Numerous partners urging NYC Mayor de Blasio to DIVEST from lending institutions funding Dakota Access.

Hon. Bill de Blasio
City Hall
New York, NY 10007
February 13th, 2017

Dear Mayor de Blasio:

As groups supporting the Indigenous-led movement opposing the Dakota Access pipeline, we were heartened by your remarks on Friday indicating your openness to divesting the City’s pension funds from the banks that fund this destructive project. Many of the largest banks, which the City also uses for its business, are financing Energy Transfer Partners, Energy Transfer Equity and Sunoco Logistics to build the pipeline, threatening the drinking water of over 17 million people and contributing to further carbon emissions and climate change. Now, Trump is determined to force through Dakota Access. We urge you to follow through on your thoughtful statements by divesting New York City’s pension funds from the banks that are refusing to withdraw from financing the pipeline and also consider cancelling the city’s direct business with these entities.

Last week, the City of Seattle moved to end its long-time business relationship with Wells Fargo, which is one of the largest financiers of Dakota Access contributing $467 million in loans and credit guarantees as of September of 2016 to the $3.8 billion project, which would funnel 400,000 barrels of oil per day from the Bakken fields. (A full list of financial backers as researched by Food & Water Watch can be found below).

It is clear that Trump and the North Dakota government are acting with the best interests of corporations in mind, not the well-being of the people. The United States has a long history of trampling the rights of indigenous peoples, a history which Trump and North Dakota seek to continue. Pipeline spills and accidents are all too common, and this project will contribute to the ongoing climate crisis.

New York City must not stand idle as this attack on Native Americans, water quality, and our collective future unfolds. We applaud your willingness to consider action to help stop Dakota Access and assert our rights to have a say in how our money is invested. Please divest the city’s pension funds and its business from Wells Fargo and the other banks financing Dakota Access. We thank you for considering our request and thinking of the seventh generation. We have a duty to ensure clean drinking water for those yet to come.

Sincerely,

Today marks the first anniversary since Lenca Indian and environmental organizer Berta Cáceres was murdered in her Honduran home. She was a leading organizer for indigenous land rights in Honduras. In 2016 Cáceres was presented the Goldman Environmental Prize, the world’s leading environmental award.

"The Honduran environmental activist’s killing a year ago bears the hallmarks of a ‘well-planned operation designed by military intelligence’ says legal source."

Kinda pushy ain't ya? whistle

Here's a heads up bz.
Continuing to pry for the nature or recipient of ones correspondence is not only uncool, but NOYB. Although, an answer could be easily surmised by any thinking person.

Try giving your chronic pruritus ani-driven agenda a break bz.

Appeals Court Refuses to Stop Oil in Dakota Access Pipeline: The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit means the $3.8 billion pipeline to move North Dakota oil to a distribution point in Illinois could be operating as early as Monday, even as the tribes' lawsuit challenging the project moves forward.

Team Cuomo’s latest casino fiasco

The agreement between the state and the Senecas — a Western New York tribe — provided the state with a percentage of the revenues from the casinos’ slot machines on a sliding scale: Years 1-4 at 18 percent, Years 5-7 at 22 percent, and Years 8-14 at 25 percent.

Here’s the catch: In 2012, Gov. Cuomo and the Senecas agreed to an extension of the gaming compact through 2023, after a dispute over gambling exclusivity. How suprised Cuomo must have been when, on March 22, Seneca Nation President Todd Gates announced, “Our obligation to the state has ended.”

He wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d read the contract as closely as the Seneca Nation did. The agreement may go through 2023, but the payment schedule stops at 2017.

How the hell many casinos to we need in upstate NY? Obviously they will all hurt each other very soon!

http://www.timesunion.com/7dayarchive/ar...se-11046061.php

BRIDGEPORT (AP) — The Oneida Indians say they will expand their gambling operations in central New York with a third casino near Syracuse.

The Point Place Casino will be built in Bridgeport, less than 50 miles from the del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes region.

The Lago is one of three Las Vegas-style casinos that have recently opened in upstate New York.

A fourth new casino in the Catskills is under construction.

The Oneida Indian Nation says their new casino will have nearly 500 slot machines and 20 table games when it opens in spring 2018.
