Newark village taxes stay flat

The village’s property taxes will remain relatively flat for the coming year despite rising expenses related to wages, health insurance and retirement, among other costs.

According to Mayor Peter Blandino, the $5,928,643 spending plan includes over $1.7 million in revenues, up $55,387 over last year, as well as a decrease in expenses. The most significant increases in revenues were in sales tax, interest penalties and a payment in lieu of taxes program. He said wage and benefit costs alone went up $206,557, reflecting in police wage, retirement and overtime increases, staff retirement increases and a rise in health insurance costs.
