Shooting call under investigation
According to New York State Police Capt. Erik Dauber, officers responded at approximately 9 a.m. to a report of shots fired inside a residence at 895 State Route 414.
“The person who made that call had left the residence,” Dauber told the media after the incident.
Dauber said closing Route 414 was done out of “an abundance of caution.”
Dauber said attempts were made to make contact with anyone who might still be inside the residence, but they were unsuccessful.
While this was going on, for more than six hours, traffic was diverted off of State Route 414 onto Beaver Dams Road.
“We had our SORT team, Special Operations and Response Team, respond to clear the residence,” Dauber said.
When the SORT team arrived, around 3:30 p.m., they entered and cleared the residence.
“Nobody was located inside,” Dauber said.
There was also no evidence of any kind that shots had been fired in the residence.
While an investigation into the shooting report and the circumstances surrounding it is ongoing, he confirmed that State Police had not taken anyone into custody.
“At this time there’s no reason to suspect that this incident actually occurred,” Dauber said.Updated Jun 15, 2017 at 6:53 PM
