What happened over this past weekend at Hobart, did some student get robbed at gun point by another student? Seems very unfortunate and puts a black cloud over the start of a new semester.

Allegedly there were two perpetrators, both armed with handguns. Not clear as to whether the event occurred on or off campus.

mr gearan (hws president)

why not spend $3,000 or $4,000 to install a basic video security system to monitor the perimeter of your campus for individuals coming or going when activities like this occur?

1 TB of storage holds months of video per unit if needed later for help with solving a crime

why waste geneva taxpayer money and local police time to address problems you/hws create yourself?

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of contract Hobart has if any with Geneva for the provision of Public Safety (police and fire) I know that RIT paid around $1100 per visit if Henrietta FD had to come to campus, and that at one time Cornell paid Ithaca a one time fee every year for Public Safety. RIT was considering establishing their own Fire (they already have ambulance) about three years ago so those $ are from then. RIT is also tax-exempt from the town of Henrietta.

Wow, looks like the guys who robbed the Hobart student got caught up in Rochester. The news said they were out on bail for another felony, I wonder if the felony was for robbery or something like that?

Not sure but think these 2 fine gentlemen were part of the "riot" previously. If so they certainly learned their lesson. If this is all wrong I apologize.

What makes you think that? Do you have a source that cites that information?

Let's hope that bail is set high enough to keep this pair off the streets until trial.

From fingerlakes1 news of today 9/14/16:

"The Geneva Police Department says arrests have been made in connection with an armed robbery that took place near the Hobart and William Smith campus in late-August.

Police say that on September 13th around 6 pm officers took two Geneva residents into custody after an indictment on Tuesday. Investigators say that the two suspects were taken into custody on Clifford Avenue, in Rochester.

The New York State Violent Felony Warrant Squad took Raequan P. McCall and Jemar M. McCall, both of Geneva into custody charging them with robbery in the first degree, as well as robbery in the second degree. Both charges are Class B and Class C felonies.

Officers say that the two were out on bail from another felony incident that occurred in the City of Geneva on June 7th on North Main Street."

I thought our new activist with the front page article said there was no riot. I'm sure she will protest this latest arrest.

Be careful not to conflate the two events. This pair may well be rightly charged with felony armed robbery while at the same time being overcharged with riot in the earlier event.

Lucinda, maybe in this case, just maybe, the correct charges were issued and these two are dangerous. Give credit when credit is due. You seem to have alternative motives when it comes to these two offenders.

You miss her point, entirely. She is not saying the latest charge of armed robbery in uncalled for. She is saying that it is entirely possible that THIS charge is proper while the former rioting charge, was not. This is a possibility. She is not claiming these two men are not dangerous.

And just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they have some sneaky, alternative agenda.

if you were not at the 'disturbance' on north main street then how can you make the statement that the rioting charge was not proper?
