Ithaca police investigating reports of shots fired
Ithaca Police Officers responded to the area of Wood Street and S. Plain Street around 8:45 Saturday night after Tompkins County 911 received several reports of shots fired in the area.
Witnesses report seeing two vehicles, a black SUV and a Silver Toyota or Audi stopped in the 300 block of Wood Street. A person was seen standing outside of the black SUV and firing several shots, according to police reports.
The silver vehicle behind the black SUV then immediately put the vehicle in reverse and fled east, almost striking a pedestrian in the process, according to one witness.
The shooter then got into the black SUV which then left the area headed west, according to witness reports. The black SUV was last seen turning north onto S. Meadow Street, witnesses said.
Ithaca Police Officers canvassed the area for evidence and believe a small caliber handgun was used. There are no reports of persons being treated for gunshot wounds at this time at area hospitals, police said.
According to police reports, Ithaca Police are investigating the possibility that the silver vehicle may have been struck by gunfire.
