Does that go for SMI supporters also ? Also what gain did she get from LL2. Why would not closing the dump be in her opinion, "in the best interests of the town". Like keeping it open is in some minds in the best interests of the town ?

In the case of Tom R. I would say yes. First of all before anyone runs for a political office they should at least have some idea of what is going on. A lot of homework needs to be done before you decide to run and in the case of Seneca Falls you need to search out the facts and figure out what is just propaganda. So much misinformation has been spread around about SMI that some real fact finding is essential.

First of all Lazaro went into office opposing the landfill. He was fooled by the rumors and false information that runs rampant in Seneca County. That's why Lutz was appointed in the first place. He soon learned the truth and how much Seneca Falls needed the money to rebuild parts of the town that had been neglected for way too long. He deserves credit for changing his position and taking the heat for it. Waterloo Container can't expand as long as SMI owns the land behind their present location. Also if they sell their property would be worth more without the landfill. Lutz was only thinking of herself. Mary had an agenda too, she just believed all the lies. Most people hear something and take it as being true but as a public official you have to verify everything. There are professionals who could have given her the facts but I think she was more concerned about what her friends thought than finding out the truth. They both should have abstained.

Seneca Meadows and the Seneca Falls town board caused the tax raises. NO ONE else. Spade to spade.
Did you miss me ? grin Who wrote the local law that's at issue at the present time, Lutz and her Seneca Falls Environmental Action Committee that's who ! NO LAW, NO LAWSUIT, NO TAX INCREASE in case you can't figure it out.

No landfill in the first place no tax increase. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Too bad, so sad.

Funny how Lazzaro "saw the light" immediately after drinks and dinner with Kyle Black, Mark Benjamin and their lawyer at Parker's. By your own reason he should have abstained from voting on LL2. Also, Ruzicka had his entire campaign funded by Waste Connections/Solutions. If that is not enough to justify abstaining from voting, what is?

Just wait till there's really no landfill and you have to ship your trash to Rochester and pay to get rid of it. Why is it that nobody has ever figured out how much that will cost ?

If being wined and dined and/or receiving political campaign contributions required a politician to abstain every single elected official in both parties for the last 200+ would have been prohibited from acting in office. There is simply no authority for arguing that there is a conflict of interest from that.

Norm thought so when he bought the Container property. He got a prime location for what he thought was a real good deal and he never seemed to have a problem.

Norm wanted to sell bottles. Not the business location.

Here is an idea; how about, wait for it...YOU CREATE LESS TRASH. You know, instead of being a complete wasteful loser in the first place and creating a dozen reeking bags of a filth a week, you just don't make it. No trash, nothing to pay. And yes, it is possible. I create one basketball-sized bag of actual garbage per month. Try it sometime.

And Ruzicka having the entirety of his campaign funded by SMI? I suppose that's not a conflict, either?

Except Norm isn't the one making the decisions on the property now, Bill and Annette are.

It's well known that they tried to get SMI to buy them out.

I am in Romulus, and pay to get rid of my trash with a private contractor. It is about $90/quarter. Not a big threat to most folk. The Trash companies compete for our business.

Actually, being wined and dined is illegal under the public officers law. (Which is why most politicians need a campaign war chest - so donors can pay for them to be wined and dined)

You are prohibited from soliciting a gift. You are also prohibited from accepting a gift having a value of $75 or more under circumstances where it can be reasonably inferred or expected that the gift was intended to influence you in the performance of your official duties or was intended as a reward for any official action.

In other words, as long as Lazarro's dinner didn't exceed $75.00 in value, it was legal.
