Manafort, 69, faces tax evasion and bank fraud charges, as he is accused of hiding a “significant percentage” of income earned from his lobbyist work in Ukraine from the IRS. He also is accused of fraudulently obtaining millions more in bank loans, including while he was working on the Trump campaign. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III has made headlines in recent days for his clashes with the prosecutors, including pressing them on the speed and merits of the prosecution and suggesting one prosecutor was so discouraged he was crying in the courtroom.
Ellis even took aim at journalists, threatening on Monday to kick reporters out of the courtroom if they continue being “disruptive.”
