What difference does it make as long as it helps people in need! Everything doesn't need political spin!

Wealthy, not middle class, would be big winners in GOP tax plan, study says

About 30 percent of those earning between $50,000 and $150,000 would pay more under the Republican plan, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

What? OMG. Are you kidding?

On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that President Trump would donate $1 million of his “personal money” to Hurricane Harvey victims. But on Friday, she wasn’t so sure.

Asked by a reporter if she knew whether Trump’s donation would be “coming from his own money or from the Trump Foundation,” Sanders dodged.

He dodged the draft, insulted the Gold Star parents of an American solider and mocked P.O.W. John McCain. And he has the gall to tell NFL players to stand for the anthem? Give me a break.

"There are a lot of killers, we've got a lot of killers. What, you think (America) is so innocent?"

These words were not spoken by a Russian agent trying to tar America's standing in the world. They weren't uttered by a recent Antifa recruit on campus in Berkeley. They were famously said by the president of the United States during a February interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly that aired — as if the gods of irony needed a hearty chuckle — during the 2017 Super Bowl.

Americans clearly back Trump in his belief that players should stand during the National Anthem. But it is also evident that Trump has hardly spent any time reflecting over what patriotism means. Given his tireless work to lower America's moral standing around the world, perhaps it should be Trump that kneels in front of the flag — in order to ask its forgiveness.

Yeah, helping hurricane victims is always a waste of money, but giving ginormous tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires ISN'T. crazy

NY has no business in Puerto Rico! Your buddy Andy is just trying to score political points! He should be trying to cut taxes instead of giving taxpayer money away to collect brownie points!

Somebody has to help out these people on the verge of dying while Trump is tweeting from his super expensive golf course. And it is easy to score political points against a president so out of touch with the real world.

Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday that a time could come when he no longer supports the Republican Party.

"If the party can't be fixed, Jake, then I'm not going to be able to support the party. Period. That's the end of it." Kasich said in an interview with anchor Jake Tapper.

Puerto Ricans Hope President Trump Gets an Eyeful of Devastation During Visit

by Daniella Silva and Suzanne Gamboa

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Puerto Ricans remained in survival mode on the eve of President Donald Trump's visit — and many residents were downright exasperated.

"He's pretty late," Bethsaida Colón said Monday as she waited in a wheelchair in line at the airport, bound for New York. "His general came here eight days late."

ummmmm. First of all that "country" is part of the country you live in. Second there is nothing left to bulldoze. The two hurricanes destroyed almost everything.

Ha. Ha Trump

https://www.thedailybeast.com/sec-mattis-breaks-with-trump-we-must-stay-in-iran-deal

Secretary of Defense James Mattis on Tuesday broke with his boss, President Trump, to tell the Senate Armed Services Committee that he believes the U.S. should remain in the Iran deal.

“Do you believe it is in our national security interest [to remain in the deal]?” Sen. Angus King (I-ME) asked the secretary, who then replied: “Yes, senator, I do.”

Trump has repeatedly railed against the Obama-negotiated deal, calling it a “bad deal” and claiming it is not in the United States’ national-security interests. Under current law, the White House must certify to Congress every 90 days that Iran is complying with the deal. The next certification date is October 15.

DOJ releases slew of memos lobbying against presidential appointments for family

By Laura Jarrett and David Shortell, CNN

The Justice Department has released a trove of decades-old internal legal memos concluding the President should be legally barred from appointing a relative to a position in the White House, shedding new light on just how sharp a departure the department's more recent interpretation of federal law under the Trump administration compares to past practice.

When the Justice Department concluded on Inauguration Day 2017 Jared Kushner could serve in his father-in-law's administration without violating anti-nepotism laws, legal experts scratched their heads at the ruling.

Monday's newly released memos -- first reported by Politico, which filed a Freedom of Information Act request -- illustrate why the reversal was so stark.

Dating back to the Nixon administration, the Justice Department provided an unbroken chain of advice: federal law forbids the President from appointing a relative "to a civilian position in the agency ... over which (the official) exercises jurisdiction or control," including a temporary or permanent appointment to the White House staff.

"You have asked for our opinion on the question whether the President could appoint Mrs. (Rosalynn) Carter to be Chairman of a Commission on Mental Health proposed to be established in a forthcoming Executive Order," wrote acting Assistant Attorney General John Harmon in a February 1977 memo to a lawyer in the Carter administration. "It is our opinion that he may not."

Harmon added that the statutory prohibition should apply "whether or not the appointee will receive compensation."
A similar finding came from Edwin Kneedler in 1977, who concluded that President Jimmy Carter could not appoint his son to an unpaid position on the White House staff.
"As pointed out in our memorandum . . . regarding Mrs. Carter," Kneedler explained, "it makes no difference that he would serve without compensation."

Yet deputy assistant attorney general Daniel Koffsky, a longtime career attorney at the Office of Legal Counsel at the Justice Department, reversed course in January, finding the anti-nepotism law covers only appointments in an "executive" agency and that the White House Office is not such an agency under the law.

"In choosing his personal staff, the President enjoys an unusual degree of freedom, which Congress found suitable to the demands of his office," wrote Koffsky, relying on a separate law giving the President broad authority to hire his staff.
Despite the criticism levied by ethics experts, Kushner's lawyer said back in January that the new opinion was justified.
"We believed that we had the better argument on this,"

Kushner's lawyer Jamie Gorelick said in a statement at the time. "The Office of Legal Counsel of the Justice Department -- in an opinion by a highly regarded career Deputy Assistant Attorney General -- adopted a position consistent with our own."

Non sequitur! And it's not up to YOU. Puerto Rico pays their taxes, and as such, are legally entitled to precisely the same help as say, Texas, Louisiana or ANY other 'state' impacted by hurricane, flood, tsunami, nuclear meltdown, apocolyptic fire & brimstone or other disaster. Take your pick.
