A man was shot in the face while hunting Saturday, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office:

A statement released by sheriff’s office said Steven O’Neil, 44, of Butler, was hunting near his home when 12-gauge slug struck him in the jaw, getting lodged in place. O’Neil was initially taken to Newark Wayne Community Hospital and later Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injury, said police.

It is unclear who shot O’Neil and if any charges have been filed.

The case is being investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
