Great day for NY and Seneca Falls in general. After several hours of waiting the POTUS came through our little town.

Cool.

It was interesting the route they took from Rochester getting off the Geneva exit and taking Rt.96 and going down Virginia St and not going by our beautiful dump. I'm sure they didn't want to spoil the historical beauty of Seneca County

Did not know he was visiting Seneca Falls. Wonder how many people knew or got a chance to see him.

It was an exciting day in the historic Town of Seneca Falls, NY on Thursday as the President of the United States stopped at the National Women's Rights Historic Park on his way to a speaking engagement at Henniger High School in Syracuse.

A crowd of over a thousand local residents and media gathered on Fall Street beginning shortly after 1:30 pm after the White House announced that President Barrack Obama's itinerary for the afternoon would include a stop in Seneca Falls.

President Barack Obama stopped in Seneca Falls Thursday afternoon and spent about an hour inside the Visitor Center at The Women's Rights National Historical Park. For an unknown security reason, the motorcade got off the Geneva Thruway exit and took Route 96 into Waterloo, turned down Virginia Street and then onto Routes 5 & 20 to Seneca Falls.

Secret Service agents arrived before the President and pushed the crowd back to the east side of Mynderse Street and to the west side of Clinton Street. A bomb sniffing dog then made its way up and down the street and into the Visitor Center.

Escorted by police motorcycles, the President's bus dubbed "Ground Force One" and a bus with national press media personnel pulled into Seneca Falls just before 3:30p.m.

While President Obama was inside, a thunderstorm passed over Seneca Falls, but many of the one thousand people gathered along Fall Street waited for him to leave. When he came out, President Obama walked across the street and greeted people who were waiting on the porch and balcony of their Fall Street apartments.

President Obama did not go into the courtyard and look at the water wall or go inside the Wesleyan Chapel, the site of the 1848 first Women's Rights Convention.

When the bus tour left town, President Obama waved out the front window of Ground Force One which brought a large cheer from the crowd.

The motorcade then headed on Routes 5&20 for Auburn and Syracuse. President Obama is speaking tonight in Syracuse and staying overnight in Auburn before heading to Binghamton and Scranton, PA tomorrow.

That's because, unlike what Baby Blue thinks, it wasn't released to the public until late morning or early afternoon today.

I suppose you think our president should stay in the White House for his whole term and never see the public? Or do you think he should travel with no protection? You only saw the half of it. I heard a lot of jets flying around yesterday, did anyone else?

It's their board and they can expunge anti-Obama sentiment if they wish.

At the same time, I hope they'll remember that partisanship cuts both ways.

A lot of local republicans might reconsider (right or wrong) their use of FL1 services for their business/government/party websites if people start to perceive that FL1 is taking a partisan stance.

Auburn, NY -- Members of President Barak Obama's advance team are at the Holiday Inn in Auburn, surveying the building as a possible overnight site for Thursday's Obama visit.

Sources say all rooms at the Holiday Inn have been booked for Obama's visit. According to the Holiday Inn website, Auburn Holiday Inn rooms are not available Wednesday or Thursday night, but are available Tuesday and Friday nights.

The Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn's newest hotel, also has rooms fully booked from Wednesday through Friday, according to the Inn's website.

It's not clear if Obama himself or members of his entourage - media and security - will stay at either hotel.

Police agencies have begun discussing security details in Auburn at the Holiday Inn and at the house of Harriet Tubman, the leader of the anti-slavery resistance network known as the Underground Railroad, according to a source.

Obama also could visit the nearby historic home of former U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward, who was a friend to Tubman. The president has made it clear in speeches that Tubman and Seward were key figures in American history that he admires.

IMO no matter your political affiliation it was an honor to have the President stop in our town and from the size of the crowd many were very excited to have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of him.

I got tired of being pushed back by secret service after I waited almost 2.5 hours. So I moved down Fall Street and waited until the bus went by to wave at the man himself.

It really was cool.

I do not see Fingerlakes1 being partisan, I see them removing disrespectful, ignorant posts.

Granted, Obama is president and Palin is merely a former candidate. However, both have achieved high political office.

Furthermore, generally, a healthy democracy favors the disrespect being directed at government officials. Obama is not our king. Indeed, much of our fight for independence was about the need to mock leaders, including a king.

Again, I like Jim S. personally but I worry this may have hurt his standing with people in terms of making him look like he favors politicians of one party over another.

It has nothing to do with partisanship. Purely business, FingerLakes1.com offers many positive things to highlight our region, for a brief moment Seneca Falls/Seneca County /Upstate NY was in the national spotlight. Lets keep at least one thread positive. There are enough threads in the Debate and Headline News forums for you all to spew what ever it is you spew. This one can stay positive, without the elementary name calling and such, that it would most certainly turn into.
Thanks for playing along.

Regarding the comment of security ... and how we all live our everyday lives without it (it isn't here anymore, must have been deleted) ... judging by some of the comments I hear about the President out and about in this area ... and I'm not talking comments that come up in relevant discussion ... but random comments STRANGERS make to you assuming you have the same mindset as them ... I would say he NEEDS a lot more security than even the most secured and guarded President.

Some of the things I hear people spew are insane. Regardless of your political affiliation ... 95% of what people accuse the current President of are just crazy.

If anything, Obama's presidency hasn't proven that he is an incapable leader ... but the system we support is corrupt as a whole across the board, regardless of political affiliation.
