Alligator on the loose in tiny Upstate NY village, police warn residents
Whitney Point Mayor Ryan Reynolds shared a photo of the escaped alligator on Facebook on Sunday morning, writing that the Department of Environmental Conservation believes reports of an alligator in the area to be true.
Rumors of the alligator began circulating in the town of about 900 people on Saturday night.
The alligator was spotted along the Tioughnioga River between Whitney Point and Lisle, according to WICZ-TV.
Any residents who spot the animal are urged not to approach it, and instead to contact the DEC's Cortland office at 607-753-3095.
