [it] can sort of create a publication bias,” said Richard Bazinet, a University of Toronto nutrition researcher. In other words, companies pouring money into studying a certain food and a specific set of questions about that food pushes the research agenda in a particular direction — one that the food companies favor. (In the Cochrane review of chocolate research, studies funded by companies with a commercial interest in the results tended to report effects on blood pressure that were larger than the independent studies, “indicating possible bias.”)

In our review of cocoa health science published to date, we found that the most compelling (and best-studied) effect has to do with cocoa’s effects on blood pressure.

There’s promising evidence showing cocoa flavanols can increase the synthesis of nitric oxide in the blood vessels, which boosts blood flow (or vasodilation) and reduces blood pressure. Lower blood pressure has been linked with a lower risk of cardiovascular events like heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular mortality. According to a Cochrane systematic review of the cocoa research on blood pressure, flavanol-rich chocolate and cocoa products “cause a small (2 mmHg) blood pressure-lowering effect in mainly healthy adults in the short term.”

Jeffrey Smith on National Television this Wednesday, November 8th

On Wednesday, November 8th, watch Jeffrey Smith on the national TV show, The Doctors, in an hour-long episode discussing Monsanto and its herbicide, Roundup. Jeffrey, bestselling author of Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette, is a leading spokesperson on the health dangers of GMOs and Roundup, and the ways Monsanto manipulates science to cover up health impacts.

Also appearing is Brent Wisner, a lead attorney in federal litigation against Monsanto, in which thousands claim that exposure to Roundup caused non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The litigation forced Monsanto to release documents, emails, and texts, which, according to Wisner’s firm, “tell an alarming story of ghostwriting, scientific manipulation, collusion with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and previously undisclosed information about how the human body absorbs glyphosate. These documents, which Monsanto does not want you to see, provide a deeper understanding of the serious public health consequences surrounding Monsanto’s conduct in marketing Roundup.”

Teri McCall, a plaintiff in the case, will also be on the show. Teri’s husband Jack, accompanied by the family dog Duke, regularly sprayed Roundup around their farm. Jack died of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, while Duke died of lymphoma.

Jeffrey Smith, the founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, first appeared on The Doctors in 2015, after the World Health Organization’s expert committee made the determination that Roundup’s active ingredient glyphosate probably causes cancer. In that show, he faced off against Donna Farmer, Monsanto’s senior toxicologist, who dismissed the herbicide’s link to cancer saying, “I mean this very honestly, I am extremely highly confident in this product.” But according to Monsanto’s secret documents, says Smith, Farmer was far from confident in private.

From Brussels to Arkansas, a Tough Week for Monsanto

Opposition from France and Italy doomed a European Union vote on Thursday to reauthorize the world’s most popular weedkiller, glyphosate, a decision that came hours after Arkansas regulators moved to ban an alternative weedkiller for much of 2018.

The decisions are a double blow to the agrochemical industry and particularly to the chemicals giant Monsanto…

With Roundup On The Rocks, Monsanto Hatches New Seeds And A Dangerous New Plan

Monsanto has aggressively marketed its genetically modified, dicamba-tolerant seeds along with its associated herbicide, hoping to capture half of the entire U.S. soybean market by 2019. Monsanto even began pushing dicamba-tolerant seeds on farmers before its new dicamba herbicide was approved by the U.S. government, forcing farmers who bought the seeds to use older and illegal dicamba-based herbicides. Growing dicamba-tolerant seeds would preclude farmers from using any other but the dicamba-based herbicide during growing season, and create the risk of having their crops overrun by weeds, including so-called “superweeds.”

The EU and glyphosate: it's time to put children's health before pesticides

Our children are growing up exposed to a toxic cocktail of weedkillers, insecticides, and fungicides. It’s on their food and in their water, and it’s even doused over their parks and playgrounds. Many governments insist that our standards of protection from these pesticides are strong enough. But as a scientist and a lawyer who specialises in chemicals and their potential impact on people’s fundamental rights, I beg to differ.

Paediatricians have referred to childhood exposure to pesticides as creating a “silent pandemic” of disease and disability. Exposure in pregnancy and childhood is linked to birth defects, diabetes, and cancer. Because a child’s developing body is more sensitive to exposure than adults and takes in more of everything – relative to their size, children eat, breathe, and drink much more than adults – they are particularly vulnerable to these toxic chemicals. Increasing evidence shows that even at “low” doses of childhood exposure, irreversible health impacts can result. But, most victims cannot prove the cause of their disability or disease, limiting our ability to hold those responsible to account.

Seneff: “Jeffrey Smith has a long new article out showing that people heal their guts when they switch to non-GMO and/or organic food. He thinks glyphosate is a big part of the reason. You can find a link to the full article here.”

New Findings Show Avoiding GMOs Improves Health

Survey results reveal that 3,256 people reported improvements in 28 health conditions after reducing their GMO intake. An astonishing 85% of respondents reported improvements in their “digestive problems,” the ailment most commonly cited. Of these respondents, 80% said their digestive issues were “significantly improved”, “nearly gone”, or “completely recovered”. Remarkably, at least half the respondents also reported recovery from fatigue, obesity, brain fog, food allergies, and anxiety or depression. To access the article with the complete list of conditions that improved, click here.

How to green the world's deserts and reverse climate change | Allan Savory

"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert," begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world's grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert.

UK will back total ban on bee-harming pesticides, Michael Gove reveals

The decision reverses the government’s previous position and is justified by recent new evidence showing neonicotinoids have contaminated the whole landscape and cause damage to colonies of bees. It also follows the revelation that 75% of all flying insects have disappeared in Germany and probably much further afield, a discovery Gove said had shocked him.

Monsanto, Henry Miller, and the FDA

Now that it has come to light that Monsanto has apparently ghost-writen for Miller about RoundUp/glyphosate, I am even more curious about what kind of influence that company might have had over Miller back when the FDA policy was being formed.

The World According to Monsanto

Little Rock, Ark.: The Arkansas State Plant Board voted today to ban the pesticide dicamba for the 2018 planting season. The decision was based on advice from a task force composed of scientists, farmers and other experts. Arkansas came to the decision after a year of record crop losses caused by dicamba — during 2017, the state received more pesticide complaints than it ever has in one year.

Behavioral impairments following repeated intranasal glyphosate-based herbicide administration in mice

Abstract: ...The present study reveals that repeated IN exposure to Gly-BH in mice affects the central nervous system probably altering neurotransmission pathways that participate or regulate locomotor activity, anxiety and memory.

The article below is long but well worth the time to read it. It encapsulates the reasons why no one can trust regulatory reports claiming that glyphosate is safe.

How Monsanto captured the EPA (and twisted science) to keep glyphosate on the market

The Moms Across America testing was not part of any formal scientific study, but Monsanto — the owner of the Roundup trademark and the premier glyphosate manufacturer — jumped to defend its most profitable pesticide based on a new study that found no glyphosate in breast milk. But this research, purported to be “independent”, was actually backed by the corporation itself.

“Anybody who finds out about this is not going to trust a chemical company over a mom, even if [that mom] is a stranger,” says Moms Across America founder Zen Honeycutt. “A mother’s only special interest is the well-being of her family and her community.” Honeycutt says she has been sharply criticized for the breast milk project because it was not a formal scientific study. But she says her intention was “to find out whether or not glyphosate was getting in our breast milk, and if it was, to have further scientific studies conducted and therefore to provoke a movement so that policies would be changed”.

Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation

This skillfully researched book focuses on how a small socio-political American elite seeks to establish its control over the very basis of human survival, the provision of our daily bread. Control the food and you control the people. This is no ordinary book about the perils of GMO. Engdahl takes the reader inside the corridors of power, into the backrooms of the science labs, behind closed doors in the corporate boardrooms. The author reveals a World of profit-driven political intrigue, government corruption and coercion, where genetic manipulation and the patenting of life forms are used to gain worldwide control over food production. The book is an eye-opener, a must-read for all those committed to the causes of social justice and World peace.

The Poison Papers - Documenting the Hidden History of Chemical and Pesticide Hazards in the United States

The Poison Papers are a compilation of over 20,000 documents obtained from federal agencies and chemical manufacturers via open records requests and public interest litigation. They include internal scientific studies and summaries of studies, internal memos and reports, meeting minutes, strategic discussions, and sworn testimonies. The majority of these documents have been scanned and digitized by us for the first time and represent nearly three tons of material. The regulatory agency sources of these documents include: the EPA, the USDA Forest Service, the FDA, the Veterans Administration, and the Department of Defense. Chemical manufacturers referenced in the documents include: Dow, Monsanto, DuPont, and Union Carbide, as well as many smaller manufacturers and the commercial testing companies who worked for them.

The Poison Papers are a project of the Bioscience Resource Project and the Center for Media and Democracy. The Poison Papers were largely collected by author and activist Carol Van Strum.

The Poison Papers catalogue both the secret concerns of industry and regulators over the hazards of pesticides and other chemicals and their efforts to conceal those concerns.

U of S research reveals controversial insecticides are toxic to songbirds

“These chemicals are having a strong impact on songbirds. We are seeing significant weight loss and the birds’ migratory orientation being significantly altered,” said Eng, who also worked with colleagues from York University. “Effects were seen from eating the equivalent of just three to four imidacloprid treated canola seeds or eight chlorpyrifos granules a day for three days.”

Neonicotinoids have become the most popular class of insecticides among farmers because they are very successful at killing pests and are easy to apply.

“In the past farmers might have placed an insecticide into a crop duster and would spray their fields with the insecticide. However, now farmers have access to seeds that in many cases are already coated with neonicotinoids,” said Morrissey. “Birds that stop on migration are potentially eating these seeds, but can also mistakenly ingest the chlorpyrifos pellets for grit, something they normally eat to aid in the digestion of seeds.”

GMO Apples Hit Store Shelves This Week—but Where?

This month, up to 400 Midwest grocery stores started quietly testing packages of sliced “Arctic Apple” GMO apples.

Intrexon, the company marketing the apples, won’t tell us which stores are selling them.

The company also won’t label its apples “GMO” because, according to Intrexon’s CEO: “We didn’t want put ‘GMO’ and a skull and crossbones on the package.”

TAKE ACTION: Help us find the GMO apples! Join the scavenger hunt, November 7 – December 1, to locate the stores selling GMO apples. Sign up here and we’ll send you instructions, talking points, etc.

The Arctic Apple is one of the first GMOs to be marketed directly to consumers instead of farmers. It was created for purely cosmetic purposes to never brown, no matter how old or rotten it is.
In other words, it’s completely unnecessary.

It’s also risky. The Arctic Apple was developed using a technology that many scientists worry may have unintended, negative consequences—for our health, and the environment.

So why make a GMO apple that consumers don’t need or want? To generate profits for companies like Intrexon.

And guess what? If consumers, many of them unaware they’re buying a GMO product, buy enough of these apples, and generate enough profits for Intrexon, it could open the floodgates to other new risky and unlabeled GMO foods that Big Ag wants to force onto your plate.

The only way to show companies like Intrexon that we don’t want their GMO apples is to not buy them—and convince grocery stores to not sell them.

But first, we have to find them.

US: Moms Across America call for total glyphosate ban

Moms Across America is now pushing for a ban and says it has support from Organic Consumers Association, Institute for Responsible Technology and Thinking Moms Revolution.

“European Member States, after considering volumes of scientific studies and numerous testimonies by lawyers and researchers, have refused to renew the license for glyphosate. If it is not safe for Europeans, and Malta, Sri Lanka, and Argentina who have banned glyphosate, then we do not want glyphosate in our United States,” says Zen Honeycutt, Executive Director of Moms Across America.

“We urge our governors to take bold steps like the Governor of Arkansas and Missouri did in banning Dicamba, and ban glyphosate herbicides and toxic chemicals immediately.”

Years Before Vietnam, the Chemical Industry Knew About Dioxins

But the letter from the Monsanto physician, stamped “Confidential”, is dated 1956, well before the Vietnam war. It is part of an extensive correspondence between German chemical manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim and US chemical group Dow. From such correspondence it can be concluded that the chemical industry knew of what one called “the extraordinary danger of the tetrachlorobenzodioxin”, yet kept it secret.

Monsanto, U.S. farm groups sue California over glyphosate warnings

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Monsanto Co and U.S. farm groups sued California on Wednesday to stop the state from requiring cancer warnings on products containing the widely used weed killer glyphosate, which the company sells to farmers to apply to its genetically engineered crops.

California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), which is named in the federal lawsuit, said it stands by the decision to include glyphosate on the state’s list of products known to cause cancer and believes it followed proper legal procedures.

Monsanto and groups representing corn, soy and wheat farmers reject that glyphosate causes cancer. They say in the lawsuit that California’s requirement for warnings would force sellers of products containing the chemical to spread false information.

Food Evolution

GMO propaganda film on Hulu

“Food Evolution” Documentary Supports GMOs, but Not Science

“Food Evolution” devotes a disproportionately small segment to dominant herbicide-resistant crops, and the glyphosate herbicides they were designed to use. And, once again, the discussion is limited to food safety. But even for this narrow topic, the film gets the science wrong.

“Food Evolution” documentary supports GMOs, but not science, Part 2

It emphasizes “minor” GMOs at the near exclusion of those planted on 99 percent of acreage, and it is unjustifiably one-sided on the risks of the most widely used, and GMO-driven, pesticide in the world. It excludes mention of an important carcinogenicity assessment of glyphosate based on incorrect evaluation of the responsible agency by the film’s director. It misrepresents the use of insecticides on major GMO crops and ignores harm to monarch butterflies. It misrepresents organic farming and GMO industry influence on research and media by never mentioning the much larger influence of the GMO industry over scientists. It favors the anecdotal opinion of a few pro-GMO farmers over the concerns of large farmers organizations in the developing world that are troubled by GMOs. It ignores the most prestigious U.S. science body’s assessment that GMOs are just one of several possible means of assuring food security. And it ignores the role of GMOs in globally harmful industrial agriculture. The film excludes the substantial peer-reviewed science on these topics that are not favorable to GMOs, and includes almost exclusively perspectives or research that supports the safety and value of GMOs, including by major representatives of the GMO industry.

In the end, the film is a mockery of science. Acceptance of such propaganda as science will only serve to raise questions about the credibility of the endeavor of science itself unless recognized and identified for what it really is.

Chinese scientists genetically engineered a low-fat pig. But for whose benefit?

“So many scientific breakthroughs that we’ve seen have undesirable consequences,” Harris said. “We won’t know for dozens of years, maybe 100 years, if there are unforeseen consequences for genetically modified animals.”

New Study Shows Human Glyphosate Levels Have More than Doubled in 23 Years

“Prior to the introduction of genetically modified foods, very few people had detectable levels of glyphosate,” says study author Paul Mills, of the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine. “Our exposure to these chemicals has increased significantly over the years but most people are unaware that they are consuming them through their diet.”

“I am concerned,” he tells Radio New Zealand. “This is one of the reasons I put together this study, because there wasn’t such information in the biomedical literature, and I thought we needed it, and we needed to start having some good data to have a conversation around these questions.”

Exposure to Glyphosate, Chemical Found in Weed Killers, Increased Over 23 Years

These pre-sliced apples may be a short-cut to health risks.

To accomplish the non-browning effect, scientists at Okanagan Specialty Fruits introduced genetically engineered genes that make their apples produce double stranded RNA (dsRNA) to shut off the browning genes. The question that must be asked: if we consume the dsRNA in the apple, can it influence how our genes work? Will these genetically modified organisms (GMOs), eaten as apple pies, apple salad, or whatever, change our development, physiology, and behavior?

The laboratory process used to create these apples carries multiple health risks according to Dr. Jack Heinemann, a professor of genetics and molecular biology at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Jeffrey Smith interviewed Dr. Heinemann just after the first approval of the genetically engineered non-browning apple in 2015.

Regeneration: Moving Beyond Gloom and Doom on USDA Organic Standards

Last week the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) rejected the pleas of organic activists, farmers and many businesses to “keep the soil in organic” by voting to allow growers of hydroponic vegetables to label their produce “organic.”

The NOSB's vote did little to shore up consumer faith in the USDA Organic label, especially after well-publicized news reports earlier this year that accused a few high-profile organic brands of giving "organic" a bad name by skirting the rules. And it had some industry pioneers so angry and disheartened, that according to the Washington Post they were even “threatening to leave the program they helped create.”

The Rodale Institute and a broad coalition of farmers, ranchers, nonprofits, scientists, and brands on September 13, 2017, unveiled draft standards for a new third-party Regenerative Organic (RO) Certification.

When finalized, the RO certification will go “beyond USDA Organic” by establishing higher standards for soil health, land management, animal welfare and farmer and worker fairness. The RO label will appear on certified regenerative products, next to the “USDA Organic” label, alerting consumers to the fact that the RO-labeled product not only meets USDA organic standards, but exceeds them.

The NOSB’s vote to allow hydroponic foods to be labeled as “USDA Organic” has proven once again that big corporations and federal bureaucrats have greater control over organic standards than organic consumers and small organic farmers. “Big Organic” is now dictating the policies of the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP).

Title 21 U.S.C. - Section 343, Chapter 1 - Adulterated or Misbranded Foods or Drugs

The FDA representative I spoke with this morning explained that if a company advertises a product as "corn free" when, in fact, it contains derivatives of corn; this constitutes false labeling, and is illegal; e.g., corn-derived xanthan gum, corn-derived ascorbic acid, etc. Since corn has not yet been declared an official allergen, they are not required to label corn/corn derivatives in their products; however, they may not make corn-free claims if their products contain any derivatives of corn.

This is why it is very important that you call your state FDA representative to file an adverse reaction report by telephone if you experience an allergic reaction to products labeled as corn free. Note that they require photographs of each side of the container to be submitted to them electronically. It would also be helpful if you save your receipt, so you can let them know the date of purchase and from where the product was purchased.

If you discover a product that is labeled as corn free; but it is apparent that it contains corn derivatives, refer the company to the following USC regulation:

Iowa State Extension forester warns of dicamba dangers

“It’s going to be scary,” said Randall. “Gone will be all the grapes in the state, because one whiff and they are done. Tomatoes are gone, most of your garden will be gone, our trees will be burned. It’s just not good.”

The herbicide’s use is so risky, some insurance companies refuse to back up commercial spraying of dicamba because of the payouts they anticipate.

When affected by dicamba, different species of trees and plants develop different symptoms. The leaves of the mulberry tree fold up into cup shapes, while the leaves of oak trees curl down the center.

This winter, the ISU Forestry extension will create a public website to track the damage of dicamba and provide images of what the herbicide’s damage looks like on a variety of trees. The website will be available next summer.

Landmark research on the toxicity of GM Bt crops by Jonathan Latham

Have Monsanto and the Biotech Industry Turned Natural Bt Pesticides into GMO “Super toxins”?

In our publication, authored along with Madeleine Love and Angelika Hilbeck, of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), we show that commercial GMO Bt toxins differ greatly from their natural precursors. These differences are important. They typically cause GMO Bt proteins to be more toxic. Worse, they also cause them to be active against many more species than natural forms of Bt toxins.

But, as we found, GMO Bt toxins are clearly distinct from natural Bt toxins and those used in more traditional farming methods:...

Why The Food Movement Is Unstoppable

I have proposed five characteristics that define and explain the food movement and distinguish it from other social movements.

1) The food movement is self-organized. It is an anarchic and spontaneous happening that does not depend on specific charismatic leaders.

2) Complementing this, the food movement is universal in its appeal. Rich and poor, employed and unemployed, young and old, anyone is welcome. Thus Prince Charles and landless peasants are both part of it because there are no barriers to entry.

3) The food movement is international. Whatever local needs may be, the food movement can always meet them.

4) The food movement is low-budget. Unlike all other mass movements, the food movement is not dependent on rich donors or powerful foundations. It has a few of those, but is not beholden to them or controlled by them.

5) The food movement has many and diverse values. Health concerns, animal welfare, economic justice, ecological sustainability. All of these find a home there.

Dr. Anthony Samsel (New Paper coming in 2018)

Glyphosate - Horses (the videos are about 10 minutes each)

Samsel: “What I found was that their feed was contaminated.” “There are no tissues that are excluded.”

Seneff: “Exciting news from Anthony Samsel in a ten minute interview with Tony Mitra on new developments in his research on glyphosate. Just to be clear, the "peer reviewed paper" that he mentions in the introduction is "under construction" and not yet submitted to a journal -- and we will likely have difficulties getting it published.”

Anthony Samsel on Glyphosate getting in proteins – such as Keratin by Tony Mitra

In this first of three part interview, on items to be covered in a new article that Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff are currently writing, Samsel discloses his research on how glyphosate gets into all parts of horses that are fed glyphosate laced diet, including its hooves, which caused the hooves to collapse and not carry the weight of the horses.

Research on horses covered their blood, urine, feces, hooves and even semen. Glyphosate gets into the blood and can get into all tissues and all parts of the horse biology wherever glycine is needed. This indicates the near certainty that this is also happening to all other mammals including humans.

He got fingernail samples of human patients that are suffering from Scleroderma, and he found presence of glyphosate in their finger nails.

This ability of glyphosate to penetrate deep into our biology and integrate itself in places where it is unwanted, can cause an near endless chain of illnesses. What is even more surprising, is that most of these observations were already done back in the 1970s by Monsanto and Dupont. Anthony Samsel reconfirmed that by independent analysis that this indeed is the case and is also making the subject public, 45 years after they were first observed by the promoters of the product – and kept from our scrutiny. This hiding of the safety data on glyphosate, in my view, makes the approval of glyphosate illegal, apart from being extremely dangerous for all life on the planet.

First part of the talk is covered in above video.

Anthony Samsel on Glyphosate in Keratin, Part 1 - Published on Nov 16, 2017

Scientist Anthony Samsel discusses his research on how glyphosate, once ingested with food, can get into every cell and into every protein - including keratin that makes nails, hair, scale and hooves.

This is the first of a three part interview. He he covers glyphosate's intrusion into keratin, as tested by him on horses hooves that got damaged.

Glyphosate Causes Cancer: EPA “Trade Secret” Sealed Files Reveal Cancer Link Known Back in the 1970s

...Dr. Samsel states that glyphosate is not a “probable” carcinogen, but it is a carcinogen, based on studies that were hidden for years as they were classified as “trade secrets.” Here is the trailer for this interview:...

...Another study, according to Samsel, showed that glyphosate went right into the animal’s bone marrow. Samsel claims this is dangerous, because new cells are born in the marrow and pass on to the thymus gland, where T-cells and white blood cells are eventually formed. Samsel considers this significant, especially in light of the recent WHO report that listed glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic” in causing non-Hodgkin lymphoma and prostate cancer….

According to Samsel, these studies from 1978 to 1980 by Biodynamics in New Jersey clearly showed tumor growths in many organs at low doses of glyphosate. These studies were submitted to the EPA in 1981. The studies showed significant tumor growth in organs such as the kidneys, but these studies were dismissed as “not significant,” primarily by allegedly manipulating the control groups.

Here is Part 1 of the interview:...

...In Part 2, Dr. Samsel explains how one of the ways Monsanto was able to dismiss results of their studies was by using a standard lab animal feed supplied by Purina, which is known to increase carcinomas. This animal feed was in the “control” animals, to minimize the effects of the results in animals exposed to glyphosate. Samsel states that he has “several studies” that show this link between the lab feed and cancers….

Attorney Brent Wisner Calls Out Glyphosate and Monsanto on “The Doctors”

Nov. 10, 2017 – Los Angeles, California – – Attorney R. Brent Wisner of the law firm Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman appeared as a guest on an episode of The Doctors this week to discuss the growing controversy and health risks associated with glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer.

“This is almost verbatim what big tobacco said about cigarettes causing cancer,” Wisner said during the episode, comparing Monsanto’s tactics in defense of Roundup to those of the tobacco industry’s defense of cigarettes.

“For years, [big tobacco] generated studies saying it didn’t cause cancer, saying ‘we need more science, we need more science.’ It took lawyers, a coalition of activists and people who really cared to expose the fraud for what it was…and we are in the middle of that right now.”

In The Doctors glyphosate episode, Roundup cancer attorney Brent Wisner talks about the Monsanto Papers, court documents containing internal Monsanto emails, text messages, studies and other memoranda. These documents, Wisner says, tell an alarming story of ghostwriting, scientific manipulation, collusion with regulators from around the world, and previously undisclosed information about how the human body absorbs glyphosate….

...“Roundup was supposed to be safe,” McCall’s lawsuit states. “The truth, however, is far more insidious. The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, is a carcinogen, and Monsanto has known this fact for decades.”

The twelve videos below are segments from The Doctors episode on glyphosate. Each video includes a brief summary describing the topics covered.

Show links, about 4 minutes each.

Dr. Stork says in the last segment to wash your produce with water and baking soda. Herbicides, pesticides, etc. are absorbed into the whole plant. You can’t wash it off. The only way to protect yourself and your family is to not eat these foods.

Zen Honeycutt (Moms Across America) interviews Samsel - 2013

These two videos from 2013 are the first videos I saw by Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America and Scientist Anthony Samsel. I knew right away that these folks were telling the truth as I had just completed my first weeks on an organic diet and the symptoms I was having that led me to research food, STOPPED. The pin and needle pains in my arms, hands, legs and feet STOPPED. Feeling food pass through my intestines STOPPED. Acid reflux/Gerd STOPPED. No more Gerd pills. Also at the time, I observed my granddaughter after being put on non-gmo formula. The fussiness stopped, she slept longer. Then when she was put back on gmo formula, the fussiness and sleeplessness returned.

The thousands of members in the group, Moms Across America, are moms, dads, grandparents, etc., also came to the same conclusion, that their family’s health got better when they didn’t eat these gmo foods. Fyi, Samsel started researching Glyphosate after he sprayed his own urine around his garden hoping to keep deer away and he observed that the grass died where he had sprayed his urine and he wanted to know why.

Part 1, 10 minutes

Anthony Samsel of the Glyphosate paper by Samsel and Seneff, discusses the effects of glyphosate ( the active chemical ingredient in Roundup, a registered trademark of Monsanto) which is in the majority of our food, with Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America. Covering Autism, Diabetes, Asthma, COPD and more. This stunning new information will alter how you see food and health forever.

Part 2, 11 minutes

Concerns use of weed killer is linked to antibiotic resistance

A New Zealand study has raised questions over whether products like 'Round-up' are safe to use after it was found the weed-killer can reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics.

"The message from the paper is clear, we need to reconsider our use of herbicides in light of the effect that they are having on the microbial world," Senior Lecturer in Molecular Bioscience Dr Heather Hendrickson says.

Herbicide ingredients change Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium and Escherichia coli antibiotic responses

Abstract: Herbicides are frequently released into both rural and urban environments. Commercial herbicide formulations induce adaptive changes in the way bacteria respond to antibiotics. Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium and Escherichia coli were exposed to common co-formulants of formulations, and S. enterica sv. Typhimurium was exposed to active ingredients dicamba, 2,4-D and glyphosate to determine what ingredients of the commercial formulations caused this effect. Co-formulants Tween80 and carboxymethyl cellulose induced changes in response, but the pattern of the responses differed from the active ingredients, and effect sizes were smaller. A commercial wetting agent did not affect antibiotic responses. Active ingredients induced changes in antibiotic responses similar to those caused by complete formulations. This occurred at or below recommended application concentrations. Targeted deletion of efflux pump genes largely neutralized the adaptive response in the cases of increased survival in antibiotics, indicating that the biochemistry of induced resistance was the same for formulations and specific ingredients. We found that glyphosate, dicamba, and 2,4-D, as well as co-formulants in commercial herbicides, induced a change in susceptibility of the potentially pathogenic bacteria E. coli and S. enterica to multiple antibiotics. This was measured using the efficiency of plating (EOP), the relative survival of the bacteria when exposed to herbicide and antibiotic, or just antibiotic, compared to survival on permissive media. This work will help to inform the use of non-medicinal chemical agents that induce changes in antibiotic responses.

C. Dutra: “Back in April 1994 when I and many other adults experienced 'Asthma' for the first time in their lives, our doctors did NOT know that our food system had been changed. When I saw my doctor the next day, after spending the preceding night awake because I was having great difficulty breathing, my doctor asked me if a 'new tree' was growing in the valley because all week she had her patients coming in to see her and they all had this 'Adult Onset Asthma' that I was experiencing. So our doctors did not report a surge in 'Adult Onset Asthma' to our government, because there was NO ONE to report this 'food allergy' to; actually no one knew that it was a 'food allergy' we were all experiencing. I suffered with Adult Onset Asthma for 21 years until we went ORGANIC in late Feb 2015. We both lost most of our severe stomach issues and to my surprise, I stopped having Asthma attacks. I learned that it was the GMO food I had been eating that gave me the Asthma. Today, after 23 years of eating GMO and spraying Roundup we are seeing more and more cases of cancer. You see, we have all been living in a place where no one would ever go if they knew where it would lead all of us to.
Robyn O'Brian originally wrote the following article where she makes a case for labeling GMO food, for ''. It is an excellent article that asks the question; ..."So how did the US, the FDA, allow these ingredients into our food supply while the rest of the world exercised such precaution? And while correlation is not causation, does it explain the 400% increase we have seen in the number of children with allergies? "...
Robyn answers her own question: ..." Without labels on these foods, there is no way to know. "...”

Pigs: A GMO Feeding Trial Exposes Problems

..." In the meantime, it’s crucial that genetically modified foods be labeled, so that if people experience negative effects, they and their doctors can identify them.
Correlation is not causation, but with the skyrocketing rates of food allergies now seen in the US population, studies showing an increased risk of developing allergies after moving to the United States and the fact that few independent, long-term studies have been conducted due to the intellectual property protections enjoyed by these companies, it’s not only consumers who have a basic right to know what they are eating but parents who also have a basic right to know what is in the foods they are feeding their children. "...

Seneff: “How Monsanto makes sure that nobody dares to claim that glyphosate might be toxic.”

The Monsanto Papers, Part 1 — Operation: Intoxication

In order to save glyphosate, the Monsanto corporation has undertaken an effort to destroy the United Nations' cancer agency by any means possible. Here is the part one of an investigation from Le Monde.

Corporate Relationships Among Monsanto Company, Pharmacia LLC, Pfizer Inc., Solutia Inc., and Eastman Chemical Company

Prior to Sept. 1, 1997, a corporation that was then known as Monsanto Company (Former Monsanto) operated an agricultural products business (the Ag Business), a pharmaceuticals and nutrition business (the Pharmaceuticals Business) and a chemical products business (the Chemicals Business). Former Monsanto is today known as Pharmacia LLC. Pharmacia is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer Inc., which operates the Pharmaceuticals Business. Solutia is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company, which operates the Chemicals Business. Today’s Monsanto includes the operations, assets and liabilities that were previously the Ag Business. The following table sets forth a chronology of events that resulted in the formation of Monsanto, Pharmacia and Solutia as three separate and distinct corporations, and it provides a brief background on the relationships among these corporations.

From Investopedia:..." A 'wholly owned subsidiary' is a company whose common stock is 100% owned by another company, the parent company. Whereas a company can become a wholly owned subsidiary through an acquisition by the parent company or having been spun off from the parent company "...

An important fact to learn about the State of Science, is that corporations, like Monsanto buying up all the small seed companies, are buying the journals that scientists publish their Papers in, taking away the independent scientist’s ability to publicly publish their research.

Latham: “...“direct assault on academic freedom" as Publisher installs industry stooge to edit the academic publication International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health w/o consulting the editorial board. Publisher calls it "repositioning" the journal.”

Sudden Shift at a Public Health Journal Leaves Scientists Feeling Censored

But now, a feud has erupted over the small academic publication, as its editorial board — the scientists who advise the journal’s direction and handle article submissions — has accused the journal’s new owner of suppressing a paper and promoting “corporate interests over independent science in the public interest.”

“There are many scientists who work for corporations who are honest scientists,” said David Michaels, the former head of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration under President Obama. “What we’re concerned about here is the ‘mercenary science’ … that’s published purely to influence regulation or litigation, and doesn’t contribute to public health.”

The journal was one of the relatively few places that provided an outlet for “scientists whose work is independent of the corporations that manufacture chemicals,” he said. “The silencing of that voice would be a real loss to the field.”

Seneff: “Judy Hoy has a new book out and I just ordered a copy. I am sure it will be an amazing book. I have been collaborating with her on research papers and I am blown away by her personal knowledge of the deteriorating health of wildlife in the mountains where she lives due to exposure to toxic environmental chemicals from nearby agriculture.”

Changing Faces: The Consequences of Exposure to Gene and Thyroid Disrupting Toxins Paperback – November 20, 2017

Judy, a biologist, wildlife researcher and wildlife rehabilitator along with her husband Bob, a biologist and Montana game warden (now retired), began observing new birth defects and health issues in mammals and birds in western Montana the spring of 1995. This book chronicles over 20 years of observations regarding the changes in the faces and the vital organs of vertebrate newborns now being observed throughout North America. Included is discussion of how people and other animals, plants, and the entire biodiversity of our planet are being dangerously affected by a combination of factors, one being recent excessive use of specific herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. What we can do to mitigate these devastating changes is addressed in the sincere hope that positive action will be taken before it is too late. Mass extinctions are already occurring as a result of the changes humans are causing to the face of the planet. This book is somewhat like "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson, but is not as technical and has lots of photos to illustrate the birth defects and health issues, along with stories of individual animals. In the process of rehabilitating wildlife, Judy discovered how to correct certain defects such as underdeveloped bones, particularly those facial bones which result in underbite and overbite, allowing normal growth. She also discovered how to mitigate certain other health issues such as how to heal broken bones in mammals and birds in about half the usual time. The stories of the individual animals, which prompted her discoveries, are in this book in the hope that others can also be helped.

A personal witness to the devastating demise of wild pollinators and other species as glyphosate herbicide residues increase in the environment

Roundup® Poisoned our Nature Reserve

By 2013 we knew that something was wrong. The numbers and species of invertebrates in our reserve were declining. Their behaviour was abnormal. In August, some of their food plants were uniformly affected with mildew.

In 2006, we had commissioned an overnight moth count [4] from a professional naturalist. The next morning at about 6 am when he emptied the traps, he recorded (while we photographed) 143 species of moths, attracted to the bright lights from a wide radius. Some species trapped were in numbers up to 500. We were astounded by the variety of species and asked if it was to do with the sunflowers which we had grown in the field as a winter crop for birds. No, he replied, it was because we weren’t using pesticides and we had allowed the small wildflowers to flourish. In 2013 we asked him to repeat the count. He confirmed our worse fears, the biodiversity had declined. He counted only 51 species and the maximum number of the same species was 50. By August 2014, a naturalist friend with a reserve 3 miles away had stopped doing moth counts. He said there were so few that it wasn’t worth the effort.

The British Medical Journal is unaware of the links between Cancer Research UK and the Pesticides Industry

Few can avoid the pollution of water, soil and air by genotoxic and teratogenic herbicides, insecticides and other industrial chemicals. Governments and Regulators only measure a small fraction of them. Human health depends on biodiversity. Food depends on natural pollinators. The devastating effects of these silent killers on us and our environment do not distinguish between farmers or city dwellers, the wealthy or the poor, between media moguls, editors or their reporters, Monsanto or Syngenta Executives, Prime Ministers or Presidents. Humans and the environment are being silently poisoned by thousands of untested and unmonitored chemicals.

Macron Confirms Plan to Ban Glyposate Herbicides within 3 Years

French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday said he would take all measures necessary to ensure that weed-killer glyphosate is banned in France as soon as an alternative is available and at the latest within three years.

Scandal erupts around German glyphosate vote

Pesticide Action Network Europe’s environmental toxicologist Angeliki Lysimachou commented on the 5-year renewal of glyphosate: "Although this might seem an improvement compared to the original 15-year proposal, it does not address the concerns of Europeans and provides no guarantee that the general public and the environment will be protected from the harmful effects of this chemical. This decision reveals once again the sad truth that governments are more keen to protect the highly profitable pesticide industry than the health of their people and the environment."

Glyphosate renewed for a further five years

However, some of the more progressive Member States will be taking action on their own behalf. Most notably, France will be introducing its own restrictions on glyphosate use.

PAN UK will continue to work with our colleagues across the EU to reduce the use of glyphosate and other pesticides that pose risks to human health and the environment.

WHO To Farmers: Stop Giving Your Animals So Many Antibiotics

The WHO has now issued its first formal guidelines for how these drugs should be used on farms. According to these guidelines, antibiotics cannot be used to promote faster growth or merely to prevent disease in healthy animals. The WHO called on veterinarians to avoid the use of antibiotics that are most critical in human health. The agency also wants governments to ban the use in animals of any new antibiotics that scientists may discover in the future.

Eat Your Organic Spinach (But Avoid Conventional)

The USDA recently retested conventional spinach for pesticides, having last tested it in 2008. In the last decade there has been a sharp increase in pesticide residue on the crop. USDA samples show more pesticides by weight on spinach than any other crop, including up to 16 pesticides and metabolites of pesticides found on each sample. Permethrin, linked to ADHD in children, was among the most alarming residue found—and on 75% of the samples. Spinach also appears to be particularly “good” at taking up DDT residue left in the soil, a pesticide banned in the 70s. DDT residue was found on half of the spinach samples.

Even though current organic regulations require careful stewardship of soil as a prerequisite for certification, the USDA/NOP quietly allowed CCOF to certify Driscoll’s, the largest berry producer in the United States, and over 100 other entities, for hydroponics/container growing. This was in spite of the fact that the NOSB had already clearly stated that hydroponic production does not qualify as organic. However, in a big favor to corporate interests, the NOP has never implemented the tougher NOSB recommendations.

The sugar industry funded animal research in the 1960s that looked into the effects of sugar consumption on cardiovascular health — and then buried the data when it suggested that sugar could be harmful, according to newly released historical documents.

The internal industry documents were uncovered by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and described in a new report in the journal PLOS Biology on Tuesday. The report’s authors say it builds on evidence that the sugar industry has long tried to mislead the public and protect its economic interests by suppressing worrisome research, a tactic used by the tobacco industry.

Vaccines Revealed

Episode 3 is running through 9 p.m. tonight.

This is the most important interview that everyone needs to watch. RFK, Jr. explains why there is a problem with vaccines. One of the most important things Americans need to understand is the reason why we’re not getting this information from the media. Example: “60 Minutes” news program. Primary sponsor: Pfizer. As RFK, Jr. explains in this Vaccines Revealed interview, news organizations will not allow any programming that would lead to them losing a sponsor.

AND, this isn't just about Autism. This is about food allergies, auto-immune diseases, MS, Alzheimers, Lupus, IBS, Chrones, skin issues, arthritis, tics, learning disabilities, etc. AND, gmo ingredients are used in making these vaccines.

A quote from his World Mercury Project page...

"People ask me why are you doing this...this isn't what I wanted to do. I had a choice of either putting my head down and walking away from and pretending I didn't see it or getting involved...and I have taken those risks and I have endured what came along with it but, I've endured it happily because I believe if I can spare one kid from getting this injury...these companies are stealing that from them...that is assault and battery, it's child abuse, in some cases it's even worse. I feel like I didn't have any choice but to get involved with this fight...I'm going to fight it till the end, and I am not going to stand down, I am not going to give up. I'm going to fight for you, I'm going to fight for your children and I need your support because the forces I am up against are forces that have been able to compromise every major institution in our democracy, and the people who stand up against them get crushed but, I know how to fight them because I've spent a lifetime fighting big shots and fighting bullets...and fighting the greedy, greedy bullies and that's who we're dealing with today, people who have that arrogance of power, people who believe they can get away with anything including destroying the lives of our children and I'm not going to let them do that and I'm going to fight till the last day of my life to the last bit of energy I have to make sure that we get justice for these children...produce a healthy generation of American children that doesn't have this epidemic of neurological and other injuries, and that we have good science, transparent science, a robust regulator that's independent from the industry that they're supposed to regulate and we may never have honest politicians in this country, they're always going to be compromised by money but we deserve good regulators, we deserve good science and we deserve healthy children and that's what I'm going to fight for...please give me your support..."

Episode 3

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. talks about Vaccine Court, ( discovery), Simpsonwood (1991 secret meeting of CDC scientists and Pharma reps where they decided to cover up the data that vaccines were harming), why mainstream media won’t cover the vaccine debate.

RFK, Jr.: "I've spent my life working on energy issues, environmental issues and global warming and rivers, but I've taken a hiates to do just this issue because I cannot stand by and watch these children be poisoned, an entire generation of children being poisoned now...and we're going to take them on and beat themwe're going to sue the government, pharmaceutical companies...we're figuring out different way to litigate this..."

2nd half: Scott Miller, filmmaker, vaccines in the military, Gulf War Syndrome, Anthrax, 20 minutes of the film "VAXXED."

Episode 4 - Starting 9 p.m. tonight

Dr. Brian Hooker

Hooker’s interview is unfortunately, in four parts, in four different episodes. You can find the transcript of his interview in the "More Doctors Coming Out Against Vaccines" thread, on page 18, halfway down the page. Look for the “corrected and spell checked copy,” it includes all four parts of the interview.)

He's a PhD in biochemical engineering, has been conducting biotechnology research for over 25 years, currently an Associate Professor of Biology at Simpson University, and also science advisor for the Focus For Health Foundation.

...and then the race was on. The CDC was trying to cover up this relationship. I was actively at that point calling CDC researchers, giving my input on their studies, studies that they were doing in the United States, studies that they were planning to do in Denmark, Italy, the UK. The CDC was so desperate at that time to find any population of children that would somehow indemnify thimersol, that they were going to Greenland, they were looking at cohorts of individuals with autism in Greenland somehow to use that particular population to say there's no relationship between the thimersol that you get in the infant schedule in the United States and autism. They were completely desperate and so I knew at that particular point in time I had to get involved."

Gates Foundation Hired PR Firm to Manipulate UN Over Gene Drives by Jonathan Latham, PhD

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation this year paid a PR firm called Emerging Ag $1.6 million to recruit a covert coalition of academics to manipulate a UN decision-making process over gene drives, according to emails obtained through Freedom of Information requests.

According to the emails, which were obtained from the University of North Carolina by Edward Hammond of Prickly Research, the Gates funding for Emerging Ag was obtained to co-ordinate a “fight back against gene drive moratorium proponents.”

Despite the public perception that conservation and public health are what motivates gene drive research, it is known that, besides the contribution of the Gates Foundation, most gene drive funding comes from the DARPA, the technology foresight arm of the US Dept of Defense.

“Gene drives are a powerful and dangerous new technology and potential biological weapons that could have disastrous impacts on peace, food security and the environment, especially if misused,” said Jim Thomas of ETC Group. “The fact that gene drive development is now being primarily funded and structured by the US military raises alarming questions about this entire field.”

California officially lists chlorpyrifos as brain-harming pesticide - on fruit, nut and vegetable crops

Dr. Miriam Rotkin-Ellman, MPH, Natural Resources Defense Council senior scientist, said, “With today’s decision, California affirms the extensive scientific evidence that chlorpyrifos is harmful, particularly for pregnant women and children. California now has a mandate to ensure that all actions to evaluate and address risk from this pesticide must protect children.”

Dr. Emily Marquez, PhD, Pesticide Action Network’s staff scientist who attended today’s hearing, said, “The committee made the right decision in light of the scientific evidence. Chlorpyrifos is neurotoxic and the Prop 65 listing affirms what scientists, doctors and communities have been saying for years – children’s developing brains are incredibly vulnerable to low amounts of the chemical during critical windows of development. State regulators should follow today’s decision by finally taking this chemical off the market.”

Are you still feeding your pets GMOs?

Many pet owners have connected the increased usage of GMOs with what appears to be an increase of tumors and health issues in dogs and cats.

— By Dr. Michael W. Fox*

Dogs and cats, like the proverbial canaries down the mine shafts, have become our sentinels. They alert us to health hazards in the home-environments we share and in the products and by-products of the same agribusiness food industry that feeds most of us and them. In the mid 1990s I began to suspect diet may play a role in a “cluster” of health problems not seen nearly as often as when dogs and cats were being fed conventional corn and soy. Since that time I have formed the professional opinion that there is sufficient proof from evidence based medicine that dietary ingredients derived from GM crops are not safe for companion animals, and by extension, for human consumers either.

Interview with Dr. Michelle Perro, M.D. by Jeffrey M. Smith

Pediatrician Michelle Perro, M.D.’s book, “What’s Making Our Children Sick?”

With chronic disorders among American children reaching epidemic levels, hundreds of thousands of parents are desperately seeking solutions to their children’s declining health, often with little medical guidance from the experts. What’s Making Our Children Sick? convincingly explains how agrochemical industrial production and genetic modification of foods is a culprit in this epidemic. Is it the only culprit? No. Most chronic health disorders have multiple causes and require careful disentanglement and complex treatments. But what if toxicants in our foods are a major culprit, one that, if corrected, could lead to tangible results and increased health? Using patient accounts of their clinical experiences and new medical insights about pathogenesis of chronic pediatric disorders―taking us into gut dysfunction and the microbiome, as well as the politics of food science―this book connects the dots to explain our kids’ ailing health.

New Research Shows Herbicide Ingredients Cause Antibiotic Resistance in Bacteria

New University of Canterbury research has confirmed that the active ingredients of the commonly used herbicides, RoundUp, Kamba and 2,4-D (glyphosate, dicamba and 2,4-D, respectively), each alone cause antibiotic resistance at concentrations well below label application rates, it was revealed Friday.

this University of Canterbury research is the first in the world to demonstrate that herbicides may be undermining the use of a fundamental medicine-antibiotics.”

The paper, “Herbicide ingredients change Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium and Escherichia coli antibiotic responses”, was published online in the peer-reviewed journal Microbiology on Friday.

This Florida mayor takes his city organic with greener weedkiller and fertilizer

It isn’t the most drastic change made by the small suburb of well-manicured lawns and leafy streets in its quest to become the greenest city on the planet. Last year the city became the first in the state to require solar panels on new homes and has long banned mosquito-spraying for marsh mosquitoes. But according to its mayor, the change was by far the simplest, and one that could be easily replicated by governments and residents across the state.

“Herbicides are sort of the unrecognized peril,” Mayor Phil Stoddard said. “I was horrified they were using all kinds of stuff that I would not want my child exposed to.”

Vaccines Revealed Replay Weekend (Genetically modified ingredients are in vaccines.)

You’ll have access to every one of the 9 episodes so you can catch the episodes that you’ve missed and been wanting to watch.

Why is the topic of vaccines so difficult? It’s been made difficult by the inconsistent, disagreeing, and downright lying so-called “experts” promoting their own agenda.

We, as citizens and parents must know the whole story – the truth. We will not stop until the entire world is educated and empowered with the knowledge revealing the truth about vaccines.

Will you join us in educating the public about their right to medical freedom? Mandatory vaccinations are about to open up a new land-grab for government control. Other medical issues seem to pale in comparison to forcibly medicating millions against their will. Voluntary and informed consent are essential in our individual rights, and without it, we do not possess true freedom.

Autism and Autoimmune diseases have become epidemic. We must band together and turn the tide and improve testing, communication and choice.

“People have asked me, “why are you doing this?“ This isn’t what I wanted to do. But I had a choice. I could put my head down and walk away from it – pretending I didn’t see it. Or, I could get involved and take the risk of doing that. And I have taken those risks and I have endured what came along with it, but I have endured it happily.
Because I believe that if I can spare one kid from getting this injury – from that pain…. God gave these children lives, and these companies are stealing that from them. That is a crime. That is assault and battery. It’s child abuse. In some cases it’s even worse. I feel like I didn’t have any choice about getting involved with this fight. And once I got involved with it, – I’m going to fight it until the end. And I’m not going to stand down. And I’m not going to give up. And I’m going to fight for you – and I’m going to fight for your children.”

Monsanto offers cash to U.S. farmers who use controversial chemical

Monsanto’s cash-back offer comes as federal and state regulators are requiring training for farmers who plan to spray dicamba in 2018 and limiting when it can be used. Weed specialists say the restrictions make the chemical more costly and inconvenient to apply, but Monsanto’s incentive could help convince farmers to use it anyway.

Monsanto's Roundup Causes Antibiotic Resistance—a Fact That's Not Considered by Regulators

Antimicrobial resistance could cause up to 10 million deaths every year.

Dr. Heinemann notes, “These products are sold in the local hardware store and may be used without training, and there are no controls that prevent children and pets from being exposed in home gardens or parks. Despite their ubiquitous use… herbicides may be undermining the use of a fundamental medicine-antibiotics.”

Samsel - New interview...

Seneff: “Brand new Kristen Harper interview with Anthony Samsel. Get a sneak preview on his most recent research on glyphosate!”

(We don’t get to hear from Anthony Samsel much because he is behind the scenes doing a lot of research. Please listen to this interview. You’ll learn his credentials, why he started studying glyphosate, what he found, glyphosate in vaccines and his newest research on collagen and bile acids, etc. I can’t wait for the new Paper to come out with the new research on bile acids. There are so many young people getting their gallbladders removed. I knew there was a connection to glyphosate and the proof is coming. Transcript coming soon but, it so much better hearing it right from the source.)

“Company Town” trailer

Elizabeth Warren Just Let Loose on Trump and Monsanto - She is no fan of the ag giant’s pending mega-merger.

Enter Trump’s nemesis, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D.-Mass.). In a recent speech before the Open Markets Institute, Warren denounced rising levels of corporate consolidation—massive companies merging into vast market-dominating entities that invest a share of their profits in lobbying and financing campaigns, shaping the political system to their own ends.

At one point—snippet below—Warren turned her attention to one of the most consolidated sectors of the US economy: agribusiness. And she called on the Trump administration to nix Bayer-Monsanto. “If the Bayer-Monsanto merger is approved, one gigantic company would supply one-quarter of the entire world’s seeds and pesticides,” she noted. (Her math matches up pretty closely with my assessment).

Seneff: “I hope the idea of "glyphosate tested" catches on! It would be wonderful if we could routinely buy "glyphosate tested" products that were found to be glyphosate free in the tests.”

Why do we test for Glyphosate?

Glyphosate is in 80% of our food supply in the U.S., and may well be the most toxic chemical ever approved for commercial use, according to some scientists. Scientists now link glyphosate to kidney disease, antibiotic resistant bacteria, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, depression, ADHD, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, cachexia, infertility, and developmental malformations. It reportedly destroys the microbiome of humans and plants, which is seen by some as the root cause of many modern diseases.

So if there are no GMO varieties of wheat in the market, how is glyphosate getting into the wheat and other grains?

Dr. Don Huber, Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology at Purdue University, explains why:

“There are two reasons that a farmer wants to [use glyphosate on non-GMO crops]. It is for late season weed control in situations where he has patches of green weeds in the field that came up late. [This is commonly done with wheat and barley.] It is a little slower to harvest when weeds are present.

The other reason involves late season snow. In the northern region such as in the Dakotas, in certain parts of Montana, and in the Prairies of Canada, there is a very short growing season. If it snows on the crop at harvest then you may lose the crop, because you can’t get back into the field to do the harvest.

In these regions, 70% of the wheat and barley are desiccated with glyphosate before harvest. [This kills the plant so that it will wilt and dry]. Farmers don’t want to take a risk of losing their entire wheat and barley crop, so they will take a cut in yield and quality by using glyphosate a few weeks before harvest, and then harvest the crop early.

Farmers don’t realize how much they are contaminating that food or feed product when they do this. They will accept the cut [in quality and quantity of the crop], because that can buy them a week advantage in harvest. It’s really more done for ease and planning. However, it is just the dumbest thing you could ever do from a health and safety standpoint.

In fact, beer brewers are having a problem with glyphosate. A few years ago, when one of my colleagues wanted to get more Abraxis test strips for testing materials for glyphosate residue, he was told that they had a 3 month backlog. He asked, what was causing this? He was told that every load of malt barley coming out of North Dakota has to be tested, because the glyphosate levels were so high that it kills the yeast in the brew mix.” (Source.)

Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff published as study titled: Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases II: Celiac sprue and gluten intolerance in Interdiscip Toxicol. 2013; Vol. 6 (4): 159–184. They produced the following chart showing a correlation between glyphosate use on wheat and Celiac disease:

What's Making Our Children Sick

Pediatricians, Dr. Michelle Perro and Dr. Vincanne Adams

We are the stewards of our children. Protecting them and making decisions that don't lead to early disease onset is the minimum we can do. But what if you're not getting good information from your trusted sources? Maybe it’s time to change your trusted sources.

Glyphosate/GMO food, antibiotics, food sensitivities, this is a public health problem.

Dr. Perro and Adams’ website, GMO Science

FOR THE BEGINNER - Starting with the basics.

Zen Honeycutt: “The organic industry is the only part of the food industry that WANTS regulations. That has to say something to consumers. If you are eating food from people who aren't willing to be held accountable, that are not willing to include integrity in their practices, do you really want to eat it? What do we do if we can't trust the food to be organic though? Get To Know Your Farmer. Or raise livestock yourself. Or don't eat it. That's what it comes down to. Whatever you chose, all alternatives are infinitely rewarding. New breakthroughs in community, self-reliance, and health will come of them if you chose to #OptOUT of Big Ag.”

USDA to Withdraw Organic Livestock Rules

The Department of Agriculture plans to withdraw another Obama administration regulation impacting the livestock industry, this time choosing to pull language setting animal welfare standards in organic agriculture.

The rules – the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices – were issued in January, just days before President Donald Trump took office. But a regulatory freeze slowed their implementation, and the department just last month further delayed the effective date while challenging the legal footing for the regulations.

The Organic Trade Association has already filed suit to force implantation of the rules, and the group is now “dismayed” at USDA’s decision to withdraw. The group says withdrawal is “a groundless step” that goes against “nearly universal support” from organic producers and consumers...

Seneff: “New book out on Amazon by John Kamin. I received an early copy and I recommend this book highly to those who are worried about our food supply. Lots of useful facts about the toxins in modern food and the lack of nutritional value.”

...with liberty and sickness for all.: The toxins in our food, our environment, and our minds…

The state of our health is on a rapid decline. We are being lied to on a daily basis about the causes of disease, the toxins in our foods, and the efficacy of the medical treatments which we are being offered, for the sake of ever-increasing profits. This book gives an in-depth look at toxic food additives and GMOs, and their contribution to cancer and other diseases and disorders, as well as science-backed solutions for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, which are being kept from the public at large.

You can find Hayes on YouTube telling the story of how Syngenta, after hiring him to research Atrazine, harassed him and his family for ten years to try and stop him from publishing the results of his research. Another example of how chemical companies will do anything to stop this information from getting out to the public.

Pesticide Turns Male Frogs into Females - 2010

Atrazine is banned in Europe.

And since atrazine interferes with the production of the sex hormone estrogen, present in people and frogs, the findings could have implications for humans as well. "If you have problems in amphibians, you can anticipate problems in other animals," Hayes said.

What you need to know about Chlorpyrifos - The toxic pesticide now harming our children and environment

For half a century, U.S. staple foods such as corn, wheat, apples and citrus have been sprayed with chlorpyrifos, a dangerous pesticide that can damage the developing brains of children, causing reduced IQ, loss of working memory, and attention deficit disorders.

Earthjustice, among other groups, has for years pushed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ban chlorpyrifos, as it is known to harm health, water and wildlife. The EPA was expected to make a decision by March 31, under a court order deadline. On March 29, the EPA refused to ban the pesticide…
