Very interesting.https://www.quora.com/On-a-liberal-to-co...n-Times-and-NYTIt’s important to know news bias but it’s also important to know if news media are honest and factual.
Some news sources are highly biased, but they may still be quite factual, they just cover stories which support their point of view and/or they use “loaded” language in reporting. Mother Jones on the left, and Toronto Sun on the right, for example, are known to report accurately, but are very biased. Others, do just flat out lie or leave out important facts, which is why I think you need to know both the bias and truthfulness of your preferred news media.
One good source for determining whether a media source is factual or not (fake news) as well as the political bias it espouses is Media Bias/Fact Checking. They list over 1100 so-called news sources. In terms of bias, they use 5 categories: Left Bias, Left-Center Bias, Least Biased, Right-Center Bias, and Right Bias.
Of the news sources you listed, Media Bias/Fact Checking rates most of them “Factual Reporting: High” and say are “usually well sourced and factual”. The exceptions are MSNBC and Fox News. They are listed as:
Fox News Factual Reporting: MIXED
Notes: Fox News Channel has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party and has been deemed the least accurate cable news source according to Politifact.
MSNBC Factual Reporting: MIXED
Notes: Has left wing bias in reporting and wording. MSNBC has also made some false claims according to Politifact.
Here’s a list from Media Bias/Fact Checking that includes the news sources you mention. I’ve highlighted and italicized the media you asked about:
