Guidance counselor drove to work drunk, troopers say
A guidance counselor from Tioga Central School District has resigned after he was charged with drunk driving Monday morning.
Steven H. Gillule, 55, from Barton, was arrested by state police at 9:38 a.m., after troopers responded to a citizen's complaint on Fifth Avenue in the Town of Tioga.
Troopers say Gillule had driven to work earlier that morning while he was allegedly still intoxicated. His reported blood alcohol content at the time of his arrest was 0.13 percent, which is over the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to troopers.
Gillule was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated, then ticketed to appear March 29 in Tioga Town Court.
Tioga Central Superintendent of Schools Scot Taylor confirmed Thursday that Gillule had been employed with the school district as a guidance counselor and he has resigned as a result of the drunken driving arrest.
According to state payroll records, Gillule was hired by Tioga Central schools in July 2003. His most recent salary was listed at $61,080.
Gillule's resignation was accepted during a special meeting Tuesday of the Tioga Central School Board.
