Does anyone really think that silly sign is a good use of taxpayers funds? A sign is not going to bring people to Geneva.

That would be a "no". 200K price tag, too! Now, if they do get it where do you install it without insulting those on the "other" side of this sign? Remember, it has to be all about inclusivity!

Very well said. Seems like the City could find better use of the monies than a sign that "separates" downtown. And by the rendering it looks like the family dollar store is gone. Why? Are the people that decided on these projects ashamed? Where will all the citizens that shopped there go now? I thought Geneva was supposed to be a community of inclusiveness. Guess not!

I like the idea of a sign. Not sure about the price tag, though. But something that welcomes people into downtown... I like it.

Side note: I remember when I worked for a company in Geneva twenty years ago, and I was overheard on the phone giving directions, telling a client coming from out of town to drive down Exchange Street.

"We never tell them to drive down Exchange Street - route them up by the hospital and down North/South Main," I was told afterward. Imagine that!

It's been nice to see downtown get the focus that it deserves. Anything that makes it more welcoming is okay in my book.

They sure do on Orientation Day, right? The radio loops the directions and even has some folks come down Pre-Emption Road from the Thruway!!

Well, maybe once the new 'WELCOME!' sign goes up they'll have a reason to send parents on down Exchange Street. :P

The welcome sign is way too expensive and extravagant as are some of the other ideas that the City has come up with. I would like to see a new welcome sign at a much less expensive cost - placed at the entrance to the City - not the "entrance" to downtown.

Why don't they put one going across where the old railroad bridge was on Exchange Street just before North Street? They have some tress planted on each side and you could bolt it to each side of the stone block walls with some lettering going over the road. That would save on installing posts.

Sounds like a much better idea Pingu. But do we even need a sign that big over the road? And who is going to pay the extra $100,000? In fact who i going to pay the extra on several of the projects?
