what progress have you and mr king made on getting a fresh food store located in that area?

howz about a year around farmers market located on the chicken coop site for the neighbors to get fresh fruits and veggies?

or having hws students grow fresh food on the hws 200 acre campus during the warmer months and then offering the fresh food at the farmers market on that site

hws offers fresh foods for their campus through out the year at scandling

why not have hws order more fresh foods during the colder months and bring them to the farmers market on that site and sell them at cost to the neighbors there

you all should be able to come up with even better ideas
wink

howz about you setting up a chicken coop at all the playgrounds in geneva?

you can start at the washington street playground wink

all the children in the city will be able to learn about chickens not just those on state street
the city will have less area to mow - lowering taxpayer costs
other families will get some eggs

unless you are a nimby

Knew you'd come around eventually!

Chickens rock. And not just in a pot.

why not start a chicken co-op in your area?
would the neighborhood kids not enjoy it?

I agree with Bluezone. It would be a great asset. Of course the those in favor of the coops will be the first to hid behind the zoning laws. I got news for you Laws can be changed!

As soon as you and BZ petition the City Council and get the laws changed I'll consider starting a chicken farm in my back yard. It would indeed be educational for kids, not only in terms of learning where their food comes from, but also how non domesticated animals like foxes get their food to survive! I'd go before the Council myself but since my assessment was raised I'm really trying to stay under the radar.

those that supported the coop even though they lived on the other side of the city have indeed changed the law

if one wants a chicken coop all they need to do is start one
when the city puts a stop work order on them they just need to ignore it
then when they get people from the other side of the city to support it the city will back down

would be nice if those on state street could 'walk' down the street for fresh food

keep us updated on the work you are doing to get a fresh food store to the state street area

Yes, there certainly is enough space there. Enough to raise one of those giant chickens you keep having nightmares about. But if you knew that there was one of them right here in the city, it might drive you over the edge, so I'll pass.

must be you do not want the kids in your area to experience chickens

simple logic should dictate that if a variance is to be sought on a property and the state street area is in desperate need of a a fresh food store

a fresh food store should have been a priority

the kids in that area will have health concerns thru out their lives without access to proper fresh food

but living on upper castle street that is your last concern

Au contraire, my feather-brained friend. I indeed do want them to experience chickens -- roasted, fried, fricasseed, grilled... mmmmmmmmm!

Unfuffle your feathers! You were talking about the Ag Station on Castle Street, not State Street.

If I'm not mistaken, Geneva Peeps is a co-op, and all members receive fresh eggs in exchange for their work there. There are also plots of soil where people can raise their own crops. Pretty neato!

The real question is, with all of the rundown and/or vacant properties in Geneva, why aren't more of these transformed into parcels like this one has been? Imagine if a private citizen came into town and said "I'd like to clean up the trash and drug needles that have accumulated here for years, and in its place put a chicken coop, gardens, and solar power." Geneva should be BEGGING people to come and transform its blighted properties like this.
