Broome County ranks 55 out of 62 NY counties for health and wellness

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Broome County is near the bottom when it comes to overall health and wellness, according to a recent study.

Broome ranks 55 out of 62 New York counties, a one-spot improvement from last year.

On Monday, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar held a walking news conference to address the findings.

The ranking judges quality of life by examining obesity levels, tobacco use, childhood poverty and access to healthy foods.

Garnar is instituting a "Get Healthy Broome" Task Force made up of department heads and a legislators.

Garnar encourages people to head outdoors and utilize the many free county parks.
