When will liberals learn that it's not OK to launch personal attacks just because you are not able to debate policy?

For what it's worth, I don't condone POTUS tweets and I've never seen one episode of Morning Joe but looking at the replay of all of the insults that Mika & Joe have thrown at Trump and his family over the last six months I'm amazed that he didn't say something sooner! He's not a politician; he hasn't had the formal politician grooming and training his entire life like most others have. He's passionate and quick to punch back when punched first. But that's what makes him different and to a great extent, the reason he is in the office. Most of middle America who voted him in are sick of the "say what you think the people want to hear to the camera and say a totally different thing out the side of your mouth to your cronies" that have occupied DC for so many decades from both parties.

Again, not defending or condoning, but by the same token neither am I surprised or offended.

Jared Kushner Told Joe Scarborough: Talk to President Trump About ‘Enquirer’ Dirt

The president’s son-in-law advised the ‘Morning Joe’ host to speak to the president directly about an upcoming tabloid ‘hit piece.’

On Friday, MSNBC hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough made the explosive claim that three of President Donald Trump’s most senior White House aides “warned” the couple that the tabloid The National Enquirer would publish dirt on them unless they “begged” the president to intervene.

The Morning Joe co-hosts declined to name the multiple White House officials involved in this bizarre, ongoing feud. But one of those “top White House staff members” was senior advisor and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, two White House officials confirmed to The Daily Beast.

Do you recall how many years Trump insisted Obama was not born in the US? Obama was gracious and never hit back like this.

As President Donald Trump ramped up his attacks against so-called “fake news” this week, one of his most detested news outlets, the Washington Post, reported that hanging prominently at several of the president’s golf clubs is an actual piece of fake news: a hoax Time cover featuring Trump looking quite imperious. “The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” one cover quote reads.

A spokeswoman for Time confirmed the cover never appeared, and the magazine has since requested that the Trump Organization remove the fake cover from Trump’s resorts. The bizarre revelation immediately prompted scorn, both on social media and throughout the late-night television circuit.

“That is the literal definition of fake news,” Seth Meyers said Wednesday. “This would be the saddest thing I’ve ever heard if it wasn’t the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.”

CNN conservative pundit Ana Navarro did not mince words Thursday when Wolf Blitzer asked for her thoughts on President Trump’s tweets attacking MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s appearance.

“When I first saw the tweet this morning I was frankly disgusted. I thought to myself, ‘This dude has got such a fixation with women and blood. What is wrong with him?'” Navarro said. “And then you remember this dude, this disgusting dude, is the president of the United States. And you realize just how much he is diminishing the presidency of the United States.

“You realize what he is doing is not just acting for Donald Trump, he’s acting for all of us,” the frequent Trump critic continued. “He’s acting [as] our president. And he is embarrassing. He is shameful. He is disgusting.”

Brutal: Democratic 2018 Hopes Get Another Punch To The Gut From Left-Leaning Think Tank

Brutal: Democratic 2018 Hopes Get Another Punch To The Gut From Left-Leaning Think Tank

The Democrats are lusting for the House takeover. In some weird way, they see their 0-4 record in special elections as an indicator that they’ll retake the lower chamber. Democrats say they’re over performing in these elections. Democrats say this is a good sign. Everyone else says they’re still losers, even CNN.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) from the People’s Republic of Illinois said that she feels confident that Democrats will pick up 25 seats. Well, from the concrete fortress of urban, progressive America, that may be a possibility—just as this cohort thought that Hillary Clinton would win in a landslide. Everyone else, even The New York Times, is not so sure.

MSNBC’s Morning Joe tossed a wet blanket on the notion of a Democratic wave, noting the difficulties with candidate recruitment—no solid standout candidates—and the lack of a farm system to find those candidates. Nate Cohn at The New York Times noted that Democratic turnout for the GA-06 special election was the highest in a decade, but added that a) the Democratic path to the majority runs through red districts and Jon Ossoff’s defeat in Georgia showed the level of difficulty on that front; and b) even with the high Democratic turnout, the electorate could mirror that of 2016 which was favorable to Trump. In all, even with President Trump’s less than stellar approval rating, which usually is a good indicator for how midterm elections turn out for whichever party is occupying the White House, the GOP could retain the majority.

We’re not fighting an unpopular war that was growing increasingly out of control and corruption scandals haven’t hit the GOP leadership. Also, the Democrats were much more exposed heading into 2010 than Republicans. Also, for Democrats to win districts that trend Republican, having Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as the face of the party is a recipe for disaster. The House Minority Leader proved to be a contributing factor to Ossoff’s defeat to Republican Karen Handel in the most expensive House race in history. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who challenged Pelosi for the leadership position, conceded that she is more toxic than Trump in some parts of the country, and that the Democratic Party brand is just terrible right now. All of this isn’t necessarily the making for headwinds into these red districts. Now, Third Way, a left of center think tank, released a study showing that even if the Democrats sweep the suburbs, they’ll still fall short (via WaPo) [emphasis mine]:

The opposition party needs to win 24 seats to take control of the House in 2018. Understandably, operatives and handicappers have focused on the 23 districts that Republicans hold, which voted for Hillary Clinton last year. But some of the incumbents are very popular, with brands that are distinct from Trump’s, and they are unlikely to lose no matter how bad the headwinds become.
In other words, it’s inconceivable that Democrats run the table in those 23 districts. Even if they did, they’d still be one short. And Democrats must defend 12 seats in districts that Trump carried in 2016.
Third Way did a deep dive to try to understand what the 2018 playing field will look like. The center-left think tank focused on 65 “Majority Makers,” the battlegrounds where a majority would most likely be won.
[…]
They divided the swing districts into four categories: Thriving Suburban Communities, Left Behind Areas, Diverse/Fast-Growing Regions, and Non-Conformist Districts.
[…]
The numbers underscore how different even the 23 GOP-held Clinton districts are demographically. Many are suburban and overwhelmingly white. Others are rural and heavily Latino. Within the broad categories, there are stark differences on income, educational attainment and employment rates. More than half of adults in New Jersey’s 7th District, for example, graduated from college. Only 17 percent in California’s 10th District did.
“The most important takeaway is that there is no one kind of voter or district that can deliver the House for Democrats in 2018,” said Lanae Erickson Hatalsky, the vice president for social policy and politics at Third Way. “There’s been a lot of focus on suburban districts. There’s no doubt that those are important, but there are not enough of them to win the House.”
Hatalsky, who co-authored the report with Ryan Pougiales, emphasized that Democrats still would not win the House even if they could get every single 2016 Clinton voter who backed a Republican House candidate to turn out again in 2018 and cross over.
“You can’t get to a House majority without winning over Trump voters,” she said. “There are some people who definitely want to believe that they can because they still don’t know how to deal with Trump voters and are intimidated by the idea of appealing to them.”
Well, that certainly is a splash of cold water on those Democratic wave hopes. As of now, looks like low tide for the Left.

Poll: Unpopular Trump and Pence Are Still More Popular Than Democrats and the Media

A short and sweet bulletin to kick off your long holiday weekend. As the president flops around in the mud of salacious gossip, petty insults, and alleged blackmail -- and as the Republican Party consumes itself over an unpopular healthcare bill that they can't agree on, and have barely attempted to market to voters, despite seven years of big promises -- a new national survey confirms what one might expect: Donald Trump is an unpopular president:

Voters are souring on President Donald Trump and the GOP, and nearly 75 percent indicate they are either uneasy or alarmed about the way things are going in Washington, according to a Suffolk University/USA Today national poll of registered voters. Trump’s unfavorable rating has risen 8 points, to 55 percent, since a March poll by Suffolk University/USA Today. Forty percent of voters now look on him favorably, compared to 45 percent in March. And 53 percent of voters polled this week disapprove of the job he is doing, compared to 44 percent in March.
His above-the fray Vice President fares a bit better, but isn't exactly crushing it: Pence's favorability rating is just about dead even, at (41/43). And the beleaguered, divided, frustrated Republican Party is in bad shape at (32/55). Historically, Democrats and their "Resistance" base should be primed for a big comeback, their string of special election losses notwithstanding. A blue wave may eventually build, but Democrats are facing one minor problem. Voters dislike them even more than the president they're resisting:

As you can see, the national press -- which has never hidden its disdain for conservatives and outright contempt for Trump -- is treading water alongside the object of their barely-concealed opposition. The president's favorable rating is higher than the media's, although his unfavorable numbers are worse. At (36/50), the public's dim view of the press is almost identical to their negative feelings on Democrats, perhaps appropriately. In another new survey out this week, the national political figure with the worst brand in America is...Nancy Pelosi, whom rank-and-file Democrats continue to support:
Among the overall electorate, 46 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Pelosi, compared with 30 percent who view her favorably, according to a new Morning Consult/POLITICO poll. Pelosi doesn’t fare conspicuously worse than other congressional leaders, including House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). Ryan is viewed unfavorably by 42 percent of Americans and viewed favorably by 37 percent.
The Morning Consult write-up asserts that Pelosi's numbers aren't "conspicuously worse" than Paul Ryan's, but their data doesn't back that up. He's five points underwater; she's 16 points underwater. She's also energizing to Republicans and toxic with independents:

The Free Beacon reports on GOP data suggesting that Pelosi is especially radioactive in swing districts being targeted by Democrats in 2018. No wonder Republicans are preparing to elevate and nationalize her profile yet again. Parting thought: Despite the unpopularity of the still-incomplete Senate healthcare bill, only 11 percent of respondents in the USA Today poll want to see Obamacare remain in place. Everyone else is split between repeal and major fixes. It's failing:

Two television hosts assailed by Donald Trump questioned his mental health on Friday and charged that the White House had tried unsuccessfully to get them to apologize to the president for unfavorable coverage in exchange for his getting a negative tabloid story about them killed.

"He appears to have a fragile, impetuous, child-like ego that we've seen over and over again, especially with women," Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," said on the program.

"He attacks women because he fears women," added co-host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican U.S. congressman.

Brzezinski and Scarborough fired back on their program and in an opinion piece in The Washington Post after Trump's Twitter messages on Thursday, which attacked them, particularly Brzezinski, in highly personal terms.

Trump called Brzezinski "low I.Q. Crazy Mika" and alleged that she was "bleeding badly from a face-lift" when she visited his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida around New Year's Eve. He called Scarborough "Psycho Joe."

Scarborough said Trump packed "five or six lies into two tweets," including mischaracterizing their meetings at Mar-a-Lago. Brzezinski said she has never had a face-lift.

Where is the lie? I really have to chuckle when a Trump supporter calls someone else a liar since Trump is the nations biggest liar small hands down.

According to this measure, 47 Republican-held House seats are more Democratic-leaning than Georgia 6 is. Democrats need to pick up only 24 seats to win back the House, so even though this is the type of seat that Democrats probably want to be competitive in, taking Georgia 6 is not a necessity for taking back the House.
