It’s Good to Be King and Queen and Have a Blank Check

Michelle Obama says she hasn’t had time to reflect on her “legacy.” It could be because she has been rushing from one lavish taxpayer-funded vacation to another.

Even in the brief gaps between her vacations, she keeps busy spending our money. Lately she has been hanging out in a $3,300-per-night suite in Dublin for the G-8 summit.

The White House is billing Michelle’s trip to Dublin as having diplomatic significance, but her itinerary suggests otherwise. She and her daughters will visit the Trinity College library to explore President Obama’s Irish family roots, attend a performance by the world-famous Riverdance troupe, and visit the Wicklow Mountains national forest.

Next month it’s back to Africa for still more profligate spending.

When President Obama goes to sub-Saharan Africa this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances.

Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency.

Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

Preparations might have been even more elaborate.

The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counterassault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document.

But officials said Thursday that the safari had been canceled in favor of a trip [or rather, pilgrimage] to Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where [communist terrorist] Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.

The trip is expected to cost taxpayers as much $100 million. I would say you had better get back to work to help pay your “fair share,” but there is a good chance you don’t have that option; the labor participation rate is at the lowest since Jimmy Carter was in office as a direct result of Obama’s aggressively anti-business policies. That’s okay; what we can’t raise the funds to pay for, we can just add to the $17 trillion national debt. No doubt our children and grandchildren will be honored to spend their lives financing Obama’s historic presidency — if you want to call a looting spree a presidency.

Another "whine and geez" CJ? Your new grouchy old man avatar is nearly perfect for you, but somehow Clint Eastwood doesn't quite fit you (he's too talented and smart). I'm thinking that the grouchy old man closest to you is Jeff Dunham's "Walter" character. Think about it. Walter is perfect for you -- he's grouchy, doesn't have any thoughts of his own, but most of all he's a dummy. \:D

I wonder if these are the same fighter jets Obama refused to send to Benghazi

I wonder if he will refuse to order them to escort Liar One on his $100,000,000 African safari?

A) They were NOT fighter jets

-and-

B) They were ALREADY dead by that time.

If you'd stop relying on FoxNews and Drudge for your information, you might get your facts straight.

Though I'm sure you'd probably ignore them anyway.

That would still be the middle of the biggest financial crime of all time, which is being committed against people yet unborn, and against all of us living. The problem is that not enough was cut, starting years ago; the sequester was all theater. Tapering is all theater; they can't do it. The coming squawk over raising the debt limit will be all theater. There is no money. If they keep monetizing and borrowing, everything collapses. If they stop it, everything collapses.

That's the situation the dempublicans have created, over the decades, at an ever increasing rate; it's a trap which can't be gotten out of painlessly, which means the government will continue on its present course. Every choice available brings disaster, including the present course, which can be defined as kicking the can down the road, figuring that somebody else will have to deal with it, sometime. Sometime always comes.

Bush nearly doubled the debt in 8 yrs; obama did double it in 5; the next one will be worse. There are no miracles, and particularly, no Keynesian miracles, because Keynesianism is nonsense, just as it was in the 30's, and just as it was when Nixon proclaimed, "We are all Keynesians now.".

But maybe you have a plan, Timbo. What's your miracle end game?

What does ANY of that (even the one or two parts that actually agree with), have to do with my statement?

I have a whole lot of better things to do in the summer weather in this beautiful area than try to carry on an intelligent discussion with someone who lies about being a Marine and uses the most obscene name on here, Jesus Christ!

600 Billion in tax increases, vs. 85 billion in cuts. But Repubs would not compromise? Unbelievable.

What's unbelievable, is that even with those figures, virtually the entire budget STILL winds up benefiting the wealthy, hugely disproportional in relation to the cuts to the poor and low-income earners.

Got any other goofy statistics you can share?

How is "Jesus Christ" obscene, anyway? Do you get aroused when you hear it? Way to insult the Baby Jesus, Kyle!

a : abhorrent to morality or virtue; specifically : designed to incite to lust or depravity.

Whenever I hear "meet in the middle" I think of the dems and repubs as two jackals fighting over a wounded baby antelope that represents the republic. Doesn't matter what the topic is, it's like a film clip that keeps repeating, with bleating, and the sound of bones cracking...and then obama comes along, and he's got a knife and fork...and bush is setting the table...it's awful... \:\(
