If that high-profile man was the CEO of a major company, he would, at minimum, be forced to apologize, and, at most, be fired. If that high-profile man was an actor, he'd likely be blackballed by Hollywood for future roles.

Then why, when that person is the President of the United States, should we treat that sort of behavior any differently?
Donald Trump, from almost the moment he became a candidate for President two years ago, has set about making the outrageous ordinary. Attack John McCain for being captured and held for six years as a prisoner of war? Check! Reference the size of his genitals in a debate? Check! Make lewd comments -- on tape -- about how a prominent man can expect to be treated by women? Check!

There's a natural human tendency when faced with a series of behaviors considered outrageous or unacceptable to begin to slough them off. To normalize them. That's just Trump being Trump! He says stuff!

But, this is the President of the United States we are talking about. Someone who, whether he likes it or not, is a role model. Someone who has a profound influence on how not only we adults treat each other but how our children view the acceptable bounds of how to act toward one another.
It is hard to imagine the harm that is happening to the children of America who are watching this play out.

************************************************************

Think we’re in for a disastrous four years if Donald Trump is elected president?

You’re being optimistic. Given what some of our children are learning from him, it may take an entire generation to recover from the hateful rhetoric he has aimed at immigrants, Muslims and Blacks Lives Matter protesters.

Trump’s vitriol is making it off the campaign trail and into the lingua franca of children at an alarming rate. Just watch coverage from Trump rallies to hear the next phrases kids will be slinging at school.

“Build the wall!” That was the chant at a high school basketball game in Indiana last week, directed by kids from a majority-white school who held up Trump signs and yelled at the opposing players and fans, who were from a predominantly Latino school.

Get ’em out!” is what Trump screams at rallies when he sees Black Lives Matter and other protesters, even silent ones. This is not far off from what some third-graders allegedly said to two brown-skinned classmates in their Northern Virginia classroom.

You think kids aren’t going to play this out in the schoolyard?

Even if they’re not taking their phrases directly from Trump’s playbook, his orchestrated free-for-all has unleashed a growing atmosphere of hate.

I don’t know whether Trump was the inspiration for the kids on an all-white Annapolis-area hockey team who singled out the black players on my son’s team, calling them the N-word and harassing them throughout the game. But they heard those words somewhere. They learned that cruelty somewhere. And I don’t think it’s a stretch to blame their behavior on the nation’s growing tolerance of open displays of bigotry.

And I don’t know that the kids at the University of Southern California who threw eggs and hurled racial epithets at a student from Hong Kong over the weekend were acting directly on Trump’s orders. But there’s an anything-goes recklessness in the air that is certainly emboldening them.
Two very good phrases! BUILD THAT WALL & GET EM OUT!

GOPer Who Voted To Impeach Bill Clinton: Donald Trump Situation Is 'Much More Serious'

A former GOP congressman who voted to impeach President Bill Clinton in 1998 has hit out at the current commander in chief.

On Monday, former Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) told CNN International host Christiane Amanpour that President Donald Trump’s situation is “much more serious” than the scandal that ended up engulfing Clinton’s administration.

Inglis made his comments after Amanpour played out an interview from 1998 in which he explained just why Clinton should be impeached.

“There are issues around the world that require American leadership,” Inglis said in the archive clip. “The leader of the free world needs moral authority. And we’ve got a president who is sorely lacking in that regard.”

Amanpour asked Inglis how me measured Clinton’s “lack of moral authority” in the run up to his impeachment with what Trump currently “has or doesn’t have.”

“Well, I guess that young guy you were just playing there apparently hadn’t seen something called the Donald Trump show,” said Inglis of his younger self, before adding that Trump’s behavior “is much more serious than anything we ever accused Bill Clinton of.”

Inglis noted how Clinton’s impeachment involved “perjury with the underlying matter being a sexual affair.” Trump’s situation, however, was “something quite different.”

“Particularly when it gets into the Russia investigation and the firing of (former FBI Director) James Comey,” he added. “These are very serious matters.”

You certainly can not read much of anything.

On Friday’s edition of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) stated that in the investigation of collusion between the Trump camp and Russia, “there’s clearly a lot of smoke right now, which means there’s definitely some fire there.”

Gallego said, “Wolf, there’s something going on here. I don’t want to jump to too many conclusions, but there’s clearly a lot of smoke right now, which means there’s definitely some fire there. If you look at it, lawyers for the Trump administration are also lawyering up. So, when lawyers are lawyering up, that means something is not right, something’s amiss. And I think we, as members of Congress, and the public, should be quite aware of this, and, you know, be on guard that there aren’t any attempts to fire the special counsel

What’s Trump’s Secret Plan To Destroy ISIS? It’s Literally Obama's Exact Strategy

Donald Trump offered an alternative along the campaign trail to former President Barack Obama’s strategy on defeating the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), promising a "secret plan" that would ensure “total victory.”

Turns out, his strategy for wiping out the extremist terror group remains exactly the same as Obama’s, albeit with a few slight revisions to the implementation and bureaucracy involved.

Not yet. The case is building. Watergate took several years to play out. This has only been a few months.

Polish Crowd Chants ‘Donald Trump!’'USA! USA!'
'It’s such a great honor'
Jul 6, 2017

The Polish crowd attending President Trump's speech in Warsaw repeatedly interrupted his remarks with chants of "Donald Trump!" and "USA! USA!"

At a wreath-laying ceremony in Krasinski Square, the excited crowd broke out into an American-style, "USA! USA! USA!" chant.

Later, during Trump's prepared remarks, the crowd repeatedly interrupted the speech with a "Donald Trump! Donald Trump!" chant.

"The story of Poland is the story of a people who have never lost hope, who have never been broken and who have never ever forgotten who they are," Trump said in Warsaw, before the crowd began chanting his name.

"Thank you so much, thank you," he replied. "Thank you so much. A great honor."

DONALD TRUMP suffered an embarrassing moment as he attempted to shake the hand of the Polish president’s wife, who duly snubbed the US President.

When President Trump arrives in Poland, in Warsaw’s Krasinski Square, to speak on Thursday, he’ll be greeted by an enthusiastic audience of supporters — the Polish government has made sure of it.

According to news reports out of the country, Poland’s conservative ruling party is busing supporters to the capital to boost Trump’s ego. This is not just a courtesy to the U.S. president, who’s been accused of traveling with his own gaggle of human applause machines, it’s the fulfillment of a promise made to the White House, the AP reports.

Newsweek says all members of the country’s ruling party have been told to bring 50 supporters to Warsaw for the event, described by one lawmaker as a “great patriotic picnic.” As the magazine notes, for old-timers in Poland, this will be a familiar scene:

The tactic is a mirror of that adopted when Poland was a member of the Soviet bloc, and the Communist Party would bus agreeable crowds to Warsaw to greet visiting dignitaries from Moscow.

Among those in the adoring crowd that greets Trump will be the country’s president, Andrzej Duda. Elected in the summer of 2015, Duda is a member of the right-wing Law and Justice Party, and, like Trump, he’s an anti-immigration nationalist with an authoritarian streak.

Thousands of anti-capitalist protesters massed in a harborside square and engaged in small-scale skirmishes with police ahead of massive demonstrations planned as an angry counterpoint to a summit of the world’s top industrialized powers. This year the protests have gained added momentum as a stand against President Trump and his brand of “America First” populism.
